Shia LaBeouf arrested for DUI after accident & taken to hospital (update)

22 year-old Indiana Jones actor Shia LaBeouf’s former run-ins with the law were minor incidents which could be chalked up to youthful indiscretions. He was arrested for a drunken stand-down in a Walgreens with a security guard who made fun of him for purchasing Clearasil in November of last year. Shia was staying at a nearby hotel and was not driving at the time. The charges were ultimately dropped. He talked about the incident on David Letterman and he told the story with bravado, once flipping off Letterman when he asked him why he had changed to return to the store.

Shia was also ticketed for smoking outside in Burbank, California. An arrest warrant was issued in March after he failed to turn up for a hearing to address the charges, but his lawyer showed up the next day to plead guilty for him and Shia got off with a $500 fine.

In June a video was leaked that showed a drunken Shia telling a fellow party-goer to slap him while he egged him on by calling him a f*ggot. Shia issued a statement that he never should have used the word and apologized for it. He said it was an old video that was not meant to be made public. In my commentary at the time I mentioned that he’s 22 and at that point he had only minor offenses which seem relatively tame.

There are very few details about Shia’s latest arrest but it sounds like he was driving wasted and could easily have killed someone. TMZ reports that he was arrested for DUI after a drunken car accident. Both Shia and his accident victim were taken to the hospital and there’s no word if anyone was seriously injured:

TMZ has learned Shia LaBeouf has been arrested for DUI.

Law enforcement sources tell TMZ LaBeouf was involved in a car accident at about 3:00 AM at the corner of LaBrea and Fountain in Hollywood. Paramedics were called to the scene and both parties were taken to a local hospital.

LaBeouf was placed under arrest on suspicion of felony DUI after we’re told he exhibited “outward signs” of intoxication at the scene.

Shia is arrogant and young, but maybe this arrest and accident will be a wake up call for him and he’ll start taking more responsibility for his action. There’s no excuse for driving drunk and with all the resources these young stars have you think they would know better. Of course they’re going to let loose and maybe they’ll smoke in a few places where it’s illegal or act stupid in public. Driving drunk is an entirely different matter, though, and it should never be seen a minor offense or somehow a “right of passage.” Innocent people can so easily be killed.

We’ll have to see what happened exactly and hopefully all the injuries are minor.

Update: Shia needs surgery on his hand. All other victim injuries are minor
TMZ has more details, and Shia has injured his hand and needs surgery. He had a passenger in his car who has a minor head injury and the driver of the other vehicle also sustained minor injuries. The police are still determining the level of the charges:

Law enforcement sources tell us Shia LaBeouf badly injured his hand and will need surgery.

As we first reported, LaBeouf was arrested this morning on suspicion of felony DUI after he allegedly made an illegal left, striking another car which then caused Shia’s car to roll.

We’re told Shia will need surgery on his left hand. A passenger in Shia’s car sustained minor head injuries and the driver of the other car sustained minor injuries as well.

Deputies are evaluating the case at the hospital right now to determine if LaBeouf will be booked on felony or misdemeanor DUI.

We’re told Shia will be in the hospital “for a while.” We could not get more specifics.

once again the sense of entitlement because they make too much money in movies kicks in. Honestly, I am so sick of these celebs and their behavior. And he, thinks he is just the cats ass. he is such a douche. I would love to never see him again.

  2. Laddy says:

One would think that these stars could afford a driver for a night if they plan on going out and getting wasted. Even a cab! Instead, they chance it and endanger other people’s lives as well as their own. What is it going to take?

  3. Roma says:

Wow, this is shocking and not the headline I was expecting. I don’t have the same resources as Shia, but I was able to get hammered last night and have my friend drive me home because I was so drunk I probably shouldn’t have been walking, much less driving. Why can’t celebrities have the same attitude? Hire a driver, pay for your assistant to be your DD. I have much less respect for him now.

I just hope the person he hit is okay.

  4. Disappointed says:

I really like Shia LaBeouf – how disappointing. Hopefully the third time’s a charm and he’ll knock this crap off… he’s a very good actor and I hope he doesn’t ruin that by letting his personal life overshadow his talent by doing irresponsible, dangerous stuff.

  5. geronimo says:

No excuse ever for drunk driving. Like Roma says, it’s not rocket science.

  6. czarina says:

Maybe there should be some law in Hollywood that nobody is allowed to become a “star” before they are, say, 25.
(OK, how you could enforce such a law is an interesting question!LOL)
But, seriously, fame and the whole Hollywood environment seem to be hugely detremental to young people in their late-teens and early twenties.
It can be a time of poorly made personal choices in any case, but add money and people catering to you and telling you how wonderful you are, and the ability to “get” anything you want:
It makes the possibility for self-destruction too easy to attain.

  7. Anni says:

some celebs think they are invincible. especially the young. just look at all those other young celebs with a DUI. all of them can afford a driver or a cab or whatever. but they don´t. they all think they can get away with anything because they´re famous.

  8. vdantev says:

Douchewad. He’ll do what 14 hours of community service if that ?

  9. geronimo says:

That, plus a slap on the wrist. That’ll teach him, eh. He’ll never do it again with the threat of that hanging over him. These people make me sick.

  10. tuviah says:

I pray hes gets sued for negligence..bankruptsy wont save someone who did a DUI.

  11. Bodhi says:

Damn, I really like Shia & hoped he wouldn’t join the club…

  12. SolitaryAngel says:

I’m disappointed, too; there is NO excuse for drunk driving–EVER.

I’d hoped for better behavior from this guy. 👿

He should be prosecuted for this. Sued, too.

    *climbs down from soapbox*

  13. RJPinoykid says:

Wow! So the overturned big black pick-up truck that me and my friends passed by @ 3am along Hollywood today was of Shia Lebeouf. That truck looks pretty fucked up but at least he came out alive. And I thought that having lots of money and fame is all a person need to be happy…obviously I’m wrong ;-(

  14. Edith says:

yes, he seems to have succumbed to the entitlement thing. A shame. I really liked him on SNL. And to flip off Letterman: not cool. For that, he has forfeited my esteem. 😐

  15. jinx says:

He is young and has a shit load of money, and a severe drinking problem. There is a pattern of behavior that has been going on for a while – all this odd public strange stuff, and it’s very likely that other things he has done have been covered up by production companies while he’s bee shooting movies.

It’s odd he wasn’t charge with a felony, damage and injury are the threshold for that charge in CA. Interesting, because there are both in this accident.

  16. Andrea says:

I really like Shia Ladouche! *Thanks Michael K* I live in Chicago and his mugshot was plastered all over the local news. I thought it was cute! 🙂 But like you said, it has been only minor instances. But now, I hate people who drink and drive. I have friends who are underage who do it all the time and sometimes, I wish they would hit a streetpole or something.. Yeah evil right? But it is because there are families out there driving and people coming home late from home and to take that so light heartedly disturbs me. It is a joke to them and unfortunately the law sees it the same way. You can kill someone by drunk driving and it is a slap on the wrist and especially in Hollywood where you can runover young kids and get away with it, Thanks McSteamys wife! And I get pulled over for the first time, for going 20 over in a hill in bad weather and have to pay a $200 fine and attend an Under 25 driving course with other fellow teens, but if I was lets say a hollywood socialite, I spend 2 seconds at a jail getting fingerprinted and VOILA! My time to society is paid.

  17. Bodhi says:

His dad is recovering junkie & addiction runs in the family. Maybe :fingerscrossed: this will be a wake up call 🙁

  18. Samantha says:

As usual, since he is a celebrity he will get away with little punishment. Hopefully this will wake is arse up and he will stop living like an idiot.

  19. geekazoid says:

THIS IS OING TO DELAY THE TRANSFORMERS 2 PRODUCTION! ….lol because thats what really matters.

  20. geekazoid says:

lol GOD THAT PHOTO IS SO DORKY!

  21. Snowblood says:

Oh my god, Geekazoid, with the all-caps already. You’re giving me a headache, baby. Damn…

I don’t know this young Hollywoodian at all, but I did notice he crashed his car only about 5 blocks from where I used to live in West Hollywood – that IS a treacherous weird T-zone intersection there at the top of La Brea and Foutain, at 3 in the morning if you’re even slightly dumb&high like this guy was, it’s so easy to get plowed by another car there.

Hope it wasn’t his Rosy Palms hand he smashed all to hell! I look at Shia LaBoeuf and I see — a young wanker, literally. That’s not a BAD thing, per se, that’s like probably almost all guys his age. Still – that off-the-cuff thought did drift into my mind when I read this story today. “I wonder if it was his his jerking-off hand…”

  22. Snowblood says:

Gah!! I just read Dlisted’s take on this story today, and he was wondering the same rude thing I was, about did the guy smash up his jacking-off hand.

What trips me out, though, is that there’s such things as misdemeanor DUIs. Really? What, then, differentiates a felony DUI from a misdemeanor one? Maybe because the cops forgot to take his blood or urine at the scene of the accident, so all they can prove is what they said they witnessed, or something. Weird, misdemeanor DUI. Never heard of such a thing.

  23. thesharkguys says:

Looks like ‘Shia’ doesn’t have a very ‘Sunni’ disposition.

  24. FROV says:

HEY,Why do people always complain about famous people getting in trouble….Their just people like you and me..their expected to make a movie not to make their shit smell like roses!!!

  25. ri23 says:

    Yeah, this sounds about right.

  26. LilKunseedid says:

I love Shia LaBeouf and ppl always make mistakes so for all yu ppl tryin to damn near give him the death penalty can shut up…Leave him alone u dont know his situation and wat he’s goin through.
