Patrick Swayze battling cancer with four massages daily and macrobiotic diet

Beloved 55 year-old star Patrick Swayze is still working and is determined to beat pancreatic cancer. He’s working on his health through daily meditation, hours of massages, gentle Eastern exercise and a healthy diet. Unfortunately Swayze is still smoking the occasional cigarette, but he is reportedly not inhaling. That probably makes a small difference, but with all the other measures he’s using to get healthy it seems like he would work to give up cigarettes too:

Patrick Swayze… is crediting his improved health and weight gain to combining an ancient healing technique with his own diet and positive philosophy.

“Patrick’s health regime consists of hours of meditation and stretching, four massages a day including two-hour foot massages to stimulate the organs and induce blood flow, and Tai Chi martial arts exercises,” a close pal revealed to The Enquirer.

“He also takes herbal supplements, eats only organic food and sticks to a strict macrobiotic diet…”

The only sticking point in his health regimen is his tobacco addition, revealed his pal.

“Patrick is having a hard time trying to quit. He still smokes, but claims he doesn’t inhale.”

[From The National Enquirer, print edition, August 11, 2008]

Patrick is now working on the series “The Beast” for A&E, which is filming in Chicago. He said to photographers at the airport a little over a week ago “I’m a miracle, dude.”

The prognosis for pancreatic cancer victims is slim, with less than 5% of sufferers living 5 years or more after diagnosis. Last week Carnegie Mellon professor Randy Pausch, whose “last lecture” video received millions of views on YouTube, passed away after a nearly two year long battle with the illness. Maybe Swayze will beat the odds. He’s definitely following Pausch’s life lessons and is living life to the fullest.

Give up the cigarettes you moron. You have the money to hire a round the clock bodyguard to snatch the cancer sticks out of your hands every time you try to light up. Wealthy people have the ways and the means to force themselves to give up these nasty habits. The rest of us just use good old fashioned willpower.

Smokes but doesn’t inhale? Don’t believe this for a minute.

Poor guy. Think it’s a bit sad that he feels he’s got to be seen to be giving up smoking in case people might not be quite so sympathetic towards him. Not disputing the ‘smoking is bad’ thing, just saying it’s a shame he feels the need to justify it. It’s mentioned in every single article about him.

  3. Syko says:

I don’t believe the not inhaling either. Long time smokers inhale automatically, you don’t even think about it. Don’t bother asking how I know this.

Much as I love him – for “Dirty Dancing” even if he’d never done another thing in his life – I don’t think massages and diet are going to kill pancreatic cancer. It’s one of the most horrible varieties of the disease, usually killing the victims within weeks. I wish he’d get some medical treatment too.

On the other hand, if you have terminal cancer, what’s the difference? Might as well get your pleasure where you can.

  5. geronimo says:

My thoughts too, syko, was just a bit reluctant to say it in case it came across as unfeeling or defeatist, since a lot of people seem to be hoping for a miracle cure here. Not writing him off or anything, just being realistic.

Dr Weil has a bunch of books on the subject and perhaps that’s why he’s not dead and able to work.

I hope what ever it is that has kept him alive works for a good long while. It’s a tough diet to live with day to day but it’s probably a lot better than death.

Isn’t that like using the ‘pulling-out’ method for birth control? LOL. If passive smokers are prone to getting cancer, what about smokers who don’t inhale? That is a joke.

I am so happy he is much better though, but he should ditch that occassional cigarette all the same, it is not good for him. he already has one leg in the grave, adding another cancer to pancreatic cancer will finish him off.

The “foot massages” are reflexology and are AMAZING! Even better then reflexology on the foot is in/on the ear. It is increidble, I hope that he talks about reflexology to the press because it not only aids the body when you are ill, but, it is a preventative medicine.

    Agree; Syko & Geronimo.
Smoking is hard habit/addiction to quit.

  10. Mairead says:

Am I the only person who thinks that he was jokingly quoting Bill Clinton?

At this stage he’s doing as much as he can for a terminal illness and is staring his own mortality in the face. He will give them up if and when he can finally let go of that crutch.

  11. Maritza says:

Tsk, tsk, Patrick you have to STOP SMOKING!!

My boyfriend’s father has beaten cancer by living very healthily… He went to a few special spa/treatment centres down in Mexico, where he was put on a very stict diet that he still follows, and had many detox treatments. I think that was around 10 years ago, and he’s still going strong. But the rules are, never smoke or put anything unhealthy in your body like that. I hope to see Patrick Swayze recover fully, but he shouldn’t even be near cigarettes.
