Katie Holmes talks about being styled by Suri again in Elle Mag

elle1

Katie Holmes is the cover girl for the February issue of Elle Magazine. I could have sworn she was just recently the cover girl, just a few months ago. Where is it…ah, November 2009. Not as recently as I thought. But you’ll have to forgive me, because most of Katie’s interviews are the same thing – she always talks about Suri’s style, and how Suri dresses her, and then Katie goes on to talk up her own style, as if Suri gets it from her. Not so much, Kate-Bot. Suri gets her love of high heels and pretty princess fashion from her dad. Just sayin’. Anyway, I think Katie is promoting her role as Jackie Kennedy in the History Channel’s miniseries, because she talks a lot about Jackie in the interview:

Katie on Suri’s fashion sense: “She’ll really tell me what she thinks. Like today I’m wearing brown suede pants, and she said, ‘I don’t like your pants.'” Holmes explains Suri’s advice isn’t all harsh, though: “But then she’ll say, ‘You’ve got to wear these shoes.’ Or ‘That’s so pretty, Mom. Wear that.’ She’s got a great eye.”

Suri is an instinctual shopper: “The other day we came out of a store, and she said, ‘I want to go there,’ pointing at another store quite a distance away. In that store was the dress that she wanted. I said, ‘Wow, Suri. You’re something. You picked that out from a football field away.'”

On the design process for her clothing line, Holmes & Yang: “I have such an appreciation for the fine details and the amount of work it takes. I really appreciate clothing and designers so much more. It’s made shopping even better.”

On decorating: “I like to create a nice table. I love roses and orchids and French tulips and berries, and then a lot of things that are just pretty and I have no idea what their names are.”

On working hard to perfect her role as former first lady Jacqueline Kennedy: “I worked as hard as I could, because I loved her. On set there was this feeling that we had to create something very special, because these people were very special.”

On playing such a complex role: “[The Kennedys] were like movie stars. There was such a professionalism to their public image.”

On admiring Jackie Kennedy’s strength: “I didn’t realize that she had lost a child in August and then [Jack] was assassinated in November. I couldn’t believe it. She had so much strength….I loved her love of family, how important it was for her to be a good mother.”

On not letting the attention from the paparazzi get to her: “I don’t worry so much. It is what it is, and it’s fine. I’ll go somewhere because I need to get something done.”

[From Elle Magazine]

It is startling to realize that Jackie lost baby Patrick just a few months before Jack was assassinated. I remember reading a Jackie biography years ago and figuring out how quickly those two events happened in succession. It’s no wonder Jackie was so beloved for so many years – people had tremendous sympathy for her, and she was a world-wide icon. Now, how will the zombie known as Katie Holmes do with the role of Jackie? I have no idea. Jackie didn’t talk out of the side of her mouth, I know that much. Strike one, Kate-Bot.

Also – I love the idea of Suri vetoing Katie’s pants. It cracks me up.

I keep giving this chick chances to amaze me with her talent and its just not happening.

  2. anti says:

she looks so much better with makeup!

  3. Tess says:

LOL Kaiser on Suri inheriting her love of heels and Princess fashion from Tom not Katie!

Katie is pretty but such voluntary zombihood is hard to figure.

And her whole aspect is entirely different than Jackie’s…in particular her absolute willingness to offer up her daughter for public consumption.

  4. normades says:

The pictures are nice, well styled. She looks so much better with longer hair.

  5. Lucy says:

Wow, Katie is really gorgeous but Tom sucked up all her beauty and light. What a shame! It’s so true she barely talks about him. It’s all about Suri and her lame films. I have the feeling that deep inside she must really hate him. Hope she can put her life back on track.

  6. trollydolly says:

Poor Suri with this twit as a Mother.

  7. brin says:

Hope we will all be on celebitchy twenty years from now when Suri & Empress Zahara wage a full-on tabloid war. All Zahara has to do is give Suri the look and it’s so over.

  8. Samigirl says:

She is doing that half smile on the cover. Drives me crazy.

  9. Lisa Turtle says:

I just can’t with Katie because SHE IS A CULT MEMBER. There is a huge Scientology expose being written by a few prominent journalists. That crackpot violent David Miscavage is basically leading a terror organization. Do you know the Scientologists chase down, hunt, inflitrate and destroy the lives of people who come out in criticism of them? Beyond Terrifying.

  10. Lisa Turtle says:

Oh, and I think that Nicole doesn’t seen Isabella and Connor very often because their biological parents were Sea Org (Scientology clery not allowed to have children) and were adopted by Tom and Nicole with the involvment of the Scientology bigwigs. Nicole probably knows its a battle she can’t win, especially since both Connor and Isabella are practicing Scientologists who are brainwashed against their mother.

  11. Marjalane says:

It seems to me that Suri needs to move on from picking Katie’s clothes to helping with Katie’s life choices. She’d probably make better decisions.

  12. whitedaisy says:

Wow. Such appreciation for Suri’s long-distance eye for shopping?
When did Katie Holmes become so …… vapid?

  13. lucy2 says:

Katie Holmes, professional shopper. Seriously, that’s all she does and all she talks about. She might as well sign up for the next cast of Real Housewives (of Xenu!)

That kid is already so spoiled, 10 bucks says she’s an absolute nightmare as a teenager.

  14. Isabel says:

God dammit, I really loved the wonky-eyed Joey Potter. This chick is just too weird for words.

  15. Javagirl1 says:

    “I want to go there.”
so Katie just takes her and buys her whatever she wants?

  16. janie says:

Poor Katie. She has the worst fashion sense ever. She’s not ugly, she just looks like every other girl in my high school.
you can tell the outfits are planned, and they are sooo scary.

  17. Lukie says:

I suddenly have the desire to eat dry toast…

  18. la_chica says:

She looks gorgeous when styled by a professional. What idiot lets their toddler dress them? Please

  19. Rosanna says:

I just LOVE Suri… so smart, opinionated, and unafraid of being herself. Too bad she’s got those parents LOL otherwise she’s doing an excellent job!

  20. photo jojo says:

Yeah, Suri shoulda put the kibosh on the pants Katie is wearing on that cover. Oy.

  21. kristin says:

I think Katie Holmes is lovely and have always liked her since my days watching Dawson’s Creek. BUT, she is turning into SUCH a weirdo, with all this Suri talk. Why do Scientologists think letting your kids boss you around is a good thing? I know they have some weird views on child rearing, but I can’t remember details…

  22. LittleDeadGirl says:

I don’t even care about her personal life but she is a terrible actress. She was awful in the Batman movie and I can’t see how if she couldn’t play that simple role how she will pull of being Jackie O. I have a feeling she’ll be wooden as all hell.

  23. JRenee says:

I don’t believe she has fully converted. When she splits from Tom, I think she will run far away from scientology but for now, she should keep the Suri stying bits out of her interviews- sheesh!

  24. Bodhi says:

Of course there is freedom of belief in the US (actually, its freedom to associate, but whatever) but there is also the right to free speech. Scientology is a DANGEROUS CULT & the more people know about what it is really going on, the better.

I hadn’t heard that Connor & Bella might be Sea Org kids, but it wouldn’t surprise me at all.

Anyway, the way they are raising Suri bugs the hell out of me. You aren’t supposed to give in to your child’s every whim. Kids needs limits, for Xenu’s sake!

  25. serena says:

Nice photos, but boring interview as always.

  26. bros says:

what a boring interview and all about her consumption habits. who the F wants to listen to her yabber about where her daughter shops? and if you are letting your 4 year old dress you, trust, everyone already knows that since she regularly goes out looking like a bizarre homeless lumberjack grandma.

thank you Elle for only photographing her from the waist up so we dont have to see her tree trunk legs.

  27. orion70 says:

    ugh, what a Mombie

  28. Girafe99 says:

Talking about magazine covers, has anyone seen Blake Lively for Cosmo I think, she seems to have lost her chin!

  29. Anti-icon says:

She irritates me as much as Goopy.

  30. Green Is Good says:

God, I wish this brain-washed Stepford Hag would shut up already about Suribrat and her alleged “fashion sense”. The kid is four years-old.

  31. tiki says:

caption for the last picture–‘aw, c’mon, tommy. can’t i play the girl tonight?’

  32. JenJen says:

She always reminds me of a t.v. actress Margaret Colin (yes,I had to look the face up)
    http://images.broadwayworld.com//upload2/82161/tn-150_pjz_nov03_09_nightingale_0014-edit.jpg
Same crooked smile and about the same amount of sex appeal to me….none.

  33. beth says:

i dont know – somehow i get just how dopey she gets over suri – i would too, if i had one daughter i adored beyond redemption…

  34. Hatedoodle says:

Give Katie a break on the half-smile. She had Bell’s Palsy, her face is permanently paralyzed. I have the same condition. It sucks. I rarely even willing to appear in family photos, much less when the editor of Elle calls and asks for a cover shoot.

  35. chasingadalia says:

Her nose resembles Michael Jackson’s nose in that first photo.

  36. dweeb says:

    she is friggen hot.

  37. Solveig says:

Wow, she’s gorgeous in these pictures! I can even past the fact that her empty eyes sadden me. To me it is obvious that she is depressed, not just because of the (non-existen)look in her eyes, but because of her interviews too.
Suri is too cute, though I’m pretty sure she’ll declare war on Zahara for the world domination in very few years.

  38. Kath says:

It’s weird to hear her bragging about her daughter becoming a miniature shallow shopaholic ditz, as if shopping were a skill.

  39. observer says:

From the set pics I’ve seen of Katie as Jackie, she didn’t gain any weight for the role. Jackie was a size 10, which is equivalent to a modern size 8 or 6 at the smallest. Katie is a size 2 or smaller. So I wonder whether she refused to gain the weight out of vanity, or what.

  40. Cooper says:

Katie Holmes only looks semi decent in professional photos, otherwise she looks dreadful in candid photos, and for crying out loud she has been saying this nonsence since that kid was 2 years old, typical lazy parenting by blamming it all on the kid, this never turns out well, Suri will be making head lines in ten years time but they want be pretty.

  41. d says:

yup; attractive but ZERO sex appeal. there’s something curiously flat and uninviting about her.

  42. Christine says:

Katie looks classy as usual. Great pictures

  43. Crash2GO2 says:

@Hatedoodle: “Give Katie a break on the half-smile. She had Bell’s Palsy, her face is permanently paralyzed.”

Did she? Do you have a link to this? I’m really curious.

  44. OriginalGracie says:

@JenJen: Wow, good call on how Katie and Margaret look so much alike! I never thought about that until I read your comments.

But the difference to me is that Margaret can act, IMHO. I have liked her in several Lifetime movies.

Katie is just….weird. I saw her on David Letterman and it was like she knew what she wanted to say, but couldn’t find the right words. And then when she did find the words, it was gushy and breathless and said so rapid fire that you wondered what she was on. Very strange.

But guys, come on. Anyone who would voluntarily marry Tommy Girl has problems.

  45. OriginalGracie says:

And I don’t even want to know what will happen with Suri in the future since their crazy religion thinks that children should literally do whatever they want without adult intervention.

That is such a bizarre concept and yet I see/hear about/read about crazy parents who indulge their children’s every whim…so it isn’t just an insane Scientology concept. Some people can’t say NO to their kids, or don’t want to and it will be hell to pay for the rest of us who have to deal with them.

  46. Anon says:

Everything and more that they say about Scientology is true. Part of my family got caught up and one decided to leave, leading to audits in Florida. Locking people up. Fixed marriages. Now we never see the ones still in. They are not allowed to see us or the parent that left the cult except every few years, and a couple terrified phone calls per year when the girl tries to get free. Her father who left never sees his kids and was left destitute. I am obviously having to post this anon because they monitor everything. It’s crazier shit than I am even letting on. Operation clambake has it pretty much spot on.
So, Kate is a katebot for sure and if she leaves him she won’t see Suri, just as Nicole doesn’t spend time with her older two. It is t allowed by the cult

  47. Noa says:

Vert smart decision on ELLE’s behalf to NOT PHOTOGRAPH her legs from the knees down.
I have never seen such ugly, fat legs on a skinny person.

  48. Ja says:

…and now Suri goes yet again: ‘I want to go there,’ pointing somewhere quite a distance away. There is the bong that she wanted. ‘Wow, Suri. You’re something. You smelled that out from a football field away.’

  49. Horse Lover says:

Suri is the Xenu’s starchild and has mystical powers we mere mortals don’t have.

I predict very soon, Suri will be curing the sick and disabled with a simple touch of her tiny hand.

Throngs of the ill and disabled will begin visiting the Beverly Hills manse Suri, Katey and Tom share, just like Lourdes.

  50. Bodhi says:

Kat(i)e may have had Bell’s palsy, but I can’t find any actual evidence that she did. Everything on the interwebs is speculation. I’m not saying that she did or didn’t it, just that she has never said anything about it (which I find strange, given how much people talk about talking out the side of her mouth… unless its one of the conditions that Scientology refuses to believe is real)

  51. observer says:

Read on JustJared that the history channel cancelled her mini series.

  52. Hatedoodle says:

Upon further investigation, I don’t think she did have Bell’s because there are pictures of her spontaneously smiling with both sides of her face. That’s why I tell my students never to use Wikipedia as a source! Wow! That is one messed up half-smile. Go ahead and hate on her for it.

  53. Emily says:

Please stop calling her a zombie. It’s an insult to zombies everywhere.

  54. Trippin says:

I just think it’s a waste of time to interview her. There’s no substance to it since she’s a Stepford wife and not allowed to talk and answer real questions so she sticks to safe topics like shopping and Princess Suri. Why don’t they ever ask her what age will she let Suri walk around on her own for great lengths of time or will she be carrying her at 12 years of age?

  55. pinkblings says:

Never liked Katie nor Tom. I think they are so full of themselves, obviously new money. Did you hear about the tree house for their daughter? Priming the little girl to be the next Paris Hilton: Fashion, fashion, and shopping, and boys and shopping! lol

  56. turgs says:

I never liked Katie, only recently found out what is wrong with her.

Shame people need to give her a break.

It is so odd I also never liked George Clooney-and I am a girl in my 20’s- turns out he had bell’s palsy too.

You shouldn’t be stuck up and think you safe of this you don’t just get this as a kid it can strike at any time.

Too all the haters – hate them because yes to me they are talentless but don’t hate them for their looks.

In my opinion they’re better looking then most and I would take the risk in saying this has actually enhanced it in their cases, others may not be so lucky!
