Natalie Portman is the cover girl for the February issue of InStyle Magazine (see cover here). The interview is kind of meh, because Natalie likely did it before she announced her engagement and her pregnancy, so she’s talking around specifics. But she sounds really nice and wholesome here:
Has Natalie Portman let slip the reasons she fell for her fiancé and Black Swan costar, Benjamin Millepied? While she hasn’t spoken directly about their relationship, she does reveal in a new interview what she wants in a mate.
“I look for all the same things I would in a friend,” she says in the February issue of InStyle. “Obviously, you need the sexual attraction too, so it’s like your best friend who you are also really attracted to.”
Portman, 29, also confesses to an adventurous streak. Asked what she’d do if she could be anonymous for one day, she has a surprising answer: “I would make out in the park!”
“That’s the thing I would most enjoy doing in New York, and it’s something I’ll never do,” she adds. “I’d also have loud, public conversations with my friends about personal things. Even if no one is paying attention – and most of the time, no one cares – you never know who is at the next table.”
She also cringes at the “super-awkward” solo sex scene she did for Black Swan, saying, “anyone who tells you otherwise is not being honest … or they’re a little off!”
As for what’s on her to-do-list for the next 10 years, the actress – who also stars in the upcoming romantic comedy No Strings Attached, with Ashton Kutcher – says she wants to be “in a happy relationship, with children.”
It seems that Portman, who is pregnant with her first child, is on her way to achieving that goal.

Even though I’ve been questioning Natalie’s choices, I honestly do hope that she and Benjamin Millepied are happy together and that this whole thing doesn’t end up being a catastrophe. Even though he’s begun to strike me as rather douchey, maybe they fit together perfectly…?

Assuming this interview is a few months old the ‘happy relationship with children’ statement screams that the baby was planned so all the people out there living in the Stone Age can shut up already.
No negative thoughts. This is gonna be a stellar year for Nat. I really think Ben loves her and he is talented. Thats the only concrete thing I need know about him. I am like super happy for her. I love that Nat wants to make out in a public place but can’t. You know despite how cool being famous would be, its the small things like being loud in a restaurant with your friends and PDA in a park you would miss (I guess). Nat should still try the park thing.
I still like her and wish her the best.
For God’s sake, pls, no more NP interviews! She’s becoming so annoying lately. Her PR should have known better. It’s not classy going around given thousand of interviews and then bragging about how private she is and all that phony stuff. She’s as famewhore as any other Hollywood actress. Yes, she has made better movie choises but yet the only thing she really wants is an Oscar.
One of my favorites since The Professional. Hope everything turns out well for her and her baby. And hope she wins the Oscar.
She’s going to get jowly before this pregnancy is over…
She’s so cool and talented I love her. She seems like a genuine, real person who didn’t fall into the hollywood crazy trap at all.
Natalie isn’t going to win the oscar the motion picture academy isn’t that stupid there’s still some long retired former winners/nominees that vote Eva Marie Saint Mother Dolores Hart & Joanne Woodward amongst them. you can’t always plan when your going to have children
This is gonna sound a lot bitchier than I want it to, but I can’t wait for her to get fat.
I love that her purse is in the shape of a book and it’s called ‘Lolita’ heehehe.
@courtny: Your Joanne Woodward obsession cracks me up…so why won’t they vote for Natalie and who WILL they vote for instead?
@normades: Michelle Williams or Annette Bening. Both gave outstanding performances. Natalie was really good in BS but not good enough compare to them.
@normandes I think this race is Annette’s to loose to be fair I haven’t seen TKAA but with her body of work it’s really her time. If you’ve seen Being Julia & the Grifters-Benning can act circles around Natalie.
I think they could be a good match. She strikes me as one of those compulsive overachiever types who only wants to date someone who is at the top of their game professionally, but because she is also really competitive, it can’t be the same profession as her. She couldn’t get together with another actor because she couldn’t stand it if they beat her to the oscar. I don’t mean this to sound bitchy, it’s just my impression of her character. I hope it works out for them.
I predict her turning into the brunette Goop within the next few years. She’s just too prone to being a little haughty. I totally think it’s gonna be all “I only feed my baby organic and they wear cloth diapers and aren’t leaving a carbon footprint” as soon as that sucker pops out. It’ll be cute, though!
I watched Black Swan recently and she was amazing.
It won’t last. He’s on the road for ballet, and she’s on the road for movies. Over the years, it will take its toll being apart so much.
I really do like Natalie – I liker her acting (loved her in “V for Vendetta” but have yet to see “Black Swan”), and I think she is a very honest, attractive, down-to-earth person. I truly hope that she and Ben have a wonderful, loving, understanding, relationship and I wish them all the best.
BTW – I feel the same way about my husband and she does about her fiance: he is my best friend.
Kaiser: Be optimistic, willya? I married the “perfect man” (if fiances could turn in resumes as to their inherent decency, qualifications as a husband and father, and future career ambitions), but it was a disaster in the end. I am a very intense person, he is not; I was really bored by about year seven (“the itch”. There were several other significant issues, but the bottom line is the passion died and we grew apart. I was not unfaithful, just miserable. In retrospect, I did not marry for love; I married because my parents FINALLY approved of someone (I was 27 and so was he). .
Look at Natalie and Benjamin. They seem to be very passionate about each other. Of course the hot stuff will fade over time, but they will have a child together. They are both smart, sophisticated people, true artists (I know you don’t like “Bitchface”, but I admire her) so that’s a very strong bond between them and a good sign of compatibility.
