Mel Gibson “was trying to invite suicide by cop” after Robyn left him

wenn2000138

In the March “Hollywood Issue” of Vanity Fair, Peter Biskind has written some kind of exposé of Mel Gibson’s violent, drunken shenanigans. I’m not sure if this is supposed to be a sympathetic piece, or merely a detailed list of TMZ and Radar’s previous reporting. But it does sound interesting. Page Six got their hands on an advanced copy of the article, and Biskund claims that when his wife Robyn left him in 2006, that’s when Mel really went off the rails. Apparently, Mel was getting so wasted, he was attempting to cause trouble for himself with the police, all so that the police would shoot him:

Mel Gibson sought “death by cop” after his wife, Robyn, left him while he was filming “Apocalypto” in 2006, according to Vanity Fair. Peter Biskind writes in the Hollywood issue that Gibson had started drinking again on location and returned home to LA to find Robyn had moved out with the kids.

Soon after, he infamously ranted slurs at a police officer who arrested him on suspicion of DUI following a drinking session at Moonshadows in Malibu.

A friend told VF, “He felt that he had just absolutely failed as a human being. Mel was trying to invite death by cop. I don’t think this was being anti-Semitic. I think he was trying to rile that guy into pulling out a gun and shooting him.”

The friend said Gibson had “said goodbye to every table” in the restaurant before leaving: “I believe what was going on that night was a farewell.”

Dean Devlin, who co-produced “The Patriot,” told Biskind, “He told me that when he drank, this whole other character came out . . . he was doing everything he could to redeem himself.”

Gibson’s “Lethal Weapon” co-star, Danny Glover, leapt to his defense, saying, “I know Mel in his heart, and I think he’s not the way he has been characterized.”

[From Page Six]

So Danny Glover is still on Team Mel. Interesting. I remember a joke Jon Stewart once told, which was basically like “In retrospect, it’s amazing that those two were able to pull it together enough for the Lethal Weapon franchise.”

As far as the “suicide by cop” angle – I mean, maybe I could buy that. I think it probably crossed Mel’s mind at one point, and yes, perhaps he was even suicidal at one point. But I don’t feel any sympathy for him, at all. It’s not a situation where I can say “Oh, I didn’t realize he felt that badly, the poor guy is really hurting.” I believe he’s a violent, racist son of a bitch, whether or not he’s drinking.

    Awwwww. Poor baaaaaby.

  2. Praise St. Angie! says:

violent racist sob, whether drunk or not sounds about right to me. no sympathy from me, either.

and I commend you on your photo choices – you always pick the best ones to showcase Gibson’s crazy.

  3. Lynda says:

Guess he didn’t try hard enough, the slob.

  4. Kaboom says:

If you know you turn into an asshole when drinking and drink anyway, you’re just as much responsible for your actions as if you were sober. You made your decision.

  5. e.non says:

i feel sorry for the guy. he was hot in his early film career, esp year of living dangerously. he’s obviously had a mental breakdown; and i definitely think it’s basis is to his wacked out father’s religion that was imposed on gibson. he’s lost his mind; and then that gold-digging russian found her prey.

  6. Caitlin says:

Oh my, that last pic is TERRIFYING! Alcohol is a truth serum, with lowered inhibitions you’re more apt to say what you really believe. It drives me crazy when people brush off their bad behavior by using the excuse they were trashed and didn’t mean it. So yeah, Mel is probably the same crazy, racist trainwreck drunk and sober.

  7. tapioca says:

Are they getting confused with the end of Ransom?

  8. renee says:

    Kaiser,

Do you have another job teaching visual literacy or media studies – ’cause you f’ing rawk at it on this site.

Regarding Mel, I think that you’ve sussed him out to a t. When he is sober and questioned about his racism he is always skeevy in his responses. He never out and out apologizes or takes ownership…he just makes excuses.

  9. original kate says:

i’m not buying this at all. suicide by cop? no. douchebag by nature? yes.

  10. Johnny Depp's Girl says:

trying is dying.. either sh** or get off the pot I say..

  11. Str8Shooter says:

Too bad he didn’t succeed. World would be a MUCH better place without racist, homophobic, misogynistic scum like him.

@e.non: You feel ‘sorry’ for him? For what exactly? Making comments like ‘oven dodger’ at parties, beating his girlfriend, or the endless horrible shit that comes out of his now-hideous looking self?

    PUH-leeze!

@@ I just had an idea for a hilarious reality show: Like Survivor, on an isolated island, but the celebs all still each week, nobody leaves. They just have to learn to survive on their own and build a cohesive social unit; they’d be stuck on the island for a whole YEAR. It would star Mel Gibson, Halle Berry, Lindsay Lohan and Charlie Sheen.

I can understand this to a degree; I have compassion for the man because some things I hear from him I can understand, but not for sympathy to ignore serious issues that need to be addressed and dealt with. When you are emotionally/mentally breaking up you are trying to kill yourself, suicide (and thinking of suicide) is a result of all the negativity going on through your mind. Mel’s case is he has been fighting himself for years, there is a “beast” in him that he hates, he hates who is is, and he wants that “beast” killed because he can’t control himself; he has tried suicide several times (and I’m sure during the past few months). He can’t bring himself to kill himself so losing control and going into a violent rage he is wanting someone to kill him to put an end to “his misery”. I’ve been there myself, I’m sure he is begging (inside himself) for someone to kill him.

But Mel needs to face the consequences of his actions and confront the punishment (which he is afraid of punishment though he knows he has done wrong) and quit “hiding” behind his sleazy lawyers and his PR, people/friends/family who keep making excuses for him, “sucking up to him” and bailing him out, these people are not helping him they are making it worse; this is one of the things that has hurt this man so much. The DA needs to quit “dragging their feet/in a timely manner” (makes me think the DA is “sucking up” to Mel) and file charges against him. They said they have a strong case and lots of information; now if it’s strong then file charges against him, deny him bail, take away his passport, and make this man face up to what he is! Mel NEEDS to be confined in a cell, he NEEDS to be incarcarated to help him.

I think Mel would get some compassion ONLY when he is able to confess the truth from his heart and confess to just what he has been.

The guys own Father doesn’t believe the Holocaust ever happened, that says a lot.

  15. UrbanRube says:

I heard a man who was a very successful architect at one point in his life talk about this “other self” that came out, and he didn’t have multiple personality disorder–he was bipolar. So I wonder about that for Mel. His behavior is despicable, though, and if he knows this other self causes problems–possibly life-threatening–for himself and the people around him, he should be getting serious help. Probably in-patient help.

  16. nikki says:

I know someone who’s done a similar thing with a cop when he was going through a tough time with a lady so I tend to believe Mel could have been attempting that. Clearly its not a very sane or clear headed thing to do, but some people are pretty unbalanced. I think Mel is one, its not excuse for his behavior but I tend to think there is something seriously wrong inside his head.

  17. lucy2 says:

Well, he was right about one thing – he failed as a human being.

  18. Eve says:

Kissing Kaiser’s ass too here *muah*

I have zero sympathy for this man.

  19. Cirque28 says:

I’m sure Gibson has made suicidal gestures in order to REALLY get the attention of the people who care about him. But intentionally commit suicide? Him? Never, nope. He’s way too narcissistic. He’ll only leave this life kicking and screaming, mark my words.

  20. Kim says:

Yyyeeeaaahhh right! As if he thought a cop would pull a gun on him for anti semetic slurs.

He is trying to make an excuse for why he said those awful things and to get us to feel sorry for him in process. We arent buying it Mel!

  21. xxodettexx says:

okay, so now the new story is he was suicidal, not that he IS a misogynistic racist douchebag… good to know other criminals that get into epic confrontations with cops have a new excuse to throw out, “i wasnt committing a crime or being a dick to a law enforcement officer, i was just suicidal!”

  22. kathy says:

I have no excuses for Mel, other than he is human. He is now facing the potential consequences for his alledged actions w/Oks, and his past adventures with exercising his opnions in a non- acceptable, but not illegal manner. BTW, I do not believe OK’s 1000 thread spun variations of her story.
So, tell me why some celebrities get eternal forgiveness? I am so sick of the Lindsay Lohan chronicles of illegal activity, and the endless lightening/forgiving consequences. And Charlie Sheen? etc. When veiwing this all in perspective, I DO believe that there is payback here from HW Jews in power and media — there is a “can’t wait” attitude for him to be crushed. So be it — you will have crushed a “human being” who was a fine and talented actor and director, who brought to my attention, that there is a “club” in HW that censors movies that they feel depict “certain groups” unfavorably. Too bad, I never thought “unfavorably” of this group before from the movies, but I do NOW, because they are tring to control and hurt people’s lives. Nice work. Mel Gibson’s blood — now also on your hands.

  23. jane16 says:

Hahaha! Like a cop would ever shoot a celebrity here! Especially an A lister. Celebs live by a different set of rules than the rest of us, anywhere, but here in so cal, they are mollycoddled by the cops and sheriffs-to-the-stars.

  24. to says:

aren’t you all tired of judging people at their worst moments? even if someone were ‘really that way’ (whatever ‘way’ is being denounced) isn’t it more special and more work that they went through the trouble to try to be better, the best they can be?

i would hate to be judged as the person i am at my rare worst moments…wouldn’t you?

  25. xxodettexx says:

yes, kathy, bc the HW Jews totes put alcohol into gibson’s drinks without him noticing, causing him to get pulled over by cops while driving drunk and they also projected their voices onto himto make him say sugar tits and act like a crazy anti-cop bastard

THEN the HW Jews knew it was not enough so they set him up with Oks, FORCED him to leave his family for her and then they OBVIOUSLY used recordings of his voice from over the years to create the tapes where he is screaming like a lunatic

and i am NOT excusing Oks, but i look at people like Gibson, Lohan, Sheen and just see RICH/FAMOUS PEOPLE getting away with whatever they want, not just the anti-jews

  26. Jane says:

OK, suppose I believe this stupid story. Mel trying to get a cop to lose his cool and gun him down so he will be out of his misery.

If he was that miserable, why drag another innocent human being into your misery. Did he think the cop’s life wouldn’t be effected, if not ruined, if he did such a thing?

    Mel needs a keeper.

  27. Liana says:

A friend told VF, “He felt that he had just absolutely failed as a human being. Mel was trying to invite death by cop. I don’t think this was being anti-Semitic. I think he was trying to rile that guy into pulling out a gun and shooting him.”

    ***********

And I think this is a “friend” trying to justify someone’s bad behavior and excuse it.

  28. icantbelievethis says:

Yes, it all makes sense b/c there are stories everyday about cops shooting people for saying stupid crap.

Puhleeze, MG wouldn’t give up his need to get blown before the jacuzzi.

  29. Solveig says:

And his wife left him because…? Did he cheated on her with Oksomething or what?

  30. Shy says:

Oh but how about that story with Winona Ryder when he told her some humiliating sh-t about Jewish. That was years ago. Which means that he was all powerful and was humiliating young actresses who couldn’t fight back.

  31. gobo says:

Hmmm, he went off the rails because his wife left him? I thought his wife left him because he was off the rails and had been for a long time. Wasn’t he pretty much openly having affairs when she decided enough was enough?

  32. Kiska says:

I thought he left his wife for Oksana. The guy has serious issues and a lot of demons. Drinking is one thing but his mental state is largely left unchecked. He needs to be on medication and then rehab to dry out for good.

  33. MorticiansDoItDeader says:

@Caitlin, ITA “in vino veritas” (in wine there is truth). Alcohol doesn’t make you something you’re not (a racist, a slut etc), it just magnifies ones true personality!

  34. Debbie says:

What a crock of shit. We are meant to believe this because…………….
Mel is of the old Catholic faith suicide is against there belief

  35. CB Rawks says:

“Mel Gibson was trying to invite suicide by cop after Robyn left him”

Well, don’t give up! I have confidence that you can do it, Mel!

  36. tuscan sun says:

If I’m remembering the timeline correctly, Robyn filed for divorce when Oksana became pregnant.

Mel had affairs all during his marriage to Robyn. This was no secret. Robyn had been looking the other way regarding his affairs for years. It was Oksana’s pregnancy that was finally one humiliation too many.

  37. Anne de Vries says:

Even if he was suicidal, that has to be the most horrible, cruel and selfish way to try to end your life – to force another person into doing it for you. That cop’s life would have been ruined (if not by the act itself then certainly by the publicity it would have drawn).

Yeah, this really doesn’t show him in a better light at all.

  38. susieqinBA says:

    Adding to my comment:
If you’re going to get a cop to shoot you then you will have to be attacking the cop with a gun to force the cop to shoot you and not be running away from him like Mel did at his arrest; he ran from the cop resisting arrest. He was speeding, maybe he was hoping to run himself off the road and kill himself in an accident. I agree with another comment that this “friend” to VF is trying to make excuses and is an underhanded means that PR is trying make things better for Mel. Mel needs to speak for himself and not have a twisted, distorted, sick friend who is delusional like Mel to speak for him.

For Danny Glover: “I know Mel at heart and he is not what he is characterized to be”.
Well, Danny, what you think you know is a figment of your imagination. What Mel is being characterized as IS what he TRULY IS – the man at heart is being exposed! You join the “big fat fool’s club” along with Jodie Foster, Whoopi, RDJ, and everyone else who thinks Mel is a great guy; a great guy doesn’t hurt/destroy his wife and flaunt his affairs in front of her, FORCING HER to stay married, and FORCING HIS KIDS to be silent about his abuse (or am I imagining things, Danny?), a great guy doesn’t humiliate people and bully them and say racial/anti-semetic words or is vulgar/obscene or have violent rages (is this a figment of MY imagination, Danny?). I guess the tapes and the things we have heard Mel say in interviews (men/women are not equal, his wife is going to hell because she’s not of the church – a great guy doesn’t say those things) were figments of our imaginations, the tapes are not there we were imagining that we heard them, Mel has never hurt anyone in his life, all the “accusations” are people imagining horrible things about him.

Danny, you are a big, fat, fool! You might sense that Mel deep down inside is a good man, but you have to accept and address the reality that there is another man that is evil whom Mel truly is. Mel is NOT being mis-judged or mis-characterized, the man AT HEART HE TRULY IS is being exposed. So get out of YOUR fantasy world and “imagining all these accusations away” and acknowledge the reality about the man you thought you knew!!! YOU DO NOT know him!!

  39. I am Legend says:

“What a crock of shit. We are meant to believe this because…………….
Mel is of the old Catholic faith suicide is against there belief”

So is adultery and divorce. I don’t buy the suicide angle either … I think his publicist is looking for a sympathetic angle.

  40. Hana says:

    I don´t buy this story,too.Mel is asshole
