Channing Tatum on his missing chromosome: “I don’t know, could be true”

wenn3157697

I know there isn’t a lot of love for Channing Tatum amongst true dong connoisseurs. It’s true, Channing often comes across like a meathead, and he isn’t cultured or suave or dashing like, say, Jon Hamm or Michael Fassbender. But I still really like Channing. He reminds me so, so much of the good ol’ boys I grew up with (and still live around). And honestly, Channing is one of the South’s better specimens. He’s sweet-natured, humble, and he always come across as an incredibly decent guy. He’s so the guy who would buy me a beer because I seemed like a “fancy city gal” because I‘m the only girl not wearing flip-flops in the bar – for real, that’s happened to me many times in my beloved South. Good ol’ boys associate no flip-flops and a not-so-pronounced Southern accent as a “fancy city gal”.

Anyway, Channing has a new movie out – The Eagle, which isn’t doing so well at the box office. I wish they would let Channing do more interviews to promote the movie, because he gives AMAZING interviews. He’s really chilled-out and unexpectedly hilarious. In this one, with New York Magazine, Channing covers all of the hot topics: homoerotism (“Jamie Bell and I have a bromance. We’ve been having sex for a few years now”), his alleged missing chromosome (“I read on IMDb one time that I’m missing a chromosome or something. Which, I don’t know, could be true.”) and his old life as a stripper (“It was a crazy time in my life. Young and crazy and in Tampa.”). LMAO, I want “Young and crazy and in Tampa” to be my epitaph.

In The Eagle, there are two male leads but no female love interests. Would you say there’s a homoerotic element to the film?
Well there are swords, and two guys are sword fighting. There’s a metaphor there I’m sure. And back in the Roman day I think it was probably more accepted than it is now. But there’s none in the movie. Me and [director Kevin Macdonald] talked a lot before we started filming: There is no love story in the movie, but it’s a relationship movie for sure.

There’s been a lot of buzz about the master-slave relationship going on there. Seems a little BDSM.
I think Jamie had a lot of fun having me as a slave. I don’t think I took advantage of it like I should have when he was my slave. But Jamie, yeah — he abused me. So maybe there was some frustration coming out a little bit here and there.

But would you say there’s a bromance aspect to it? They need each other even though they resent each other — that’s the basis for a lot of love stories.
I think there’s love in any relationship, whether it’s between a man and a woman, an animal and a person. Look, you have a need to be understood, humans gather around each other and they need to help each other through things. Jamie’s character and my character through trial by fire had to figure out how to understand each other. So I guess you could call it a bromance.

How about in real life?
Jamie and I have a bromance. We’ve been having sex for a few years now.

How’s that going?
Going fantastic.

He’s a lot smaller than you. He’s really small.
He’s a goer though.

What’s a goer?
I don’t know. I just made it up.

So you went to Sundance last month with the corrupt-cop movie The Son of No One. How was it?
It went good. I know there was some discrepancy and a little bit of bad mud being slung at certain actors. I think it was all unwarranted. I think Katie [Holmes] is an amazing actress.

Did you see The Hollywood Reporter article that said there were walkouts?
I try not to read it. It kinda hurts, man, sometimes, so I try not to read ’em. It can literally turn your head inside out. It’ll make you the most insecure person on the planet. And actors are probably already the most insecure people on the planet. Adding fuel to the fire probably will not help.

Why so insecure?
You know people, if they don’t like you — you’re opening up in a sort of way, putting your shit out there. If people take a big ol’ shit on it, it hurts a little bit.

Ever read anything about you that’s ever made you feel that way?
I read on IMDb one time that I’m missing a chromosome or something. Which, I don’t know, could be true.

Like missing which chromosome?
That’s all I read before I was like, “Oh my God, I gotta stop” and pulled the ripcord. It’s all dangerous reading those message boards. I went on there to try to remember the name of a costume designer that I worked with and I scrolled down for a second and was just like no, no, no, no, no, bad, bad, bad, bad, bad.

That kind of thing can get addictive for some people.
It’s human nature; we want to see destruction. We know that bodies are gonna be everywhere and it’s gonna be carnage.

Speaking of carnage, how is your burned penis? Everything healed?
It’s great. I’m back on top. No scarring, nothing. That part of your body is very regenerative.

Were you scared?
You should burn your privates and see how scared you are. I’m not even kidding. It’s by far one of the most painful things I’ve ever been through. That’s your man, that’s your dude, that’s your guy. I’ve had a longer relationship with him than I have with my parents.

It’s admirable that you were so eager to talk about it so publicly and openly.
Thanks, man. Look, I know people are gonna want to know, so the best thing I know how to do is literally to overtalk about it so that people are tired of talking about it.

There you go. That’s smart. Do you do that with anything else?
Obviously the stripping thing. But it’s kind of old news. Everyone wants to talk about it but they all keep saying the same thing. It was a crazy time in my life. Young and crazy and in Tampa.

[From New York Magazine]

I just love the guy. Nothing fazes him! If Naomi Campbell or Russell Crowe had been asked these kinds of questions, the interviewed would be hospitalized because a cell phone had been shoved up his ass. I also love that he defends his costars, no matter what. Katie Holmes gets Channing’s stamp of approval, for what it’s worth. And Jamie Bell is a “goer” – a great non-defense. God, I adore him.

That was pretty funny, and he seems smarter than I thought he’d be. Must be that missing chromosome. Which he took better than I would have. : )

  2. Rita says:

Holy crap, what a pathetic interview!! Since when did John Travolta become an interviewer for New York Magazine?

  3. GradStudentEatingHotPockets says:

    Hahaha oh my god. Hilarious.

  4. brin says:

He’s pretty funny, you have to have some smarts to be that charming. Me likey.

  5. Jackson says:

    Burned penis?

  6. Eve says:

Well, I’ll definitely watch The Eagle…but not because of him: my beloved Tahar Rahim is in this filme and plays a warrior or something — it’s probably a small part though.

  7. seVen says:

Good Lord hes beautiful… HGF please. I’m not too proud to beg..

  8. devilgirl says:

WTF happened to his face, it is so bloated looking in some of those photos, and I do not remember him being that way before.

  9. Dorothy#1 says:

Well he is cute and funny, BUT he CAN’T act!

  10. Quest says:

Not bad on the eyes at all, saw him for an interview where he was asked about his new movie going against the Bieb’s – Never say never opening vs The Eagle and he was quite funny and charming about it as well.

  11. the original bellaluna says:

    Loved his clever responses.

  12. gloaming says:

He seems like such a sweetheart……

There was a blind item about an actor crying in the toilets after a press conference ripping into him about his movie.

    I bet it was him.

  13. Isabel says:

He’s just adorable. I want to give him bear hugs. And have him carry me places. And do other stuff.

He really seems like such a sweetheart!

  14. Oi says:

Yup, good ol boy. How in the world can he be missing a chromosome? That’s just weird.

  15. devilgirl says:

I think the Chromosome comment was because people felt like he looked a little simple and cavemanish. At least that is what I read regarding that particular comment.

  16. Someone Else says:

    He’s adorable! 🙂

  17. I Choose Me says:

Ha! I’ve always thought him the Mayor of Blandsville but that interview changed my mind. He’s funny and a lot sharper than I gave him credit for.

I know what a goer is and it’s conjuring up all sort of naughty thoughts about Jamie Bell. Now he’s a rocket I wouldn’t mind in my pocket.

  18. Mia says:

I love Channing. He’s earnest, hardworking, and humble. What’s not to love?

  19. MorticiansDoItDeader says:

@Rita! LMAO. I know, that interviewer was peen crazy!

“He’s a lot smaller than you. He’s really small.
    He’s a goer though.”

    “What’s a goer?
I don’t know. I just made it up.”

I think he meant to say he’s a GROWER (not a show-er). It really does speak to his intelligence that he cannot remember such a simple phrase.

  20. Abby says:

Channing is my celebrity crush. I’ve loved him since She’s the Man. LOVE him. Sure he’s not the best actor, but he always comes across so likeable and normal in interviews. LOVE him. 🙂 Also he’s smoking hot.

Have I mentioned I love him? I even love that he’s married. My husband used mildly jealous of my crush on Channing… but he’s over it now because I happily watched G.I. Joe and The Eagle with him.

Please, let our good ol’ boy be on HGF. 🙂

  21. NC native says:

I love this guy. He’s been my hollywood crush since I saw him for the first time with his shirt off. He has an awesome body. I also agree that he reminds me of the guys I grew up with in the south. HGF!!!

  22. Maritza says:

    He just won me over.

  23. Relli says:

Definitely on of those boys who would have me grinning the whole conversation! He also reminds me of the good ole boys grew up with.

  24. Phoenix says:

Love Channing- may be just because he’s incredibly hot and probably not for his amazing acting skills. He always comes across well in interviews though and I think a lot of people give him a hard time.

  25. Isa says:

I have a soft spot for him since Dear John. His scences with his father…he was good! He does look a little bloated, but that happens often when you have a man that’s really buff and he slows down on his workouts. The muscle turns to fat pretty quickly. Maybe that’s what happened to him?

I’ve loved Jamie Bell since Billy Elliot. I’m glad he’s still working. I’m remember watching the preview to this and I wanted to see it!

Oh and I LOLed at flip flops in a bar. I don’t go to bars but I hardly wore heels at them. I can barely walk in them much less dance!

  26. Jezi says:

I’ve always adored Channing. He’s sexy, seems sweet & genuine. He seems like a good man as well. Love him.

  27. ghostbuster says:

well, i was never a fan. he just came off as a bit of a keanu reeves to me. cute but not a lot of substance. i was wrong. tatum gives great interviews. hes both charming and witty. who could ask for more? the more i read about this kid, the more i adore him.

  28. TQB says:

He’s adorable. He’s one of the actors I will watch even though i think they’re terrible, just because they seem so funny and nice in interviews. And, well, HOT.

HGF. Don’t hold back, Kaiser. Celebrate your love of untalented but funny and hot dong.

    s

ps – For some reason his defense of Katie really got me. Loyalty. Unusual. And, also, hot.

  29. Ruffian9 says:

Re the lead photo: The first thing that popped into my head was: Medicated Neanderthal?

Nope, I don’t really get it either.

  30. Aubi says:

Rita – totally agree. What kind of interview is this? Weird.

  31. Sunday says:

I just LOVE him! Allways have. You gotta check out his interview with jimmy kimmel about the movie Dilemma, he gives a great story how Ron Howard took him from behind sexually.. 😀

  32. jay says:

ok…so I like him a little more now. I used to consider him the male Megan Fox. Looks great, horrible acting. But I guess he at least didn’t spew out some extra crazy nonsense like Fox does.

and I’ve noticed that Channing does tend to “fill out” between movies. He had some major chub going on before he did GI Joe. But he does seem to shed it off pretty quickly for movies and photo shoots. It would be a little annoying to constantly keep that physique up. So more power to him.

  33. latam says:

it england we say someones a bit of a goer when talking about someone whos “up for it” or likes to have a lot of sex and maybe into trying things maybe he got it off jamie.

Also its a shame his face is still bloated, i dont think its ever gonna go back to how it used to be
