  1. Johnny Depp's Girl says:

She wishes!!! Whe will never be Madonna!

  2. JenJen says:

I honestly thought it was Madonna all tatted up.

  3. teehee says:

Sad how some peope are so into the image of what they are or can be, rather than the core; and mix the two.

  4. serena says:

yeah totally. And she piss me off as hell.

  5. amoteafloat says:

She can copy Madonna all she wants. I, personally, don’t care. I just wish “Born this Way” didn’t SUCK. SO. HARD.

  6. Cherry Rose says:

She looks more like a hybrid of Christina Aguilera and Madonna.

But then again, that’s been her whole career. Copying other artists who were more original and more talented than she’ll ever be.

Looks like Gaga’s career is starting to go downhill. She’s become a joke (though I always thought she was).

Now we just have to wait for another utterly useless popstar who relies solely on gimmicks and stupid outfits and ripping off other artists to come about.

  7. chasingadalia says:

Ew. I wouldn’t be caught dead in 12 layers of clothing near that creeper photographer, never mind naked with a skateboard.

  8. DSMR says:

The big difference is Madonna had some originality, sex appeal and was actually attractive back in the day (mid 80’s early 90’s). Some originality would go along way. Unfortunately, the only thing CaCa demonstrates is how easily people are duped out of their hard earned money.

  9. mln76 says:

Meh I am over Gaga, Adele is the bomb I am so into ‘Rolling In the Deep’ and I can’t wait to hear the whole album.

On the subject though I think Borderline is my favorite Madge song. The dude in that video was a hottie. And remember the part when she spray paints the car by mistake? Awesome.

  10. KJ says:

This has nothing to do with Gaga – but I really wish celebs would STOP HELPING Terry Richardson become “something.” He’s a gross, advantageous asshole who rode his dad’s name to notoriety and tried to make the whole subversive, polaroid style shots his “thing.” He’s a hack, a predator, and a disgusting human being and I, for one, am completely ashamed of Lady Gaga for participating in a shoot with him. For some who talks about giving a voice to those who are silenced and cast aside, maybe she should read some articles about the young models he manipulates.

  11. Quest says:

Some artist last a lifetime and some are here for the short burst of fame/fortune. Nuff said for Gaga, who had her time and now the shock factor that made her a star is now dying out. This is what happens when there is more hype than talent.

  12. lrm says:

thanks GOD people are finally seeing what a fraud she is.

so she has an okay voice-bfd….
    !!!
my 10 yr old finally gets it now that he’s heard some madonna, and even many other 80’s artists-annie lennox,etc-
and you can tell that gaga as well as MOST ‘so called’ artists today have copied these older artists…he hears it in the songs, and he’s only 10.

now he nows why she has always been so annoying, lame and pisses me off so much. lol

but yea, what a freakin joke she is. dlisted is right lady caca

i mean, i am always in amazement that she has fans who don’t totally see that she is a carbon copy of previous artists, and she doesn’t pay homage to them, she puts it out like she is so original. that’s the lame part.

    and yea, she’s 25! RIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIGHt.
And I just had my sweet 16.
she is ugly as fuck too.
cannot wait for her appeal to really die.

and, are her fans really referred to as ‘gaboons’?
how insulting! I feel so bad-she takes a group of disenfranchised ppl [or they think they are], ,who are maybe wounded or want to fit in somewhere, and she freakin’ uses them to market herself and her work, and to make a bunch of money.

and yea,, deepak chopra is her friend? wth? her whole thing creeps me out and i would put a tin foil hat on for the theories surrounding her.

Oh, and madonna, WHEN she did it, WAS cutting edge. she was risque. It hadn’t all been done yet. ppl didnt have piercings and tattoos ad naseum. so when ppl say oh madonna, she wasn’t great-you have to take the context/time/place and see madonna thru that lens, to appreciate her influence as an entertainer/artist. that is all.

  13. Kristin says:

Lady Gaga is so, sooo much better to look at than “Crypt Keeper” Madonna

  14. guesty says:

@jdg…exactly. she’s not nor will she ever be madge.

  15. jover says:

I agree DSMR I grew up in the 80s; please for the love of GOd, can we be done with this corporate hack – there are so many other female singers out there that deserve some attention – how narcissistic is this girl?

  16. Yael says:

Yup, Cherry Rose, i completely agree with you. I think her 15 minutes riding the disco stick with her useless muffin are over…LOL

  17. nanster says:

Gotta hand it to Gaga – she is the Madonna of this decade. I don’t think she has the staying power or the talent, though. Guess we’ll just have to wait and see…
I was a hardcore Madonna fan when she first hit the scene – I still love her first two albums.

  18. Gwenevere says:

I would love it if Firefly came back. Such a great show! Christina Hendricks fans should check it out – she was on there for a few episodes.

  19. PrettyLights says:

Love that Thom Yorke video, I’ve seen him live and he does dance like that on stage too 🙂 It’s cute. Gaga = yawn. That photographer is disgusting, I wouldn’t step within 40 feet of him.

  20. Nancy says:

Borderline Madonna yeah! Damn she is one ugly girl no wonder she has to dress outrageously anything to take focus away from that face. Anyways I think its a little early in Gaga’s career to start appearing stupid and desperate.

  21. truthzbetta says:

People wanted to BE Madonna like people once dreamed they could BE Britney.

Gag-a is definitely the drag impersonator version of Madonna though. Yeah, she’s full in w/out one bit of the trend setting, copyable style and sexy cool of young and not so young Madge.

And Madge was able to make the news when there were NO celebs on the news. Her stunts actually did push buttons. Lady Drag ga is just such a nothing compared to the David Bowie’s and Madonnas of the world. I hear her and have no reaction except, fraud.

  22. HotPockets says:

I don’t find Madonna talented, she is just another manufactured product of the industry and now that she is getting outdated, the entertainment business has her replacement… Lady gaga, so who will replace Britney and the rest of them when they no longer serve their purpose and lose their sex appeal?

  23. SolitaryAngel says:

I love Firefly too! I would LOVE for it to come back on!

  24. Str8Shooter says:

Talent-wise, she’s the white version of Beyonce at best. I know, I know…Beyonce CAN sing much better, I’m more referring to the actual music she puts out.

Generic fluff. Zero substance. Instantly forgettable.

Five years from now…people will be like, ‘Lady WHO???’

  25. what?! says:

I’m surprised someone like her-someone who was banging on about being a feminist and all for womens rights is working with such a creeper. she seems to be someone who doesnt stand by her words but rather says stuff for the attention its brings (not much unlike most of show business)

  26. Bobby the K says:

There are some great female performers from Britain who should be better known…
Kate Bush, Siouxsie Sioux, and as mentioned Annie Lennox. These women have their own style as well, and it looks better. Not to mention wads more talent.

  27. nopizzaknowpiece says:

Except that younger Madonna was hot and GaGa is a total fug-mo…uglier than a Thanksgiving Day family brawl.

  28. Eve says:

    Ok, people, to be clear–

Madonna CAN NOT sing. She is no musician. She is an epic performer with great songwriters on her roster.

Lady Gaga is a musician and an activist. As well as a phenomenal performer with a wonderful message.

She’s blonde. She reinvents. She makes dance music. So do a bunch of way less talented bitches in this industry. She cites Madonna as a reference just as every performer does. Madonna was an innovator and pushed boundaries but she has company in Grace Jones, David Bowies, plenty of off the wall artists.

    Get the fuck over yourselves.

  29. Blaze says:

I actually think lady gaga is more talented than madonna music-wise, but that dosen’t mean much to me as I look to genres(sp?)outside of pop for legitimate musical talent; I look to pop music for fun, so don’t take it very seriously.

Pop stars are just that- stars, entertainers, performers- but not artists. I think that may be what annoys so many ppl about gaga(well, one of the things lol). I don’t remember Madonna ever going on about how she’s this deep artist but gaga seems to do this A LOT.

And this is coming from someone who dosen’t even have a problem with gaga, but I understand people being annoyed with her. I think both madonna and gaga have done a lot of contrived stunts throughout their careers to get more buzz and show everyone how edgy they are, but at the end of the day they are just pop stars.

  30. amoteafloat says:

    @Eve — PREACH.

  31. Jayna says:

@Nanster, I put on her Erotica CD the other day and realized it was absolutely amazing.

  32. luls says:

eewwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww!!!!!!!!!!!that entire video from start to finish, made we wanna BARF! thanks Kaiser! 🙁

  33. Catherine says:

    Where is the ‘dislike’ button?

  34. Jayna says:

@Hotpockets, you don’t have to like Madonna, but I own all of her albums, and they are a boat load. Not one of them is alike, for the most part, and her hand is in it all. She has done dance, pop, R&B, ballads electronica mixed with Folk music, house electronia, stripped down ballads with only guitar. She’s not manufactured, since most of her songs are reflective of her life or what she’s feeling. Britney is a manufactured pop star who rarely gravitates from club music. Madonna has put out truly meaningful songs, mixed with her other dance music.

  35. curmudgeon says:

    @Eve
She is only an activist because she is trying to make herself a gay icon. It’s manipulative as hell and she’s not even trying to be covert about it. Apparently the gay community doesn’t get to choose its own divas anymore. It will be marketed to them.

  36. jr says:

Madonna is a artist and the ULTIMATE pop-star…her high-jinks actually made you uncomfortable and made you think AND sing along…her growth was real and she works a camera like no one else…not even models can give looks like she can…..she is working on her new album guys….its coming!!!!!

  37. liz says:

I have to admit that I believe this woman is incredibly talented – HOWEVER, when she first came about, I thought her demeanor and character acting were some kind of advanced social commentary – but now it seems she’s started taking herself seriously and believes her own shiz. Not cool. I thought she’d one day simply appear as the talented performer she is, not the dance act designed to hide her real abilities. sad.

  38. amoteafloat says:

@curmudgeon — OOORRRR, maybe she knows a crapton of people in the gay community and is understandably outraged at the bigotry exhibited by ignorant politicians and Tea Partyers towards her friends?

I’d *love* to see your list of Great American Gay Icons. Truly.

  39. KJ says:

Or maybe she’s just taking advantage of an oft disenfranchised community in need of a popular figure to bring its plight to the public forum. I’m not saying that Gaga doesn’t respect her gay fans or care about their issues, but I AM saying you’re giving her too much credit in that regard. She saw an opening and hopped on it, and she’s as much manufactured and coordinated as a bedroom set from Ikea. She may be a good singer, and a great pianist and song writer, but she’s no visionary and she’s certainly not this vehicle to bring great change for the wallflowers and outcasts of the world. She prays on their need for validation to sell records. She was no more an outcast that Paris or Nicky Hilton at her elite New York prep school. She’s one big calculated stunt, not at all concerned with making actual, relevant social commentary, but entirely fixated on being “controversial.” You can’t have controversy without substance. Otherwise, all you’re left with is noise and pretty colors. In other words, Lady Gaga.

  40. Crash2GO2 says:

As much as she irritates me, I do have to admit I think she’s got talent – far more so than Madonna IMO.

Is it OK if I still wish she would stop walking around making a gaping fish face clad in nothing more than her underwear?

  41. Bella says:

Gaga’s best next move is to strip herself of all the gimmicks and just get down to the music. I think she’s talented as an artist, but the wacky bs takes away from it.

As far as Madonna, cant sing, cant act, but the woman was a genuis at marketing herself. If you think it was the music industry, think again. Madonna is no dummy.

  42. amoteafloat says:

@KJ — I’ll take GaGa and her pro-gay tweets over J-Lo and the pictures SHE posts of her diamonds anyday. Not that I follow Twitter or anything. But you get my drift.

Yes. GaGa grew up rich, for sure. In that way, she understands as much about being ostracized as, say, her fellow Sister in Pretentiousness Gwyneth. But AT LEAST she’s using her fame as a platform to say something about equal rights. There are SO many famous people who stand for absolutely nothing other than who they screw and what they wear.

I mean, I love most of her music, but the woman IS full of a massive amount of B.S. (oh, God. That egg stunt. Don’t get me started…), so I understand how criticism would be merited. But I also think that at *least* a smidgen of her passion towards the gay community is genuine.

And I’d also argue that “noise and pretty colors” sans substance defines Katy Perry more than GaGa. 😉

  43. Amy says:

In defense of Gaga, at least she writes her own music and can actually play an instrument!

I like her as a decent pop music artist. As far as her persona, agreed that it’s completely contrived and embarrassing.

I wish she’d shut up, take off the ridiculous clothes and just churn out more songs I can work out to…

  44. Ally says:

Madonna had a point of view, a style, and a pop moxie that only Beyoncé has neared to this day.

I don’t get the fuss over Lady Gaga at all. It’s costume changes + bad 90s Euro disco.

But I guess everyone loves a circus.

Let’s just not pretend it’s about the music, okay?

  45. Shay says:

Who hasn’t GaGa copied of late?
I recently saw a snippet of an interview of her on a morning show, in her Orlan look, and she not only feigns stupidity, with the way she talks, she is ridiculous and up herself. She’d have to be one of the worst role models for young girls. And sure enough, pop stars aren’t role models, but Gaga has been presenting herself as a role model as well.

  46. jj says:

Dear God in Heaven. That chick has ZERO sex appeal; NONE. And what is with her mouth and the way she bares her teeth all the time. She cannot pose worth a damn. She is so awful looking it doesn’t matter how much masturbation she simulates; she is NOT APPEALING. What has all this to do with her music? I am so glad her 15 minutes is almost up. Everyone is sick of her.

  47. Javagirl1 says:

    @amoteafloat Thank you!
I’m glad I’m not the only one who hates Born This Way! Unfortunately I can’t hate GaGa because of Bad Romance…

  48. Missfit says:

In all fairness…Madonna copied PLENTY of people back in her day and has throughout the years. She has copied Marilyn Monroe, Bettie Page, Bette Davis, Greta Garbo, Jean Harlow, etc. etc…and most of the females in old Hollywood. Are some people that oblivious NOT to see that and so her hardcore fans choose not to acknowledge it? Yes, Gaga has been inspired by Madonna and several other people…but so has Madonna, it’s the SAME SHIT. There has been people that have filed lawsuits on M. She took plenty of ideas from people who were not all that famous or that well known and made it hers…look it up, google it, it’s there. And I agree with Eve, comment 28.

  49. Jayna says:

@Bella, bingo about Madonna. Anybody who doesn’t think Madonna wasn’t in the driver’s seat in her career is dreaming. She’s now in her fourth decade of the music business.

Re you saying she can’t sing. Madonna can sing. She’s not a great singer and has said as much. She’s a decent singer with a really lovely tone to her voice (who sings live in concert), and she’s a really good dancer, but, most of all, she’s a great performer, who lasted this long also putting out continously over the years a really good body of music.

  50. neinfatty says:

LOL, slap some raw meat on your head and touch yourself and all of a sudden you’ve re-invented pop culture. Gaga = toy music for toy people.

  51. manly says:

    vocally,way better than madonna,spears.

  52. Tess says:

    Agree Bella.
Her best move would be to strip herself of the all gimmicks and let us see if she’s the real deal talent-wise…or not.

Also, after being tested for lupus, I find it shocking that she gets tattoos, which are a totally needless risk for people with immune system issues. She did make the claim, a while back, that she sort of, may, could possibly have, lupus.

  53. DetRiotgirl says:

Does anyone want to talk about how Gaga lied on the tonight show about getting an email from Madonna’s people? I’d like to talk about that. Liz Rosenberg denies any knowledge of an emails existence, and she’s been Madonna’s rep for what? 25 years or so? That, to me, says Lady gaga is totally full of it.

@KJ thank you for saying everything I was thinking about the human waste of space known as Terry Richardson. The fact that this so called activist would be willing to work with him (and naked, no less!) speaks volumes about her superficial, uninformed nature.

The really sad thing about Gaga is that I don’t think she’s totally without talent. She can sing, and she can write decent music when she puts more than ten minutes into the process. But, sadly, she’s decided that creating this ridiculously fake, overly hyped, overly marketed image is more important to her than being a musician. Her image is so manipulative and fraudulent, at this point am I just counting the seconds until she finally goes away.

On another note, I love borderline. But, I think gaga’s giving more of a true blue era Madonna vibe here, no? Slap her in a corset or leather jacket and she could do open your heart or who’s that girl without me blinking an eye.

  54. *-* says:

She’s so gross. All I can think of, when I see her are those pimples on her butt when she was walking around in torn fishnets.
    *shudders*

  55. peachthief says:

Who gives a fuck about Madonna OR Gaga?? FIIIIIIIRRRREEEEEEFFFFLLLLYYYYYY. FIREFLY. firefly!!!

That is all that matters here. Best. Show. Ever. Hot Nathan Fillion! Christina Hendricks in sackcloth without a bra! Sci-Fi Western! HOT NATHAN FILLION.

I have the vapors just thinking about it.

  56. Eve says:

    @curmudgeon

Girl, if you think the gay community does not choose its divas, you haven’t been paying attention.

I agree that plenty of less than talented pop stars have utilized the pro-gay rights stance to sell records and manipulated the message into a marketing tool but Lady Gaga backs up her act.

She is constantly making speeches, writing songs, giving money, hell just preaching the good word. And we need that don’t we?

  57. LuckyLilGem says:

Madonna is in a class by herself.

  58. Paige says:

her makeup looks great – flattering photo!

  59. Jazz says:

Just been reading up on Terry Richardson – and Jesus! What a f**king creeper!!

  60. Hakura says:

When I first saw the ‘still’ picture leading into this story, I thought she looked like Gwen Stefani xD

@Bella“Gaga’s best next move is to strip herself of all the gimmicks and just get down to the music. I think she’s talented as an artist, but the wacky bs takes away from it.”

While that may be true, I don’t think Gaga can afford to do that now. She built her entire persona (& subsequently gained notoriety) as a result of ‘performance art’ being such a big part of her image.

Not that I dislike her songs or voice (I do think she has talent of her own), but I’m not sure (if she removed the bells & whistles), that she could continue to be successful at this point.

I’ve always loved Madonna, & still have tons of her songs. She was visually interesting, creative, & seemed to do what she enjoyed & was inspired by. I’ve always thought Britney Spears was very ‘Madonna-like’ in the beginning of her career (though nowhere near as creative). But she did manage to stay relevant longer than most pop stars.

  61. Ashley says:

Disappointing to see that little boy in the middle of all the inappropriate stuff that was going on in that photo shoot studio.

  62. Pirouette says:

I like both Madonna and Lady Gaga. I think they both have been subversive in their own ways. Why are we forcing this dichotomy?

And why are you still searching for complete authenticity in pop music? Its like going to an Irish pub in America and being pissed that its not Irish enough.

And yes, jj, why is she doing that with her mouth? It is really obviously intentional.
