Maddox Jolie-Pitt is being homeschooled in France

The world’s most famous parents Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie try to keep their family of eight together as much as they can, but that often means taking their six kids with them all over the globe. The children — Maddox, Pax, Zahara, Shiloh and newborns Knox and Vivienne — are certainly going to grow with up with real-life global knowledge, but what about a formal education?

As Us points out, most seven-year-olds like Maddox are starting second grade now. Maddox has attended schools in New York City, New Orleans, Prague and Los Angeles. Now, the Jolie-Pitts have begun homeschooling their eldest. A tutor is reportedly visiting the house the family is renting in France.

But even if he’s not in a classroom, Maddox — who, like his siblings, is encouraged to speak French as a second language — is growing up fast. These days, he is allowed “to do things without Mom or Dad,” the source continues. “He tags along with an assistant to help with shopping.”

[From Us, print edition, September 29, 2008]

Brad is back in France after traveling to Venice and Toronto for film festivals to promote Burn After Reading, and Angelina should be in New York in October for the New York Film Festival, but the two did recently find some romantic time together. Us reports the two dined twice at L’Auberge du Parc in August. A witness said Angie “is happy and smiling. She looks so slim already.”

However, National Enquirer says things are less cheery at their French home, nicknamed “Chateau Chaos.”

During an angry phone call while Brad was in Toronto, Angie ordered Brad to come home.

During the tense phone call, Brad quipped, “You ready for another baby?”
“Angie flipped out,” said the insider. “She accused Brad of trying to run away from her and the kids to have fun with his buddies.”

[From National Enquirer, print edition, September 29, 2008]

After the call, Enquirer reports Brad scrapped his plans to attend the Stand Up for a Cure benefit concert on September 10 and returned to France.

There’s the possibility that both these stories are completely false, but also the possibility that they’re both true. Relationships are up and down. No one could blame Brad for wanting a break to be with friends, and no one could blame Angie for wanting him to get his ass back home to help her.

By moving around so much and preventing Maddox et al from developing relationships outside of the family ensures overdependence on Mom and Dad

  2. pamela says:

Wow, I wonder who told the NE about the phone call? Let’s see now, it might be the phone, or probably one of the chairs or tables. You just can’t trust furniture these days, they will rat you out in a minute.

CB, how in heaven’s name could you speculate there could be some truth to the telephone call story? This is unbelievable.I knew ONE day without ANY tabloid story about the JPs was more than enough, and some nonsense would surface, and here it is.

jonny lee miller’s girlfriend is 7 months pregnant
    does anyone recommend eli stone?

  4. CiCi says:

    1. I can’t stand those black ballet flats Angie wears! They always look so dirty and tired.

    2. Why is Denise Richards considered a complete whorebag delinquent mother when people suspect she MAY have lightened her daughter’s hair, but no one says anything when Maddox’s hair is not just lightened – but BLEACHED.

    3. Sorry Pamela but this story, in effect, IS true. Even if the exact phone call didn’t take place you can bet that EVERY COUPLE with children (esp ones with 6 under the age of 7) has had this conversation in their lives no matter WHAT their circumstances.

  5. nycmom100.. says:

Don’t know how true the rumor is about the 9/10 concert with Dave Mattews Band. The word on the street was DM wanted no pre or post parties due to the recent death of one of his band members. Brad was to be a surprise presenter.

  6. MSat says:

    Maddox is getting so big.

And, because it’s been too long:

    Z!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  7. DemLaw says:

Experience is not a substitute for education. Kids need some sort of formal education and some stability. I fear that these kids will end up living off of their parents’ money for the rest of their lives with no desire or skills to do anything for themselves. Education is so important and should come before traveling (or anything else), period. I’m all for giving kids a good home, but it has to be just that – GOOD. You can’t just pile a bunch of kids into a house because you have a lot of money and love to go around – it takes more than that to raise children.

  8. Kaiser says:

Look at Princess Z, just plotting away. She’s going to Empress of The Seven Seas so soon! How quickly they grow up. πŸ˜›

Yeah, we’ve had this fight before about the kids’ education – I tend to think the kids will be just fine. They’re growing up the same way Sofia Coppola grew up – on film sets, with varied education, in a loving family. So at least one of these kids will get an Oscar, for sure. (It won’t be Princess Z, though – she’ll have her royal duties πŸ˜‰ )

I also doubt Angie & Brad are fighting. I think Brad just does whatever Angie tells him. No fighting. πŸ˜€

  9. Linda says:

MStat and Kaiser – get a grip – the pictures shown of the kids if from 2007!!!

  10. geronimo says:

ZOMG, MStat and Kaiser. Imagine not even knowing that? πŸ™„

    Call yourselves fans? Pah.

  11. daisy424 says:

    Linda; So what?

  12. Oh Yeah says:

uggghh these tabloids, really who are their “sources” and the “insiders” who reported these things to the tabloids mag i bet that’s the voices in their heads. I hope NE, Life & Style and the rest of those lying tabs will go out of business one these days.

  13. actingrc says:

kaiser – may not want to use sofia coppola as your example. i mean she’s fine i guess. but no talent or skills and living off her dad’s reputation. i’ve seen her speak. she’s dumb as a post. a big thick post. not a poster child for the use of travel as a substitute for education.

  14. Kaiser says:

I don’t get it… was Linda yelling at me and MSat because she thought that we thought this was a new picture of Empress Z?

I just love *any* pic of my Empress. She’s such a little cutie. But thanks for trying to piss all over that, Linda.

  15. Kaiser says:

@actingrc – I’m not a huge Sofia Coppola fan, but she’s not as ridiculous as you make her out to be. And Maddox is being educated, he’s just not going to school right now.

  16. vdantev says:

insider= ‘someone who is paid to make this sh*t up’.

  17. Syko says:

Love seeing Z! And Maddox is getting cuter all the time.

Of course he’s being educated. Traveling, living in other countries, and at all times the classes continue. Life education is always more durable than book education anyway, and he’s getting a great education from his life. He’ll do fine when Z exercises her right to nepotism and makes him her secretary of state.

  18. Kaiser says:

@Syko – I was thinking that Maddox would be Her Royal Highness’s Cultural Ambassador.

  19. KERRI says:

@Pamela – “it might be the phone, or probably one of the chairs or tables. You just can’t trust furniture these days, they will rat you out in a minute”.

I have been wondering about these private phones conversations reaching the public for eons. You may be right — perhaps it is the “house”

    GET OUT!!! πŸ˜•

  20. Syko says:

Great idea, Kaiser! Only with some more pretentious high-falootin’ title. Royal Empirical Global Ambassador and Cultural Advisor to HRH Zahara Marley Jolie-Pitt Rossdale. Or something.

  21. Codzilla says:

I think Sofia’s enormously talented. Just saying …

  22. Kaiser says:

@Syko – Maddox will be Senior Global Cultural Ambassadorial Attache and Special Counsel to Her Majesty, Empress Zahara Marley Jolie-Pitt-Stefani-Rossdale.

  23. Syko says:

Excellent, Kaiser! You do have a way with words. Looking for a diplomatic position for yourself, huh?

  24. breederina says:

@ actingrc:re; Ms. Coppola, dumb as a post? So “Lost in Translation” and “Virgin Suicides” were both flukes? Not too mention incredible style, impeccable manners and a thoughtful intelligent way of speaking.
    Jealous much?

  25. daisy424 says:

    Syko & Kaser; Stefani-Rossdale??? πŸ™„

I was hoping Empress Zahara would enjoy being fixed up with one of my Grandsons. πŸ˜‰

  26. Barb says:

Wow, I can’t believe anyone would think that being bilingually educated by a (no doubt highly qualified) tutor teaching what is surely an accredited curriculum, while living all over the world and having all the opportunities of museums, historical sites, cultural exhibitions, etc. etc. ETC. that comes with travel like that, is somehow inferior to a standard 2nd grade school classroom. The notion that to grow “socially” a child must be with others of their own age in a traditional classroom setting has been thoroughly debunked. A child being educated the way Maddox is being educated will come out far ahead of his peers academically, and as long as he has other kids to play with (which obviously is not an issue), he’ll get all the socialization he needs. Get over it, folks.

  27. aaaaaaaaaaaaaaa says:

“Life education is always more durable than book education anyway, and he’s getting a great education from his life”
Syco – are you for real?? I’m not saying life education is invaluable, because we all know that’s just silly, but a “book education” as you call it is certainly necessary. Is life education going to teach him about history and economics? Science? Advanced Levels of Math? All this is aside from the social experiences of going to school and making friends. Apologies to anyone home schooled out there, but I remember going to college with some home school people and they were all a little socially retarted.

  28. aaaaaaaaaaaaaaa says:

Hah – Barb, please further explain this “debunking” of peer socialization and classroom learning! I’d love to hear it. I understand there’s more than one way to skin a cat and the traditional classroom is challenged every day, often with positive results – agreed! But how do you expect this kid to socialize with anyone outside of his family and/or “security team” when they move every couple of months and the kid is home-schooled? I don’t see that as “socialization” at all!

  29. Kaiser says:

Syko – Hopefully my position will be Her Majesty’s Special Envoy to All That Is In Gerard Butler’s Pants.

My back-up position (ahem, ahem) is Her Majesty’s Mistress of The Snark.

@Daisy – Too late. Kingston got there first. πŸ˜›

  30. pamela says:

CiCi, you sound like the voice of authority on all things Brad and Angie. And that’s a very broad statement to make, that EVERY PARENT has had this conversation, ergo, the story is true.

KERRI, usually I suspect Shiloh or Z of giving all the juicy details to the tabs, but hell, they weren’t even at TIFF, so that lets them off the hook. LOL.

  31. Trillion says:

    Kaiser: you’re too much!
Maddox won’t be deprived of jack. Ever. I’d LOVE to have grown up the way he is. (as far as I know, anyway) His parents seem totally crazy about him and they both seem to have good priorities especially by Hollywood standards. Maddox is better of far away from that place anyhow. More power to the little dude.

  32. pamela says:

Kaiser, you always make me LOL when reading your posts. Miss Z is surely going to rule the world.

  33. Anne says:

Homeschooling is far better than being sent to a different school every few months.

  34. zxzx says:

he was never going to attend the stand up 2 cancer concert BECAUSE HE WOULD OF SPENT EVEN MORE TIME AWAY SO AVOIDED STORIES LIKE THIS CRAP IN THE NE.

  35. KatyAlia says:

    Wow…Brangeloonie-Overtime on this site.

  36. Jeanne says:

How does the poor kid concentrate? What a raw deal. He probably liked attending school so he could meet other kids.

  37. Ashley says:

I know AngieJo is a good mom but having assitants take him shopping and moving their kids from one to school to another is really going to mess them up when their older.

Plus I have a feeling Maddox is a HUGE momma’s boy. AJ coddled him so much as a child I’m sure he’ll be like one of those kids that never moves out.

Somehow I have a feeling these kids are going to grow up to be Hollywood brats. They’ll have their charities but I don’t think Angie and Brad’s dreams of them becoming a doctor with Doctor’s Without Borders or a journalist in war torn countires will be realized. Even “normal” Hollywood kids (the Willis children who grew up in Colorado) still become fame whores.
