Better late than never, O.J. Simpson found guilty

Late Friday night the twelve person jury deliberating on the latest O.J. Simpson case came back with a guilty verdict, on all 12 counts.  Simpson and co-defendant Clarence Stewart were taken into custody immediately following the reading of the verdict.

The jury of nine men and three women, none of them African-American, began deliberations Friday after hearing from 22 witnesses over 12 days of testimony. Chief among the witnesses were seven of the nine people inside Room 1203 of the Palace Station Hotel and Casino for the September 13, 2007 confrontation.

The evidence included testimony from the two dealers, four co-defendants who cut plea deals and cooperated with prosecutors and hours of often-profane, crackling, secretly recorded audiotapes.

Prosecutors alleged that the men, led by Simpson, burst into the room, flashed a gun and threatened memorabilia dealers Bruce Fromong and Al Beardsley.

The men then filled two pillowcases with Simpson trinkets, signed Pete Rose baseballs and Joe Montana lithographs. Simpson’s defense attorneys maintained their client was merely trying to retrieve personal photographs and other mementos that belonged to him.

When you get away with murder, a little armed robbery and kidnapping is nothing.

Neither Simpson nor Stewart took the stand in their own defense.  The trial was marked with an abundance of drama as the players on both sides of the case, lawyers and witnesses alike, took every opportunity to make a spectacle of themselves.

As testimony neared its end, (Judge Jackie) Glass, a former television news reporter, vented her frustration with the quibbling lawyers.

“I’m trying to get this trial back on track,” she snapped. “I am surprised you haven’t seen my head spin and fire come out of my mouth at this point in this trial.”

Sentencing is scheduled for December 5, so O.J. has a couple months to contemplate the very real possibility of finally spending the rest of his life in jail.  Simpson is 61 now and he’s facing 15 years to life for the charges he was found guilty of Friday night.  O.J. let out a deep sigh when he was taken into custody, probably because he knows this was thirteen years in coming.

Thirteen years to the day.  In a beautiful display of poetry in justice, O.J. Simpson was found guilty of the crimes that could at last put him in prison for life, thirteen years to the day of his aquittal for murders of Nicole Brown Simpson and Ronald Goldman.

Attorneys for Simpson asked that he be released pending sentencing, which Judge Glass quickly and soundly denied.  They also announced their intention to appeal the verdicts, asking the judge for an extension on the deadline for filing the appeal, which was also denied.

Well, its about time, I hope he never gets out of prison.

  2. geronimo says:

    Oh happy day.

  3. Megan says:

    Praise the lord!

  4. KERRI says:

It’s been 13 years this month that he was found “innocent” on his murder chargers. It took 13 years to finally avenge those murders with a conviction of “guilty” on his robbery/kidnapping chargers. Karma!!

  5. SolitaryAngel says:

YES!! Finally! Karma is exactly right.

  6. vdantev says:

Good things to those who wait.

  7. OfficeDude says:

Yah! It is about time this guy has been found guilty 😆

Folks are begining to show their happyness. Heck some are already creating t-shirts http://www.cafepress.com/ojguilty

  8. Carrie says:

I remember to this day how shocked and disappointed I was when he was acquitted 13 years ago. Remember phoning my girlfriend in California who was a friend of Nicole’s sister, and her in tears of rage and despair.

Let’s hope the judge has the courage to hand out a life sentence.

  9. geronimo says:

Agree with a life sentence but ONLY if it’s appropriate for this particular crime in the state in which he’s being tried. Really important here to not give him ANY room for appeals or accusations that he’s being unfairly punished for an unrelated earlier crime.

That said, hope the court errs on the side of the most severe sentence allowable. If that happens to be life, then great. Finally some small comfort to those who’ve watched him get away with murder.

  10. AzzedineAliaFan says:

that’s what you get when you stray, leaving your wife . . . now they got you, and you probalby did do it, don’t expect the black community to rally behind your a$$ you left for your beverly hills caucosoids.

  11. Anni says:

    Karma is a bitch.

  12. Codzilla says:

geronimo: I’m pretty sure that a life sentence, or at least a really LONG sentence, is warranted because of the kidnapping and armed robbery charges. We’ll see what happens, though.

  13. daisy424 says:

    Justice 😛

  14. mike says:

Well we will see how good OJ does in the real can when he gets to state prison My bet is that he ends up being a PC ( protective custody inmate) for the rest of his days. He will be sacred to death to go out in population because he just may become someone’s bitch

  15. geronimo says:

codzilla – oh completely, my point really was that his sentence doesn’t give him any valid grounds for appeal. I too hope it’s life.

  16. abbizmal says:

My faith in our justice system is a little renewed. Finally, that mean son of a bitch is going down. w00t! If he were convicted of the murders, like he should’ve been, he wouldn’t have been able to do this to someone. The fact that he did this should show those believing he was innocent that they were wrong. He probably thought he was invincible because he got away with it before. Hahaha, not this time though.

  17. Anon says:

Ok not that I care about OJ but how can you have faith in the justice system. OJ was acquitted of the charges 13yrs ago and should have no bearing on his current case. The jury was not diverse enough and this was a clear set up from the beginning. It is sad that this is the same justice system that we have to live under. I smell a mistrial because the trial was not fear. This is ridiculous and a shame….

  18. Anne says:

    Yayyyyy!

  19. Candy says:

    HurraY!!!!!!!!

  20. William says:

The defense attorney seems to be playing the retribution card as a substitute for the race card in this case. The vengeful inequities of the publics collective conscience concerning the outcome of his murder trial has nothing to do with the particular felonies committed in this case. Why is the verdict in this case so enigmatic for so many Americans who simply can’t surmount their affinity with “the juice”? Somewhere in that disturbed and sociopathic psyche of O.J. Simpson,is a man who was hoping he would in fact be arrested and imprisoned, this is my impression. Maybe now Simpson can sleep soundly at night. Let none of us take delight in another mans self inflicted tragedies, but instead let the spirits of his victims be appeased and now rest in peace. Fiat justitia ruat caelum.

  21. CL says:

I’ve just texted my whole family and told them about it 🙂 This is a great day.

  22. jennifer says:

Oddly enough, he’ll probably do more time for this than he would have for murder.

I agree 100% that the events of the first trial better not have played any part in this case – as someone mentioned, you don’t want ANY grounds for appeal! But also yeah, regardless of who he is he deserves a fair trial. However, I still can’t help but feel that finally, this guy is getting what’s coming to him. If you’re involved in 2 major criminal cases, something tells me you’re not the kind of guy who should be wandering the streets, you know what I’m sayin? 😉

  23. WTF?!?! says:

    Sing it with me, people:

    Nah nah nah nah
    Nah nah nah nah
    Hey Hey
    Good bye

Maybe now the Goldmans can finally get some compensation on their judgement, since OJ won’t be free to hide and move assets around. Or even play 18 holes of golf. Ever. Again.

And good for the judge for denying their motion to be released until the hearing. You KNOW he would’ve totally jumped bail and headed for some island somewhere.

Some prison bubba is gonna LOVE making old OJ his bitch.
    Oh, happy day!!!

  24. xxx says:

9 women jurors and 3 men…. as soon as I knew he was being tried in Vegas I knew he’d be found guilty. Vegas is a bitch with payback. 😯

  25. Syko says:

I’m glad he’s going to do time – but he’s still had a lot of years of freedom that Nicole and Ron didn’t get. It’s still not justice for them.

  26. ohforf says:

I wouldn’t count on him getting more than 20 years to be honest. While he may have been guilty before, he was never convicted, and this being his first CONVICTION, they can’t give him too harsh a sentence, lest they appear biased. First time offenders are given some unbelievably light sentences.

  27. vdantev says:

true, except for a federal crime like kidnapping.(fingers are crossed though)

  28. Carrie says:

Agree about everyone having a right to a fair trial. But I think what people are celebrating here is the concept of natural justice rather than the law of the land.

  29. WTF?!?! says:

ohforf, it’s not his first conviction. In 1991 he was sentenced to pay fines and do 200 hours community service for beating his wife (and police were called on numerous occasions for beating Brown and Prody) and since he has now in addition been CONVICTED of multiple felonies, he can go away for life.

  30. caribassett says:

    GOOD!!!

  31. doodahs says:

I agree with William… I think on a deep level, OJ wanted to be ‘caught’ and imprisoned or at least further vilified on the public level. With the canceled release of the insane “If I did It” book last year, I think it was only a matter of time before he did something to put himself in a position of ‘guilt’. With a profile like his, who gets involved in something this ridiculous (armed robbery, kidnapping) without knowing that capture means imprisonment and a ‘guilty’ sentence?…. What a tragic waste of human existence.

  32. Leandra says:

What goes around comes around. And that goes to the dumb ass jury that let him off the first time.

  33. Nina says:

The same white women that OJ rejected black women for are sending his butt to jail! Karma is a bigger and better bitch than any woman I know!

I hope that the Goldman’s are dancing in the streets, they’ve had to wait 13 long years for this.

Big Bubba is rubbing his balls and waiting to make OJ his jailhouse bitch

  34. DogRunner says:

    Rot in prison SCUM!

  35. Orangejulius says:

    Better late than never.

  36. Jinxy says:

I do almost feel sorry for CJ Stewart, he was probably along for the ride to support an old friend and because he didn’t take a plea deal he’s going to die in prison as well.

I don’t feel sorry for OJ he’s always felt he was above the law, when he beat Nicole Brown over and over and was never charged, when he finally killed her and Ron Goldman. So why would he get in trouble for armed robbery and kidnapping? Only this time it was in the wrong city with the wrong prosecutor, and finally – the wrong jury.

  37. Jeanne says:

Lady Justice finally got your ass O.J. I guess when you got away with murder you just thought you were untouchable. You pushed your luck. Payback’s a bitch! How stupid going to prison for stealing your own bullshit trophies back. Once you got them back anyway they would have gone to Fred Goldman who you owe a ton of money to for murdering his son.

  38. julius berger says:

OJ will be discharged and acquitted on appeal, the simple truth is that these particular charges dont stick, a guy has a natural right to recover from a thief what has been stolen frm him, wait and see

  39. Dandee says:

julius berger: You are correct that a person has a right to things that have been stollen from them, BUT the way in which O.J. went about it was AGAINST THE LAW. He had NO right to hold those men in that room.

  40. LOYLTOTN says:

When Howard Cosell retired many years ago, he stated in an interview about famous people he had known that he wondered what was in store for you in the future OJ. He referred to you as a “poor selfish lost soul”…if he only knew!

  41. gg says:

I will never forget the horror in the office of the lawfirm where I worked when this Kreep was set free. There were a few people dancing around saying “thank god he’s free at last!!” That sick feeling has not gone away for me, and it is karmic justice, self-inflicted, subconscious or not, which has landed this man back in jail.

  42. JaundiceMachine says:

    I’m on your wavelength, William.

  43. eric says:

A 15 year sentence sounds ridiculously
high for what actually happened. Robbing some guys, with no one actually getting hurt, first offense, and 15 years?

I’m pretty sure a no name punk from the
projects wouldn’t get 15 years for
    a first offense armed robbery.

Sounds like OJ is getting his sentence
inflated to make up for the innocent
finding years earlier that no one likes.
