Julia Roberts’s jeans & trench coat premiere look: that’s so tacky, or that’s cute?

Sigh… I cannot tell you how happy I am that Julia Roberts has gone back to a nice shade of red. I get tired of redheads trying to make the blonde thing work. Julia Roberts has too much time wasting her ginger on blonde, strawberry-blonde and brunette for too many years. While those shades don’t really look hideous on her, but I missed her natural red hair and I’m happy with this current color. She looks so much prettier as a bright redhead. But I digress – these are photos from the Tribeca Film Festival premiere of Jesus Henry Christ, a film that Julia does not star in, but exectuive produced. The film sounds okay – mawkish coming of age story, starring Toni Collette as a feminist mom who conceived her son in a petri dish, and then that adolescent son goes in search of his father. Eh. Oh, and he’s a genius. So it’s like Little Man Tate meets The Kids Are All Right. Meh. People Magazine had an interview with Jules on the red carpet. No, she’s didn’t declare “THAT’S SO TACKY” even once. Disappointing!

Julia Roberts is an Academy Award-winning actress, a box-office champ, a Broadway star and now the executive producer of Jesus Henry Christ, which debuted Saturday at the Tribeca Film Festival in New York. But her kids want her to whip up another successful career.

“They think that I’m a good cook,” Roberts, 43, told PEOPLE at the premiere. “They actually told me that I should open a restaurant.”

Henry, 3, and twins Hazel and Phinnaeus, 6, say their favorite dish is “everything made with love,” Roberts said.

For now, though, Roberts is focused on her film, which she worked on with her older sister Lisa Gillan, who co-produced, and her husband, cinematographer Danny Moder, who shot it.

“It was so great to be working on the same movie with him. He’s so good at what he does. He’s so clear and focused,” Roberts said of Moder, whom she met while working on 2001’s The Mexican. “It’s actually hard to get his attention on the set because he’s really like, ‘No, I’m working.’ But at lunch I will be like, ‘Hi, remember me, your wife?’ ”

As for working with her sister, Roberts, who walked the red carpet with Lisa, says filming went smoothly thanks to their strong bond. In fact, it’s rare that they will have a fight.

“We are always happy. We maybe will have an argument once a year just to get it out of our system so we don’t make people sick,” Roberts said with her signature boisterous laugh. “We’ve shared a room for 12 years and we lived in the same apartment building. We liked living together. So we know everything about each other. We’re very close.”

Working with loved ones certainly makes the film-making experience richer but Roberts also enjoyed her role as a producer, rather than the leading lady.

“The best part for me being a producer was creating an environment that makes actors comfortable,” the Eat, Pray, Love star said. “It’s about not bugging them and trusting them. The actors took the parts that we already loved and turned them into these glorious machinations of quirky, amazing characters, so we were thrilled.”

Yeah, Julia is famously tight with her sister, but not her brother Eric. So be it, I’m not going to get involved in that issue. I did find the little part about Danny Moder interesting… Julia is such a drama queen that she’s still talking about the one time her husband ignored her so that he could do his work. It’s funny because that’s what you get when you marry Julia “It’s All About ME!” Roberts!

I like her coat, by the way. The Tribeca Film Festival is pretty low-key, so her outfit is acceptable for the event. She also looks like she’s lost some weight since the Eat Pray Love media tour.

    That’s not red
And her natural hair colour isn’t red either. Neither is Amy Adam’s:

  2. kazoo says:

all these years, and she still can’t dress well.

i agree with you, i love natural red hair. gingers need to just embrace it.

oh and this movie sounds interesting. i might go see. i love toni collette.

  3. brin says:

Not digging the outfit (even if Tribeca is low key) but her hair & makeup look pretty good.

  4. Granger says:

Not that it’s really important but I can’t tell at all if she’s lost weight. She’s entirely covered up by a trench coat — except her legs, which are always skinny anyway.

I’m getting tired of her signature hairdo. If Aniston can change it up a bit, so can you, Jules.

  5. tracking says:

She couldn’t have hooked her sister up with some stylish clothing? Sisterly love indeed.

  6. victoria says:

    she ooozes pretentiousness.

  7. victoria says:

totally agree about the sister. why would you look so dumpy when you KNOW you are going to be photographed by the world?

  8. Tanya says:

That “made with love” comment “made me barf”!

  9. Oi says:

I think she’s had more work done. her eyes look a little off. Its an ok outfit, just boring.

  10. Rhiley says:

I agree that her sister looks a little frumpy, like she is head to toe LL Bean. But I do think she is attractive. She has a prettier mouth than Julia. Oh, and I agree about the barfing comment that Tanya made. I wonder if Julia is trying to scootch into Goopy Poo’s terriority.

  11. Kimbob says:

Julia Roberts a natural redhead? Puleez! Although Julia does look good when she colors her hair red..yes. I always knew she wasn’t a natural redhead, though. Thanks for pointing that out, Sash.

  12. jello says:

Don’t jump on me but I like Jules, always have. She speaks straight and yes she does make it about herself but I find her entertaining. Plus I think she’s aging really well.

  13. Ari says:

I like Julia (not love) and can believe at least she actually cooks unlike Paltrow (no matter how many celebrities saw her doing it lol)

I am also glad Julia hasn’t started to jack up her face yet – she looks really good.

  14. kazoo says:

oh, wow didn’t know julia wasn’t a natural redhead. still, it looks really good on her. she should go back to it.

  15. Solveig says:

Wasn’t her hair always brown-ish? She’s not a redhead, Julianne Moore is.
It amazes me that she never changes, she has this face since I saw her the first time in Pretty Woman, and she doesn’t have the frozen appearance of someone who obviously gets some help from surgeons.

  16. Rhiley says:

Remaking her sister’s wadrobe would make a really fun What Not to Wear episode. I bet Stacy and Clinton could work wonders for her.

  17. jane16 says:

She looks good, but she always says the dumbest things.

  18. original kate says:

“But at lunch I will be like, ‘Hi, remember me, your wife?’”

    translation: i’m julia roberts, bitch!

  19. junipergreen says:

@Sash– Christina Hendricks’s hair isn’t actually red, either. I find it amusing how so many people are like, “Oh, she’s such a beautiful natural ginger with curves!” The boobs were bought and the hair is dyed. She’s naturally a light blonde. I think she’s gorgeous and I love her, but buxom ginger she is not. Well, buxom, yes, but not entirely real.

Julia Roberts. Meh. (I had to say something on topic!)

  20. Kim says:

I dont like her acting or personality but i think the trenchcoat and jeans is cute. And her hair looks good.

  21. bluhare says:

Julia Roberts’ lips have always looked off to me. Her top lip has no shape just like people who’ve had filler.

  22. Mary Jane says:

@Tanya: Haha! Me, too! Reminds me of somthing Goopy would say…

  23. Debsa says:

I am not a fan, no matter what her hair colour…

  24. manda says:

meets the world according to garp!

  25. serena says:

@bluhare: no shape? so what. She always had her lips like that, and I know a lot of people who have no-shape-lips too. I find it sexy.

Anyway I don’t think she did surgery to her face, maybe just some botox? That’s it, I think she’s aging very well.

THAT is her sister? They’re totally not alike…woah.

  26. Newbie says:

she looks a little…pinched or pulled. I can’t explain it. I’ve always thought she was a really beautiful woman, but she seems to be going the surgical way of all of hollywood in order to stay young and “wrinkleless”. Oh, and her hair doesn’t look red to me. It still looks blonde-ish.
