Kristen Stewart in Proenza Schouler at the Met Gala: lip-biting disaster or pretty?

wenn5646988

Here is little Kristen Stewart working an off-beat red-and-black patterned Proenza Schouler gown at last night’s Met Gala (which was a tribute to McQueen, “Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty”). Do I have to suck it up and admit to liking something that K-Stew did? Kind of. While this dress isn’t what I would choose for a red carpet, and it’s not what I would have picked out for Kristen (if I was styling her in some kind of dream situation), the dress looks pretty good on her.

I was going to nit-pick the way the dress fit on Kristen’s bust, but as really looked at it, the fit is rather beautiful, and that’s WHY the dress works on her so well. The pattern of the fabric (some kind of heavy silk, I believe) is unique, especially for this kind of event. So, my verdict on the dress: off-beat, but solid.

As for Kristen’s hair and makeup… eh, I kind of like it too. The hair is kind of messy, but it still looks “done” and “fashiony” and somebody gave Kristen dark eyes and a pale mouth, a combo that works well with her coloring. I’m glad she didn’t do the red-dress/red-lips thing. I also give her credit for actually smiling and posing like a fashion girl on the red carpet, as opposed to just scowling and looking like a troll (like usual).

The style is good but I don’t like the pattern, and the back of her shoes look strange with the slit.

  2. Rachel says:

I hate it, she looks like she is wearing drapes. Well fitting drapes, but drapes none the less.

  3. kayla says:

That dress belongs on a bombshell with attitude, not a sulky girl with terrible posture.

  4. Cherry Rose says:

    I actually like it. *gasp*

  5. TXCinderella says:

I don’t care for her, but the dress is rockin’! I don’t like the double matching bracelets though. One would have been enough and add some sexy dangly earrings.

  6. PrettyTarheel says:

The SHOES!!!!! Not a word about the shoes!!!!!!!! I love the shoes-if I had skinny ankles and calves (which may never happen again, thanks a lot BabyTarheel), I would be trying to find a knock off of those.

  7. Coca says:

She looks fabulous! The dress was different to everybody else. I love the back. The color really suits her. Her hair and make-up are flawless. She shoes are awesome. She worked it!! She looks fierce!

  8. Marjalane says:

Can’t decide; I think it’s to do with the pattern on the dress.

  9. You don't say says:

Nice color and cut, but the pattern made me dizzy. She does not know how to carry that type of style though. The shoes are great and a nice break from the Frankenstein loubitins everyone wears. Sleek and pretty.

  10. Shay says:

Proenza Schouler has some of the ugliest clothes I’ve ever seen.

  11. Bea says:

Much better than the one from last year.

  12. francesca says:

Am I the only one who is having trouble with the “Shop” window popping up and covering the text in articles? Am I doing something wrong here??

  13. khaveman says:

Gorgeous, gorgeous fabric. She looks pretty in it and glad she’s attempting to smile. The top seems a little loose and I agree, the back of the shoe is a little unfeminine with the slit. But I give her an A.

  14. woooow Kristen Stewart is trying to POSE! wow! what an effort! I feel honoured

  15. Lady Jane says:

    love it!

  16. Angb says:

    Gorgeous.

  17. Angb says:

Very sexy. The back is my favorite part.

  18. Vee says:

Gorgeous and different! The back is incredible.

  19. Emily says:

Love the shoes! Not sure about the dress. Hate the hair.

  20. baby says:

    she looks good!

  21. RocketMerry says:

Red is most definetely her colour. She looks good!

  22. lucy2 says:

I don’t really like it, but for her, it’s great.

  23. buzzaroo says:

The dress is ok, ill-fitting but ok, not great though. S’pose the real problem is the chick in it.

  24. iheartlasagne says:

I kind of like this chick, although I still refuse to be dragged into the Twilight bullshit. She’s not conventionally pretty, but has great skin and is attractive. Dark eyes and pale lips works well on her IMO since her lips are so thin & she has great eyes. I like the whole package, I like her fearless fashion. She looks good!

  25. tanya says:

The shoes are HOT – I agree with @youdon’tsay that Louboutins are getting a little played out lately, so it’s refreshing to see something different.

I think she looks good, and I love the makeup on her.

  26. junipergreen says:

Looks like drapes. Looks like the texture of drapes, too. Fail. I do like her hair, though, but maybe not so much for the red carpet. Or maybe red carpet but with a different dress. But I do give her credit–she clearly tried this time. She’s pretty.

  27. marge says:

    love love loooove the shoes!!!!
the dress… it looks like high-end italian upholstery to me. Gorgeous for a retro looking chair

  28. Annaloo says:

UGH! I saw that print and immediately thought of the ugly couch my parents used to have in the 70’s…poor kristen

  29. Micki says:

I like the dress, hate these shoes with it (otherwise they are great) and her posture is pure “delight” as always

  30. Lindy says:

LOVE the whole thing, top to toe–and did you see those amazing shoes that echo the dress pattern without being too matchy-matchy?

I think she’s gorgeous, I really do. I think I will officially stop hating on her. The last few interviews I read she came across as pretty witty and wise. She seems smart. And you know what? In a world full of Linnocents and Blake Livelys, I’ll take smart.

  31. mia girl says:

I about fell off my chair when I saw that @Kaiser led the post with a picture of Stewart SMILING! Its a first folks. You must be in a dress haze and feeling generous. 🙂

I think this is an A. Her makeup is great and I like her hair, it gives a soft, fresh feel to contrast the in your face print of the dress. These shoes on her skinny little ankles look UMAZING

SOOOO agree with @youdontsay and @tanya… those clunky Louboutins have lost their flare.

  32. almond says:

She looks pretty and actually pleased to be there. The whole ensemble works, if in a strange way, and it totally fits her style. I’m surprised, however, by the soft-romantic hair and the eye makeup. It all looks good though.

EDIT: The back of the dress is incredibly sexy and, oddly enough, I like how the shoes go with the dress.

  33. postaldog says:

I think it looks nice on her. She doesn’t have an overt figure, but she’s got enough curves to give the dress shaping. The slit, the back — minimal sexy…and those shoes! Too hot! Her makeup isn’t over the top, she’s smiling, her posture’s only off in that one pic where she’s going up stairs.
It looks like a win to me.

  34. dorothy says:

Too loud, too in your face. This gown is more a VH1 awards dress.

  35. Sassy says:

Like her hair and makeup. Love the cut/style of the dress but the pattern is hideous.

  36. your mama says:

I love it – but yeah MTV awards instead and I LOVE the shoes. They are bad @ss!!

  37. kikay says:

It’s a winner,w/ a capital W.She absolutely look phenomenal in her daring red gown,so different w/ everybody else. And her make up …..flawless,w/ a capital F.I like it that she’s not scared to take a risk to try something new,and by golly she got it right ,big time! And the shoes my god it’s to die for.Way to go Kristen, you’re no:1 in my book!

  38. Jane says:

It looks like a curtain, and she still has that sour expression. I just saw that she seriously changed into skinny jeans and t-shirt at the party. She poses on the red carpet but can’t keep up the appearance even for one evening.

  39. pyewakette says:

Sorry but the dress reminds me of a table runner! Yes the fit is great and I love her makeup, hair is OK.

  40. Cheyenne says:

Love the dress and she looks great in it.

  41. k says:

    That dress is rad.

  42. MarenGermany says:

ahhh come on guys, I dont get the kristen-bashing on this side (and normally I agree with most of what Kaiser and CB say)

She looks fabulous here, and I totally HATE the dress. She seems sweet, harmless, genuine, and the contempt-vibe she might give some people is -if you ask me- way more a contempt for the industry and the hype. She seems to be no fame-whore and those girls are hard to find in Hollywood.
Guys, give her a break 🙁

  43. Sue says:

Nothing about this dress is sexy it’s ill fitting, no defined waist line and make her look like she has an 8 year old boy chest.

I LOVE the shoes their HOT.

  44. Az says:

I’ve always thought this girl is gorgeous. Love that she wore a more saturated color and not a nude which would have killed her. But I have to say, that lady going up the stairs behind her is killing it.

  45. Hanh says:

The dress needs tailoring on her boobs. It just looks like she’s trying to smuggle werewolves under there. Awful.

  46. talia says:

I don’t really get dissing her for having a small chest. why are there always people saying stuff like she looks like a 10 year old boy, would you rather she get surgery and implant it up like Blake? I don’t know, there’s something really refreshing about a girl who owns what her mama gave her,I like her small chested swagger.

  47. serena says:

I guess it kind of works, still I’m not convinced.
Good make up but horrible hairstyle.

  48. gabs says:

I love it for her. The shoes are my favorite part though, im glad she showed them in the pictures and posed the right ways. I see why people think its a little like curtains but I like it. Also like that she kept her lips pale and didnt try to do dark lips because of the dark dress. It wouldnt have worked on her. The hair is messy but messy hair is a kstew trademark. It wouldnt be right if she showed up all polished. Shes smiling more and looking confident. Good for her

  49. Ari says:

She looks absolutely stunning and the style completely suits her and she looks thrilled to be in it (for once) whoever styled her should be her stylist for-EVER

  50. Amanda G says:

Wow, that dress certainly gets your attention. Not sure if I like it or not. She looks very mature there.

  51. Brittney says:

Oh my goodness, the back of the dress! The shoes! The hair! THE SHOES!

    I’m pleasantly surprised.

  52. Isa says:

I can’t believe you said nothing about her eyeliner!!! lol.

  53. blahblah says:

I absolutely love the way she looks here. For some reason is the first time I see her looking comfortable in a red carpet. You can tell she felt pretty wearing this dress. It was not only something her stylist chose and forced on her, but the pattern and colors are strong and she probably liked that. The shoes are killer!

  54. Bill Hicks is God says:

Something about her screams “overalls” to me and I don’t know why…

  55. jemshoes says:

As was mentioned in a previous post about Rob Pattinson being more relaxed on the red carpet when it’s got nothing to do with Twilight, I think this is the same for Kristen. They’re both starting to see the light at the end of the Twilight tunnel (to quote you Kaiser) and I bet they’ll both be happier for it, too. Kristen looks lovely, and the dress suits her image: a little different, a little uncompromising and uncomfortable, but still noteworthy.

  56. Newbie says:

I don’t really like it, but I like how she’s really confident in it. It makes it work.

  57. Liana says:

she looks amazing. I really do like her, even though at times I want to stuff her words back in her mouth.

  58. Nikki says:

Hate it, don’t think it’s flattering at all, it doesn’t fit her well. It would work if it conformed to her figure a little more.

  59. Francesca says:

She looks good and a little vampiric; it’s perfect for her.
