Gwyneth Paltrow loves her children too much to do a Broadway musical

It’s super-slow today, which is why I’m doing a non-story about Gwyneth Paltrow. I got on tip on my Twitter a few days ago that Gwyneth Paltrow was back in London, out-shining Kate Middleton with her grace and class and shiny hair. Gwyneth appeared on a BBC weekend show, Something for the Weekend, and she was apparently insufferable, like always. There was this minor story which came out of the interview:

Gwyneth Paltrow has put off pursuing a theatre role to focus on motherhood.

The Shakespeare In Love star longs to tackle a part on Broadway or in London’s West End but she has delayed her dream because of her commitment to daughter Apple, six, and five-year-old son Moses, her kids with rocker husband Chris Martin.

Speaking on U.K. TV show Something For The Weekend, she says, “Yes, I’d love to (appear in a musical theatre role). But not right now. My kids are still at that age where I want to be home for bedtime and on weekends and if you do a play you’re out when they’re home. So it doesn’t make sense now, but maybe, someday.”

I remember that before she had kids, Gwyneth did do a play in London (Proof, I believe), but I guess she’s talking about musical theatre in this interview. But now we know – we can look forward to seeing Dame Goop on the stage when little Apple and Moses are teenagers, probably. In this same interview, Dame Goop also deigned to confirm that she will likely appear in both Iron Man 3, and The Avengers (which is like the “best of” all of the comic super-heroes). Gwyneth said: “I’ll probably be in Iron Man 3. I’ll possibly be very briefly in The Avengers. Maybe, we’ll see.” If that’s not enough, Gwyneth is also going to be making some appearances on this summer’s Glee tour. Because she just has to be at home with her kids all the time! That’s why she’s everywhere lately. Look, I’m not judging, but she can’t have it both ways, can she? Miss Perfect “I Do Everything For My Children, Always” and “I’m so in demand, this book tour is so grueling!”

She’s also threatened to join the cast of The Avengers and return to Iron Man 3. Enough Gwynnie!

    edit: She’s ruining my post-Thor glow :'(

  2. marge says:

god bless those kids… hopefully they will never grow up!

  3. brin says:

It probably kills her that she can never become “Dame Gwyneth”…just damn Goop.

  4. Rita says:

My husband just remodeled our shower with the same little tiles Goop’s dress is made of. Only he did both the front and back.

  5. S says:

You can criticize G for a lot of her snobbiness, but I don’t think the play/musical thing is one of them. They’re hard work and there are usually 8 shows a week, and she’s right, you would be gone when your kids are home from school, so you wouldn’t get to see them much. I don’t fault her for that – she may be a snob, but she’s still a mom who loves her kids, and going away for a week is different from a 6-week theatre run.

  6. S says:

@Rita – if I had her body, I’d be wearing backless dresses with high slits like that too! Unfortunately, I like eating and I don’t have 4 hours a day to spend working out!

  7. original kate says:

this is why goopy makes me cringe: she is insinuating that she has TONS of offers but she is sacrificing them all for her children , because she is a 1950s housewife, if i recall. yet she is everywhere, all the time, a mediocre jill-of-all-trades: singing! dancing! acting! cooking! gooping!

  8. the_blonde_one says:

not a fan currently but many many years ago I was and thought she was so beautiful in a Grace Kelly way. She’s looked pretty but kind of rough lately. Those photos on the other hand are simply stunning. All those things she’s been aiming for (and failing) in various outfits and projects she nails here.

  9. the original bellaluna says:

    @ Rita – Bahahahahahahah! Mornin! 🙂

Yeah, you can’t have it both ways. Men get criticised for wanting their cake and eating it too; women get criticised for trying do “be it all” or “do it all.”

Any one can juggle several *tasks and be mediocre – to – shitty at all of them. It takes dedication to focus on two or three tasks and do them really well.

*for lack of a better word

  10. mia girl says:

In the third pic you can see that even Andy Cohen is throwing GOOP the “bitch please!” side eye.

That says a lot, given that Cohen has to contend with all those insufferable/ delusional Bravo housewives.

  11. courtney says:

has it ever occured to you that maybe Gwyneth Realizes she can’t do 8 shows a week like someone like Vanessa Redgrave who is nearly double her age can and was just nominated for another Tony award after last winning in 2003

  12. lucy2 says:

I get not wanting to commit that much time away from her kids (though she is doing a lot of other stuff) but what bugs me is how hard she’s still pushing this singing thing. She can carry a tune just fine, but it’s not some amazing talent that would make people fall over themselves to make her offers.

  13. Mia135 says:

I agree. She does look lovely in these photos.

  14. Ramona Q. says:

Anyone else notice she got a nose job? Saw her on hi-def tv, and she has those tell-tale dimples/indents on the sides of her nose now.

  15. RHONYC says:

her saying things to appear like she’s a good mother even sound fake to me.

i wish she would just go away. 🙁

  16. Lala11_7 says:

It’s been a while since Gwinnie has looked this good consistently…

  17. Annie says:

Great body but that dress is just slutty to me.

  18. mln76 says:

It would be more believable if she really was spending all of this time with her kids. It looks like she’s away from home a good amount of time. Methinks she just hasn’t had any offers to do a singing role on Broadway (except maybe a revival of Chicago which even Ashley Simpson did)you have to have a really strong set of vocal chords and Goopy’s voice while not awful is pretty weak.

  19. dear kaiser says:

When it is slow you need to pull out this big whopper of a lie on Blythe Danner’s part

    http://sickitten.com/2011/03/08/gwyneth-paltrow-one-word-chutzpah.aspx

And what is up w/the cheap seam inside of the Louboutin instep? Hallmark of a cheap shoe when I piece of material isn’t used. Are they knock offs?

  20. dorothy says:

I think shes totally narcissistic, but the dress is lovely and who can fault her for wanting to be a good mom.

  21. kazoo says:

it annoys me how she makes such a big deal about not working and being there for her kids, yet her husband is never around. chris hasn’t changed his work schedule at all since they’ve had kids. it’s her life, but women who make sacrifices when they have children but allow their husbands to continue their lives the same annoy me greatly.

  22. original kate says:

@ dear kaiser: good lord, that link was nauseating. as for goop’s supposed musical ability, as someone who understand music theory and has been playing the cello for over 25 years i find it highly improbable someone with no musical background could sit down at a piano and play it. not unless they were a prodigy of some kind, but jeez, even mozart took music lessons! next blythe danner will say that goopy was writing concertos at 8 and operas at 12.

    *barf*

  23. gee_gee says:

No. Gwyneth loves US too much to do a Broadway musical. Gwynnie, go back and do another period piece like Emma. Stay off Broadway.

  24. Catherine says:

Good lord, she rocks that dress. Love her or hate her, you have to admit her body is pretty nice.

  25. Dana says:

Was GP offered a role in theater?

  26. Traxie says:

She does look amazing in that dress – especially in the 3rd photo.

  27. Chris says:

Yeah, I postponed running for office so I could be a good dad for my kids. Well, that and the fact that I’m not qualified for the job and I’d have a tough time answering questions about my misspent youth.

Hey remember when Goop did that duet with Huey Lewis?
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U_HaoZ73wWg

I didn’t hate it. Is that wrong of me?

  28. sandy says:

she has been away from her kids for a long while, why she feels guilt now is silly, she’s every where, i saw ten women on the streets looks better than Gwen today, it’s simple why do celebs think they are the only one who can look good/healthy, most normal folks are not fame seeking for revalency/attention. go away already goop, it’s been done before and much better i might add.

  29. jemshoes says:

I agree, Kaiser. You can’t have it both ways.

  30. blouson says:

See this is why I vaguely feel uncomfortable with Goop hate….Blythe and Bruce, no matter how nice they ewre/are in other areas of their lives, created this monster. Take note smug mummies….this is what that nausea inducing spectacle of parental fawning produces: a GOOP.

  31. gloaming says:

@Chris “I didn’t hate it. Is that wrong of me?”

Yes Chris. Yes it is. I think you need to see somebody about that….

  32. Wif says:

She doesn’t have the voice for musical theatre. She can sing fine, but the quality of her voice is more pop music than theatre. Also, singing that many shows a week requires some training to keep it strong, does she have that? So I’ll fault her for being delusional, but I won’t fault her for not wanting to be without the kids in the evenings and on weekends. My kids are 5 and 7 and I still won’t go out 2 consecutive nights in a row. I’d just miss the little bedtime snuggles too much. It goes too fast.

  33. Dana M says:

    Killer legs!!

  34. dj says:

She actually makes a full-time job out of protesting (to the media) “I won’t work because of the children.” Angelina and Brad manage to both work with SIX kids. Huh? LOL.
