Kate Middleton in white & black for Trooping the Colour: fabulous or meh?

trooping_the_colour_2_wenn3388073

Here are some new photos of Kate Middleton and the Duchess of Cornwall at the “Trooping the Color” event today, Saturday. “Trooping the Color” is, from what I understand as an American, just some pomp and pageantry with the royal family and royal guards where everybody does their formations and waves politely. Prince William was with the Irish Guards, wearing his red and black, plus a fancy new-looking bear-skin hat. In case you ever wanted to know what William would look like if he got himself a fabulous black afro toupee, here you go:

It kind of works, right?

Anyway, the “Trooping the Color” event today was for the Queen’s official birthday, but the Queen gets to celebrate her birthday, like, five times a year, so don’t ask. As for Kate/Catherine/Waity, she chose to deck herself in a rather spectacular white coat. I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again: I love when newlywed women wear a lot of white. I find it sweet and appropriate, but I think I love it so much because I just love women in white. I don’t know who did the coat, but the cut is beautiful. As for Kate’s hat… ugh, I’m not a hat person. Sometimes, Kate can pull off a smart hat. I don’t find this one all that attractive, though. It looks like a giant satellite dish stapled to her head.

By the way, at that ARK charity gala that Kate and Will attended Thursday night, Kate was overheard telling guests that she was enjoying married like. A source revealed: “Kate said she was ‘loving it’ when asked what married life was like. She added that it was surreal sometimes but that’s to be expected. She said she was totally and blissfully happy and her eyes lit up whenever William’s name was mentioned. The pair are clearly so in love.”

Once again the Queen wears an incredible brooch. That ole girl really does have great jewelry.

That one day will be Kate’s to borrow from!

I also like the white coat of Kate’s… plus the hat. But I enjoy all the crazy hats they wear to events.

  2. uknowuloveme says:

the queen looks like a blue garden gnome…

  3. k taylor says:

The coat does look nice but a big no on the hat. Harry looks handsome as always in his uniform. Yum!

  4. teehee says:

The queen, IMO, has looked ‘so over it all’ for many decades already. At first she was brimming and radiated, but now she consistently and constantly looks bored and irritated. I guess theres only so much blitz anyone can appreciate.

  5. almond says:

The prince has beautiful lips. Never noticed before. The puffy hat works for him. I like it.

  6. eElizabeth says:

I am loving the queen. She is still “bringing it” after 5-6 decades – she’s in her ’80’s now. She can’t really retire because there is only Charles (not much king potential there), so she has to wait until William is a bit older, I guess. And British royalty only leave the throne by dying – no retirement unless there is abdication (i.e. Edward and Wallis Simpson). And the last abdication was so scandalous that I think the queen would be very reluctant to do this herself.

  7. Ashaya says:

    It’s coloUr

  8. fannomore says:

too dr suess but she’s a cutie

  9. Stephie says:

I love Kate’s hair. Those hats though, wow. I’m not a hat person either though I think the Queen usually gets the hat thing right, even it they make her head look humungous. I’d be mortified in a silly hat like Kate’s wearing. If you going to wear a hat, at least wear one they will shield your face from the sun, eh? Will’s hat? Hehe, amusing. I wonder how much that thing weighs.

  10. Pinky says:

Like five times a year ? Or five times a year ? Airhead.

  11. Keen says:

her hat looks more like a bedpan than a satellite dish.

  12. Tiffany says:

I love it all! The coat, hair and hat. And the fab afro on William. Sorry, but I just love all the pomp and royal stuff there. It’s really amazing to see. I’ve turned into a royalist somehow. Plus, they have great horses, that’s always a plus for me.

  13. KsGirl says:

I *think* this specifically only happens once a year and is an official marking of the Queen’s birthday. I think.

I spent a lot of time in the UK as a kid and I was in London once while this was happening. My mom thought my sisters and I would be fascinated (um, no) so she made us stop and watch. The main amusement for us was waiting for the clattering sound when one of the bearskin hat guys fainted (this is apparently something that happens often enough to be funny, and the dude who faints never lives it down). 2 of them fainted that day. And the Queen, at the time, was on her own horse, riding sidesaddle. I also remember finding a remarkably spherical rock (had to sit on the ground waiting for the Queen….argh), which was the highlight of the day, along with the fainting soldiers. 😀

  14. truetalk says:

    i love camilla’s hat,d queen’s as well but kate….no.

  15. Amy says:

LOL at William’s hat. I always found those humongous black furry things amusing. Is the chin strap supposed to become below his lips though? It makes it looks like it doesn’t fit properly.

I’ve always liked Kate’s hat. Usually I don’t like those kind of hats but she always finds chic designs I like. And her coat is awesome.

The Queen looks nice as usual. But I honestly don’t differentiate between any of her outfits anymore. They all look the same to me, just in different colors.

Harry looks hot as usual. And Camilla… her jewelry is nice!

  16. brin says:

She looks great, she is really turning into quite the style icon.

  17. Crash2GO2 says:

Yes, Will does have sexy lips, doesn’t he? I just wish he could do something about his hair, but being royalty and all, perhaps he fears it would appear too frivolous.

I think Kate looks lovely. She really has not taken a bad step, has she?

  18. OtherChris says:

@Hautie, I was checking out the queen’s broach too!

Waity looks gorgeous, as usual. She can wear anything. Well, except for that hat. But you know how they love their nutty hats.

  19. Hellen says:

I want to see the rest of Kate’s coat, it looks like she’s got some kind of a ruffled/tailcoat effect going on. She looks great, I’m even willing to give the silly hat a pass.

Her Maj looks good, as always, although I wonder if she might have osteoporosis. Love the dotted trim on her outfit.

  20. Boo says:

Kate looks lovely. I’ve trained myself to ignore the hats and focus only on the other stuff.

The fainting hat guys…I could see it. Those hats are HEAVY…our high school band had the same uniform that Wills is wearing, and the school had like three authentic bearskin hats–the kids who wore them said they were nightmarishly heavy. Standing at attention in the sun in a very heavy hat…yep. I’d be fainting, too.

  21. fhm says:

I like the hat. And William? Purrr…

  22. fizixgirl314 says:

These two are cute and everything but this whole royal thing is so surreal and absurd. It’s like they have refused to grow with the times like the Amish or something… it’s a bit silly…

  23. Mag says:

The coat is Alexander McQueen. It looks badly cut around the arms but the hip details look lovely. Why not wear the hair up?

  24. bluhare says:

She looks good, although her fascihat doesn’t do it for me. I think William looks great in uniform, and he really rocks the hat (and the strap is supposed to rest on the chin). He does have great lips and a sexy nose actually. The Queen, well she’s the Queen!

  25. Anne says:

Kate has stunning taste. Beautiful ensemble.

  26. eny says:

Go to DailyMail.co.uk page. There are many pictures, and you can see more of the coat.

  27. Incognita says:

Kate looks absolutely gorgeous – as usual! In my humble opinion, I think she has the best hair.

  28. Kloops says:

My grandfather was a Scots Guard and hated that stupid bear skin hat. The Brits and their traditions…..

  29. RHONYC says:

she will continuously look ‘meh’ as long as she is 15lbs / 7 kilos under her normal weight. it makes her frame ‘elderly’ or something.

lmao @ afro toupee. hilarious! 😆

  30. Cheyenne says:

I wonder how much that thing on William’s head weighs and how hot it is under there?

  31. megan says:

I hate how they parade Camilla out at all of these events. She’s the Diana husband stealer, why are they acting like she’s royalty? Charles would have divorced Diana and married Camilla, but luckily for him Diana’s dead so there’s nobody to stop the Camilla parade every 5 minutes!

    Kate looks stunning, as always.

  32. Lucky Charm says:

I wish I could see more of Kate’s coat, but from what I can tell it looks nice. I’m surprised that she’s not wearing gloves. I guess she couldn’t show off the gorgeous ring then, lol!

  33. sleepy says:

Uh… Megan, the reason Camilla is allowed at these events is because she is Charles’ wife and thus, is a royal in law. Like it or not she has a right to be there.

Not a fan of Kate’s hat.

  34. Deven says:

Kate is a gorgeous girl. I think she’s much more attractive than her sister. She has a sense of her own body and what looks good on it. English women seem to like those “falling-off-the-head” hats. With the way they place them, I can’t figure out how they stay on. Must have combs attached to keep them in place.

  35. Mimi says:

Here is the difference between the Brits and Americans.

We have a post about Angelina Jolie – because she donated half a million for aid, we have a post about an entertainer- Tracy Morgan, because he went on a rant :

both did things. one did a negative thing and another did a positive one. Both of them are artists who created or entertained people and that is why they are famous.

Then we have a British celeb= a woman who managed to do absolutely NOTHING, but cling to fame and status chasing.
    She is wearing a hat.

Her grandmother in law is the Queen of England, whatever that title means in 2011.

Don’t they have any interesting people who actually DO SOMETHING (positive or negative) which warrants their mentioning?

  36. normades says:

Wills is too hot in that hat 🙂

  37. Mairead says:

I think they all look great, but Kate’s hat is subpar – quite boring and a little cheap looking. And I do wish Harry would stop slouching.

@megan: for what it’s worth, he DID divorce Diana. I don’t see how it’s relevant though.

  38. Andie B says:

Kate looks great, though the hat is not that wonderful. Harry is a cutie, but has quite bad posture. He would look so dashing and regal if he sat up straight. Camilla looks very nice.
@36 – I beg to differ..if you are referring to Kate, she didn’t do nothing. It would seem she quietly worked very hard over a long period of time to bag her prince. Your comment smacks of jealousy.

  39. Alix says:

Look up the pix of the ladies on the balcony of Bucks Palace — the Countess of Wessex is wearing a truly butt-ugly chapeau. And Princess Michael of Kent, oddly, seems to be wearing an inverted cereal bowl.

  40. Micki says:

@uknowuloveme: Try with constipated blue garden gnome

  41. phaksi says:

How come Harry has such horrible posture? I thought standing up straight is drilled into soldiers

  42. khaveman says:

The queen has gone very monochromatic. Mix it up Your Majesty. Love her hat in this pic but would have liked to see it with another color suit. I agree, GREAT jewelry. She always wears something so da*n amazing.

  43. lucy2 says:

Love the coat but not the hat.

So glad to live a life where an endless supply of giant crazy hats is not a requirement. Where do you store them all??? Oh right, it helps to have a palace…

  44. Louise says:

I feel like I’m the only one who doesn’t really care about William and Kate. I thought after the wedding there would be less stories but it seems like there are more. It’s weird that six months ago I barely knew who Kate was but because of the wedding she’s supposed to be somebody.

  45. Barb says:

anybody else get “barely disguised loathing” from the way kate is looking at camilla in that first pic? not trying to wish anyone ill here, but there’s a part of me that hopes camilla gets a BIG twinge of guilt every time she see’s diana’s ring sparkling on a new, young and gorgeous, princess’s hand.

  46. kasper says:

a fascinator for a very dull girl: perfect combo.

  47. jemshoes says:

I just have to applaud the English and their loyalty to hats and headwear. 🙂 All the Royals look comfortable and content, like it’s a bright new day for everyone.

  48. april says:

I think she looks stunning with that color combo. The black looks stunning with her hair and the white – well, with the white, she just can’t lose. She wears white well.

  49. Amanda G says:

They all look great! Personally, I don’t mind Camilla anymore. Obviously they love each other a lot and were meant to be together. Of course I don’t condone the cheating and lies part of it though.

  50. eternalcanadian says:

I think the hat is a nice “different” but the white skirt and jacket is very boring. Would have liked to see something youthful and with some sort of pattern. I mean Catherine is only 29, not 49! And again with that horrible eye shadow and black eyeliner not to mention those pink stripes on her cheeks.

I loathe those bearskin hats. They are made from the pelts of culled Canadian black bear (apparently thousands a year are killed unnecessarily), but just like the unneccessary killing of seals and whales and dolphins there’s no need to kill any bears for the purpose of fluffy black hats to cover William’s ever-increasing bald spot.

And yes, the Queen does look rather constipated and like a Smurf in that top to bottom blue outfit. 😛

  51. Leah says:

I personally do not like the name “Waity”, it was ok when she was not part of the monarchy. But now I find it extremely disrespectful. She’s a royalty now, not a celebrity.

@Louise… she IS somebody?? She is the Princess of England, and a member of the monarchy of the Commonwealth constituencies

  52. getagrip says:

Americans’ sense of superiority to these things is breathtaking considering the Kardashian worship and the 2 party system which is essentially made up of warmongers working for the same agenda. And don’t get me started on the lack of understanding we seem to have for dressing for occasion and station in life. The day wasn’t about Kate why would she need to put on a look at me color or something ‘sexy’.

  53. sandy says:

@45 I agree with you. As far as articles go Kaiser’s blogs aren’t sycophantic. I just checked the dailymail.uk link provided here, they should change their their name from ‘daily mai’l to ‘daily middletons’. There are more than four or five articles devoted everyday to the middleton girls(kate, pippa and mum carole). From never having heard of them before ,now i know of all three. Sometimes I think its brainwashing by the media and tabloids to make us think she is beautiful and out of this world. And i honestly feel negative opinions of
her (she who must not be called waity katie anymore) cant be written without anyone saying it smacks of jealousy.

  54. Brittany says:

Is the whole “Americans have pointless celebrities” REALLY going to be an argument here?

No one in America disputes that.

Americans don’t dislike the royal family because they’re pointless celebrities; it’s because the royal family stands for an archaic institution that perpetuates a class system.
It also signifies that citizens of the UK have to pay extreme taxes so that these people–who have little influence to the actual running of the country–can maintain relevance and grandiose lifestyles.

If you’re British and don’t see a problem with the royal family, well, that’s your right.

It’s also my right to be proud to be an American who doesn’t have to revere them or be respectful of their stupid ‘titles.’

So yeah, I will call her ‘Waity’ if I want to.

  55. Leah says:

They actually don’t cost tax payers much… I think its something like less than 50 pounds a year for each person. They get their money from the vast amt of land they own.. since they are aristocrats by blood.
    KNOW YOUR HISTORY.

Also they r symbols. All monarchist countries have a royal family, e.g. Thailand, Jordan, Japan, Malaysia, etc. They actually are of HUGE relvance, commonwealth countries still hold a strong tie together bcuz of the monarchy and its rich history. The Queen is not just the Queen of England, but is also the representative queen of every Cth nations in the world.

It’s not that much of a class thing, but rather more of a symbolic pride of the nation. the british monarch is more “public” bcuz papparazzis in england are quit nuts.

You want examples of archaic “class system”… there r PLENTY of billionaires and multimillionaires that breed such “class divide” than the royal family does.

And again… ROYALS are NOT CELEBRITIES. It’s like saying Obama is a celebrity. He’s NOT, he’s a president, leader of the country. GEES.

  56. JulieM says:

Mimi @36: Totally agree. This young woman has done nothing to warrant respect or adulation. She sat on her duff for 9 years and waited for a prince to marry her. Of course she loves married life. She doesn’t have to actually do anything even now but dress up and have her picture taken. Oh, and wear a hat!

Even though her wait is over, I will always call her Waity. She has earned it. Disrespectful? Too bad.

    Preggers yet?

  57. Mitsey Martin says:

In this day and age could the hat be made out of something that wasn’t keeping an animal alive?

  58. Bobby the K says:

The thing about the class system in Britain is that it is at least out in the open.
Some Americans are convinced there’s nothing like that here but there is.

ONE of the reasons Wall St. and the Banks get away with their corruption and fraud is because with the help of elected officials, they are able to sustain a class war between the middle and lower income populations.

It’s like cat nip to the media, we buy it and the wealthy walk off with the money, without paying taxes and without reinvesting in the country.

    Divide and conquer.

  59. hmmm says:

My 81 year old mother and I were talking about this chick yesterday. She thinks she’s a fake. From the minute she saw her she suspected Waity had her eye on the main chance. She said,” She’s no lady. She’s playing at being a lady. This has nothing to do with class distinctions. It’s internal.”

Yep, Mama, you got that right!

What disturbs me is her grin. The same grin wherever. Nary a moment of
uncertainty. And no one will convince me she’s not rehearsing for the Queen role. Who cares about her attire? What has she done for the people lately? And how about those Cambridges slogging it out in Anglesey? She’s a cipher and has less
substance than Diana, and that’s saying a lot. Feh!

Having been born and lived in England, and still residing in the Commonwealth, I’ve always been okay with the monarch because of Queen E. But Waity is the last straw, and I lok at these pix and see manufactured stars, u
per class twts, except for her maj.

    G-d save Queen Elizabeth.

  60. hmmm says:

Aaargh! Sorry, the above comment only had so many edits allowed. No I was not drunk. But clearly my iPad was!

  61. getagrip says:

@ Bobby…exactly…we absolutely have a rigid class system here in America but we are still pretending to be naive to that fact even after the banks robbing us blind have been exposed. It’s time we stop turning our nose up to the traditions of Britain and understand we too live under the rule of an elite class.

  62. angelikap says:

    meh as always!

  63. nnn says:

    @Brittany

I completely agree with you and I too am a European citizen from a monarchy.

What i found really questionable about the royal family in England, which is the richest european royal family, the queen being one of the richest woman on Earth, is some of the old rules or code, whatever you name it, that still prevails and makes the royal family richer and richer on the back of the people of the UK.

The House of England becomes richer and richer every year by expropriating LEGALLY inheritance of people dead without heir.

Every year they get richer of millions of pounds through that mean alone, when in many democracies it goes through the government that sells it and use the money through paying public services.

This is what’s left of an old rule from royalties when they owned land. The King in Belgium after Leopold II is king of the Belgians. The Queen in the UK is queen of ENGLAND. She basicly OWNS the country and many properties you own will get back to her once you die without heir.

Few people knows that. I think this archaic right of ownership on land and properties is shoking in these days of age.

  64. snappyfish says:

    Catherine looks stunning, as always
