It was only the end of March when we first heard that British actress Carey Mulligan, 26, was dating British singer Marcus Mumford, 24. Mumford is the lead singer of the Grammy nominated band Mumford and Sons and you might know them from their hit The Cave. Things seem to be going very well for these two, because if The Sun is accurate Marcus popped the question with a diamond ring while they were having a weekend away. I wonder who The Sun paid off or whose phone they listened in on to get that piece of information.
THEY’RE keeping mum about it – but actress Carey Mulligan is believed to be engaged to her folk rock fella Marcus Mumford.
The Mumford & Sons singer is thought to have popped the question at the weekend in a posh hotel.
Oscar-nominated Carey, 26, spent the intimate break at £250-a-night Babington House in Somerset showing guests her new diamond ring.
An onlooker said: “Carey looked like the cat who had got the cream. She was wearing a beautiful ring and didn’t seem to mind who saw it.
“They were stuck to each other like glue. She was doing most of the talking and he was hanging on her every word.”
The loved-up pair have only been dating for five months after meeting when he performed in Nashville, Tennessee.

So Carey must have flown straight back to the UK after her gig at ComicCon on Thursday to promote Drive. Here’s a link to photos of the place where they were allegedly staying and it looks amazing. What a romantic place that must have been to get engaged. It sounds quick to get engaged after less than six months, but maybe they’ll wait a while before they make it official. If they do get married Carey will probably keep her name for professional purposes, but she would also be cute as Carey Mumford or Carey Mulligan Mumford. There’s something so practical-sounding about that name, like a tough but caring character in a British drama.
Here’s a video of Carey and Marcus outside a Mumford and Son’s gig in Arizona in late April. They dance around at about :20 in and then hug until about :35. They look really playful and sweet together. Congratulations to the two of them! I have a lot of respect for Carey and it looks like she found a decent guy.
Clearly a speedy engagement isn’t meant for everyone, but I will say, that my parents only dated for three months before getting married!
This is such a sweet story. I hope that if it’s true they make it for the long haul. I really adore her.

My parents dated for seven months before getting engaged and they just celebrated their 37th anniversary.
Their cuteness rivals a basket of puppies and kitties. If true, ’tis very sweet. And just because they are engaged doesn’t mean they are going to get married tomorrow. It may take them a year or so.
Well – I’m very certain that my bf of almost two years and I will end up married at some point, but I would have married him at 6months into the relationship. Sometimes you just know and I wish them a lifetime of happiness.

The Sun is a definite tabloid. I won’t hold my breath this has any truth to it. Congrats if accurate though…even though he looks certainly different then the guy I would expect her to date after dating Shia.

I wouldn’t trust anything that is owned by News International, not only because of the constant lies of Faux News and the phone hacking, but they also made the once respectable Wall Street Journal write some apologetic drivel about Murdoch father and son that they later had to amend when they realized how bad they made themselves look.
That said, if Carey and Marcus really are engaged, I wish them the best. Hubs and I got married four months after we met.

BTW I loved the way British did the their inquisition or questioning of the Prime Minister when he came back from his vacay. I saw it Jon Stewart and it was amazing and passionate…the Prime Minister was passionate. It was awesome. Wish American government was more like that.

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh I LOVE Marcus Mumford!! LOVE LOVE LOVE. Mumford & Sons is to me what Adele is to Kaiser. Got the CD from iTunes, then bought it in the store, then bought the deluxe version from their website, have flown cross country to see them play – twice – and caught a local show, have not stopped listening to them for over a year now. In fact, one of the shows I saw was that Arizona show in the clip!! Part of the Railroad Revival Tour – amazing show.

Mr. Tarheel and I got engaged after 5 months. I agree with everyone else on here-sometimes you just know! It seems like Carey knows what she wants (great career, adorable-as-a-puppy husband with fantastic pipes) and what she doesn’t (Shia LaDouche is so great, I’m going to use it too).
I do think they are young, but they both seem grounded in interviews, so maybe they can make it work!

Hubby and I got engaged after 4 weeks together, and were only 24 and 25 when we were married. We’ve been crazy happy for more than 7 years. It’s foolish to think a lengthy engagement or older age will matter in a relationship. You either make it work or you don’t, it’s up to you.
@JuJuBee My husband is military so we’ve spend a lot of time apart too. When you want it to work, it’s easy even with a distance between you. The separation isn’t easy by any means, but the love and closeness can grow even more if you try. More so for them because they will be able to talk daily regardless of where they are and not have their other half in the battlefield.
According to an article in the August 4, 2011, edition of Rolling Stone Carrey Mulligan and Marcus Mumford became pen pals through church around age 11. They fell out of touch for a bit and reconnected a few months ago. The church is the UK arm of the Vineyard movement.
