Globes: The Help cast including Emma Stone, Jessica Chastain, Viola Davis

The cast of The Help were well represented at last night’s Globes but their fashion was a mixed bag. First off we have Viola Davis, who has not had one misstep this season that I’ve seen. She’s been impeccably dressed and styled every step of the way. Viola was in Pucci, and I just loved the very simple yet high fashion style of the dress, which a very high leg slit and and fabric draped over a single shoulder. Her makeup was spot on, and her bold Fred Leighton jewels complimented the look perfectly. It was really nice to see her on the red carpet last night. Viola was up for best actress, which went to Meryl Streep.

Emma Stone was in what she described as “purple and fuschia Lanvin, and there’s an eagle.” I love the almost superhero style of that belt, which adds a pop of whimsy to a seriously sexy gown. Her dress was amazing, but I can’t say the same for her styling. Yet again, Emma’s makeup is way too heavy handed and looks clownish. She’s so pretty, she just needs a new makeup artist. Her hair looked very polished in that style without being overdone.

I can’t say the same for Jessica Chastain’s hair, which was teased into this ridiculous poof that went with the dated style of her dress. Chastain was in formfitting Givenchy, which wasn’t flattering to her top half. I hate to say this, but Bedhead and I were noticing that her boobs looked a little lopsided in that dress. Her makeup is well done, but that dress didn’t do her any favors. Chastain was very sweet to Giuliana Rancic on the red carpet, and she told her she was a fan of her reality show. She seemed genuinely thrilled to be there and it was nice to see.

Octavia Spencer shone in lilac draped Tadashi Shoji with sequin detail on the bodice. I thought her dress was beautiful and I love her simple but bold teardrop earrings and giant ring. Her hair and makeup are also very well done. Spencer won best supporting actress for The Help after taking home the Critics Choice award last week. She might be a shoe-in for the Oscar.

Viola looked great,Octavia looked great, Emma looked fantastic, Jessica looked ok. I liked Jessica’s dress, not loved.

  2. Aria says:

Octavia Spencer was the best of them all.

I liked this dress on Emma so much more than the green gown she wore recently. Such a pretty gown and the color really works for her. And l give her props for trying a smoky eye, it works for me.

I thought J. Chastain’s look was unfortunate, matronly and unflattering. Too bad because she’s so pretty.

Viola and Octavia both looked great. I liked the lavender with Octavia’s skin tone, so pretty.

Agreeed with everything Jessica Chastain is a downtight shame, as young, nice and truly happy to be there as she seemed

      Agreed on all accounts.

I love that Emma is not predictable at all on the red carpet. She tries everything, and it usually works to her benefit. I still stand by things I’ve said previously about her eye makeup, which is similar here, it’s too much.

Jessica is a gorgeous girl, but something about her hair or dress ages her. She looked much younger in the movie.

Where was Bryce Dallas Howard? About to pop, I suppose (8ish months pregnant).

    Viola looked perfect….love her dress!
Octavia looked lovely (great color & styling of her gown).
I was disappointed with both Emma & Jessica’s looks.

I still have no idea who Emma Stone is but … taht dress is absolutely gorgeous! Want! (Can’t have, not rich or skinny!)

  6. ShanKat says:

They all have terrible hair, except for Viola Davis, whose hair is absolutely fabulous. Glam, but not mumsy or fussy like her costars.

Octavia is awesome, and it’s all great except for the hair. But…stand up straight, mama! You’re a winner! Posture!

  7. chloe says:

Love Octavia, great color and fit. Didn’t like the high slit on Viola’s dress.

  8. HadleyB says:

Love love Emma Stone but The Help wan’t that great of a movie…though I enjoyed the book but it was too hyped up and just ok…

  9. Shelly says:

I think Emma looked fantastic in every way. One of my faves of the night.

  10. Katie says:

Viola’s dress is by far the best out of all of these in the way that it flatters her. The cut and color are very complimentary to her figure and skin-tone (and I love that little clutch). I agree with you; Emma needs a new makeup artist, but I don’t think that dress was appropriate for the red carpet. The eagle is just too whimsical for my taste, and I think that’s what ruins the look for me. I actually really love Jessica’s dress!! If her hairstyle had been different the look would have been lovely. I agree that it really didn’t do her too many favors, but out of all the dresses here, I can imagine myself in that one the most. Octavia’s dress is a little too light in color and too “high school prom” to me…I can’t even tell you how many girls showed up to my prom in dresses with jewel accents like that. I don’t think it does anything for her at all.

Viola’s dress, just wow. She hit it out of the park in color, style.

Emma Stone can do no wrong because I love her. One of the few bright young actresses that I can’t wait to see her in more movies.

Octavia’s dress really flattered her full figure, and the color was gorgeous on her.

  12. lisa says:

Octavia was the best. The people or person that styled her did it perfectly.

I like Viola’s dress but it just seemed incomplete. I thinks she needed a bold accessory or something. The dress fits great but it looked like she forgot to put on something.

Jessica’s dress is lovely, but I don’t like the neck line or the way her hair was. Just didn’t work for me. If felt too old for her.

Emma’s makeup just plays up her eyes. I liked her dress. It just didn’t seem to suit her.

  13. ab says:

ooo I loved jessica’s dress. it certainly doesn’t photograph well, but it was beautiful on my tv screen and I’m sure it would have been even more so in person. but her hair was awful.

I also liked viola’s dress, simple but elegant and the color was so striking against her skin.

  14. Vee says:

I liked all of them, except Jessica’s hair. Emma’s dress is gorgeous, Octavia, wow and Viola was understated and the color divine.

All in all a big thumbs up for the ladies of The Help.

  15. TheOriginalVictoria says:

I loved the colour and overall style of Octavia and she deserved that win and Viola was so sexy in that dress. On of the best of the night and she and Jolie did the high split the best. CHARLIZE…I M SORRY but that fugly ass dress she wore was not it for me. Overfuckingrated.

  16. normades says:

I think Chastain really missed a big opportunity to wow. White just washed her out and the neckline was too matronly. Hair, urgh. This should have been her big night, but she did not dress to impress.

Emma is always fashion forward imo. I like that she takes risks.

I hate one shoulder gowns, but the color is fab on Viola. Make-up was perfect.

Octavia’s dress was good for her figure, but her make up was so drab. She needed more lip/eye color.

  17. MooHoo says:

Viola – absolutely stunning. perfect dress, perfect colour and great styling. rockin’

  18. Amanda G says:

I think Octavia had one of the best dresses of the night…so flattering! However, her eyebrows need work…as does Madonna’s.

  19. I love Octavias dress.

  20. Ranga says:

Oh they all look great! Only I wish Viola’s dress was a brighter colour and Octavia’s was a darker/deeper colour.

  21. Amber says:

Octavia’s look was so pretty, best in show IMO. So was her MLK quote.
