Jennifer Aniston sings on 30 Rock, but doesn’t increase ratings

Jennifer Aniston’s heavily promoted guest appearance on NBC’s 30 Rock didn’t exactly help ratings. In fact it was a season low in terms of viewers – though to be fair, it’s only the third episode of the season. 30 Rock started out with a high 8.5 million for its premiere on Halloween, then dropped to 8.1 last week when Oprah guest stared. Aniston’s appearance brought in only 7.5 million viewers.

Jennifer Aniston’s appearance on 30 Rock didn’t increase ratings. Aniston’s episode – which aired Thursday night – earned 7.5 million viewers. About 8 million people tuned in to Oprah’s Nov. 6 show.

The Emmy-award winning show broke its own viewership records after its Oct. 30 premiere, when 8.5 million watched.

Aniston – who played Alec Baldwin’s stalker – said she had a blast filming the show. Watch her serenade Baldwin in the video above.

“It was awesome, really, really fun,” she told Entertainment Tonight Canada in September.

The 39-year-old has been in New York City with beau John Mayer. The night her 30 Rock episode aired, the couple displayed PDA at La Esquina and Goldbar.

I think 30 Rock is focusing a bit too much on the guest stars and not enough on the show itself. In my opinion Tina Fey and Alec Baldwin are the best comedic actors on television right now. All the guest stars are actually detracting from how good those two are. During the first two seasons they spaced out the guests quite a bit, and I think that worked better. Packing Oprah and Aniston into consecutive shows seems a bit much.

The clip below is sort of funny, but more in that awkward way. Aniston actually sang, and you can tell it’s her real voice. Unlike Katie Holmes’ appearance on Eli Stone, she didn’t dance. Too bad – that could have brought in another 20,000 viewers.

Ew, I forgot about her singing. I think I blocked it out as it was happening. (Her body looked nice in that dress though…Herve Leger?)

But I agree about Fey & Baldwin – the writing on 30 Rock is so good, it’s a shame they throw away the funniest lines on the guest stars.

  2. Zoe says:

I have to admit it. Her body is a “Wonderland.” (too)

  3. layla says:

I find this girl so over rated.

  4. Sickitten says:

They went a little overboard on her nosejob this time. Her body looks great.

  5. ff says:

What? The clip is cute. At least she’s still funny on TV.

Maybe they should put her in one of those Sex & The City wannabe retread things. I could live with that if it was well written.

That said, I find her boring in real life.

  6. Holly says:

I think 30 Rock is awesome but they did two things wrong: premiered much too late, and the first episode didn’t have enough “pop”. The first ep should feel like going back to school after summer break, not like you just picked up where you left off as if nothing happened. Felt flat. That being said, I’ve liked all three episodes so far, they’ve been funny…but the premiere could have kept more new viewers if it’d been a bit “bigger”, you know what I mean?

Hm, suprised they actually aired this episode following the apparent suicide of Paula Abdul’s stalker, considering this is a clip of a stalker saying “If I kill myself it is all your fault!”

I don’t think it’s in poor taste, it’s just our society is SO DANG POLITCALLY CORRECT these days. So, I’m glad they aired it. Just a little suprised.

It’s going to take me all weekend to catch up on these posts!! Ahh..!!!

Saw the episode during commercials of the Jets beating the Patriots – thought it was cute… also thought she made a really cute stalker – she may have missed her calling 😛

I agree with Jaybird and Kaiser (on a JA thread no less! The apocalypse is coming 😆 ) that Fey and Baldwin MAKE that show. What the writers and directors are doing is destroying the show with silly crap like the Night Court nonsense and stuff. Let’s get back to business at 30 Rock and let Tina and Alec run the show.

Alec and Tina are comedy gold. IT’s true. Oh how I adore 30 Rock!

  10. James says:

I am sorry but I am a guy…uh…did you see her body? Can’t hate a woman with that kind of body.

  11. lene says:

    does she still smoke?

she looked best in season 5 and 6 of friends…her face was a bit chubbier (so it seemed)…but her body was thin…i liked that a lot.

  12. JaundiceMachine says:

I wish they’d make more episodes available online. Hulu only puts the five most recent episodes on their site, and while show is funny enough on it’s own, it’d be nice to see past seasons to catch some of the lingering insides jokes.

I thought the Oprah episode was one of the funniest. When Liz’s pills kicked in on the plane and she slurred “I’m snitting nesht to Borprah” I thought I was going to lose it… nice twist and they did a good job of not making it all about O, so the story had a nice arc.

Thought the JA episode was a little weak. Stunt casting usually takes me out of the story and makes me think of what the tabs are reporting about them and JA’s press has not been great recently….. She feels a little over exposed and it seeped into my enjoyment of the story. Agree her body is mayjah league though and she looked great.

  14. vdantev says:

The thrill is gone…. the thrill is gone away……

Still a big NO on that Friends reunion TV movie, JA?

  15. Cheyenne says:

How is she going to revive her Hollywood career if she can’t even carry a TV show?

  16. Lilou says:

She is not a good actrice… Whatever are her roles, she always speaks in the same way, always do the same gestures… It’s ALWAYS the same caracter: she doesn’t have any “degrees” (can we say that in english?) in her acting.

    You know what I mean?

  17. spooge says:

I couldn’t even watch it with all the hand held close-up shots cause I started getting motion sickness.
    Who the heck directed this?
Like .. stick the camera on a tripod. That’s what they’re made for.

  18. Cheyenne says:

Now I’m glad I missed it. A co-worker just told me when she sang she sounded like a garbage truck shifting and reassigning its load.

  19. realistic says:

I think she is just as plain as the characters she plays.. I means cans she do anything else? ONE TRCIK PONY!! she always plays the (girl next door, corky, funny, somewhat neurotic) EVRY TIME!!! yawn.. seriously, who cares about her body? she is skynny, the end- never found anything extraordinary in her but her paycheck from friends.

has she ever done a meaningfull role? hmmm! oh yeah that veru very deep character she played in along comes polly? right? oooh,no wait… not that one, maybe…the breakup? ……. wait nope, aw.. yeah no… cant think of it! they all seems muddled inmy head for some reason.. MAYBE CAUSE SHE SUCKS!!!!!!!!!
