Here are some new photos of Catherine Zeta-Jones and Michael Douglas last night at the Eugene O’Neill Theater Center’s 12th Annual Monte Cristo Award Gala. Michael received an award – the 12th annual Monte Cristo Award “in recognition of his achievements and contributions to the theater community, both internationally and in the U.S.” Catherine presented the award to him… which is nice. Although… does Michael do much for theater? Catherine has been on Broadway, but has Michael? Does he produce theatre shows? Oh… I just saw this – Michael got his start at the O’Neill Theater back in 1966, and he’s served on the board of trustees since 1980. Okay, that makes sense. He’s spent the last 32 years on the board of an influential theater. Carry on!
As for 42-year-old (!!!) Catherine… well… she looks okay. The Mail has a glowing piece (here) about her appearance, including the phrases “the raven-haired beauty was so radiant…” and “showed off her enviably toned physique…” Sure. She looks fit and healthy and I sincerely hope she’s doing a lot better this year. I like her dress too – it’s conservative and pretty and it says “I’m a beautiful woman and I want to look nice, but this night is about my husband.” Zeta is always great about dressing for the occasion.
Catherine has two films coming out this year, and both will probably garner more attention than her work has gotten in the past few years. First, she has a supporting part in Rock of Ages, which comes out this summer. Then, around Christmas, she’s in that romantic comedy Playing the Field, with Gerard Butler and Jessica Biel. While Zeta’s career isn’t at Meryl-level, she’s doing okay, I think. As for Michael… he’s due to film that long-gestating Liberace project soon. *crosses self*

@jayna: yes she is lovely but way too mature looking for 42, I am not even comparing her to other celebrities who are her age, but just to regular people and when you consider only her face there is not so much 42 years old women walking on the street that look so rough and so matronly.

and you are not supposed looking mature before a certain age (a.k.a past middle-age) certainly not in your forties.When a “mature” woman comes to my mind I think Susan Sarandon or Meryl strip certainly not Halle Berry.

Truth hurts apparently!! she LOOKS nothing like a 40+,I have co-workers her age who are fresh as spring flowers compared to her and they are regular moms, no daily gym, coach, and money and all the package…

She’s been through so much tho!! Taking care of Michael while he was so sick, plus kids. I think she looks like a good mom and great wife, so utterly beautiful 🙂

Her age is very easy to verify. Just google british birth registry or ancestors.co.uk. The latter pulls records from the former which is a government database for all british births. It is a legal requirement in UK to register a birth with this database which goes back to pre-1900s. Both are open to the public.
The reason people think she’s older is she looks and styles herself like someone older,she always dated and eventually married elder men.
She was a fairly famous face in the UK from the early 90s, playing the buxom young daughter on a tv show called The Darling Buds Of May, and her stated age has always been consistent as far as I remember, so if she is shaving off a couple of years, she must have been doing it since she was 20. Which, I don’t know, maybe she did.
People seem so incredulous that she’s 42 – she’s been a long-time heavy smoker, so it’s affected her skin I’m sure, and she’s spent a long time caring for her sick husband so probably skincare wasn’t at the top of her list of priorities – but honestly, she still looks pretty good to me.
I don’t know where the yardstick is that people judge age/looks against – is there an actress out there who looks EXACTLY 42 that I can judge CZJ against? 🙂

I think she looks well, okay for 42 not more. Stunning to me is Sofia Vergara (only 2 years younger) and I assume it’s quite the same for Kaiser, it’s a sharp word that is used with caution and approprietly here on CB, stunning is Charlize Théron, Diane Kruger, Monica Belluci, Rachel Weisz (who is shockingly the same age than CZJ) and if you are fair you would admit that in no way CZJ equal any of these ladies…
I also would like to desagree on how you are supposed to be looking like this in your 40s, well it’s not! She looks way too older than her age. I am far from 40 but I have a lot of older co-workers in their 40’s and one is 47, and they all look way freshier and younger than her and they don’t even have the same resources (gym, cosmetic surgeries and beauty salons, etc..) to take care of themselves, but they ALL look way younger than her and they ARE +40.And I don’t even want to start with celebrities who are her age (Rachel weisz…).
I would put CZJ in the same category as all the women you mentioned. *shrugs* Just different opinions I guess. Beauty is subjective.

There was a time when she was breathtaking but it didn’t last. She was more beautiful than some of those women you mentioned but they survived looking good. She didn’t. I totally agree with you. I’m her age and look younger – if not as thin. I think Ashley Judd in those wrinkled pics looks better.
Some people look older than their age, others look older. It doesn’t mean its wrong.
Besides there are also various factors thrown into the occasion. Care taking for someone that sick is a lot different that caring for a child. It comes down to different emotional and physical stresses.

To me she USED to be stunning, now her hair are fried from too much chemical colouring, her eyebrows are too much drawed and in a too weird color, her eyes are way smaller, her skin is awful and top that with a frozen forehead too much powdering and a cakey makeup, too much “too” for me… while when I think of Monica Bellucci who is 47, by the way I can’t even think about details because, I am well, stunned…but to each his own as the old saying says.

Her age can be verified via the British birth registry. It is a record that can not be changed, and therefore impossible for someone british [or born on british soil should they choose] to lie about their age.
The registry is open to the public.

It’s really damned if you do, damned if you don’t for women isn’t it? If you go the Nicole Kidman route, you get blasted for using botox/fillers, and if you don’t, you get criticized for looking old.

She looks nice, I’ll admit, but I never could stand her since she starred in an ad campaign for some skin-lightening cream in India made by Elizabeth Arden. Skin lighteners are a huge business in Asia, Africa, and other parts of the world, where white skin is equated with being successful, beautiful, etc. Many of them contain harmful ingredients. And please don’t say it’s the flip side of getting a suntan, because it’s not the same thing. There’s stories of women going without food to buy it and becoming ill from using too much of it. These two are so greedy — doesn’t she have enough money?

I’m really struck at Michael’s appearance. He has aged dramatically. I suppose that cancer really took a lot out of him. Poor guy, but glad he’s doing better! One of my all-time favorite actors.
I believe it is the way she comports herself is why she seems older than her stated age.
By their body language CZJ and MD look very much in love – MD looks so proud to be with his wife. Compare that to the TomKat photos where KH looks almost frightened, and TC can look maniacally happy and also a little threatening at the same time.

Maybe she ALWAYS looked much older than she really is? So in another 5 years or so, she can compete for roles against Julie Andrews or Helen Mirren.

She’s obviously had electrolysis done on her hairline a la Kim K and imo her forehead was just big enough before so now it’s slightly too big and square – like Kim K’s. KZJ had a similar wispy hairline as Kim K did and in KZJ’s case I suspect that the move to completely remove all of that wispy hair was the solution to those wiry, grey hairs that develop in that dye-resistant area.
