Katherine Heigl & Josh Kelley have adopted their second daughter

Katherine Heigl and Josh Kelley have adopted their second child! After welcoming daughter Naleigh in 2009, Josh and Katherine have now added a second daughter to their family. They aren’t releasing any more information, so we don’t have a name yet. My guess is that this baby’s name will be reasonably “traditional” not some “Maple Syrup” catastrophe.

Katherine Heigl and Josh Kelley have adopted their second daughter, a rep for the actress confirms to Us Weekly. No other details were available.

The couple, who wed in 2007, adopted daughter Naleigh from South Korea in 2009. “Josh and I started talking about [adoption] before we were even engaged,” Heigl told Scholastic Parent & Child in February. “My sister Meg is Korean, and my parents adopted her three years before I was born. I wanted my own family to resemble the one I came from, so I always knew I wanted to adopt from Korea.”

Kelley, 32, “had to learn” to embrace the idea of adoption at first, Heigl explained. “But he was so gracious and accepting.”

The One for the Money actress, 33, said she and her singer-songwriter husband were open to all methods of having children.

“We have talked about having biological children as well, but we decided to adopt first,” Heigl explained. “I just wanted to be a mom. So however we did that, it’s fine with me. I’d like to adopt again.”

Heigl hopes to raise their children with “integrity and morality,” she told the magazine. “We feel strongly about these things, especially because of the industries we’re in. We’ll have to work a little bit harder to keep Naleigh grounded and to make sure she understands how blessed she is — how blessed we all are.”

[From Us Weekly]

There are really only two things I like about Heigl: I enjoy Heigl The Mom and Heigl The Dog-Lover. Naleigh is a total cutie, and I do think becoming a mom softened Katherine in real ways and in PR ways. It’s nice to hear that she and Josh have brought another little life into their family. It makes me think that Josh and Katherine are probably stronger than I give them credit for, but in my defense… she’s always with her mother. Josh often looks like the third wheel in the impossibly tight mother-daughter bonds. Anyway, congrats to the happy family!

I really like this woman too for the dog love and advocacy and for the fact that she and her husband seem normal and like a real (non Hollywood) couple. I don’t think its weird that she’s close to her Mom tho, its probably what’s kept her grounded. I will say, I have never understood the hate for her. Especially when its over something she’s said. She seems like a strong woman who speaks her mind. Totally a good role model for her daughter. The criticism of her has always read as sexism to me.

    • Vicky says:

Ditto. I also love her. Congrats on the new baby!

    • Agnes says:

same here! women who speak their minds are too few and far in-between, especially in the public eye. and congrats to them on their new baby, that’s awesome! 🙂

    • lafairy says:

+4!I don’t understand the hate toward her too!! she is a strong willed woman who speaks her mind and doesn’t let anybodu step on her toes and even hollywodd big guns and producers, what is wrong with that?

  2. claire says:

Love her. Have never gotten why people dislike her – she’s awesome in her romcoms. Her family planning is identical to how I would go about having a child. The only thing I don’t get about her? Her horrible style and haircuts. She just styles herself in the oddest, stuffy way.

    • jules says:

And those sunglasses. For the love of *God* those *sunglasses! Ugh.

    • YuYa says:

God, her hair! She has to find a new stylist. She looks great with long hair, just let it grow Katherine! Get rid of the mom clothes and find a stylist who can dress her for crying out loud. She’s gorgeous with a slamming body, and she dresses it like she lives in the midwest and is 60. Hell, I live in the midwest and am middle-aged and dress 1000 times better than she does. I’m not even rich!

    • sunmoonstars says:

I dislike her because she reminds me of Ashley Judd. I also have a big problem with celebs who don’t adopt American children. They make millions off of Americans but can’t wait to help everyone else, all while talking trash about how horrible we all are (to be fair, idk if she has done this). She also has one of the ugliest mouths I’ve ever seen that wasn’t on a fish and her husband kind of looks like Jordan Bratman. UGH! She just really bothers me and I LOATHE rom-coms.

I’m a woman and I’ve criticized her. She deserved it, IMO.

Anyway, I’m a huge fan of adoption, so good for them and I wish their family the best.

  4. ryan says:

I see more pictures of the kid with her nanny than I do of her with her parents. Hope the nanny gets a big raise.

  5. Violet says:

Congrats to the family! I’m sure Naleigh will soon warm up to her baby sister.

Personally, I think it’s sweet that Katherine and her mom are close. I’m sure having her around was a big help while Katherine was adjusting to being a new mother.

    Congrats to the family!

congrats and i’m happy for them
i have nothing against her except her choice of movies or her outfits

    Is the 2nd daughter black?

  9. EmmaStoneWannabe says:

Love her. Think she and Josh are so cute and sweet. I bet she is a sweet, fun mom.

  10. Kim says:

Congrats to them! Kudos to people who adopt.

  11. Kristen says:

Katherine Heigl is gorgeous – why does she always dress that way?

    • ZenB!tch says:

I guess she is in mom mode. It lasts a few years. My BFF went from cute to looking like Katherine and back to cute once her kids were past the toddler stage. Some of it was for safety reasons. Kids grab on to the darndest things.

  12. ZenB!tch says:

I criticized her because she did what I consider a horribly sexist movie by her own choice and then came out and ripped it as a sexist movie – AFTER she got the pay check. That seemed crass. I’m sure the script read as sexist as the film did.

I do like her as a mom and a family person. I did not know she had a Korean sister. It is really sweet that she loves her sister so much that she wants her represented in her own family unit.

I’m really close to my mom too. A lot of us are. Ahem: BRADLEY COOPER! That seems a lot worse to me for any future spouse. I’ve found MILs and DILs to be more competitive than MILs and SILs. I prefer FILs myself. 🙂

  13. Laura says:

I love this woman’s acting and applaud her for using adoption as the route to parenthood. Her children are fortunate to have been adopted by Katherine just as she is fortunate to have been chosen to adopt them. All the best to Katherine and her family!

    • Str8Shooter says:

Yes, she was especially brilliant in One for the Paycheck…er, money.

Meryl Streep, time to give up that Oscar to its rightful owner!

    • polk8dot says:

      @ ‘I love this woman’s acting’

????? I ABHOR her acting! She is not just THE SAME in every single role in every single movie, she is THE SAME WOODEN PRESENCE. Smiling, giggling, or shaking her hair is not acting. Her role choices speak loudly to the fact that she either knows her own limitations – or that she’s simply too lazy to put any extra effort into acting classes, research, etc., and will only go for the easiest, most ‘familiar’ characters.
I have to say I always thought Jen Aniston was way over-hyped, for no good reason, and her acting was attrocious. I thought she was THE WORST actress in Rom-coms EVER, for many years. And then providence brought her Heigel.
Since then it is like these two are in a competition for who will make a worse movie, completely phone in the performance, and yet get it promoted like a biggest OSCAR contender in last decade. So far they are neck in neck – two queens of bad, awful, horrible romantic comedies.
What distinguished Heigel is that she seems to be completely aware of how bad she is and how bad her movies are, yet chooses to pontificate over them, on the virtues of this, or tragedies of that, after cashing in the check laughing all the way to the bank. I guess I hate it when someone INTENTIONALLY insults my intelligence.

  14. Swedish Chef says:

Hope this role of mother is permanent. Spare us from having to see her promoting those dreadful movies she does.

  15. lucy2 says:

I don’t like her in general, but I too like her as a mom and for the dog stuff.

    Congrats to them, that’s great.

  16. Gal says:

My standard comment: Poor Josh. However, congrats on the adoption.

  17. NYC_girl says:

My mother and I are really tight – I don’t consider her my best friend though, and I do have my girlfriends. Since I’m unemployed and she’s retired, we’ve been spending a lot of time together, which I wasn’t able to do when I was working. I’d like to try to adopt when I start working again – good luck to them. Oh – and whenever I’m in a crap mood, I just look at one of the header photos like the one with her and major puss-face, and I smile. Thanks!!

  18. TG says:

I like her as a mom but othewise I find her annoying and I have enjoyed some of her movies. What I can’t understand is why has she cut her hair in the style of an old woman. Every pic I see of her she looks like a lady in her 60’s she and her mom look the same age. And being close to your parents is a good thing except when it turns into a co-dependent thing like the pipsqueak, La Lohan, Jessica Simpson (her dad), Kim Kartrashian, and the list goes on. I am super tired right now but I can usually think of another 5 celebs who can’t make a decision with out mommy dearest or daddy dearest.

  19. Janet says:

I have no feelings about her one way or another but I think it’s nice they adopted a second child.

  20. Mimi says:

What’s your point about her wonderful or close connection with her mother?

I think this is just beautiful and telling that she was brought up in a loving and stable home, so she can now give as a mother and wife.

I have no idea what was there to soften. I loved it that she was real and didn’t play the hollywood hypocrisy game.
Hollywood made too many actresses into dolls that have no personality or opinions, being run by men and need to abide by them.
Heigl and Megan Fox were awesome for standing up with dignity.

    • polk8dot says:

@ ‘Heigl and Megan Fox were awesome for standing up with dignity.’
      And…… that’s where you lost me 😉

  21. Liberty says:

Hair. Sunglasses. Lipstick color. Necklace. Handbag. Delete them and improve her. With them, it is a fair impersonation of a 60 year old well-to-do Milanese woman.

  22. marybeth18 says:

I decided I liked her as a mom when I saw her with her daughter on “The View.”

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hi4aqQ16YiM

(at 0:20, and at 4:20 is really cute)

Yes, she brought her daughter to her taping of “The View.” And yes, she let her daughter run up on stage. But that little girl seems really close and bonded with Heigl. So she’s doing something right. And according to her, Josh Kelley is even closer to their daughter.

    Those little girls are lucky.

  23. kibbles says:

It is extremely expensive to raise a child nowadays. I think adopting a child and raising it as your own is one of the most generous acts a person can do. There are plenty of rich people who would rather waste that money on buying a gazillion homes or drugs or on spa treatments. Seriously, we see everyday on Celebitchy the most outrageous things that people can waste money on when there are so many people in the world who are unwanted or starving. I commend anyone who goes out there and makes the commitment to become a caring adoptive parent. It’s not just about the money. Heigl really seems like a good mother and someone who values her family. Her acting choices are an entirely different conversation though, lol. I think it would make more sense for someone like Heigl to create a baby business more than Jessica Alba or Goop Paltrow.

  24. Kelly says:

    Cool! Love Katherine Heigl!!

  25. lower-case deb says:

can’t believe it’s been a looong time since Wish Upon a Star. congrats to the Family!

  26. Bek says:

    Congratulations to Katherine and Josh!

  27. wiedz says:

wow, good for her..i wish i could adopt a kid..people here are not so keen of adoption..sigh..

  28. grace says:

I’m really close to my mother too, and find the criticism of their relationship odd. When you have young kids, you’ll take all the help you can get. And parents won’t be around forever either..

  29. Aria says:

Congrats to them! They seem a happy family. But her style is atrocious! She dresses like an old lady which she’s not!!!!

  30. cprincess says:

Whats wrong with being close to your mother?
Personally i think people who have screwed up/dont speak to their mothers have a lot of issues…
Im very close to my mother, she’s my best friend,we argue of course and I have good girl friends as well. My husband has a good relationship with his mother and I think its great.

  31. wunder says:

Adoption is wonderful. I plan to do this too!
