Scout Willis is ‘clearly going places’ so she can’t have a criminal record, says lawyer

We have an update on the Scout Willis arrest situation, but before I get to that, I just had to do some background. I avoided talking about some of the personal stuff regarding Scout yesterday, and it’s been haunting me a little. I had always thought that Scout was the “responsible” middle daughter, the one seeking a higher education, the one who wasn’t a famewhore. And while Scout doesn’t put herself out there like her big sister Rumer, Scout has had some brushes with the fame monster. Here are some stories you may have heard about:

One – this “experimental,” artsy-fartsy video was making the rounds last year. Scout did the voiceover and she “stars” in the thing. Assless chaps.

Two – Scout and Ashton Kutcher recorded this video back in January – is Scout trying to be a “singer”?

Three – there’s the story from March – outlets got their hands on Scout’s Twitter page, which was full of some really crazy, entitled-brat tweets. Scout explained the tweets by saying they were a school project – something about “the more controversial your personal revelations, the more popular you are.” Or something – you can read about it here.

So, basically, Scout has been the main figure in three gossip stories over the past year. Once again, she’s not Rumer, who is trying to become a celebrity in her own right. But Scout’s not just some quiet little schoolgirl either. So, when she gets arrested for underage drinking and giving a fake ID to a cop, it’s a big deal in the gossip world and I don’t feel bad about it. From the sound of it, Scout doesn’t feel bad about it either. People Magazine has a statement from Scout’s lawyer, who makes it sound like all the charges should be dropped because Scout will be super-famous one day:

Scout Willis is due back in court on July 31 after being charged with two misdemeanors Tuesday. She allegedly drank a beer and handed cops a fake ID in New York’s Union Square on Monday evening.

Her lawyer tells PEOPLE that Willis, 20, rejected the state’s offer to plead guilty to the charges as they stand now because she would have a permanent criminal record – and that would be unreasonable.

“It would be outrageous to mar a person that’s clearly going places – clearly seeking to have a career … with a criminal record,” her attorney, Stacey Richman, tells PEOPLE. “The goal is clearly a non-criminal offer.”

Describing her client, Bruce Willis and Demi Moore’s daughter, as “clearly intelligent” and “devoted to her studies,” Richman calls Monday’s arrest “ridiculous.”

“Seriously, you were underage once … who wasn’t looking to get into a bar?” she says.

According to reports, an officer saw Willis drinking an 8-ounce Pakistani beer just before 7 p.m. before she allegedly flashed an officer a New York ID card with the name “Katherine Kelly.”

Willis was released without bail on Tuesday.

[From People]

“It would be outrageous to mar a person that’s clearly going places – clearly seeking to have a career … with a criminal record.” What, is Scout going to join the FBI? Or is she going to graduate from Brown with a liberal arts degree (no disrespect, says my B.A.) and move to LA or NYC (or both) and begin a career as a singer/writer/actress/personality/video-director? And a criminal record is no big deal in that case. Especially when Scout was doing exactly what the cops said she was doing. I don’t think the underage drinking is a huge deal, but why are people acting like the “handing the cop a fake ID” thing is no biggie? It IS a biggie.

I said it on the last thread: rehab followed by modeling and acting jobs. I’ll be shocked if she finishes college.

    • cupidtyrox says:

Your comment on the last thread had me roaring with laughter. People these days are getting rewarded for bad behavior.

    • blc says:

i’m with you on the rehab but not the modeling. What would she model? It’s unfortunate but Demi and Bruce’s three daughters got smacked in the looks dept. Unless you meant hand modeling.

      • Candyland says:

Hands are too chubby. Knee modeling?

      • Amelia says:

Bahaaaaaa, knee modelling! My chuckle of the day.
But seriously, I’m hope the DA (am I right? I pick this up watching Law and Order, I’m not particularly clued up on the US judicial system ;P ) gives her hell. So she’s the entitled brat of two people who pretend to be other people for a living. If I were an employer and faced with two people, one who had a criminal record, owned up to what she did, knows what she did wrong and paid her dues vs. a coddled kidult who cried and bought her way out of a record, I’d pick the former hands down.
Man up, shut up and put up. She was dumb enough to hand over the ID and go out underage in the first place, you have to face up to the consequences.

      • bobo says:

Yeah,They produced some unfortunate looking kids!

      • RocketMerry says:

I agree that all the Willis-Moore girls are unfortunately not as pretty/stunning as they parents (though I don’t think they look ugly, just a bit odd).
I’ll say, though, that this one looks much better in video than in pictures.

      • sarahtonin says:

Unfortunate looking is an understatement. MK from dlisted was spot on when he said she looked like an Easter Island moai.

      • skuddles says:

        Jen Aniston’s chin double?

      • Pandy says:

LOLLLL. Seriously though, you are right.

  2. gee says:

EVERYONE KNOWS give them your real id! Who in their right mind would give an NYPD officer a fake?

    • Marjalane says:

Someone who’s been coddled and led to believe that she was entitled, and better than Jane Average Citizen all her life. That’s who thinks she can get away with stuff like that.

      • Veruca says:

And what’s truly sad is that she probably will get away with it.

Hollywood Justice. Or should they call it “Just-ick”?

    • Liz says:

Someone who is “clearly” intelligent and “clearly” going places. ROTFL. Some jack off from Oklahoma isn’t dumb enough to hand a cop a fake ID. WTF was she thinking??

  3. Matt says:

I really can’t get worked up about this. It is just typical college kid behaviour.

ETA she does sound like a budding famewhore however .

    • Jen34 says:

      I agree.

    • justalark says:

Agreed–typical college behavior and nothing to be outraged about. HOWEVER, one of my daughter’s good friends attends Brown with Scout (they will both be starting their senior year in the fall) and apparently she is a huge partier who acts obnoxious and superior to her very bright and talented classmates. I am not impressed by anything I’ve heard about her. Emma Watson, on the other hand, who also started at Brown at the same time (and has since dropped out), is supposedly very sweet and down-to-earth!

      • Jane1 says:

I go to brown and actually, Emma didn’t drop she transferred to a school in the Uk and she’ll be back for senior year in the fall! I didn’t have any classes with her but we lived in the same dorm building and shes sooooooo nice! so famous, yet so humble! what a cool girl.

  4. cupidtyrox says:

Throw her entitled, fugly ass in jail. She sounds like a card carrying member of the celebratti. And her school project should have been titled “How to be an a-hole”

  5. samira677 says:

This story is too overhyped. Most people have done one or the other if not both. It’s laughable that people are trying to blame Demi and Bruce as well.

  6. lucy2 says:

While I don’t think what she did was that awful (except for giving the cop the fake ID) I don’t think that’s a good reason to dismiss charges at all. Lots of people can claim to be “going places”. So what?
Also, given how public this all is…does it really matter if it’s on her record? Everyone now knows it happened.

  7. I.want.shoes says:

So… what exactly is her lawyer saying? That Scout Willis is entitled to a different justice system than the rest of the population because she is destined for greatness? That the law doesn’t apply to her because she is in school?

    • Lukie says:

That would be exactly what he is saying, yes.

    • olcranky says:

funny, I knew a lot of bright kids in undergrad who were going places and nobody would have bought their attorney saying no criminal record (no matter how minor) because they were going places. The only ones who’d have a legitimate claim that this sort of minor criminal blemish would impact their careers are those planning lives in politics. The argument this can ruin Scout Willis’ future career is even more laughable since she is a pretty public offspring of high profile celebrities so this story is out there even and would have the same impact as having a record for it.

      • Kat says:

Seriously – what utter ridiculousness. I’m pre-med and I have friends that are pre-law and some planning to go into law enforcement – know what we do? We stay out of trouble since we know we can’t “go places” we want to go, or we’ll have a much harder time of it, if we get into trouble in the first place. It’s called personal responsibility and sacrifice. Yeah…I totally doubt she knows anything about either.

  8. CTgirl says:

Following the lawyer’s thought to its logical conclusion, if someone is “clearly going places – clearly seeking to have a career” they deserve a free pass for illegal behavior. Her lawyer just sent negated the rule of law in one idiotic sentence. Fabulous.

    • CC says:

      Yea, seriously.

While I don’t think drinknig a beer is a big deal, you can legally drink them where I am at 16 or so, the Lawyer’s argument is arrogant: “she’s better than everyday Jane, so she shouldn’t be tainted by this”. The arrogane of it all is what pisses me off, not the beer crap, or even the fake ID, although I find it rather dumb to present a fake one, aren’t those for people that, uhhhh…..can’t arrest you, such as bouncers?

      • Elizabeth says:

I’m a criminal lawyer in Canada (in a galaxy far, far away!) and I’m always blown away by how US crim lawyers chat up the press like their clients are their best friends. Best friends for a price!? It sounds so fake to me, so just shut up and do your job – i.e. get the best outcome you possibly can. There’s someting to be said for discretion.

  9. Dap says:

OMG. Drinking a beer before 7 pm at 20 years. Talk about a misfit. I guess she should have look for a gun and fire on half of her school instead. I won’t ever understand American low indulgence for life pleasures and high acceptance of violence.

    • fabgrrl says:

That’s really not the problem. Honestly, most cops just give you a stern warning for drinking while *barely* underage, if you aren’t causing any problems. The issue is the fake ID thing. DO NOT give a fake ID to any law enforcement personnel.

  10. Lizzie K says:

Scout is acting like a kid, because she is a kid. She keeps it up a few more years, I’ll feel differently.

Her lawyer, however, is doing her no favors and needs to be fired.

  11. Innocent says:

I knew her lawyer was going to be Stacey Richman. Clearly she is going places when has the same laywer as Lil Wayne etc. 😛

  12. Candyland says:

We couldn’t say it yesterday. So lemme be first and say it today. This chick makes Rumor look pretty.

And if you think no biggie about fake id, go ahead and give them a fake next time your pulled over. Try it and see if they buy your lawyers excuse that your going places and cant be charged.

  13. Agnes says:

then she shouldn’t engage in underage drinking and using fake IDs.

  14. Jackie says:

omg. those videos. hipster doofus extraordinaire. they are ripe for an SNL parody.

  15. Carolyn says:

These 3 girls are rivalling the Geldof girls for wastes of space and blatant “what the hell are they famous for?”. Proof that some celebrity parents have their heads so up their assess that they don’t bother raising their children properly. I’m sorry…I have to say it…that main photo is horrid.

    • Hakura says:

Some” celebrities? I was under the impression it was most of them. (Or whatever child care professionals they tend to leave them with when they go on a bender).

  16. Jayna says:

Good God, she’s 20 and in college. Who isn’t drinking and hitting a bar then with friends? A nonstory.

    • Alita says:

Agreed – but whether it’s a Willis or another, should someone really really get a criminal conviction (which has real consequences) for this? Okay, bad move with the fake ID, but the fundamental laws that led there? That’s just wrong (or so says my opinion).

  17. mln76 says:

Everyone I know had a fake ID or had a special method to chalk (dating myself i know) their ID back in the day . Still none of us would be stupid enough to hand a cop an ID. That’s just dumb.

  18. Adrien says:

If she were a guy, she’d be goodlooking. She has Tim Tebow’s features. The Willis kids got busted on their face shapes but their features are quite beautiful.
The video above: Scout looks gorgeous, Ashton looks different, at least 0:40 onwards.

  19. ViloDeMenus says:

Didn’t Dad just spend a bizillion dollars on her European Debut to society? I would have imagined Bruce and Demi’s girls to be better looking and much better behaved, Demi prided herself about what a great parent she was. Nope, not so much as it is turning out, not so much probably ever. Damn Nannies.

    • jc126 says:

Poor kids. I have never found BW attractive, but some did/do, and it just goes to show that two attractive people do NOT automatically make good looking kids.

I don’t think underage drinking is a big deal for a college kid, unless they’re drinking and driving. Sorry.

Oh, and I would’ve thought Demi M. was a decent mother until the whip-it story, now I think she’s a lowlife.

      • Hakura says:

@JC126 – At least BW has masculine features that fit the rest of his appearance.gender. The girl’s ended up with his masculine jaw/chin, which causes their faces to look…wonky.

Interesting how a male with more feminine features has no trouble (is sometimes even praised for it, think Leo), where-as a female with masculine features gets hell for it (& usually labeled *very* unattractive &/or being a lesbian/butch).

    • Beatriz says:

      “Damn nannies” lol XD

  20. fabgrrl says:

Here is what bothers me, this young woman can’t have a criminal record, for a rather minor offense, because she is “going places”? But all those regular college kids who do stupid, harmless sh!t like this, but can’t afford a top notch lawyer DO deserve a criminal record? If you ask me, it’s the average kid who DOESN’T have rich, famous parents to open doors for him/her who will be damaged by a criminal record. What does Scout Willis have to worry about? She doesn’t need to apply for jobs, mortgages, adoption, the military. Maybe it would hurt her chances getting into graduate school, but I still think she’d have an easier time with that then most.

  21. valleymiss says:

Am I the only one who thinks it’s funny that every story about this mentions “Pakastani beer”? Lol

  22. Blue says:

Give me a freaking break. She’s the daughter of 2 famous people she could have a rap sheet a mile long and still get hired because of who she is. Those charges are not even that serious. If she didn’t want to get in trouble she shouldn’t have done the crime.

    • Hakura says:

Agree 100%, nothing *she* may want to do in the future will be denied to her because of this *or anything else she comes up with, who knows, she’s got the rest of the year to cause new ‘controversy’ no one cares about.

  23. Zorbitor says:

Never lie to the police, they’re here to help you!

    • Lizzie K says:

Ranks right up there with Santa Claus, the Easter Bunny and the Tooth Fairy as lies they tell you as a kid.

      • Original Lucy says:

@ Lizzie…well, as the proud mother of a police officer, let me ask you this, if you ever find yourself being robbed, raped, kidnapped, etc. who will you call to help you, the Easter bunny? My son puts his life on the line to protect people like you…have a little respect please!

  24. sarahtonin says:

Silly girl. If only she did it in L.A. then she’d get away with it, just like every other entitled Hollywood brat does.

I hope the judge gives her the maximum penalty, because she’s entitled to it in the real world.

  25. Lindsey says:

    Scout needs a new lawyer.

  26. Jen34 says:

I can’t judge her. She is only 20 years old. She has too much money and famous parents, including one who is very messed up.

I won’t mock her lawyer’s statement either. Every student at Brown is ‘going places’. I give her points for pursuing an education.

  27. blah says:

LOL going where? To Easter Island to be one of the stone heads?

Man Rumer actually looks pretty next to her.

  28. Lindy says:

Uh, sure. This reminds me of my whiny, entitled, spoiled-rotten undergrads who, when they get a lousy grade from me on a paper (a paper they have usually plagiarized, at least in part, and which is filled with errors, inaccuracies, and total nonsense), complain, “But I’m going to med school, Professor! You *can’t* give me a D!”

  29. Choupette says:

“It would be outrageous to mar a person that’s clearly going places…”

Let us pray that one of those places involves a colorist and a stylist. Mon Dieu!

  30. bored says:

Man, those are some bad videos. She looks like she’s gonig to follow the Rumer path… another unnattractive untalented girl trading no her families connections in Hollywood.Sad.

  31. Gene Parmesan says:

The only thing that pisses me off about this story is that once again a rich kid is at an ivy league school just cos of who they are and the endowments their family can eventually bestow on the school…lame!

    • Daisydoodle says:

Agreed, my son and his friends were scoring 800 per section on the SATs and fought to get into any Ivys and this famewhore gets in, go figure?

  32. daz says:

as nixon found out, it’s the cover-up that will really get you in trouble, not the original crime. i did a similar thing last year and the police was more pissed that i had lied to him than my original infraction. hopefully she does what i did and explain your really really sorry and just a warning will mean you never do it again.

  33. anneesezz says:

Okay, can we now agree that Demi Moore had A LOT of work done before becoming famous? Rumer and Scout are not even a little bit cute. Stay in school.

  34. Patricia says:

I remember when this chick was born I was considering naming my new puppy Scout. Well needless to say that name had to be scratched right off the list – lest someone think I was copying Demi. Everytime I’d hear about Scout Willis I’d think “that’s my name! 🙁 “. Now as it turns out Scout is a complete idiot and my puppy turned out completely wonderful. That’s justice for you.

I don’t know why anyone would care about this but I just feel compelled to say … THANKS A LOT DEMI FOR STEALING – and clearly wasting – MY PUPPY’S NAME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    • judyjudy says:

I’m sorry Demi stole your pup’s name. Stupid B****

Your puppy would NEVER have embarrassed himself/herself by wearing assless chaps.

      Cute name totally wasted. Sad.

      • Patricia says:

Yeah – he could have done better with the voice over too!

      • Candyland says:

Puppy “Not-Scout” would of looked better in them.

      • gg says:

The name Scout is from the novel “To Kill a Mockingbird”.

Chaps are always assless, that’s why they’re chaps and not pants.

  35. Sara says:

Getting caught with a fake id is usually a felony. They may not charge you with it, but it can result in one. She is getting off easy with a misdemeanor.

    • Candyland says:

But she doesn’t deseeeeeeeerrrve iiiit! (insert her eyeroll and bitchyvoice.)

  36. Mark says:

She clearly insn’t the pretty daughter. Scout isn’t that great of a looker either but Rumer? Eeek!

  37. Meanchick says:

Sorry, I don’t buy the “It’s not a big deal, college kids do it all the time” crap. Still doesn’t make it okay. There’s a reason why we have a drinking age, kiddies can’t handle it (hence drinking in PUBLIC) and usually someone gets hurt (giving a FAKE ID). What if she’d stuck with the fake ID and got this Katy Kelly into a mess that would’ve taken her years, if ever, to get out of? If Scout is so righteous about drinking, then use her own GD ID! If I were KK, I’d file charges against her for impersonating me. How many other times has she done it? I’ve had my identity stolen before and it was HELL getting it straightened out.

  38. Meanchick says:

Clearly her lawyer is an idiot. Clearly.

  39. remote control says:

Can we just go one day without bashing these girls looks? Seriously, hasn’t everything been said already?

    • Carolyn says:

It’s fascinating in a culture which worships beauty at all costs that two good-looking people (come on…Bruce has his charm) can produce such homely children. Combine that with the self-entitled arrogance and it’s unfair that such a person should have advantages just because of who her parents are. Especially when they don’t deserve it..and there are far more deserving unfamous people. So yes we’re going to snark at these girls because of their looks because we can. And forums such as CB let us.

  40. Ginger says:

I work in the legal field and it always amazes me that people will say such stupid things when they are caught breaking the law. This goes for ANYone not just famous spawn. Scout should just own up to it IMO.

  41. Sasha says:

Demi and Bruce should be happy with a daughter that just gets busted for having a fake ID. They could have Chet Hanks…

    • Original Lucy says:

ITA…its called consequences…and we are all teaching our children that if they do something wrong, we dont really deserve to pay the consequences. Underage drinking may not be a big deal to some, but it is breaking the law. If she gets away without even a small reprimand, she will think, she is above the law, and the next time she does something, like, stealing a necklace (a la lohan) it will be “Its no big deal”. There are a reason for laws. They teach boundaries.

  42. Newtsgal says:

OK….can I now make fun of her?
    LOL!

  43. Sarah says:

Bruce Willis and Demi Moore made some ugly kids… heads like rugby balls.

  44. the original bellaluna says:

EVERYONE “is clearly going places.” The only question is WHERE. Up or down, bad or good, we’re ALL “going places.”

What an idiotic statement to make!

  45. Chris says:

The “kid” is from a home twice broken. The second time it happened was only a few months ago, so it’s not surprising that she’s going off the rails at the moment. Demi and Ashton’s split has probably brought up a lot of sh-t for her.

  46. Kayla says:

That is a very unattractive woman.

  47. bubbles says:

    here is my two cents:
    1) The cop should have bought her another beer and given her a motorcade home after realizing the ID was fake but the face was real
2)isn’t her lawyer being redundant? clearly she is going places a/k/a bars
and last but not least being an ex-bartender it sucks when you get fined because some dumbass cant drink their stupid beer at home.

  48. junegorilla says:

I still don’t quite understand how two attractive people produced such odd looking kids. Thankfully looks aren’t everything in life once you step out of the entertainment industry. But giving the kids opportunities to “model”, “sing” and be one of People Magazines “Most Beautiful” wouldn’t seem to be preparing them for success in a career that doesn’t depend on their beauty. (What do you suppose Bruce and Demi offered People to get RUmer in that beautiful issue?)

    • MsJAPrufrock says:

It’s not a big surprise because the girls got their facial structures from their dad, Bruce, who is attractive overall, but his features are not delicate or symmetrical and for a girl go look like him is most unfortunate.

Have you seen pictures of the late Klaus Kinski? The man is demented looking but his features, which his children share, are exquisite. His daughter Nastassja Kinski and son Nikolai Kinski are beautiful.

  49. Alexa says:

Going places? A plastic surgeon office for starters would be good.

  50. Hakura says:

The first words out of my mouth upon reading this story was ‘Are you fucking kidding me?’

Agree with everyone that any future ‘career’ aspirations she has will not be harmed by this record.

In fact, it’s likely this offense will get lonely there on that big piece of paper all by itself, & invite some of it’s pot-smoking friends over for a party.

Her lawyer really *is* an idiot.
