Katy Perry in red Dolce & Gabbana at the ‘Part of Me’ premiere: lovely or gaudy?

Katy Perry

Katy Perry walked the red carpet last night for the Los Angeles premiere of Part of Me movie at Grauman’s Chinese theater. She wore a red, strapless Dolce & Gabbana dress and matching D&G pumps. I think she was aiming for glamour, and while she didn’t quite meet her goal, Katy has certainly done much worse on the red carpet. The full skirt was quite flouncy and threatened at one point to fly up and show some of Katy’s business down south. That part was probably planned.

Katy matched her lipstick to the color of her dress. Between the lips and the lashes, the effect is one of crazy clown makeup. At least she didn’t dye her hair the same color too.

Katy Perry

Before the movie, Katy performed live onstage outside the theater. She wore one of her usual “quirky” outfits with film reels on her boobs and a concession-stand theme for the hot pant part of the ensemble. I find it quite appropriate that Katy had a “PayDay” bar printed on her right butt cheek.

Later on, Katy changed into one of her newfound “gothy” ensembles to sign some autographs for fans. We don’t have a full view of the outfit, but the bottom half was probably as dreadful as the upper view.

I’m just kind of worn out that every outfit she wears is a da,da,da COSTUME!

    • bagladey says:

      Totally agree with that.

      • corny says:

agree, all she needs is the clown shoes and a horn, okay maybe a tricycle too.

      • mary simon says:

Second what corny said. Her face looks like a scary clown doll whose eyes suddenly flip open to reveal a maniacal stare. She’s a walking cartoon.

    • LahdidahBaby says:

So true. She looks like a f–king pin cushion in this red monstrosity. Or a club chair.

  2. fancyamazon says:

I like the dress, but that face! Is there an actual person under all that makeup? It looks like funeral makeup with no exaggeration on my part.

  3. Julia says:

She looks like bad cartoon character. Isn’t she too old for that?

  4. Samigirl says:

The dress is GAWGEOUS but I would prefer it on someone who annoys me less.

  5. ladybert62 says:

Her purple hair clashes with the red dress! Also, she needs to work on her eyebrow penciling – it is uneven and looks weird!

  6. Eleonor says:

I love the dress. It’s old fashion glamour.
Dita Von Teese would wear it better.

    • PG says:

She looks like she is channeling Dita here.

    • Joy says:

I was just thinking she WANTS to be Dita but misses by a shade or two.

    • Elizabeth says:

That’s exactly what I thought when I saw the pictures – (1) she’s channeling Dita Von Teese and (2) Dita does it better. Even though Dita is always in costume, she never looks it. Dita’s presentation can turn a trip to the corner store into performance art!

    • Ani says:

Funny you say that, she did some (presumably) ad-hoc modelling shots for an Australian brand, Wheels & Dollbaby that Dita also loves. I think some times the cutesy vintagey look that she favours does cross over the with the super elegant vintagey look of Dita.

  7. Christian says:

Does she ever not have 60 lbs. of makeup on?

    • Magz says:

If she doesn’t you wouldn’t even recognize her!

      • mary simon says:

Remember that picture Russell Brand tweeted of her make-up free face? She looked like Olive Oyl. BTW – he was a shit for doing that, and I think that was the beginning of the end for them.

  8. Ainsley says:

I like the red dress color, but not on her. It clashes with the stupid purple hair. The hip area of the dress is so wide. I think she was aiming for Dita Von Teese and failed because she’s too tacky to pull it off. The other outfits and her makeup are just as obnoxious and hideous as I’d expect.

I can’t wait for her little movie to come out and flop so I won’t hear anything more about it, except for this site’s snarky review!

  9. Jayna says:

Stunning dress on her, but just dark hair styled differently, no purple hair, would have set the dress off perfectly

    • Carolyn says:

Agree. Why oh why does she now have purple hair? Doesn’t she remember how nice she looked with dark hair and the occasional time she had normal make up on? To those referencing Dita von Teese…you all know that she herself is in character, right? And her real name is Heather? Marilyn Manson thought of the Dita von Teese name. It’s just that she’s chosen a certain character to play, which is portrayed as stylish and classy.

  10. Sarah says:

Traffic down Hollywood and Highland was the WORST yesterday all because this bitch had to perform on a stage that CLOSED THE ENTIRE BLOCK. Seriously, eff her.

  11. Katalina says:

The dress is gorgeous, but it looks like velvet, and that’s more of a winter fabric. It’s just too heavy looking for a sunny summer day. And the makeup sucks and ENOUGH with the blue, purple and whatever-the-eff hair colors.

  12. marie says:

and I used to like Pay-Days and Reese’s cups.. damn you Katy for farting on my favorite candies, will never look at them the same..

    • Chicagogurl17 says:

Sour Patch right across her beave and Reese’s across the glory hole. Not what they had in mind. So unfortunate.

  13. heatheradair says:

    Cans on her cans. Nice.

    • DreamyK says:

      Kitschy* Katie

*Kitsch is a form of art that is considered an inferior, tasteless copy of an extant style of art or a worthless imitation of art of recognized value.

Yep, that about sums her up.

  14. marigold says:

Must her boobs always be props?

And yes, to the person who asked, she IS too old for this crap.

    • DuBarry says:

Why do people feel the need to bring AGE into EVERYTHING?

      • valleymiss says:

Because in this case, Katy does. She’s freely admitted to pandering to kids. In her Rolling Stone interview she said some crap about wanting to show little girls that their lives can be like a candy-coated lollipop dream or something. And the picture from a few days ago with Katy posing with the little girl with the cupcakes on her boobs was beyond inappropriate.

As soon as Katy stops targeting the under 14 (hell, the under 10!) set, we’ll stop talking about age.

  15. Lindy says:

The makeup is gawd-awful, isn’t it? As for the other stuff–the clothing and costumes… Well, I mean, that’s just kind of how she rolls. It doesn’t shock me that much.

  16. mwa says:

Too much makeup it will age her horribly.

  17. menlisa says:

No matter what she wears it will always be gaudy because of her attitude.
The cake of make-up makes her look a decade older!

  18. valleymiss says:

The dress is just ok. My favorite part of the whole look is her hair. Love the purple and the bouncy waves. I’m embarrassed to add, I’m going to see a midnight showing of this on July 4th. My friend’s daughter loves KP and he offered to buy my ticket. As long as it’s not MY $ going towards the ticket…

  19. skipper says:

And sour patch is on her crotch. Isn’t that a purple carpet? To match her hair?

    • Veruca says:

I noticed that, too. Her schtick started out cute, but now it’s pathetic and tacky.

Or maybe it always was and I just didn’t notice.

The dress is pretty, but she’ll never be Dita.

    • Bonfire Beach says:

I totally saw that! Her crotch is a sour patch! HAHAHA!

She *thinks* she’s a budget Dita. She can only Teenage Dream.

  20. bagladey says:

    Love the dress.

  21. Jayna says:

I have decided this movie will do good from watching clips.

  22. serena says:

I love the red dress and shoes! It looks wonderful on her.
The problem is… her face. Eyebrows too thick and violet (?), too long lashes and the caky make-up.

  23. Skins says:

Is her fan base old enough to be allowed to go to the movies?

  24. sup says:

the red dress is ok, the film strip costume makes her a caricature of herself. and she already looks like a caricature. that said, i am crazy about the dark red shoes she wore with the red dress… -swoon-

  25. Opie says:

Wasn’t she pregnant last November? Where’s the baby? Did she take care of it? Why aren’t we talking about that?

  26. KKJ says:

What a mess she is. I think Brand must be a pedo if he liked banging a chick who dresses like a toddler. I bet that was probably their thing in the bedroom. He looks like the type that gets off on girls sucking their thumbs and wearing diapers. That’s probably why they split up.

  27. lower-case deb says:

that last picture, with the nude lipstick.
like a tiny-little oasis of comfort after the harshcostumeyness i have to sludge through scrolling down.

  28. Hanna says:

    Cakeface

  29. Me says:

As per usual her hair and makeup are atrocious. The dress is nothing short of amazing though!

  30. skuddles says:

Love the red velvet dress! It even works well with her purple hair.

  31. Chordy says:

This chick wants to be Marilyn Manson’s next ex-fiance in the worst way.

Also, her stage shows need a dancing pedo bear and they’ll be complete.

  32. Crystal says:

I think she has a stunning face and an amazing body but her style is so tragic it hurts. I think the colour of the dress suits her but the style is not a good look.

The purple hair is starting to grow on me.

    • deehunny says:

Stunning face? She does have a beautiful body and is definitely not ugly but let’s not say things we can’t take back…

  33. Rhiley says:

She is such an original, and this documentary will show how original she is. There really is only one Katy Perry and no one has ever done what she has done before now. Entertainment has never seen the likes of Katy Perry before and it is refreshing to have someone who is quirky and a little crazy also be so down-to-earth (*eye roll* 😉 Cindy Lauper circa Girls Just Want to Have Fun was way more quirky and fun than Katy Perry will ever hope to be. But man, she thinks she is something.

    • Jordan says:

I hope this movie bombs big time, otherwise we’ll have every “star” making a 3D movie of their life because each of them is so “special”.

    • NeNe says:

Thank gawd there is only one of her. I personally feel she has ZERO TALENT. Take away the T&A, and you got nothing! I cannot wait for her 15 minutes to be up.

  34. Jen says:

I find it impossible to give a hoot about her in any way, shape or form. If she went away tomorrow I wouldn’t miss her.

  35. Nicole says:

She does all of this to distract from that horrible voice…sad

  36. Shannon says:

Please someone help me understand this candy fetish she seems to have? Is this supposed to be original? Fun? I understand the frosting, sugar, candycanes, whatever is supposed to be a sexual thing, but enough is enough, this is just weird and really, really stupid. She’s like a walking LSD trip…

  37. Katie says:

The dress is incredible, but she ruins it with the purple hair and dump truck load of make up. I like Katy but I wish she would evolve beyond the delayed adolescence.

  38. Amy says:

I think the dress would’ve been fine in the fall or winter. Who wears velvet in the summer!?

  39. kitty bye says:

    PRETTY!

  40. Random Devotchka says:

I think she looks beautiful in that red dress! I always love her quirky outfits! Does anyone else remember her sushi nails? So CUTE! It is so neat how she always has fun with fashion!

  41. angel says:

    Poor man’s Dita Von Teese?

  42. Jill says:

Her face is best viewed from afar. Faaaar!
i am not feeling this combination of hyper violet hair and a red dress???

  43. Jill says:

LOL @ her crotch being a sour patch.

  44. Alexa says:

I love the dress and her hair. I love those candy pants too. And I love her excessive cartooney makeup, hairstyles, clothing, the whole get-up! It’s fun. And it’s obvious that she’s super pretty underneath all the costume stuff.

    • Kristen says:

I like Katy Perry. Not normally my kind of music but my 9 year old daughter likes her, and she’s grown on me. I’m more of a classic rock girl, I like Alanis, the closest thing to this kind of music I normally like is Pink.

In any case, Katy is FUN. I like that she does her own thing, is quirky, and is always upbeat and good to her fans. People love to be critical of eeeeeeverything. She looks better on a bad day than I do on a good day, so more power to ‘er.
