Beyonce records her letter to Michelle Obama for a campaign fundraising video

Back in April, Beyonce wrote an “open letter” to First Lady Michelle Obama, and Bey posted a copy to her Tumblr. It was news! Beyonce’s letter was actually rather sweet – it was kiss-assy, of course, but I believed that Beyonce truly admires and respects Michelle, and (in my mind) Michelle is an extraordinary role model for all young women, and I think she deserves whatever praise people want to give her. Just thinking back four years… in the heat of 2008 election, I would never have predicted that Michelle would become “the most popular Obama” in the White House. But here we are… and now that Pres. Obama is running for a second term, his campaign is hoping that his wife’s high approval numbers rub off on him. Thus, Pres. Obama’s campaign got Beyonce to record a video reading her letter to the First Lady:

Beyonce says in part, “I wrote a letter to the First Lady because I wanted her to know that I’m very grateful for everything she’s done for our country and also women around the world. Michelle is the ultimate example of a truly strong African American woman. She is a caring mother, she’s a loving wife, while at the same time, she is the First Lady!!!! No matter the pressure, and the stress of being under the microscope — she’s humble, loving, and sincere. She builds and nurtures her family, while also looking out for so many millions in so many ways. Michelle, thank you so much for every single thing that u do for us — I am proud to have my daughter grow up in a world where she has people like you, to look up to. Love, Beyonce.”

Basically, Pres., Obama is totally fine if you only vote for him to keep Michelle in the White House. That’s cool with him.

PS… Did you ever see FLOTUS on Jimmy Fallon? I still love this video:

Celebs and politicians? Not the best mix. Ask Marilyn Monroe Beyawnce.

  2. Ainsley says:

Why should a singer’s opinion on a first lady have anything to do with how people vote? Vote based on policy because that’s what matters.

  3. Bite me aka aniston says:

I wonder if ms. Camel voter registration card is current

  4. Genevieve says:

Ummm….nice thought, Bey. But I agree with Meg.

Besides, I am that most reviled of all creatures in Hollywood…a Republican!! . If anyone thinks we can take four more years of Obama’s failed policies, inexperience as a statesman and the further devastation of our domestic economy…raise your had.

OK, off my soapbox. Mummy always said never to mix politics and polite company 😉

i wish celebs were kept where they belong…hollyweird land. they have no business anywhere near the whitehouse. Being from DC, it always would disgust me when you would hear about Jennifer Lopez, Beyonce, Sean Penn, or Scarlet johansen being in town for some gala with the President. I’d much prefer a gala be attended by military families, non profit organization members, wounded vets etc. people who contribute something to the country other their shaking their butts on TV.

Sorry for the attacks you’ll get later in the postings for being a Republican lol This is the first election season I’m going into without having cable and I can’t say I’m missing the attack ads or pundits on the news every night.

      • Chatcat says:

Here here Marcy. The only thing I can figure is that people are lazy. They’d rather “listen” to some person who does make believe for a living then investigate the character and positions of a candidate themselves. It is quite pathetic really.

I want to hear it from the horse’s mouth not a horse’s ass. And Obama is certainly more the Hobknobber or Partier in Chief then he is Commander in Chief. I’d like to know the number of celebs he and Michele have hosted over the last 41 months vs. the number of veterans and other really worthy citizens. I know the answer, but since numbers don’t lie, I’d like to see it in black and white and have the Obama’s explain them.

I don’t live in the US, but from an outsiders perspective, the Republicans have to take an equal share of the failure of the US over the past four years. It’s so sad that the politicians in your country put their parties above the American people. The Republicans spent there efforts trying to ensure Obama failed and instead of getting the US on track. This is why the US is lagging, not Obama.

      • garvels says:

I think George Bush and the Republicans and Democrats who went along with all of the spending, deserve credit as well, for the years 2000-2008.

I also think Obama’s policies have created major instability and uncertainty for US businesses..hence the flat growth and jobless recovery. If the US does not offer a favorable business climate, companies will invest their resources in other countries..it is as simple as that.

Obama’s deficit growth of 5 trillion in 3.5 yrs certainly has not helped matters..Bush spent that amount in 8 years. We now have Obamacare that was originally scored at 900 billion by CBO and now CBO has increased it to 2.6 trillion…how exactly are we going to pay for this?? Doctors are leaving their practices or they are not accepting medicare or medicaid because they are not receiving sufficient reimbursement from the government and the paperwork is a nightmare.

The House has proposed numerous budgets but the Senate lead by Harry Reid has killed them without even allowing the Senate to discuss the budgets or vote on the budgets. You do realize that Obama and the Democrats have not passed a budget since April 2009…How can a business function without a budget for over 3 years? The Senate lead by Harry Reid and the Democrats are the obstructionists on this point. Obama even rejected his own committees-Bowles/Simpson budget deficit reduction plan!

Nikki, u dont live in the US therefore you shouldnt have an outsiders perspective. Please do not leave misspelled, inaccurate comments about our government system on this website because you sound ignorant. Thanks!

      • Emily says:

@natalina, people can’t have and express an opinion about something if they don’t live in the country? Wow. I hope you only comment on stories about American celebrities.

    • TheOriginalMaxi says:

I voted for Obama, but I’m not voting for him this time. He has gotten SO smug, so arrogant, and he keeps hanging out with all these celebrities. I can’t stand him.

I do like Michelle Obama though.

Oh snap, a post about politics – someone break out the cracktinis, i’ll get the popcorn.

Here come the “I hate Beyonce posts” in 5…4….3…2….

  7. Mel says:

What exactly has Michelle Obama accomplished as First Lady??? Obama is the most ineffective President since Carter. Completely inexperienced and has zero clue how to get in touch with voters, grow the economy or what managed health care truly means. On that note – I think the Republican party is completely out of touch with voters as well.

    • lena80 says:

She was behind the Let’s Move campaign, but some people were “offended” the First Lady was encouraging the youth to eat healthy and exercise.

  8. Tanya says:

I never have completely understood why people, who have literally MILLIONS of dollars, uphold politicians who destroy the economy for ‘average’ wage earners who sort of just get by. I get that they have liberal attitudes about gay marriage etc, that’s all well and good and personal to each individual, but financially, they are beyond wealthy…it just has never made much sense to me is all.

    • lulu says:

Didn’t you hear Obama’s speech where he said the private sector is doing ‘just fine’? ACK!

And his wife – don’t get me started.

      • A says:

No please do get started….I want to read why you’re not so fond of the first lady?
See, I don’t understand why people dislike her. All she ever does is try to help.
It’s one thing to dislike the president but the first lady? What has Michelle really done that causes people to hate her? Oh, I get it now, it’s the fact that she wants our children to be healthy and exercise, how horrible of her to want to help our youth! And she is forcing this on us!
Oh wait, she’s not, she’s just giving us options and trying to inspire us to do something about the terrible obesity rates.

  9. Aubra says:

I wonder how many people it took to actually write that letter…

  10. heidi says:

Independent voice here…dream on Beyonce. Spinning fairy tales doesn’t make it so.

  11. The Original Denise says:

Hmm….do I give a fug? No. Back to my job search.

    • Cherry says:

Yep. We’ll leave it to the powerful, rich and privileged people to stick feathers up each other’s butts.

  12. Jenna says:

I think if it were from someone else, I MAY have thought: “Aww, that’s sweet”. But from her? Nope.

  13. RHONYC says:

her wonky, limp wrists. ughhhh. 🙁

  14. TheOneAndOnly says:

This is embarassing for the Obamas; how much construction paper and crayons were used in this endeavor, and are Bouncy and camel even registered voters?

  15. Kim says:

    BARF!!!!

  16. BLOGAHOLIC says:

Weaveyonce pls go and raise your pillow and leave politics to the politicians.

  17. natalina says:

Beyonce should stick to singing. And I believe Beyonce only likes Obama b/c of his race. Because normally wealthy people dont like to see their money go to the intolerable americans…
however, beyonce is prob in a celeb/artist type union which explains why again she would support him.

  18. Fofototto says:

Somewhat off topic..but it really irks me when celebrities get involved in politics…I get that they have the right to, but still it does bother me. What particularly irks me when they get involved in environmental policy. It is an issue, but they are some of the biggest hypocrites. Clooney and DiCaprio take the cake with their faux eco-friendly agenda all the while they are cooling/heating their multiple vacation homes, filling their boats with fuel, flying around on private jets. Easily they do 10X more damage to the environment compared to Joe Schmo. In regards to Beyonce’s letter only she could rendre hommage to someone and make it all about her at the same time. It’s art.

  19. Mrs. Ari Gold says:

Michelle Rocks! No wonder Obama is where is! If I had Michelle telling me I could do something I’d believe it!I find her to be incredibly inspiring in interviews. I think she is one of these people that instantly makes others feel confident and relaxed because they themselves are so comfortable in their own skin.

I believe Beyonce did this because Michelle is a real inspiration for her and for a lot of us. I worry sometimes that Obama has too many celebrities endorsing him though. It can backfire.

  20. Nikkers says:

Wow. A lot of dislike for the President but do any of you seriously believe that things would be better in America right now if McCain was in charge?!!
