Colin Farrell covers Men’s Health UK, says his son James “saved my life”

Colin Farrell keeps showing up at photo calls for Total Recall, and I keep feeling a general ambivalence towards him. Maybe that’s the sign of Colin’s successful image makeover – for a while he was too overexposed, too in-our-faces, the drunk poet who would nail us without remembering our names. Then Colin got sober and he went “dark” for a while – very few photo-ops, radio silence, etc. This current phase is weird though – he’s a bit more accessible, he gets pap’d sometimes, he’s still sober, his hair is short and he’s still well-built… but nothing’s really happening. He’s just kind of… eh. I mean, I’m happy that he’s a better person overall. But he’s just not doing anything for my lady parts.

Anyway, Colin covers the new issue of Men’s Health UK. Colin talks about his two sons, James and Henry, and how they inspire him to be healthy.

He has been to rehab for addiction to drugs and in the early years of his career was well known for being a hell-raiser. But Colin Farrell has revealed that his wild days are over and he now enjoys a healthy lifestyle crediting his children as the reason for the dramatic change.

In an interview in the September issue of Men’s Health magazine the Irish star has revealed he has undergone a total body overhaul in order to ‘live as long as possible’ so he can see his sons James, nine, and Henry, two, grow up.

Colin explained: ‘What my first son James did was allow me to care for something in this world when I couldn’t care for myself. James saved my life.’

Farrell’s eldest son, who suffers from Angelman syndrome, was fathered with US model Kim Bordenav, while Henry’s mother is actress Alicja Bachleda-Curuś who Colin split from a year after the birth of their son.

And speaking about his healthy lifestyle compared to his old habits he explained: ‘I don’t put the same level of energy into healthy living as I did into unhealthy living. I put an enormous amount of energy into the destruction of my body and if I put the same amount into treating my body in a positive way, that too would end up being a sickness. But I eat really well, drink loads of green tea, and take a s***load of vitamins.’

And it a healthy diet isn’t enough Colin recently embarked on a gruelling fitness schedule to get into shape for his latest film Total Recall which involved jogging two miles and a hour of weights six days a week three months before the film began shooting.

The actor found himself impressed by his stamina and noted: ‘I’m somebody who a couple of years ago couldn’t even run a mile.’

While Colin describes the simple life as ‘so f***ing boring’ he reveals he actually quite enjoys all the peace and quiet spending time devoted to his two boys.

He noted: ‘Life has mutated to take on this sweet simplicity that I am really f***ing ok with.’

All he needs now is to perhaps work a little on his potty mouth, which Colin admits his children have already picked up on.

‘I had my kid saying ‘sh*t, sh*t’ when he spilled something the other day. At least it was an appropriate use of the word.’

[From The Mail]

Oooh, his son cusses like Colin! I wonder if his boys mimic their dad’s accent too? I do wonder about Colin’s relationships with those boys – from what little I know, Colin and Kim Bordenave do share custody of James, and Colin spends a lot of time with James when he’s in LA, which is more often than not. But what about Henry, the son he had with Alicja Bachleda? Henry will be 3 years old this October. I never hear about Colin seeing Henry… I mean, it could totally happen under the radar and everything. But I do wonder if Colin and Alicja ended their relationship on somewhat bad terms.

Also… it seems like forever since we’ve heard anything about Colin hooking up with ANYONE. There was something about Rihanna a while back…?? Beyond that, I’m at a loss. We should totally set him up with someone interesting. Don’t say Kristen Stewart. Or Katy Perry. He should be with someone closer to his age. January Jones, maybe?

Good on him. Very proud of him.
Yuck to January Jones. How about Michelle Rodriguez? That woman’s hot. And she’s tough & independent. Kinda what he needs.

  2. carrie says:

finally he becomes adult and a great daddy and he focuses on his career.

i remember his begining at Hollywood (the next big thing “johnny depp meeting brad pitt”)and how he became famous not for his acting but for his sex life

Which I thought was sad at the time because he is actually a good actor. But good on him for realising he was damaging himself and making the decision to improve his life. Cough *lohan* cough

from what we have heard here, in Poland, it seems they’re quite ok (Colin & Alicja), since they split there were few times some photos of Colin and Henry and some tabloids were writing, that while Alicja was filming her movie “September Eleven 1683” in Europe, Henry and Colin were speaking via Skype from time to time. and also, as far as I know, she lives with Henry in LA, so they’re not very far from each other…

So true, actually Colin is more often spotted with Henry than with James (at least by paparazzi).

  4. Jayna says:

I saw him on Ellen and he was great, and he gives public props to the mothers who are the stability in his sons’ lives when he’s off making movies. I loved him in the Telephone Booth. He carried that whole movie shot mostly from one spot. Very talented. People grow up and mature.

  5. Justyna says:

There were many photos of Colin and Henry together. Alicja lives in LA and few months ago, when her dad got very sick (cancer) and she went to see him in Poland, Colin was taking care of Henry all by himself. As far as I remember, he even took him to Ireland to see his extended family. Polish media write about them quiet often.

  6. Feebee says:

Yeah growing up can suck can’t it? But yay for Colin. Always a talent and it was okay to retire one of them.

I have kids and the same potty mouth problem. I do try not to and tell them they can’t use adult words. Luckily they do it rarely but they do use them correctly.

  7. Naye in VA says:

He will ALWAYS for my lady parts.
Dont let him get near me with that accent. We’d have twelve years to make up for.

What about me?! Just throwing out there the idea…

A guy who likes to go down always puts my lady parts on high alert.

      +1

And call me a big sap but so does a man who talks about how he loves his kids and being a dad.

  11. NYC_girl says:

It’s all about the eyes. He’s HOT.

  12. Eileen says:

Oh MAN-every since I saw him in Ondine I am SO hot for him! YUM-OOOOO

  13. Gigi says:

    He’s soooo HOT !

  14. MollyB says:

I’m pretty sure the story about his kid saying “shit” must refer to Henry as I think most kids with Angelman Syndrome are non-verbal or have very, very limited verbal skills.

  15. Incredulous says:

A grueling work out of about 90 minutes a day? Grueling? Taxing, okay.

Glad to see he’s a rehab success, though. I know too many people who never quite manage to quit the drugs.

  16. LittleDeadGirl says:

He’s still super hot to me but I’m debating on seeing Total Recall.

  17. Thea says:

I think he should hook up with Mila Kunis. That would be a hot pair. Lot better than Ashton. Ever.

  18. marisa says:

his next hook-up should be me 🙂
