Brad Pitt plays a mob assassin in the ‘Killing Them Softly’ trailer: interesting?

Here’s the trailer for Brad Pitt’s latest film, Killing Them Softly. Pitt filmed this movie a while back in New Orleans – I think he filmed this before the neverending production of World War Z, right? Brad reunited with director Andrew Dominik, who Brad worked with on The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford. Which Brad often cites as one of his favorite films that he’s ever worked on. Killing Them Softly premiered at the Cannes Film Festival this year, and the reviews were… solid. Not overwhelmingly great, but solid, and it’s believed that this film will be pushed for some big awards this coming season. Maybe even another acting nomination for Brad?

The basic story – well, it’s loosely based on the 1974 novel Cogan’s Trade. Brad Pitt plays a mob enforcer who comes to Boston to kill a couple of small-timers who robbed a mob card game. The film also stars James Gandolfini, Ray Liotta and Richard Jenkins. It’s nice to see Jenkins in a gritty role, but it seems like Gandolfini and Liotta’s casting is kind of… expected? Like, if there’s going to be a mob movie, you just have to cast those two dudes. Anyway, here’s the trailer:

Unfortunately for me, I’ve never found Brad Pitt more attractive than when he plays a slick mob dude. So… he’s really giving it to me here. As I said, Jenkins looks interesting, as do the “small time crooks”. But Liotta and Gandolfini seem to be sleepwalking through their roles a bit. That’s just my initial thought – I like both men a great deal, and it will be interesting to see them act opposite Brad Pitt.

      +1.

I think it looks good. I love BP’s look for this movie, very sexy. My hubby is a Ray Liotta/mob film fan, so no doubt once he sees this trailer he’ll be on board to see it with me hehe.

Wow, another movie that’s probably full of guns, shooting and gruesome violence. And maybe some of it is even directed at young, attractive women! Sounds great. I’m sure Brad Pitt will be very proud to show his kids this wonderful movie. Barf.

    • Tiffany says:

It is supposed to be a commentary on the banking meltdown. Crazy, huh?

    • Tess says:

Yes, he probably will be, when they are old enough to watch it. Actors should not only work in movies their kids can watch, and there are works of fiction with violence in it since the beggining of times, so there’s nothing to be embarassed about.

I’m a fan of most gangster movies, so to me this looks like something worth watching. Pitt and Liotta in said movie, please I am so there..

  5. Katherine says:

Pitt looks incredibly sexy and rugged here. It’s a great look for the character. Obviously Pitt does really well directed by Dominick and there’s no doubt that Dominick can tell a story (Chopper, Assassination of Jesse James).

If people can’t handle movies about crime then they should simply not watch them. It’s rather naive and narrow minded to think these movies shouldn’t be made. Some of the finest movies ever made are violent and real. That’s life and movies reflect life.

Kaiser, I disagree with YOUR assessment on the reviews for Killing them softly. It has 88% on Rotten tomatoes. 15 of the 17 reviews from Cannes gave it a “fresh” rating. The reviews were good. Even the movie sites are in agreement with this. I for one will be paying to see this movie. Kristen Stewart’s movie is the one that received crappy reviews.

Most def I want to see this one. I love to see Pitt playing a bad guy. He was great in Kalifornia.

  11. Jackie O says:

this subject and style has been done to death all ready. maybe would have been cool 10 years ago.

  12. Johnny says:

Bless his heart… He is certainly showing his age and then some. Certainly not the gorgeous hunk he use to be! That being said, I think maybe it is time to see the plastic surgeon…

    • Tiffany says:

But isn’t that awesome that Hollywood/American-Movie-Going-Public LETS him show his age?

On this week’s Hollywood Reporter, Steve Carell is shown in black and white with every wrinkle and pore in vivid detail. It is kind of sad, IMO, that it would kill an actress’s career to have a shot that unflattering. I dont think the Hollywood big wigs, or the American public, will let women be that “real”. Sad.

    • Dragon says:

Oh, do I get this right? If someone ages they should see a plastic surgeon? How weird is this? Show me one person who looks better after plastic surgery. Most of the look like zombies afterwards.
Honestly your remark is really sick.

hmm, this gets a thumbs-up from me

Brad Pitt has the effect of a sleeping pill on me, sorry he never more than mediocre in movies.

Have you ever thought about including more than just your content? I suggest, what an individual say is very important and anything. However think of if a person added some good images or videos to offer your blogposts more, pop! Your content is excellent but along with images and movies, this website could certainly be probably the most beneficial in its market. Awesome weblog!
