These are some photos from the Season 4 premiere of Glee last night. Many of the Glee people were there, but I’m choosing to focus solely on Lea Michele and Kate Hudson, who honestly seemed like they were taking part in some kind of Fug-Off. Lea is wearing Versace, Kate is wearing Alexander McQueen. At first I thought this was a case of “Two not-great looks side-by-side, being less than the sum of the parts.” So I studied the looks separately to see if they looked better… and no go. These outfits are awful. The styling for both women is awful.
Let’s look at Lea first, in this Versace. How cheap does that lace paneling look? How much better would this dress have been if it was just solid black, long-sleeved with a deep V? And once again, to all of the resolute bangs-defenders out there, I apologize – but this is a horrible hairstyle for Lea. The bangs plus those poorly-executed highlights… everything looks so budget.
For Kate, it does feel a bit more complicated. For one, she’s a “movie star” who signed on to do a 4-episode arc at the start of this Glee season. By most career theories, she should come out looking great, like she’s showing these TV Girls how it’s done. But are these bunchy McQueen pants the answer? What about subtly showing off her bolt-ons? And the hair and makeup… UGH. Kate has been looking so great lately, but I think she just faltered completely here.

I know that ombre look for hair is in right now, but it looks terrible on Lea. The bangs trauma (and I have never used that phrase) are awful as well. It looks like a wig. Her dress fits okay, but shes back to that overly posing thing again
Kate’s shirt and jacket are okay, but the hair and those god awful pants. Ick.
The minute I saw her hair I thought it was a wig. Still do. Hate to say it, but I think Lea Michelle looks better. Kate has been looking great lately, but I feel like that makes it a bigger fail.
Lea Michelle with her over posing almost always looks budget. Here she just looks stripper budget.

Lea looks like she is wearing a really bad wig, it’s just too much hair! She really needs to tone everything down.

Kate’s hair draws too much attention to her ears, they look weirdly oversized for her head with that hairstyle
It’s Kate’s pants that are so bad…w/ the black stripe down the sides…she looks like she’s in a marching band uniform. I do commend her, though, because she’s always had a thin upper lip (not bad at all) – but she has resisted a collagen procedure…hope she doesn’t do what her mom, Goldie did to her lips. Lea, put away the boobs. I hate to say that (I’m such a be-ach), but Lea reminds me of Paula Abdul in drag.

Lea wins, but only by a smidge. Her dress is too Vegas, her hair too big for a true fashion win.
Kate, shiny forehead and sweaty gym hair on prominent display, is a rumpled mess in unflattering flood pants. Her attitude screams, “I’m cooler than these Glee kids in my casual clothes. This just isn’t a big deal.”
The outfits are awful – the hair is horrible on both of them.
Kate Hudson’s ears are actually BIGGER than mine – she could do a dumbo with them. And here all these years I thought I had the biggest ears in the history of the human race! ^_^
I have to laugh at that b/c the first thing I noticed about her was her ears and it actually made me feel better about mine. Ive only started to notice them since Ive gotten older and I swear my left ear is trying to separate from my head. The right one is fine but I think the way I sleep is making my left one stick out farther. I rarely will wear my hair behind my ears any more b/c of it but now that I see hers, I really dont think mine are bad at all…lol
It’s funny because her fiance Matt has been described as looking like a rat, and Kate’s ears make her look like a mouse. I like her ears actually.
HATE the clothes and hairstyle in these shots though, ugh.
Lea Michele kills me . . . she makes a big deal about not fixing her nose, but has those enormous, horrible, fake teeth. They cannot possibly look better than her original teeth.
I hate the sideline of Kate’s pants. I think it would look better without it and if the pants fits better then it won’t be that bad.
Lea looks like a drag queen and Kate looks cheap.
Lea has a decent enough body- but that face? UGH. It’s like everything is too big and its just so unappealing.
Lea’s dress looks as cheap as her hair, which looks like she got a great deal on mismatched extensions.
Kate’s hairdo is awful & that particular cami is not a good look under the jacket.
The white tux just isn’t working for Kate. She’s trying to pull off Marlene Dietrich and channeling Tom Jones instead.
Disagree about Kate ever looking good – without maximum photoshopping. Have you seen her baby pictures? Yikes! She should avoid any hairstyle that shows her ears sticking out. The outfit looks like a marching band uniform!
Somebody should tell Lea how to stand up straight. She looks like a black sock full of oranges.
Kate looks more effortless and cool. Lea, as usual, is trying too hard.

Can’t stand the ombré look. It just looks like she’s growing out her real color. I actually like Lea’s outfit. And i can’t hate on her hairstyle. I actually like bangs. There is absolutely nothing I like about Kate’s. Bad hair, bad outfit.
Even though I wish more women could embrace their small breasts, I must admit, I completely understand why Kate had hers augmented. I have small breasts like her, and after two children, there is really nothing to them anymore. You don’t just lose size after breastfeeding, you lose what I can only call substance. Your breast mass just changes completely. So when you have large breasts, they might droop or sag, but they still fill out a bikini top or give you nice cleavage in a low-cut shirt. When you have small breasts, though, you’re left with these little pancakes/fried eggs that look flat in anything that doesn’t have major padding. And a simple lift won’t help because they’ve lost all firmness and there isn’t anything to lift. So an augmentation it is.
Sorry if that was too graphic, but I just wanted to say that I get it, Kate. Rock the fake tits. Why not?
Lea loves showing off her flat chest. She is so incredibly try hard even though her outfits are mostly misses. She’d look better if she’d loosen up, stop trying so hard to look sexy, and not attempt to pose in every photo she takes.
Lea is just a mess. Not even a hot mess just a mess. I mean I guess she could be hot if she knew how to style herself. But her bangs are just atrocious and she’s too try hard. Like can she just stop posing for at least a second of her life? Also too much eye make up. And that dress looks super tacky with the lace panelling.

They both look ok, but I don’t like Kate’s hair in this….I’ve heard Lea is quite a diva and a hand full. If so, she isn’t the kind of person I would admire, no matter what she looks like. If she’s not a nice person, or if she is too much into herself, then she’s just like all the others in her category, talent or not. On the other hand, I seem to like Kate.

I hate to sound mean, but Kate should really wear her hair down for obvious reasons….
I think Kate’s kind of beauty is what makes Lea such a try-hard. (I think they’re both gorgeous, but Hollywood, fashion, and media put such a narrow definition of beauty on a pedestal that 95% of us feel insecure.)
That said, I like Kate’s suit better, it would have been more interesting with a deep purple blouse.
The styling is… interesting. I wouldn’t call it awful. I would call it sort of Grace Jones meets Nicholson’s Joker. Costumey and not in a totally bad way. I like Kate’s look best of the two.

Seriously, I usually love Lea Michele’s bangs, but these are too choppy and way too short. They both look stunning in the show, but they look absolutely horrible here. WHY would you dress like that for a PREMIERE? And what the heck is up with Kate’s hair?
