Lourdes Leon blogs about her ‘summer job’ working for her mom’s European tour

I always forget that Lourdes Leon has her own little blog. She does! She blogs for the Material Girl Collection, which she co-designs or whatever for Macy’s. Lola is a little entrepreneur, and she writes like a teenager (a funny, self-aware teenager), which makes her blog posts extra-interesting. The theme of her most recent blog post is “What I did on my summer break” and “I hate going back to school”. Typical teenage dramz, of course, except that Lola is Madonna’s daughter, so Lola spent her summer working for Madge’s tour, and “back to school” for Lola involves balancing school work with her Material Girl line. Here’s Lola’s blog post, called “The Joys of Folding Underwear”.

Aloha to all, I trust your summers were spent well and you got nothing very productive done because that’s usually how I spend mine. If you’re someone who leaves summer reading to the last week of summer you know what I’m talking about.

Actually this summer I was SURPRISINGLY productive. So, I thought I would tell you all about the joys of folding underwear. As you probably know this woman I like to call my mother went on tour for her MDNA album. As a summer job I decided to work in the wardrobe department. All of my friends were getting summer jobs and I wanted one too. Mine was a little unconventional but still a great experience and a lot of fun. Being in the wardrobe department meant me and a few other girls dressed the dancers during the show when they had quick changes. Thirty seconds to totally dress a sweaty dancer can be insane and provoke mucho anxiety. Doing this night after night was pretty cray, but I loved every minute of it!

Besides being able to travel the world and visiting all these amazing countries (my favorites were Amsterdam, Copenhagen and Turkey) it’s really a great experience to be able to work on a large production, traveling around like a family, setting up for an amazing show and all having the same purpose. I developed really good relationships with a number of people, not just in wardrobe but in other departments too. Dancers, singers, sound crew, catering, etc. To be able to be a part of such an inspiring production was one of my best summers so far.

Besides summer coming and leaving faster than you can say ohmygoditsaflyingpigwithgreenfeetandnobutthole, the school year has officially started for those you who are still students. When I get ready for school in the moring I move at a slothlike pace and music gets me slightly more motivated.

Here are a few fave songs that I would recommend:

-Lana Del Rey; National Anthem
-Yeah Yeah Yeah; Heads will roll ( A-Track Remix)
-Slightly Stoopid; Closer to the sun
-Skrillex; Kyoto
-Peaches; Mommy Complex
-Neon Indian; Hex Girlfriend
-Grimes; Oblivion
-Fiona Apple; Criminal
-Friends; Friend Crush.

Okee so those are a few of my idontwanttogotoschoolbutiwillforcemyselfto sounds. As for back to school clothes – my go-to article of clothing has been American Apparel’s circle scarf. It’s so versatile – there are tons of ways you can wear it.

Hope all of you guys had and are having a great start to your school year always remember to choose hugs not drugs because THAT’S always been MY moto.

Stay in school bitches and make sure you are getting proper nutrients all day urrday.

PEACE!

I didn’t edit this at all. That’s how she spells “motto”. And she uses words like “urrday” (which is funny) and “ohmygoditsaflyingpigwithgreenfeetandnobutthole” (which is kind of try-hard). As for the whole vibe that Lola gives… she’s a teenager! I like the fact that she worked behind-the-scenes on her mom’s tour, and that she seems to have inherited (or been given from her parents) a work ethic instead of a veneer of entitlement. Long live Lola Leon!

  2. Nev says:

    Go on Lola!!!!! Very cute.

  3. Amelia says:

I used to be a bit wary of this girl but it seems she’s growing up into a grounded, aware, savvy young lady.
Crikey. Madge has done something right.

    • Liv says:

No tv time paid off 😉

Seriously, I once read that she’s super strict with her kids, which is probably a good thing, regarding that they grow up in a pretty confusing environment.

  4. Anmelt says:

She looks a lot like her mom but dark haired and more olive skinned. She sounds quite nice and intelligent enough.

    • Trek Girl says:

She looks a lot like her father as well. She’s like the perfect mix of her parents’ looks.

      • jc126 says:

Madonna’s features with Carlos Leon’s coloring. She’s really cute. I think Lourdes is on the short side, too.

    • Liv says:

She’s really beautiful! You could already see that when she was a child.

      • Ashley says:

She does realize Copenhagen and Amsterdam are cities, not countries, right? She sounds perfectly nice, but I think she may have skipped geography class.

  5. Talie says:

I think it’s great that she doesn’t sound too adult. It’s charming.

  6. Sadie says:

For all her crazy, I do believe Madge is a good mom.

On a some what related note, I still wonder what happened between goop and madge?

    • Cazzee says:

The surprising part is that two such world-class narcissists managed to stay friends for as long as they did.

    • Tasha says:

Goopy decided to remain friends with two people who stole money from Madonna (one was her charity director who her trainer had a fling with, despite being with someone else, and other other was her trainer, who besides taken money from her, used her name to build an empire for herself…). She also invited Guy’s flings during and after the divorce to her home.

I can imagine it’s a great experience working on a tour like that. Madonna’s last tour four years ago Lola worked the costume department also. Madonna said she didn’t want her teens laying around in a hotel room. Lola love it back then. You could see bend the scenes shots of Lola and Rocco practicing dance moves with the dancers and Rocco old stage dancing to the moves. The last tour one show Lola at 12 came out on stage in tails sitting at a piano with her mother on top shrouded at the beginning of a song. The piano was on a circle that moved and Lola played the song Devil Wouldn’t Recignize You, beautiful song. She did a great job and the audience went wild. Rocco and Lola danced with the dancers and mom in the encore song on the very last night of mom’s tour. The dancers seemed to love and were very protective of the kids.

I am so jealous of her thick hair. Mine is flat and baby-thin.

  9. Eileen says:

She’s adorable! I agree-very intellegent but not pretentious sounding. She seems to have a great work ethic and hello: how many celeb offsprings would be ok with dressing sweaty people?? Good for her!

  10. Hakura says:

She really comes across sweet & charming, & *actually* doesn’t abuse caps & punctuation. That alone is an accomplishment, even with the couple intentionally slang words.

I have high hopes for her in the future, she’s by far the most promising celebrity’s kid going.

  11. spinner says:

Good job, Madonna!! Looks like you’ve raised up a well-rounded young lady.

  12. LucyOriginal says:

Lola, stay in school! You’ll learn that Amsterdam and Copenhagen are not countries, :).

    • J says:

That’s what a pricey, private education gets you. Well, at least she used the correct “too” a few sentences later.

      • Tasha says:

She’s been going to a public HS for some years now. I actually think she’s smart and funny, but like lots of teenagers, doesn’t bother to re-read what she’s written.

  13. Mirna says:

I still can’t get over how much she looks like her mom. Beautiful girl and obviously down-to-earth and well rounded, too. Sad though, that Madonna spent the entire tour trying to be provocative (I say “trying” because it was all too contrived for me), by flashing her boobs, vag and anything else that would catch on the internet. If you have to do all that to build a buzz, maybe it’s time to hang it up.

    • Tasha says:

Given that she’s on track to expand her lead as the top touring solo artist, I don’t think she needs to hang up anything. She showed her bottom, but she was wearing undergarments and stockings (also, see the performance in context & pay attention to the proceeding song). Others were not but didn’t get trashed for it, given that they’re half her age. She doesn’t really have to try to be controversial, given that everyone seems to get their feathers ruffled over everything she says or does–her opinion on flowers made international headline news for a while.

      • Mirna says:

If she’s a “top touring artist” then she can stop flashing her boobs and vag! It was gratuitous and unnecessary. Exactly what kind of example is she setting for her daughter? That if you’re not getting enough attention, flash a body part to get people talking again? And her album sales preceding the tour were dismal, so, no, she is not as “in demand” as you and she would like us to think she is.

      • Tasha says:

Her album had the biggest debut of the year and is currently the 6th best selling of the year world wide without promo. You pick up one thing and think you know everything. While her album didn’t sell as much as her previous albums, neither are most albums out there by other artists. The gap between the top 2-10 albums is small. She sacrificed album promo to train for her tour (right after she trained for the Super Bowl) and to be with her kids. The gap between when her album was released (which broke records and went #1 in over 50 countries, something other pop stars half her age couldn’t accomplish) and when she started her tour was the shortest she ever had. She wanted to make sure to start her tour when her kids would be on school break, so they wouldn’t miss school. She can express herself however she wants (she doesn’t NEED to, she WANTS to), I’m sure her kids know the difference between stage performances and real life. I’ve never seen her wear only a bra & thong while picking them up at school.

      • Elizabeth says:

She is telling a story of an older woman divorced, broken, perhaps prostituting herself but looking to feel new, looking for love again. The performance is overwhelmingly theatrical, or as Madonna herself put it, cinematic musical theater. Would anyone protest nudity in a traditional stage or movie production ? It is sexy and courageous actually that she places herself in such a vulnerable position, looking great but knowing that no matter WHAT she looks like, because of her age people will find SOME kind of imperfection to point out no matter what. I think she looks amazing, I don’t get the ageism, but I know it is there and the stripped down moments somehow appeal to that.

what O_O, the Material Girl collection is her designs >_<, i never knew this.. i like the designs even though they material is a bit cheap, but still nice and affordable… We have it in Canada too…I bought MG purple pants yesterday ^^"

  15. MonicaQ says:

She actually types like an teenager…I should say an educated teenager. Still whimsical but correct spelling and NaWt LyKe Di$!11!!

My 15 year old cousin and I had a talk about how it’s not correct to say, “King Henry told the Colonies brb before he called the British Navy,” during an essay. I substitute HS English for 2 years and I just remember cringing anytime I got papers back. Napoleon didn’t escape “for the lulz”.

    • Cazzee says:

Yes, I noticed that as well – and was grateful for it. It’s kind of sad that knowledge of the rules of grammar and spelling is turning into another thing that separates the haves and the have-nots.

  16. dcypher1 says:

Its nice to see a celeb spawn with a good head on her shoulders. Im glad shes not a narcissistic brat like her mother so far. She might be as an adult time will tell.

  17. Cosmo317 says:

    I LUV this kid!

  18. Christian says:

I like her. She seems to have a good head on her shoulders and appears to be surprisingly grounded. I like how she made friends with everyone (dancers, caterers, sound crew, etc). You KNOW that was not the case with her mother! Hahaha.

    • Tasha says:

That’s not true. The cast and crew have spoken about working with her before and she’s a lot more laid back and friendly than people seem to think. Listen to interviews with Monte Pittman. She is demanding when it comes to her shows themselves because she wants them to go well for her fans, but she’s often the first to arrive and the last to leave, so she isn’t expecting anything more from others than she expects from herself.

  19. Zimmer says:

I want her and Paris to hang out.

  20. FuefinaWG says:

Of course she’s going to make “friends” on the tour; who would dare to start some shit with her? With exception to the glaring grammatical error of “me and a few other girls” she appears to have a brain that she uses.

  21. Pandy says:

Really, who cares? She’ll be force fed down our throats within another 4 years or so anyway so why start early?

  22. Gretchen says:

she is without a doubt gorgeous and seems quite sweet… i just hope from this quote:
“visiting all these amazing countries (my favorites were Amsterdam, Copenhagen and Turkey)”
she knows that only one of those is an actual country….

  23. RdyfrmycloseupmrDvlle says:

shes breathtakingly beautiful. I hope she says grounded……..
