You might think this story is a no-brainer, especially considering the obviousness of Crystal Harris’s long con. The 26-year-old (cough) is a bolter – I’m surprised she even made it down the aisle to marry Hugh Hefner on New Year’s Eve, as planned. She bolted from the first planned wedding, which probably doesn’t show that she’s super trustworthy. So of course Hugh Hefner made Crystal sign a prenup – I doubt his children and his lawyers would have let him marry her if she refused to sign. Besides that, it’s obvious that Crystal’s long con isn’t about divorce and alimony – it’s obvious that the con is to wait Hef out, and work her way into his will. Unfortunately for poor Crystal, Hef has that covered too:
The bunny isn’t after his money! In the Jan. 21 issue of Us Weekly (on stands Friday), a source reveals Playboy mogul Hugh Hefner, 86, and nude model Crystal Harris, 26, signed an “ironclad” prenup before tying the knot Dec. 31.
Harris, December 2009’s Playmate of the Month, has not been added to the editor’s pre-existing will. Hefner’s estimated $43 million fortune is promised to “his children, the University of Southern California film school and a variety of charities,” the source says.
But Harris — who unexpectedly broke things off with the twice-married father of four in June 2011, five days before their first planned wedding — has made peace with Hefner’s plan.
Just days before their winter wedding, the lingerie store owner told Us, “Our relationship is better than ever. Things are perfect.”
Before their big day, Harris explained why she got cold feet in 2011. “Last time it turned into a big ordeal and then it all fell apart,” she told Us. “This time around is amazing. . . I’m very happy and Hef’s very happy and we’re excited.”
First of all – Hef is only worth $43 million? At various points in the past, the Playboy empire was worth at least a billion, although the business is really struggling these days (print media, what are you going to do?). Still, I would have thought Hef had stockpiled more money and assets than that.
As for the issues of the prenup and will – as I said, the prenup is obvious. If she divorces him, I bet she gets a meager (but livable) settlement or alimony and that’s about it. But I find it hard to believe that if she waits him out and she’s still married to him when he dies, she’ll get nothing? I don’t care if he’s already got a will and he’s not going to change it – legally, I don’t see how Hef’s executor would get away with giving Crystal NOTHING, you know? Legal, current wives always get something, or they hire lots and lots of lawyers and cause a huge family fight. See also: Anna Nicole Smith.

but if those numbers are true that doesnt sound much. playboy is such a well known name all around the world.

she can always cash in with interviews and books after his death but why he marries her, i dont know, that doesnt make sense to me.

I’m sure she’ll find some way to get at his cash – it’s not as though she married him for lurve. I’ve heard that pre-nups are not always legally enforceable and can be challenged in court.

Yeah she will find a way – through a baby. Im sure she is already arranging her baby Hef strategy. That would be disgusting on so so many levels and would serve her right if that actually didn’t happen.

Eh – he married her for her looks and a pillowy place to rest his head at night (I presume) and she married him for the lifetyle. They’re both getting something out of the relationship, and I think it’s stone-cold to keep your spouse out of the will. It seems like there’s not a lot of actual LOVE there.
This is what I thought too, megs283. She likes the lifestyle and the lasting fame it will bring if she plays her cards right. Plus, she will keep the gifts he gives her–jewelry, clothing, cars—like the rest of the girls always have. Dollar wise, she could do a lot worse for a first marriage!
Also, from watching The Girls Next Door, Hef doesn’t seem like such a bad old guy to be around if you can stomach (ahem) old guys.
This guy revolts me. Yes, the girls are gold diggers, but seriously, why else does he think they hang around? Really time he packed it in.

I read somewhere yesterday that while she’s not in the will, she will be “taken care of”. So he may have a life insurance policy with her as beneficiary, or a trust separate from his estate. I’m not a lawyer and don’t know how these things work.
What a bizarre way to live life, yeah she’s a god digger, but she’s also a young woman who believes her only wroth and value is her body.
What about Hefner?
He stopped being the cliched male hero a long time ago. His magazines don’t sell like they used to. He’s going to spend the rest of his days with girls who consider boning him a chore and probably laugh shot his wrinkled bits when his back is turned and he’s barely out of ear shot.

Wasn’t there an expose a few years ago by an ex-bunny who described living conditions at the mansion as almost squalor and that they didn’t really have “relations” with Hef? This myth of an old man getting it on with much younger women has passed its use by date a long time ago.

Personal wealth is a lot different from whatever he’s got held in business and personal trusts. He wouldn’t hold those assets personally, but is probably the trustee with control over their use.
Wives don’t always get something in a will. You mention Anna Nicole but she is actually the perfect example; she may have fought it but she and her estate didn’t win that battle in the end.
That’s what I was assuming. His children probably already have a large part of the estate through trusts or as employees of the business.
She’s his wife. If he dies in two years, she deserves something. Hef buys them practically out of their teens and you are faulting her for wanting something in return. You marry someone. They are your wife. She deserves something once he dies. They are both getting what they want out of the marriage, so I don’t feel sorry for Hef or her for having to get into bed with him at night.
That photo is too funny. The background looks like a set off a ’70s movie. I don’t think Hef has ever changed the decor since then. That mansion is so dated and dusty and dark-looking inside. I couldn’t stand to live there. The grounds are beautiful, though.

I wonder if they don’t count the Playboy Mansion and its 5 acre property in his total fortune? The fact that it is located in Holmby Hills would make it worth tens of millions if not more. Also, Hef doesn’t live cheaply. The operating expenses of the mansion cost two to three million every year. I wouldn’t be surprised if his children WANT him to die soon as he has been wasting away the money like it’s still the 1960s or something. It’ll be interesting to see what happens when he kicks the bucket, not just with Crystal, but with his kids, the magazine, the mansion, everything. But apparently Hef’s mother lived until she was 101, so we (and Crystal) might be waiting awhile.

I’ll admit that I read that Bunny Tales book so $43 million would be Hef’s personal wealth as everything else would be held by Playboy Enterprises.
The mansion is also owned by Playboy Enterprises, not Hef personally, so Crystal has no claim on that. According to Bunny Tales Hef has to pay rent on each bedroom used.
According to that book, Hef owns Playboy magazine outright and everything else is owned by Playboy Enterprises which is a publicly listed company.
Also, a wife can legally be left out of a will. My grandfather split from his very own gold digger 4 years ago (I stress she is not my grandmother) but they are only separated because a divorce would be too costly so his will had to be updated with something like “I am legally married to xxxx and I have intentionally left her out of my will”.
