You may have seen these photos of Presidential Elect Barack Obama shirtless while on vacation in Hawaii for the holidays, but they’re worth revisiting. Judging from these photos of 47 year-old in swimming trunks, he hasn’t neglected his physique on the campaign trail.
According to the Washington Post, Obama has hit the gym for around an hour and a half a day for “at least 48 days in a row.” Friends say he relies on fitness to get through stressful times, and his staff knows it’s something that needs to be scheduled for each day.
Obama had Christmas dinner with US servicemen and women at Marine Corps Base Hawaii Kaneohe Bay on Oahu. He went table to table shaking hands with US Marines and sailors and wishing everyone a Merry Christmas. Also on Obama’s agenda while in Hawaii was a round of golf on Christmas Eve.
It was just announced that Obama will be sworn into office using the very same bible that President Lincoln used in 1861. The historic bible has been preserved by the Library of Congress in their rare book collection.

CB – While in Hawaii, Obama also released his grandmother’s ashes (with his sister Maya) on the same cliff they released their mother’s ashes.
@Kaiser we can get those photos of Obama scattering his Grandma’s ashes but I chose not to run them or really mention it. Obama said in his 60 Minutes interview that he felt the loss of privacy and anonymity the most, and somehow I don’t think he is comfortable with those photos of a private moment with his family getting out. We don’t run any photos from funerals or of people mourning after a death so it just didn’t seem right.
I think he was at Kailua Beach, which is next to Kaneohe Bay (good job spelling the Hawaiian names correctly). My daughter was at Kailua the day the picture was taken, and she saw secret service nearby; they had cleared a section of the beach and there was only one group of people sitting in that section. People were still allowed to cross at the waterline, so that’s where the pap was when they got the picture.
I understand working out to get through stress, but like all things it shouldn’t become an obsession (at least 48 days in a row).
I work out (almost) every day, (I have found as I get older I am just trying to hold on) it relieves alot of tension. It’s a fact that exercise helps with your mental well being, and you have more energy. Good for him!

If you don’t make working out a priority, it doesn’t happen – and the health benefits are too numerous to mention. The stress he is under must be tremendous and he is dealing with it in the best way – not drugs, not alcohol, just exercise.
Seriously sexy! mmmm! Just another thing to love about this man, in addition to his commitment to alternative energy, domestic issues and decent Supreme Court justices! (yes… I campaigned for him for a year and a half… can you tell?)

2) He is our future president. I don’t want JFK style beefcake shots of my president. I want him to show some gravitas. Put that shirt back on, Mr. President-Elect!
We’d all be better off if he spent a little less time working out and a little more time studying up on how to actually be qualified to be president. But I suppose it’s a little late now for on the job training.
So he’s supposed to go swimming with a t-shirt on? He’s in Hawaii. It’s always hot there.
If anything it’s creepy as hell that the paparazzi are taking pictures of him like this.

It’s well known that Obama spends a lot more time learning and becoming involved with the issues in this country than Bush ever did. He’s extraordinarily disciplined and dedicated. As far as working out? Kudos to him…it does keep one healthier and more mentally alert than just sitting around. If the man wants a swim, let him have one for Pete’s sake. He’s very popular, and it’s not his fault if someone snaps a photo of him while he’s doing something healthy and normal.
