Edward Norton his fiancée Shauna Robertson are expecting their first child

I always forget that Edward Norton has had a girlfriend for years. For some reason, in my mind, he’s perpetually forlorn and single after he and Salma Hayek broke up, but no, he moved on to Shauna Robertson, who is Canadian and “film producer”. I’m including some photos of Shauna with Edward in Cannes last year – is she giving anyone else Vera Farmiga vibes? It took me forever to figure that out – she could be Vera Farmiga’s sister. Anyway, Edward and Shauna have been together for a while but everyone always forgets because Edward is crazy-private and he’s also not around that much anymore – his career has definitely faltered since he got the reputation as a know-it-all jackass who demands constant re-writes, etc. He’s known as a “handful”. And it’s about to get worse – Edward is about to become a dad!

Edward Norton is about to take on the role of a lifetime: dad! The Moonrise Kingdom actor, 43, is set to welcome his first child with longtime love Shauna Robertson “any day now,” a source tells Us Weekly.

“Ed is really excited for fatherhood. He helped pick out a stroller for the baby!” the insider tells Us of the famously private star.

Norton and Robertson, a Canadian film producer who has worked frequently with Judd Apatow on movies including The 40-Year-Old Virgin and Knocked Up, reportedly got engaged in 2011 after six years of dating. Together, they co-founded the fundraising site CrowdRise, which uses crowd-sourcing and incentives to get people to raise money for various charitable causes.

Prior to meeting Robertson, Norton romanced Courtney Love and Salma Hayek. A rep for the actor had no comment regarding Roberton’s pregnancy.

What’s with all of the undercover paternity lately? Jeremy Renner’s situation was like this too –Renner knocked up an ex-girlfriend, moved her into his guest house and no one knew anything until his ex was like eight months along. And now it seems like Edward is on the verge of becoming a dad too – any day now! Well, congrats to him. I hope fatherhood chills him out a little bit. Maybe he’ll learn how to not be so controlling.

Edward Norton, one of my favorite brainy-type heart throbs when I was in college. He was sooo cute in Keeping the Faith. Am I alone on this?! There’s something smoldering about him in his intensity.

    • Amelia says:

      You’re *so* not alone there!
Although my crush has faltered a bit since the reports of douchery, but tbh, I still don’t really know what it’s all about. But, experience has told me C/B readers are usually v. accurate!
      Congratulations to them both 🙂

    • eggnog says:

Loved him in The Illusionist and Kingdom of Heaven. He was just in Moonrise Kingdom and is currently working on another Wes Anderson movie, so maybe he’s making the transition to more indie-ish movies.

Not my usual type, but agh, so cute.

    • Lipsy says:

Divo or not, he’s sexy as hell!!! I loved him in Kingdom of Heaven, Fight Club (Brad who? lol), even Hulk! He brings intensity into every role he plays… I’m just sad it’s not me who’s carrying his child 🙁

    • delia says:

I, too, am a fan of brainy heart throbs both in film fantasy and ILR. I first fell in love with Norton in “The People vs. Larry Flynt”. I’m no fan of Flynt, but it is a movie that I think is worth seeing. Great direction by Milos Forman who, in addition to Norton, coaxed out two fine, and touching, performances from Woody Harrelson and Courtney Love.
(Just watch it before you start throwing large rocks at me.)

    • Kim says:

      I LOVE HIM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

He’s brilliant and talented and there’s just something very attractive about him. I’ve always loved nerdy types though 🙂

  2. marie says:

I used to have the biggest crush on him until I heard he was a diva (divo?) and then I quickly got over it. good for him, although they kind of look alike right?

    • Tiffany27 says:

Me too. I heard about him being a diq on practically every movie and I fell out of love.

    • i'm french don't kill me says:

      he stays a great actor

according to some reports (go to see his IMDB message boards),he’s the Madonna of the actors on set and he’s not nice with the fans

      • Simmy says:

This is just my own anecdotal evidence but I met him once and he was nice. He wasn’t overly friendly like some actors I’ve met have been, but he was polite and kind.

    • Cirque28 says:

They look soooo much alike! I guess they will have a baby with a high forehead and a long, aristocratic nose.

  3. jamie says:

He was my biggest crush during my middle school years. I was obsessed like only a 13 year-old can be.

    • Mr.Smurf says:

Sadly that’s me at eighteen, with our current modelizer Leo D. I don’t know what it is. I’d heard of him before, and thought that he was a good actor, but never got the tingles. At least until I saw Django Unchained, which is kind of messed up seeing as how I could have been in that situation 150 years ago. After that little revelation, my dad went and bought a bunch of Scorcesse films for some reason (he hates buying movies). He bought the Departed, the Aviator, the Beach, we have Basketball Diaries and Catch me if you can. who knows how long I’ll last? I think Kate W. holds it together for me.

  4. i'm french don't kill me says:

    congrats!!

Courtney Love is doing a tantrum breakdown!

  5. vixo says:

I also had a big crush on him, he is a great actor. Congrats!

  6. bns says:

    Noooooo! My heart is broken.

  7. backwards says:

I used to have the biggest crush on him too.

I don’t think it’s undercover paternity, it’s simply not running around telling everyone for publicity.

  8. JenD says:

He’s so excited, he helped pick out a stroller? Wow, that shows he’s really excited!

I’ve never heard of his diva behavior, but it wouldn’t surprise me. However, he’s still mic to look at.

  9. Agnes says:

Congrats to them! (Courtney Love? Really?)

    • j.eyre says:

I know, I completely forgot (banished from my memory?) about the Courtney Love romance. Although, it may have been that brief period where she kind of had her act together.

  10. Simmy says:

He’s sexy. I’ve heard the diva rumours but I’ve also heard that some people really like working with him because he questions the scripts and the character. I think it boils down to him being a really smart guy, and some people are put off by the actor challenging the material. You can see how that could come off as arrogant. It’s a shame because he’s a great actor but he’s had to be in some real crap over the past few years.

    • Mr.Smurf says:

Well it’s more than questioning, it’s the fact that he demands things to be rewritten to HIS satisfaction. He’s a great actor, but when you do that on most, if not all your films then people will have problems.

What took the cake was that he refused to promote Hulk properly because he didn’t like how they edited the opening scene, and then was passive aggressive about doing the next one.

I hope he’s learned a little humility and gets back to doing some good movies.

      • Simmy says:

I’d agree that that’s out of line. I’m just saying I’ve also heard positive things about working with him.

It surprises me that he hasn’t directed more, his personality seems better suited to that and I remember thinking Keeping the Faith was pretty good.

    • Eve says:

They’re not mere rumours. He *IS* extremelly controlling. I’ve already posted — here on CB — 3 or 4 links (not to gossip sites) to his well-documented behaviour on set*.

I saw Norton for the first time back in 1996, and ever since I’ve been reading about him being difficult to work with. I, however, sort of defended said behaviour because I was a huge fan of his work (saying things like “oh, but he’s a perfectionist”), but then, like Mr.Smurf said, he decided to be a total jerk before, during and after The Incredible Hulk’s production. Not only that, but he even called Marvel producers’s “opaque” during an MTV interview in which he stated he “wasn’t sure he would reprise his role as Bruce Banner”.

I’m not a “hater” (I still occasionally enjoy his acting) and I wish him no harm, but he definitely lost me as a fan.

*Let me see if I can find the original comment I posted, so you can check them for yourself (will have to do that later tonight).

wow i cant believe he went out with courtney love thats hard to believe.i really cant see those two together. hes really smart and shes trashy and crazy. they are polar opposites. rational and irrational.

  12. Melissa says:

Wow – I can’t believe there are pics of him with his fiancee – he seems to never be seen on a red carpet with her.

Congrats for them. I get a Sheryl Crow vibe from her (but much younger, obviously). I think she works with Judd Apatow alot.

    • Hautie says:

I thought for moment that was crazy Jennifer Love Hewitt with him! But without the boobs.

  13. Jenn says:

Awesome news! Congrats to the both of them 🙂

  14. teec says:

Why is film producer in quotes? Robertson’s produced most of Judd Apatow’s films – she’s the real deal, not a pretender.

  15. Carolyn says:

Edward photographs amazing. We had the Prada mobile phone huge posters around a little while ago and whilst Daria was obvious I was mesmerized by him. He outshone her. No it didn’t make me by a mobile phone 🙂

PS I still like him as the bad guy in The Italian Job remake. And The Illusionist.

  16. ??? says:

    Congrats to the couple.

Norton may be kind of arrogant, but he is intelligent, and I’ll take that over a pompous idiot any day, especially in Hollywood, where the latter abounds — some even getting praised for it.

I appreciate that he’s not a famewhore who needs to strut around on the red carpet and schmooze/kiss ass like some of his industry peers **cough, cough, Clooney**. I like that, lately at least, he’s kept his private life almost entirely private — especially in this day and age when celebs pimp out every last aspect of their personal lives to flesh out their “brand.” To my knowledge, he also devotes himself to his chosen philanthropic causes without using them to bolster his public image, either.

Though it was his choice to covet a mainstream acting career in Hollywood, he may have found the studio system to be full of too many constraints and, quite frankly, too much BS. There’s a way to maneuver through that, and some people are great at it, managing to turn the tables so that they end up having plenty of sway. But, who knows, Norton simply may not be particularly good at playing that game.

P.S. Like someone else mentioned upthread, Shauna Robertson has a legit producing career. Why the condescending quotation marks? From what I have been told about her by friends who still work in the film industry, she’s also apparently a smart woman.

LOVE Edward Norton. Brainy and cute. I just love the intellectual types.

My love for him isn’t as bright as it once was, though, due to the reports of him being so controlling. Still…. *sighs*
