At Saturday’s Nickelodeon Kids Choice Awards, Katy Perry wore Herve Ledger by Max Azria, and she failed to tone down her sex-kitten vibe for the kiddies. This ensemble featured a tight, tight skirt and a halter bra top, which has no business being at this event. This is Katy’s first red carpet appearance since her second breakup with John Mayer, and I imagine she’s showing doucheface exactly what he’s missing. Their latest split took the cover of People, and an insider claims that the breakup was a result of John’s manipulations: “He’s very defensive and comes across as extremely jealous of her career. He’s basically using Katy, who fits into his plan to stay in the spotlight right now.” So basically, he used her to stay in the headlines because he can’t do much singing due to his throat granuloma, and he probably cheated on her too.

But back to Katy’s look. I really think that a bare midriff is a bit too much for a children’s event, and maybe it wouldn’t have looked as extreme on someone else, but Katy’s boobs always take center stage. A bra and a skirt for this event? Inappropriate. Also, Katy took great care to pose seductively, and it all looks very desperate. Katy could have highlighted her gorgeous figure without going to such extremes.

I also never cease to be amazed at how much makeup Katy wears even when going for a “neutral” look.

Selena Gomez looked just right for the occasion in Oscar de la Renta. This soft blue silk peplum top and white linen shorts are very age appropriate for Selena, and the ankle-cuff sandals make the look even more fun. I’m a little bit tired of her obsession with hair extensions because that’s just so much hair, and the effect when combined with Selena’s baby face is a bit bobble-headish. Her makeup looks good though even if the artist got a bit carried away with the undereye concealer.

Poor Ashley Tisdale will never be able to escape her style rut, I’m afraid. She wore a Rafael Cennamo, seafoam-colored dress with an illusion neckline, and the effect is not only slightly ice-capadey but also very dated. Overall, the look is very busy with clashing silver sandals and a copper-toned clutch that easily overpower the dress. The ombre hair doesn’t help much. I’d like to see Ashley go simple for once, you know? Instead, she’s dressing like a continuation of her Sharpay character on High School Musical.

Victoria Justice looked colorful and cute in this Pia Pauro dress. I’m not crazy about the tribal print, but I do like these bright orange Aldo “Alvara” sandals.

Bella Thorne wore a Bec & Bridge silver peplum top over a matching skirt, and she accessorized with neon pinks pumps. If she would have kept it simple, this look would have been great for the occasion, but she added a bizarre, overdone Dannijo necklace with Dannijo earrings that looked like spiders clamped onto her ears.
