Orlando Bloom is ridiculously happy while Miranda ‘loses her wings’: odd?

Orlando Bloom

Yesterday, Kaiser reported that Miranda Kerr had been fired from Victoria’s Secret because of “her “difficult reputation and alleged inability to move product. In absolutely no coincidence at all, these are some photos of Orlando Bloom in Los Angeles at approximately the same time that news broke of his wife’s supposed clipping of angel wings. He looks positively thrilled, right? Perhaps he hadn’t heard the news just yet, or perhaps Orlando was secretly happy because he wants Miranda to stop showing off her rack all the time. Who knows?

Orlando Bloom

Whatever the case, Orlando is gearing up for the lead role in the latest Broadway production of Romeo and Juliet. This looks to be quite the unconventional adaptation since, at age 36, Orlando is a few decades too old to play Romeo, who was a teenager as envisioned by the late (and great) William Shakespeare. Then again, Juliet will be played by Condola Rashad, and director David Leveaux claims that the project has been “conceived with the Capulets as an all-black family and the Montagues as an all-white household.” In that light, I suppose that age doesn’t matter all that much. Oh well.

For what it’s worth in regard to Miranda’s alleged fall from lingerie grace, Ed Razek (president and CMO of VS) has stated (via USA Today) of Miranda that she “is one of the best models in the history of the business — and easily one of the most popular. She is also a consummate professional. Any rumors to the contrary are simply untrue. We have no plans to stop working with her. In fact, I’ve already invited her to walk the runway in this year’s fashion show and, happily, she’s agreed.” Hmm. That doesn’t mean that Orlando wasn’t happy to hear the initial news reports, no? I could be stepping out of bounds here, but it’s possible that Miranda doesn’t keep Orlando appraised of everything in her own professional life. So perhaps he heard the news on the radio, and perhaps he was unavoidably overjoyed. Dude does look good here …. even if he’s fallen prey to the latest trend of overzealously colored running shoes.

*just wanted to swing by and roll my eyes at 36 year old Orlando Bloom playing Romeo*

    • Feebee says:

I’m smiling at the inclusion of “the late” before Shakespeare.

    • Amber says:

It makes no sense. Not only is it going to deal with racial tensions, it’s also going to be contemporary. I can’t see how a modern 26 year old Juliet and a Romeo a decade older than that would have to deal with their parents. Unless they gut the text b/c they also have to manage the kinda’ teen-aged-ness of their emotions which also ties into the rapid pace of the events (roughly five days from Romeo being in love with Rosalind to him being the dead husband of Juliet).

Btw, how many updated versions of this (or any Shakespeare play) do we need? Baz Luhrmann already did it with Angela Chase and Radiohead. I’m pretty sure I’ve seen a much-altered version of Romeo and Juliet + Modern Era + Racism. Yeahhhhh, I think it’s called West Side Story. Hardly an unconventional or unique take on things, now is this? Did I mention Elizabeth Olsen is doing a different production of this off-Broadway, premiering months after this one?

      • T.Fanty says:

I know – because R&J *really* needs another half-assed interpretation, right? I don’t think Baz Luhrmann’s version was perfect, but it was kind of the statement movie for that play. There’s not really anywhere to go from there. And the racism angle is SO cheap.

This might have been a really good idea fifteen years ago (or whenever the first Pirates of the Carribean movie came out), but now it just seems lame. It’s bloody expensive to put up a Broadway show – they should be able to come up with something a little more fresh.

Kerr is one of the best models in the history of the business?! I can think of a loooooooong line of models much better and more memorable than her.

Hell Christy Turlington and Linda Evangelista is get high profile work, and they are in their FOURTIES and look better than Kerr.

Call me if Miranda gets that kind of work at that age, alright?

    • Claudia says:

The CMO meant “one of the best” as it pertains to VS. Were Christy Turlington or Linda Evangelista ever VS models?

      • Littlewood says:

Linda has walked for VS, so has Laeticia Casta, Karen Mulder, Naomie Campbell, Tyra Banks, Helena Christensen, Eva Herzigova, Gisele Bundchen, Karolina Kurkova, Elle Macpherson, Petra Nemcova, Claudia Schiffer, Jessica Seymour and the list goes on and on.

    “Humbled” wife, happy life?

  5. Littlewood says:

The statement from VS sounds an awfully lot like the one they released for Marissa Miller, she was never seen again (dramatic I know). “She’ll always be an Angel to me.” sounds like she has been dumped, they might use her now and again for catalog work and maybe the show but she’s no longer an Angel. Bloom does look awfully happy, when was the last time they’re seen together? There are sightings of him in random bars, shops and gyms on his own almost daily (he went to a charity event alone last night!) and she has been in hiding for days now and awfully quiet, very unlike her (this is a woman who posted topless pictures on her instagram to promote her skincare line), that makes me believe its all true!

  6. Joanna says:

I’m normally not attracted to him, but he looks good here. nice smile

  7. sarah says:

I love it when he smiles. He’s so cute.

  8. Mew says:

He can be happy for 1000 different reasons and not a single one of those reasons need to be his wife losing wings. Maybe he’s smiling because he heard a good song? Or because the sun is shining? Maybe he’s smiling because he just remembered something really funny? Or just because he just felt like smiling? Oh noes, oh noes, he just has to be the evil man who told Kerr to put the clothes on and now is laughing because she lost a contract. Of course.

I hope nobody happens to be smiling at the moment if war starts or baby dies, or something else horrible happens because that’s gonna be on you! You sadistic people enjoying others pain.

    Lord the gossip bs.

Legolas and an Audi. Good morning to me. /kicks feet up.

  12. GoodCapon says:

Does anybody know Miranda’s current gigs? I’m just going by what I’ve read in the comments – she’s been “fired” from VS, David Jones, what else? She’ll be free to pursue other endorsements right?

    • It is ME!! says:

She might have been dropped by Lipton and Samantha Thavasa. She also has gigs with Mango and Qantas.

      • Littlewood says:

And she got the Qantas gig because of David Jones, when they collaborated they decided to use the same ambassador (PR etc). She’s supposed to be there on the 16th for the reveal of their new uniforms, if she’s still with them she’ll show up in Australia soon.

  13. Nev says:

    SWOON.

  14. Lio says:

    He’s adorable!

  15. Tig says:

He is way too old to play Romeo- I agree, what drives the play is the impulsivity of teenage love/lust- and who will buy that from a mid 30yr old man? He is aging well, tho-glad to see that.

  16. Tig says:

    Two more off topic comments:
    (1) does anyone remembering seeing a story where “Endless Love” is being redone?
    (2) is there any news on the screen adaptation of “Me before You”? I read it over this past weekend, and am not over it yet!! What a great book!

Maybe she wants to take time off to have more kids/spend time with her son & husband?
