I totally agree with you. Disneyland is not something I would do but I would be absolutely livid if I saved up, used my vacation time, bought a Disney weekend, took my kids and they were closed.
I have family that are staying at disneyland right now and they weren’t too upset about the inconvenience. It’s annoying though and I understand if you spent all your money to go and you couldn’t ride your favorite rides. Fantasyland is my favorite part of the park so I’d be pissed if I couldn’t go on Peter pan!
They rented Fantasyland for their kids birthday and vow renewal. They had 250 guests attend.Do you have a problem when Disneyland is rented out for Corporate events too? If not what is the difference?
Agreed. These private events must be profitable (otherwise, why would Disneyland offer them), and it’s Disney’s choice to do this.
My mom works at DisneyWorld and I work at Universal. These types of events happens a lot during the slow season, which is going on right now. It’s a great way to bring in revenue during the slow season. We’re in between the Spring Breakers and Summer Vacationers at the moment. It’ll start to get busy again at the end of May beginning of June.
The parks already close early right now. They typically open at about 7-9 and close at about 6-8. That is more than enough time to enjoy the parks during the slow season.
As long as this vow renewal happend after hours then I see no issue with it. They have the money. Right now at Universal we have “grad bash” going on. High school seniors get to play in the parks on certain nights from 7pm-1am. , if they had to close a section of the park early in order to set up then that’s kinda shitty, but Disney and Universal are amazing at turning over for events like this. They have it down to an artform.
I understand what you are saying – I really do. Just for a small bit of clarification – Disneyland in CA has modified hours during the less busy times of the year which is any time other than Summer, Winter or Spring Breaks. On certain days, the park closes early and anyone can rent out the whole park – corporations do it all the time. The hours are generally well broadcast when you buy your tickets so you know if the park closes early on that day or not. Since these photos look at night, I assume this is what they did.
I am not condoning excess, I just really like Disneyland.
I think this is just all media hype so backlash would ensue. I’m sure peasants were not turned away at the gate because the Queen was having her vows renewed. Like you said; she probably reserved it; the same as large Corporations.

Disney doesn’t “turn people away” they’re a business and they’re all about guest comfort. Anyone with enough money can have a private party there and corporate events happen all the time.
A lot of places like that rent out for private events after hours, I don’t have a problem with it.
Now, the endless wedding and renewal ceremonies…whatever makes you happy I guess, but it seems really silly and excessive.

Money can make anything happen. Disney doesn’t exist to make kids wishes come true. It’s there to make money and maybe it’s just good business in case they need her to sing a song for a movie. And Disney sold out. It’s always been about profits.

Agreed. This is excess, but it’s Mimi. I have a soft spot for her. And I think they do it as a party, not to convince anyone of how strong a marriage they have. That seems almost incidental? I love them as a couple and as a family. He’s crazy about her, it’s sweet to see. And she looks as good as she did when I was in high school (20 years ago).

Oh man I knew someone was going to bring up the binkies. My daughter is about to turn 2 and still uses one in the car and at night so I get a little stabby at the “aren’t they too old for binkies” comments.

Aren’t her kids like 3? I’ve always heard 3 is the magic number to be to old for a binky, but there is a world of difference between comfort in a car ride/night time, and what Mariah is doing. The kids are talking with them in constantly through those videos- it has to be affecting their speech.

My son uses a pacifier for bedtimes only (he’s 2 and I’m dreading the day we have to wean him off), but even I hitch up my maternal judging pants when I see a child just casually walking around with one at all times. I don’t know why. I think limited use is okay (the whole reason I gave him one was because it’s supposed to reduce the risk of SIDS) but constant dependence is one of those things best avoided where possible.

I arrived at disneyland for my daughters 6th bday.and we only had a half hour to be in the park because it was being shut down. We were bummed.
I find it hard to sympathize with guests who don’t check the times the parks are open. They make it very clear on their website what time the parks open and close WELL in advance. They know when they’re going to be busy and slow and have planned hours accordingly. However hours can change, but never drastically. The only time parks hours change is if they extend hours (because the park is so crowded) or something huge happens and they have to shut down, which I believe has only happened a handful of times in Disneyland and World’s history (natural disasters and 9/11).
Having said that, I hope she still enjoyed her time there. The next time you go for her birthday (or someone else’s) you should stop by guest services and get a little Happy Birthday Button to wear, they’re really cute 🙂
