Michael Fassbender, Brad Pitt in ‘The Counselor’ teaser: amazing or rough?

Sweet Jesus! Yesterday, the Russian trailer for Ridley Scott’s The Counselor came out, and I was just going to make do with that one, since Michael Fassbender sort of works in Russian (what’s Russian for “sweet Jesus”?). Luckily, I found the trailer in English and mother of God… thank goodness it’s only a teaser trailer, because if it was full length, if it was all long and hard and full-staff, I think I would have wet myself. The Counselor is going to be SO GOOD, y’all. The Counselor is an adaptation of Cormac McCarthy’s book of the same name is an original Cormac McCarthy script. Michael Fassbender is the star, and the cast includes Penelope Cruz, Javier Bardem, Brad Pitt and Cameron Diaz. At one point, Angelina was supposed to have Cameron’s role, I think, but Angelina stepped away and now we have this…

This is going to be one of those movies I will see on opening weekend. I can tell already. You know what’s weird? I’m usually not a big fan of Cormac McCarthy’s books adapted for film. McCarthy’s pacing can be… slow. I think No Country For Old Men worked because it was the Coen Brothers, because they got such a great cast, and because no one wanted to admit that the pacing for that film was really weird. But this looks dark and sexy and seeing Fassy get all emotional at the end… I just want to hold him. And then do him. And then hold him again.

Ridley Scott became a big fan of Fassbender when they worked together on Prometheus, a film that totally sucked. I’m hoping that this film makes up for the suckage that was Prometheus. Please, please, please let this be good. Also: how tight are Brad and Fassy these days? Fassbender said that after they worked together in Inglorious Basterds, Brad talked him up to producers and directors all over Hollywood. Brad’s also in Twelve Years a Slave, and Brad produced it too, because he’s such a big fan of Fassbender and director Steve McQueen.

    Fassbender looks great

  2. Lucretia says:

The film looks amazing, if only for the beauty of the cast. Fassbender looks terrific in this; can’t wait for it.

    • TheOriginalKitten says:

The Film looks sooooo good and these still of Fassy are making me tingly.

“But this looks dark and sexy and seeing Fassy get all emotional at the end… I just want to hold him. And then do him. And then hold him again.”

…’cept you won’t be able to hold him because I’LL be holding him.

      • Aotearovian says:

The beauty of Fassy is that we can all hold him at once. He . . . allows for that.

  3. lisa2 says:

Looking forward to this. It feels like an adult movie. And I like the darkness. October can’t get here soon enough. Hope the actual trailer is released soon.

  4. GiGi says:

One of these things is not like the other *side-eye Cameron Diaz*

This looks soooo good! I’m excited for the full trailer, let alone the whole movie!

    • Holly says:

Exactly! She and Pitt are looking rough and don’t share much talent between them, but her days as a “star” are seriously numbered. Pitt has become Clooney with a bad haircut – over it!

    • Kiki says:

I can’t stand Cameron either but multiple sources have been saying that her performance is amazing in The Counselor, the best she’s been in years if not ever – not sure if I really believe in any of it but it does give me hope!

Anyway, trailer looks amazing, I CAN’T WAIT.

  5. Anna says:

This teaser fails to hook me, mostly bc I have no idea what’s going on, based on just this bit. I watched it right when it popped up in Russian and – even to a native speaker – it made even less sense, bc of some minor idiomatic inconsistencies. Mostly it just shows off all the big names they got for it. I’ll be looking forward to the full-length trailer.

  6. Holly says:

Watching that trailer was like kissing and being slapped in the face simultaneously! Fassy: Yes!Yes! Pitt: No! Penelope: Yes! Cameron: HELL No! Bardem: Yes!

Oh movie people, you don’t need to wedge all that cheese in to get people to see the movie, argh!

  7. screenplay not book says:

There is no book- CM wrote the screenplay (his 1st?). I’m glad Brad is featured so prominently in the trailer- maybe Ridley convinced him to do a little more than the small role he was supposed to do- excellent!

  8. lady mary. says:

the cast looks awesome, especially Penelope and Fassy, will def watch this one

  9. Jess says:

I so want to get excited about this, I loved the book, but I haven’t enjoyed a single Ridley Scott film since Matchstick Men a decade ago. I guess I should just be happy Russell Crowe isn’t in it.

  10. Miss Kiki says:

That header pic, man alive! Pants.Melted.

  11. V4Real says:

I’ll be checking this out. I haven’t read the book but this looks interesting. I don’t mind seeing Pitt and Fassy in another movie together.

    • DreamyK says:

It’s apparently Cormac’s first original screenplay and not based on one of his books. However! He did end up writing the book to tie in with the movie and it comes out in October 2013, which is odd because I think the movie comes out in August?

  12. Maria says:

Michael is the the pulling factor for me.

I don’t care about Diaz, she’s basic to me.

    Looking forward to Cruz tho.

Damn Fassy and his superb talent (and bone structure).

  13. MacScore says:

Have zero idea what this is about, but based on Fassy alone I WILL BE THERE. Bardem is usually excellent when he’s not too off-the’wall (hairstyle in the trailer makes me a teensy bit worried).
Agree the previous post – Brad is getting to be like clooney with a bad haircut.
And yes, didn’t Prometheus SUCKETH???!!! What a massive disappointment. time for Fassy to redeem himself with a good script.

  14. chloe says:

Finally a new Javier movie, this man needs to make more movies, I can’t wait to see this, I love Fassbender and Cameron too!

  15. emmaV1 says:

Sometimes I’m so surprised by how much love Fassbenders gets from his fans…..he’s shown very little box office pull (x-men and Prometheus don’t count) and his acting abilities aren’t very respected by the AMPAS either.

    • drea says:

Among his peers, Fassy’s a mensch. Whenever Cumby or McAvoy talk about the best of their generation, Fassy’s name always comes up.

But to the Academy, I think the stories about his personal life have overshadowed his talent. If he can get his PR under control (he doesn’t even have a publicist), it may just be a matter of time (and good coverage) until he becomes an Oscar favorite. Or he can do a movie for Harvey and that should be sorted.

      • stellalovejoydiver says:

Considering the love for Sean Penn, I doubt his history plays a role. His outstanding perfomances are just not AMPAS material, too gritty.

      • drea says:

That’s true. I’m just going on the stories that came out during the last Oscar voting process, which made it seem that it all really is just a popularity contest.

    • Addison says:

That’s because the AMPAS are a joke. He has gotten a lot of respect from his peers. Those peers that have actually seen his performances rave about him. Brad Pitt believes in the Fassbender/McQueen team so much he financed I think most of another upcoming movie. Twelve Year’s a Slave, look that up. I don’t think Michael cares about being popular. He just loves making films. But he doesn’t take every role that is thrown to him. He is very selective in his roles.

This guy is an awesome actor. If you don’t see it you must be blind or you have horrible taste

  16. Talie says:

I can’t wait to see Cameron Diaz in this… I think she can be a great drama actress. So good in Vanilla Sky.

  17. Deb says:

OMG I can’t wait for this film. Hellooooo Mr. Fassbender.

  18. drea says:

Fassy looks hot. But can I just say that, despite the aging “carb face” and the cheesy Chanel commercial and the questionably artsy stuff he indulges in, this is why I still love Brad. He throws his weight behind great talent and he involves himself in interesting, not-too-mainstream projects (hit or miss, but still).

Supposedly, Cam’s going to be great in this one. And I read that Brad was initially up for Javier’s role. Hmmm. I think we can all agree that it’s a very good thing JB got that role, and that hair.

  19. Chrissy says:

It’s been three years since I’ve felt any tingles for Fassbender. And now, it’s back…

  20. Chicagogurl says:

This is on my must see. I love A list ensembles where everyone pulls their weight which is typical for a Ridley film.

  21. Shelley says:

Wowee…the Fassbender looks yum. I am definitely watchin the movie. I’m off to download the book so that I can read it first….I hope Javier is back to his usual sexiness. I cant stand any of the female cast. Poor actressess allround.

  22. Madpoe says:

    YuM! Fassy-Pitt Sammich!

  23. DreamyK says:

Definitely on my radar to see now.

Is it just me or does it seem sometimes that Brad Pitt sounds like he is reciting his lines more than actually living and breathing them? It’s almost like a kid who is trying to use grown up words and isn’t quite confident with their delivery.

  24. Enzo says:

Cameron is still hot (and a bit crazy:), I am seeing this for sure. Good she took this role, after so many weak comedies

  25. mkyarwood says:

I actually am interested in this Ridley Scott film, but Brad looks/sounds terrible.

  26. zeezee says:

Sorry to Kaiser, but I actually enjoyed Prometheus and i’m looking forward to the sequel more than this film.
But will watch it only because I enjoyed the book.

    • sophie says:

enjoyed the book? there is no book. it’s cormac mccarthy’s first screenplay.
      i liked prometheus too.

  27. Virgilia Coriolanus says:

Awww, that’s so sweet that Brad went and talked the ears off of every producer and director he came into contact with about the Fassdong. I wonder how many established actors in Hollywood would go out of their way to do that, for someone or something that isn’t going to benefit them (that they can see right then and there)…not many, I don’t think.

  28. Eileen says:

This is the movie where Cameron Diaz got to shag Fassbender, in real life as well. There was a blind item about an actress who’s doing every co-star she gets. It must be her! Timberlake, Fassbender and i have the feeling Colin Firth too!

  29. James says:

I’m sorry. I don’t understand the casting of Pitt or Diaz. Both of them are slightly above mediocre, sometimes pulling off their roles and sometimes really floundering. I know Pitt has diehard fans on this site, but it’s the truth. He’s really only as strong as his cast mates. As for Fassy, Penelope, Javier? Excellent.

    • Kim1 says:

Well since Brad produced the film I doubt he was cast he is the boss.As for Fassbender like Channing Tatum I don’t find him attractive

    • I’m a huge fan of Brad Pitt and I think he truly is a great actor (and person). For anyone stationg otherwise I suggest watching him as Tyler Durden in “Fight Club” – perfection.

  30. dizzy says:

    My god, he’s looking good.

  31. Camille (TheOriginal) says:

I saw this yesterday and now I can’t wait to see it! It looks good. I wish AJ had taken CD part, now that would have made for one really hell of a sexy cast.

  32. cocomama419 says:

When I say Javier hair, I just thought “comedy”. So I was surprised when I saw the teaser. It does look really good though.
Just hope Brad Pitts not such a big character. When he not playing a stoner or a himbo he’s just really bad.

  33. Maria says:

O.M.G! The second to the last picture from the movie. O.M.G.

He looks great and some eye candy is much needed in Hollywood that is actually attached to talent. Go Fassbender!

  34. SFRowGuy says:

    Fassy, I licked you. (!)
