Gwyneth Paltrow & her family eat bags of éclairs all the time, Simon Pegg claims

Here are just a couple of new photos of Gwyneth Paltrow at a book signing in NYC yesterday. Fame/Flynet says that Goop “brought along hubby Chris Martin, who stood and glared the whole time she talked.” YIKES. Damn, Chris. If you don’t want to come out to support your wife, don’t do it. But don’t come out begrudgingly and then act like a douche the whole time!

Incidentally, did you know that Simon Pegg is godfather to Goop and Chris’s daughter Apple Martin? Not only that, but Chris is godfather to Simon’s daughter too. Simon talked about his relationship with Gwyneth and Chris:

The British actor Simon Pegg is godfather to Chris Martin and Gwyneth Paltrow’s 9-year-old daughter Apple. In turn, Martin is godfather to Pegg’s 4-year-old daughter Matilda.

It’s been a joy, Pegg tells PEOPLE, but sometimes difficult to reciprocate certain gestures.

“[Chris] sang a song for [Matilda] in Berlin when she was born,” Pegg said, with still-apparent awe, last week at the Los Angeles premiere of his latest film, The World’s End. “He dedicated one of the songs, and I was really chuffed about it.”

And what does Pegg, 43, do for the Paltrow-Martin household?

“Muffins,” he deadpanned. “Any kind of gift basket, maybe some toiletries …”

In fact, food does work, he added. “They eat anything, believe me,” Pegg says with a chuckle. “I go around there with a bag of éclairs every time I see them. They scoff ’em down, and I don’t even get any.”

While being a godfather has been amazing, Pegg adds that fatherhood to Matilda has been the most transformative experience in his life.

“She’s amazing,” he says. “She’s the center of my life, and I value spending time with her more than anything. She’s the best.”

[From People]

The bit about the eclairs is interesting. You would think that Gwyneth would practically need an exorcism after some guest brought a sugary baked good into her home, but I guess not. Anyway, I didn’t know she and Chris were tight with Simon Pegg at all. That seems rather downmarket for Goop, right?

Also, the second trailer for Gwyneth’s new film was just released. This is Thanks For Sharing, with Mark Ruffalo, Pink, Josh Gad and Tim Robbins. This trailer has less Goop than the first trailer and more Ruffalo and more Gad. Which is a good thing.

It;s the other way around. GOOP should be thanking her lucky stars that Simon Pegg is slumming it to be friends with her. Pegg is way too fab for the Martin household.

    • Amelia says:

Never thought I’d say this, but I’m jealous of Goop. I’d do (almost) anything to have a cup of tea with Simon Pegg. What a legend. I’d love to pick his brain about the Cornetto Trilogy.
As for the eclair point, does he mean the pastry or the Cadbury’s sweets? I’m guessing the latter.

      • T.Fanty says:

Have you seen World’s End yet? I haven’t had the opportunity and I’m dying to see it.

      • Sixer says:

I have! I have! I loved it. All my favourites. I might buy Eddie Marsan. Do you think he’d cost much? And fandabbydozy soundtrack.

      • T.Fanty says:

        @Sixer,
I’m up to my eyes in back to school prep, but I might have to find time to sneak off and watch it. The reviews were great.

      • Amelia says:

No, I haven’t! I need to get my priorities straight!
Ooh, I happened to be browsing Youtube yesterday looking for Noel Gallagher covering The Smiths, and found this:
        http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h9RrlXSMkt0
It’s a Comic Relief sketch from the 90’s where Alan Partridge interviews AIDS charity worker ‘Robert’ (Pegg) and Noel Gallagher.
NSFW if you’ve got the sound up.

      • Sixer says:

@ Fanty There are no surprises or anything. It’s just what it says on the Pegg tin. But I find the Pegg tin irresistible. Mind you, I’m not actually sure I know anyone that doesn’t.

        @ Amelia – watching now!

      • RocketMerry says:

I LOVED Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz!
Simon Pegg is a genius. I can’t wait to see The World’s End, but I’m kind of afraid that it won’t be as good as the first two.
I don’t want to be disappointed by Simon. Ever.

      • Louminary says:

If you have not watched ‘Spaced’ yet, please do. The most adorable Pegg ever!

Also the other lead,Daisy (Jessica Hynes) is awesome, so funny. Its so rare you see a female character on a tv show that you can actually relate to!!

    • Sixer says:

I was about to type this:

“Thanks, Kaiser, you’ve put me right off Simon Pegg with this info.”

      Amelia: I think the latter!

    • allons-y alonso says:

What i wouldn’t give to have a beer with Simon Pegg. He’s just so cool.

    • Lucrezia says:

Ah, thank you Amelia! I was totally confused by “bag of eclairs”.

For starters, how many eclairs would there have to be for Pegg not to get a share? Say there were 5 or 6, you’d obviously share them out: one each. There’d have to be a LOT of eclairs for the assumption to be: there’s enough that we don’t have to divide them up equally. (Wait … perhaps my family is unusually aggressive over baked goods???) Anyway, for enough eclairs to share you’d definitely need a box, not a bag.

Cadbury eclairs makes a LOT more sense.

    • Lucrezia says:

FYI – I’m now craving Cadbury’s chocolate eclairs. Difficulty: It’s 8pm and I’m already in my jammies.

I just raided the cupboard for a substitute, and the best I could do was a choc-chip muesli bar. 🙁 Obviously I’m now going to eat the muesli bar, but it’s not the saaame! (*Cries pitifully*)

  2. Anna says:

Sounds like GOOP gave Mr. Pegg all the right soundbites.

  3. Mon says:

That’s probably the only time when this family gets some sweets! The children must love him…

  4. Liv says:

Get off the Hulk, Pepper Potts!

  5. mkyarwood says:

I know a few non eaters who live on cake and tea. They should be called anorexics, but really, they eat SO MUCH CAKE. I don’t think Gwyneth is one of them, but I can see her eating an eclair when the godfather of her kid comes around. I mean, she likes her famous friends.

  6. Luls says:

Wait a second! I thought Goop was Jewish? So how do her kids have godparents?

    #confusedpeasant

    • Renee says:

Goop’s father was Jewish, not her mother, so technically she’s “not Jewish” (I feel so creepy typing this). And her husband is not at all…

  7. ncboudicca says:

    I like Goop’s sundress.

  8. Mandy says:

    GET OFF MY BOYFRIEND, GOOP!

  9. mslewis says:

I would love it if there was a photo of Simon Pegg because I have no clue who he is. He sounds like a wonderful godfather. Gwynnie has said before that Apple and Moses love sweets and she allows them sweets as a treat. This is very normal for a lot of families. In fact, it should be the norm. Children should not eat sweets whenever they want.

    • Louminary says:

Find out who Simon Pegg is now! He’s lovely and hilarious!

    • akua says:

Too restrictive though can backfire. We were very restricted as children and as a result, obsessed about it for so long. With my daughter I always have stuff around, she just has to eat normal meals, etc., before she gets any of it (except on special occasions, or if I’m really sick, lol) And as a result of this, I believe, she’s not obsessed and eats it at a normal, healthy level, without feeling the need to eat the entire package of cookies in one sitting (like me!). I guess this is still restricting it somehow, she doesn’t have free reign, but it has allowed her to put things in balance.

  10. Lucija says:

I get why people dislike Goopy, I do. But Chris? Have you seen him in interviews? He’s so darn sweet and humble and self-deprecating. How can you not like him?

    • Spooks says:

      My thoughts exactly.

      • Diane says:

So Agreed!I just wrote a long bit about that before I saw this…see below it is from very close people that have worked with them and known them for years…they do all love him, loathe her and he wants OUT big time.

  11. mia girl says:

I’m amazed at how Ruffalo’s sexual energy is so powerful that it creates good chemistry with almost any actress he appears with. I mean even he and Goop have a good vibe in this trailer. For me, Goop is one of the least sexy actresses, but his mojo alone projected on to her and kinda had me believing.

    • Apples says:

I thought he was painfully void of charisma in the movie “Just Like Heaven” and have had a grudge against him ever since. If someone remembers you as the weakest link in THAT movie… Well, that’s just sad.

  12. Jazz says:

Love Simon Pegg! The first thing I ever saw him in was Guest House Paradiso. Love Nick Frost as well.

Chris and the kids probably eat the eclairs. I’m guessing not even one grain of sugar has ever passed Gwyneth’s lips.

  13. Shelly says:

I love this dress she’s wearing.

  14. saucy says:

mark ruffalo AND pink are in this movie?? ok, they cancel out goop-its now on my list.

  15. Sugarrbunny says:

I ADORE Simon’s movie ‘Paul’ it’s simply brilliant

  16. Diane says:

She abuses laxatives and starves etc just eats in public for pretend. And Chris is not a “douche”. She is forcing him into going along with her until she ends marriage at best time for her if ever (he is so far ahead of her in popularity respect and wealth) and even using emotional blackmail re: their kids that she has messed up and he is trying to heal. So he has EVERY right to resent her and attending her events. She is cunning and calculating and he is stuck with her and been trying to get out for over 7 years. It will be soon, probably this year. EVERYONE who knows them likes him, loathes her (except for her about 3 equally spoiled brat kids of famous friends). So leave Chris alone, I personally have lost respect for him for giving in to her but he is there for the kids and she swears after LA move (an her 10 year marriage millions from him she will finally let him out – she is a total shrew.

  17. AnnaB says:

FFS, Simon Pegg is joking about the eclairs. He’s being sarcastic.
