Ralph Macchio is supposedly 47, but the guy looks 25

Ralph Macchio

I had to do some careful Wikipedia-ing and IMDB searching, but I have verified that “Karate Kid” star Ralph Macchio is indeed 47. Why in the world am I bringing him up now? Well Ralph’s been at the Slamdance film festival in Utah, which directly competes with the Sundance Film Festival. It’s like Sundance’s offbeat kid brother who’s always poking you while loudly insisting that you come and play in his room instead. Anyway, Ralph is promoting his newest film “Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Undead.” And while we could talk all about the film (who else is tired of Zombies besides me?), what’s most important is that Ralph Macchio looks like he’s still 22. Even Defamer thinks so.

Admittedly, it took a light scolding from a Slamdance rep, who told us, “I thought you guys were champions of the underdog. So how come you’re not showing Slamdance any love? By your lack of coverage, are you suggesting truly independent movies aren’t worthy? We have celebrities too, you know. The Karate Kid and Denise Richards were both in the building!”

Fair enough. And it’s not like we hadn’t taken notice of posters around town touting Rosencrantz & Guildenstern are Undead—the most erudite and Stoppardesque of the handful of zombie movies to invade Park City every season. (At least that’s how we picture it.) It stars none other than beloved Karate Kid and The Outsiders actor Ralph Macchio—who, as you can well see from this high-res photo, could quite possibly be devouring festivalgoer brains in order to retain his impossibly boyish good looks. (He’s—wow!—47.)

As for his take on the Jaden Smith/Jackie Chan-starring Karate Kid remake, he “broke his silence” to MTV Movies Blog, telling them, “‘Listen, here’s my take on it. I think Jaden – you know, Will Smith’s kid – the kid’s got chops. He’s young; he’s like eleven…That story will work forever.'”

Yeah—but how’s he going to look at 47? Exactly.

[From Defamer]

I don’t really care about the other film festival so much. Actually, I probably would, if I weren’t so mesmerized by whatever is going on with Ralph Macchio. I need to know what kind of face cream he uses, or what special diet he’s on. Clearly it stops time. And he’s not like one of those tightly pulled actresses either. You can tell this is just how Macchio’s face looks, and it’s utterly unfair. Enjoy the photographic proof while you shake your fists at the heavens, like I’ve been doing for the last half hour.

Here’s Ralph Macchio at the New York premiere of ‘The Reader’ held at the Ziegfield Theater on December 3rd, and at the 8th Annual “Art of Giving” Benefit at Christie’s in New York City on May 21st. Images thanks to WENN and Images thanks to PR Photos.

Jaybird, let’s not exaggerate. He looks around 37-38. Most Italians age well. Can’t same the same for Scott Baio, though.

  2. Larissa says:

I had a huge crush on him when I was a kid… him and Fred Savage from the Wonder Years, but I just found out I still have a crush on Ralph! Thanks for the post JayBird!

  3. Sauronsarmy says:

He just like Leo dicaprio. No matter how old they get they’ll always have a young boyish face.

  4. jess says:

since 25 is right in my age group…im going out on a limb here to say that he definitely looks like he could be some of my friends father. i can see the 47.

  5. rules says:

He has no wrinkles but he looks as if he hasnt slept in ages!

  6. Ash says:

I would say he looks around 35-37. Ages well.

  7. Aspen says:

Yeah…he’s well-preserved, for sure, but being 34 I can say he doesn’t look younger than me.

A little refresh on the eyes and I would say early 30s. He looks better now then he did when he was 22 frankly.

  11. DLR in Canada says:

Wow, he aged well. He’s still a cute munchkin. 😉

  12. Ter says:

If his eyebrows were less ashey looking and matched his eye color better he would be a straight up 30.

  13. anastasiabeaverhausen says:

As others have said, not 25, but DEFINITELY not 47.

I have that kind of skin. I think it’s just genetics. And for me, staying out of the sun.

  14. Persistent Cat says:

That’s good genes, no sun and not smoking. I never had a crush on him but here, he looks kind of good. Does he have $$$?

  15. Sickitten says:

MSat made me do the open-mouthed drool laugh. Love you!

LMAO!!! What a brilliant line! And Jaybird, I do agree. He is such a (and I am using this word the second time today, which also let me questioning my daily doings…) milksop.

  19. MomInNH says:

If I was single I’d say slide him on a plate so I can sop him up with a biscuit! He definitely doesn’t look his age, but 25 is a little too much. I’d go with the late 30’s. Which is still great considering!

  20. Vixen says:

    Early 30’s

  21. Codzilla says:

I’ve never found him even remotely attractive, but it’s nice to know he’s still alive.

    He’s still hot!

  23. Lila says:

omg, he is still such a cutie!

  24. Kristen says:

Yes, I see him around 34 years young, and still got the good looks, and I still love him, cutie

  25. jordy says:

it cant be that he was like 22 in the karate kid .. baby face , no beard , voice like a 12 year old.. doesnt he have hormones ?

  26. blacksioux says:

LOL. Proof that you can actually look young over 40 without plastic surgery. Ralph is my age, approximately. Well, I’m three years younger, and I also look 10 – 15 years younger than my age. Ethnicity may have something to do with it. Italians tend to look younger longer: the olive complexion probably with more melanin. I am part black/part native american.

  27. Kathi says:

    Kallmann’s Syndrome:
A disease often found in Hollywood actors. It is a condition where a male, usually an actor, does not enter puberty until an extremely late age (after age 25) and is therefore able to portray teenagers well into his 20s.
Aside from Ralph Macchio himself, Max Casella (Vinnie from Doogie Howser,) Leonardo DiCaprio, Macaulay Culkin, and Michael Jackson all suffer from varying degrees of Ralph Macchio Syndrome.

Kallman’s is a rare condition affecting the Hypothalamus, which secretes hormones to the Pituitary gland. The hypothalamus is dysfunctional and cannot secret GnRH to the pituitary gland which, as a result, is unable to send either Lutenising Hormone (LH) or Follicle Simulating Hormone, (FSH) to the ovaries, (women) and testes (men).

Symptoms of undiagnosed KS are: no sense of smell (anosmia), failure to enter puberty, lack of sexual drive and infertility (non-ovulation in women and little or no sperm-count in men). Other symptoms may include mood swings, depression, anxiety, fatigue and insomnia. If undiagnosed, the condition can lead to Osteoporosis in later life.
