I have to take a moment. I find myself becoming a Taylor Swift Apologist. I can’t believe that this is happening. But for whatever reason, I think this week’s press stories about Swifty are rather unfair to her. We all know she’s boy-crazy and she has stalker-eyes and she loves high-drama relationships with unsuitable boys, and then when those relationships end, she writes hit songs about them. But can we take a moment and acknowledge that there are D-list boys who would love to make a name for themselves by dating Swifty? Because I think that’s what’s happening here.
So here’s what happened – Taylor Swift came to TIFF to promote One Chance. She had written some music for the film. She attended the premiere and then she went to some TIFF parties. She ended up spending some time with an actor named Brenton Thwaites. He’s an Aussie, he was in that remake of The Blue Lagoon. Here’s a photo of Brenton:
He looks like an amalgamation of at least three of her ex-boyfriends: Conor Kennedy, Harry Styles and John Mayer. He has her #1 Most Important Boyfriend Feature: Good Hair. But all they really did was talk for a bit, pose for some photos and Taylor worked the room like a pro, talking to other people. Lainey said that Brenton seemed more into Taylor than she was into him. Which is what happens when D-listers want to make a name for themselves by dating Swifty. So now Brenton is trying to really make this happen by creating some drama around the situation, via his “ex-girlfriend”:
Taylor Swift has made a musical career off of getting her heart broken. But now, she’s on the other side of things. After Taylor got cozy with Australian actor Brenton Thwaites at the Toronto International Film Festival on Tuesday night, Brenton’s longtime love, model Jessica Campion, took to her Tumblr to air her own angst about having Taylor snatch up a man with whom she said she had “unfinished business.”
Jessica and Brenton had a long-term relationship in their home country of Australia while Brenton was starring on the Aussie soap, Home and Away, but drifted apart when he left to film Blue Lagoon in 2012. Long distance relationships “never work!” Jessica complained on her Tumblr, but admitted on her blog that she still hoped for a future with her first love.
“You and I will always have unfinished business,” she wrote in a post about Brenton in June 2012, signing off, “Until we meet again Thwaites.”
And in August, she wrote a post seemingly aimed at her departed love.
“Look. I know you’re searching for things,” she wrote. “I hope with all my heart that you find the answers to your questions. But the answers that you’re looking for are closer to you think … right here. At home. In your life you’re going to go to some great places, and you’re going to do some wonderful things. But no matter where you go, or who you become, this place will always be with you.”
But on Wednesday, Jessica found out that Brenton has moved on with Taylor when fans wrote in to her Tumblr page.
“How do you feel about Brenton dating Taylor Swift?” one asked.
Jessica answered, “Didn’t know.”
“Oh sh*t,” one user wrote. “Yeah, everyone’s freaking out about it. I guess Brenton and Taylor had dinner last night after an event. But f**k that, I like him better with you.”
Jessica responded, “I don’t really know what to say” before posting a note from a fan that read, “wouldn’t b surprised if [he] gets a song after hanging out with her [before] 2 long”
“Hopefully Taylor Swift fans don’t start bothering you,” Jessica posted from a fan, before answering, “I’ll be fine.”
However, after that note she posted “Worst. day. ever.” and reposted a note from a fan who wrote, “don’t worry about it. her music is sh*t anyway … and you’re prettier.”
Ironically, Jessica admitted, “I actually own most of her music.”
Taylor and Brenton’s chemistry shocked guests at the Grey Goose Soho House in Toronto Tuesday night.
“I find myself hypnotized at the sight of these two fresh-faced young stars … hitting it off as there’s no one in the room,” a reporter for Nuvo magazine wrote of the event.
“Swift doesn’t so much as flirt; it’s more like she sets the other person on fire. When she makes eye contact, it’s like locking eyes with a real arctic fox. Sheer magnetism. With sly, coquettish language, she draws Thwaites closer by speaking in hushed tones.”
Why is Taylor even being brought into this stupid drama? Whatever Jessica had with Brenton, it’s between them. Taylor didn’t “steal” anyone – she talked to him, flirted with him, etc. That being said, this should work like magic on her. She loves the drama. Now if she finds out that Brenton has drama with an ex, she’ll feed on it and want him even more.

Unless said boy ASKED her to write the messages, thus immediately raising name recognition for himself AND the model. I love conspiracies like this…esp when it’s so plausible.
I’m not sure he needs that? He’ll be playing The Prince in Angelina’s Maleficent movie, and he’s also the star of The Giver with Jeff Bridges, so, his careers seems to be going fine….
On the one hand we have a global megastar, on the other – some pretty boy soap actor billed 8th (per IMDB) in a Jolie movie that’s not out for another year, and whose name nobody knew till this week. Yup, I’d say he does.

Perhaps that’s the problem….she never went through that high school phase (and college phase) of development so she’s stuck at 16 years old.

Swift doesn’t bug me. She’s an attractive young woman living her life and doing well without licking sledgehammers and hanging with Terry Richardson, and she doesn’t have her tongue hanging out 24/7.
Yes. I can’t imagine a parent allowing a daughter to see Miley in concert. But a Taylor Swift concert is perfectly safe and acceptable for younger girls.

That Tumblr chick sounds like a 12 year old, complaining on social media about a guy that she has not dated for a year and a girl he talked to at a party. Good grief, girly, grow up. Taylor certainly didn’t “steal” him if he has been broken up with Tumblr girl for over a year; not to mention Taylor didn’t “steal” him if she merely talked to him for a few minutes at a party with no follow up.
I almost feel bad for Swifty getting mixed up in this. This is some middle school crap.
Brenton is NOT D-list go look at his projects. I think Taylor is able to grab a guy’s attention but than becomes obssesive about said guy.

I’m there with you Kaiser. I’m also apologist for Taylor but probably for different reasons. Taylor was never on my radar up until this year. But I wondered why there was so much hate thrown her way.
I listened to the media.. that all she writes is break-up songs. Then I started listening to her music and realized 20% of her songs are about break-ups (if that).
She’s an awesome songwriter. A Billboard Music critic said “if her audience were 20 and 30 something year olds she would be considered one the best songwriters this generation”… I agree.
Then I realized Taylor is savvy when it comes to her relationships. Three of which she dated as a teenager.
Joe Jonas- was the more famous one when they dated and now he’s a footnote having to use her name to get some press.
Taylor Lautner- Was hot coming from the Twilight Trilogy. The guy can’t open a movie to save his life.
Jake Gyllenhal- Was supposedly the next Big Leading Man in HW ..Lot’s of Press for dating Reese Witherspoon. IDK, but does he still make movies? Haven’t heard anything about him or his movies in ages.
John Mayer- Only gets press for who’s he dating.. Not his music.. No longer a platinum selling artist.
Harry- the Jury is still out on him. But, considering he’s in a boy band ..the clock is ticking. He’s doesn’t seem to have the talent to break-out like Justin T or Michael Jackson.
I wondered if Carly Simon got some hate for writing “You’re So Vain”. I believe many thought was about Mick Jagger.
Kanye- Although they didn’t date, Karma is a B**ch. Stuck with the Kadashians and his recent album flopped big time.
Yet Tay- Tay is getting more popular each year. Breaking Guinness world records. Selling over a Million Cd’s in a week, two years in a row. Selling out Stadiums and Arenas. Has one of the top Grossing tours this year. According to Forbes, made $57 million last year.
Her Interview with the Hens on “The View” several months ago is hilarious. She came off smart, witty, articulate. It’s on Youtube if any one is interested.

I don’t like Beyoncé based on her music and interviews but, I do like Rihanna for the same reason. Miley doesn’t bother me cuz I just don’t care.

For at least 2 years my daughter has called Swifty “Squinty Ferret.” Daughter is now 9.
I asked what she meant by that and she said, as if I should already know, “She’s not honest, Mama!”
