I was going to make a joke about Nicole Kidman’s lips being so insane these days that they cause men to simply fall over and hurt themselves, but on second thought… no. What happened yesterday at NYFW was not Nicole’s fault in the least. Nicole attended the Calvin Klein show yesterday, gamely posing for photos going in and coming out of the event. Then, once the show was over, she got into a car and headed back to her hotel.
So, as she was coming back, this paparazzo was so enchanted by Nicole that even though she had JUST POSED for photos outside of the Calvin Klein event, he had to get more photos of her entering her hotel, The Carlyle. So the paparazzo raced her to her hotel. He was on his bike and he was riding recklessly. So when Nicole got out of her car and began walking the few steps to the hotel entrance, the pap tried to pass Nicole, instead crashing into her. She was knocked to the ground, and he was too. She was just steps away from the hotel entrance, and Fame/Flynet says: “Pictures capture the tense moments after the accident, where assistants lifted Kidman to her feet and helped her as she put her heels back on before she was quickly ushered inside. The embarrassed photog lay stunned on the ground as hotel staff tried to assess the awkward situation.”
I would have been so pissed off. Us Weekly says that Nicole was overheard saying “Oh my God, ow, ow.” Witnesses say it didn’t seem like she was bleeding, but everyone expects her to press charges against the pap – his name is Carl Wu. In Wu’s defense (eh), witnesses claim that it seemed like he was trying to brake for Nicole but the “brakes on his bike completely gave out and he lost control.” Here’s what I don’t get though: what is the significance of getting more photos of Nicole entering her hotel when the paparazzi JUST got photos of her in the same outfit at the Calvin Klein show?
PS… Nicole has a new haircut. The bob is very cute on her. I like it.

I read that this was the same pap who got into an altercation over Lady Gaga snaps a few years back. Apparently, a 16 year old Wu was swearing and flashing his bulbs in her face, trying to get a rise out of her, and her bodyguard tackled his ass, pinning Wu to the ground until security arrived. He claims at he was being peaceful and respectful.
I may have beat him down further with the heel in my hand. How startling would being hit by a bike be?!
Not to mention incredibly painful to have someone ride their METAL BIKE into you at a fast speed. It would have hurt like hell.

That’s what I was going to say. I hate cyclists who want the road but don’t want to obey the laws of it. Then, they’d also like the sidewalk and the people on foot better watch out. Assholes!
+1. Where I live, there are narrow, winding uphill roads and cyclists are so inconsiderate. You can’t safely pass them because of oncoming traffic, and so you have to spend 20 minutes going 5 miles an hour. They don’t make any attempt to move over so you can pass them. In the city, they are worse, cutting in and out of traffic and riding on the sidewalk. I wish traffic cops would give them tickets for recklessness. I love to ride my bike, but I try to be aware of the fact that I’m not the only person using the road.
Absolutely agree. It’s tricky passing a cyclist. You want to leave enough room in case they swerve or drift too. Or at least I do. And for that matter same for walkers and runners. Single file people!
Also, guy was so in the wrong and Nicole looks nice. I’m loving those earrings!

Question for any NY’ers; does the law require you to wear a helmet on a bike? I’ve never understood why some people don’t.
Only children are required to wear helmets by law; adults are strongly encouraged. It is, however, illegal to ride on the sidewalk.
Where I am now (Connecticut) ther aren’t even any motorcycle helmet laws, which shocked the hell out of me. I see numerous jackasses riding on the highway at 70 MPH with no helmet. Ugh, the stupidity!
Since she’s not seriously injured… let’s make fun of her botox. The pics from the front show that during the entire episode her facial expression changed not one bit. That must be some long lasting Botox she “tried one time” – her face is crazy frozen!

Usually, I’m of the mind that the paparazzi come with the territory for stars. I look at gossip websites (like this one) and it’s from those guys that these sites get their pics. However, it’s always disturbing when the paparazzi cross the line and it really illustrates how over the line they already are, actually.

It was an accident… It looked pretty bad from the photos. One thing about Nichol, she fell gracefully! The guy needs to be more carrful, this could have a disaster.
I love Nicole’s acting, though personally I think she’s beyoch in real life (a friend of a friend works for Keith in Nashville and says she’s constantly on his azz) but it still doesn’t make a it right for the paparazzo to do this, not only did he nail her but a lot of bystanders on the sidewalk, I hope she does sue. Does anyone else think she’s wearing a wig, I was looking at the pictures of her and Skarsgard on another site and it looked cockeyed.

To answer the question about why he’d try to get more photos after she just posed at the event…A slew of photogs got pics at the event, so those pics won’t be worth as much. If there are only a few pics at the hotel, those could get a higher price. The irony is that while this a-hole was on the ground dealing with security, the nearby photogs that weren’t obnoxious got the shots of the whole thing that wound up being worth more than any taken that day.

This incident gave me a new appreciation for Nicole. She could have gone ballistic and it would have been justified. She kept it cool in public and pulled herself together. Nice.

It could have been someone, famous or not, with a snuggli or a stroller or even leading a child by the hand. Or it could have been a fragile elderly person or something. That guy was a douchebomb.

Time to change the laws about how close the paparazzi should be allowed to come next to a celebrity. Just how hurt does one have to get before the pap is arrested? He was being reckless and could have really hurt her. I tripped last year and fcuked up my face. I had to see a plastic surgeon every other day for two months I still have to see him every month. I totally agree with you. We don’t know how bad she was hurt. In some photos it looks like she twisted her ankle as she fell. I know she has had issues with her knees in the past as well. She had to stop long distance running because of it. The paps here go too far and there needs to be some laws in place. I think she looks fantastic.
