Jude Law is injured and too tall

Doesn’t it feel like Guy Ritchie, Jude Law and Robert Downey Jr. have been filming that Sherlock Holmes movie forever? It’s like the never-ending film production. The latest gossip out of the production is that Jude Law is too tall compared to Robert Downey Jr. (what?). So director Guy Ritchie made Downey put on some kind shoe-lifts. Downey is the one playing Sherlock Holmes, and Law is playing Dr. Watson. What’s weird is that even in his best, sexiest roles (The Talented Mr. Ripley), Jude Law looks like a stiff wind could knock him over, he’s so small. So how big is Downey?

Filmmaker Guy Ritchie has given Robert Downey Jr. a boost!

The director has asked Downey Jr., who plays the iconic detective in the movie Sherlock Holmes, to wear a pair of four-inch platforms in his shoes – in a bid to raise him up to co-star Jude Law’s level, reports British newspaper The Sun.

Ritchie has ruled that the actor must wear the lifts in every scene he shares with Law, who plays Holmes’ sidekick Dr Watson – so that the sleuths are the same height.

A source tells the tabloid, “Rob is stumbling around a lot and cursing Guy over the silly shoes.”

[From hollywood.comActor Jude Law is recovering well after he damaged his neck during a gruelling work-out.

The Alfie star was pictured out and about in New York last week sporting a neck brace, but the reason behind the injury remained a mystery.

Now the riddle has been solved – the Brit damaged himself by working out too hard in the gym.

Law’s spokesperson tells New York gossip column PageSix.com, “He tweaked his neck working out and only had a brace on for a few days. He is fine now.”

Maybe he was straining his neck to check out the latest nanny? Or maybe he hurt it looking down on an American actor playing an iconic British character? That’s all I’ve got, those two jokes. But I still say Downey is bigger.

Here’s Jude and Robert on the Sherlock Holmes set in December and January. Images thanks to WENN.

Still can’t wait to see this movie! Downey is getting better and better in my book!

  2. Syko says:

According to IMDb, Jude Law is 5’10 1/2″ and Robert Downey Jr. is 5’9″. Who knew they were so teeny?

  3. blaugrau says:

I’ve always thought RDJ is small, so I’m not surprised at all. Am I the only one?

  4. Judy says:

He played Charlie Chaplin and CC was a very small man..but 5’9 and 5’10 is NOT teeny for cripes sakes..average height for men is 5’8 these days.

  5. Ling says:

I’ve seen Law in person and he is tall, he’s just so wispy. He looks like a 10 year old boy who grew up and not out. RDJ seems about 5.5 feet, judging by his scenes with Gwyneth Paltrow in Iron Man.

  6. jill says:

    you forgot “and a douche”

  7. tigerlille says:

Hmmm… I placed Rob at 5 foot 9 inches, and Jude at 5 foot 6 inches… I am amazed to learn that Jude is 1 1/2 inches taller, but that still doesn’t explain why Rob has to wear 4 inch lifts! That’s the equivalent of putting Rob in high heels Rob is such a fine actor, I don’t think Richie should be fussing about his height. I guess he isn’t cover boy material, but I have always had a huge crush on Rob.

  8. TinaWithPom says:

I saw Jude Law outside of NBC’s The Late Show (he even stopped to give autographs to a couple of people… *smile*). I agree with Ling. Jude Law is a wisp of a man: willowy, tall, delicate features and hands, with a very narrow and svelte build. Like an angel-faced little boy who grew up but didn’t exactly turn into an adult.

Love Jude Law. Love Robert Downey Jr. Can’t wait for the movie to come out.

  9. Ally says:

Sherlock Holmes is supposed to be tall and skinny, while Watson is shorter and stockier. So Downey has to look taller than the apparently naturally taller Law.

Sounds to me like someone (um, Mr. Ritchie) needs to retake the Casting 101 class.

    • Abbs says:

Not at all. In the actual stories by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, Watson was NOT a bumbling, short, fat man–contrary to cinematic depictions of him. He was actually very athletic, was a war hero, and was much more in appearance like Jude Law than the other movie or t.v. incarnations of Watson. Law is pretty much a dead-on representation of the actual description of Watson.

  10. Carena says:

It seems that most actors are short. Maybe they don’t want a big height difference between the women and the men…easier for filming??

Maybe I just grew up in a tall family and don’t really know what average height is. I’m a 5’9″ woman (an inch taller than the male average) and my brothers and male cousins are all well over 6′ tall. My fiance is 6′ and is usually the shortest guy in the room.

  11. Syko says:

Same here, Carena, I’m 5’9″ so a man the same height is not above average in my mind.

  12. spiceee says:

I’m 5’0 and my boyfriend is 6’2″. When my girlfriends first found out what a difference in height between us, one of them just started to laugh and blurted out “you guys must look so retarded together.” I was speechless.

  13. Leandra says:

Jude Law is so not attractive. I saw him in that movie The Holiday with Cameron Diaz and he looked out of proportion. Great big head, tiny little body you could almost spit through and when he turned sideways he was about as thick as a knife.

  14. Laura says:

Just because RDJ is the lead, he has to appear the tallest? Why?

  15. sheryl says:

Well, let’s see…in pictures of Jude and Downey together, Jude is obviously taller. In I Heart Huckabees, he was taller than Wahlberg, Schwartzman, Hoffman, everybody, except the African Guy. In Ripley, he was slightly taller than Damon. As far as the 4-inch heels for Downey story though, I think it’s one of those exaggerated things that’s circulated the internet and been blown out of proportion. Good thing Celebitchy picked it up, though…whew, wouldn’t want to miss out on THAT piece of news. Oh, and the nanny jokes just never get old or tired….really….just..NEVER.

  16. angie says:

I love Jude! Absolutely a gorgeous man!

  17. janey says:

    Jude Law is balding.

  18. sheryl says:

Did you have a point, Janey?

  19. Bodhi says:

I can’t wait to see this! If it ever comes out, that is…

  20. Deanna says:

Enough with the ^%*&%* nanny crap. It was years ago and no one cares. Seeing what kind of person Sienna turned out to be, who could blame him. She is a cold-hearted beyotche.

I am dying for this movie to come out!

    • Abbs says:

THANK YOU!! That makes you one of like, 2 intelligent people in the universe who seem to know the truth about her. I’ve said that all along–Miller has always been a ho who was banging everything else that moved BEFORE the nanny thing, while she was engaged to Jude. She’s just a nasty person and an attention seeker trying to play the eternal “victim”. RIGHT. You’re correct–she never deserved Jude and she never treated him right. People SERIOUSLY need to get over her.

  21. KDRockstar says:

If you believe what is put out on the actor database, then Tom Cruise is 5’9. Just sayin’.

  22. jill says:

    Jude you rock !

As for contactmusic.com, Your jokes are
    lame and sooo 2004.

  23. sheryl says:

It’s not hard to find on the internet pics of Jude and Robert standing or walking together…and Jude is obviously taller, no question. They are not the same height. Having said that, I don’t give a crap if Watson is taller than Sherlock…it’s not like it’s going to ruin a storyline. And I quite doubt 4-inch heels were needed to make up the difference. Just more made-up crap that gets repeated as though it’s truth…but that’s the internet for you.
Bodhi, release date as of right now is November 13.

  24. dolorescraeg says:

this is wonderful casting and being a huge jude law fan i can’t wait for this film. the person who didn’t find jude gorgeous in the holiday needs to run, not walk to the nearest opthomologist.

  25. KeriBear says:

    Jude Law is gorgeous.

I also saw him in person a while ago, in Toronto close by my office; he was there filming some sci-fi movie with Forrest Whittaker; and agreed, he is of very slight build, even while wearing a bullet proof vest!

but still, gorgeous face, don’t care!
