Sarah Jessica Parker’s marriage is fine, so stop asking

Sarah Jessica Parker and Matthew Broderick attended a play last night, and they wanted to make sure everyone got the message. The message: we’re fine, our marriage is fine, so stop asking. They held hands and cuddled for the photographers’ lenses, and SJP even talked to People magazine about their “date night” and about the rumored Sex and the City sequel. Parker says that she’s heard the rumors, but basically SATC fans shouldn’t believe everything they read.

Sarah Jessica Parker and husband Matthew Broderick know how to mix business and love.

On Thursday night, they turned a visit to Broadway into a romantic evening – complete with hand holding and downplaying rumors that their marriage is in trouble.

After watching The American Plan, a play starring Mercedes Ruehl and Lily Rabe, Parker told PEOPLE, “This is date night. It was really lovely.”

Parker, looking divine in a polka dot dress, white coat and spiky black heels, also gracefully addressed recent reports that she and Broderick were close to splitting. “We don’t even bother to address them,” Parker told reporters, adding that the best part of being married is “being married.”

Defending their relationship wasn’t the only thing on their minds, however.

The couple attended the play to support the director David Grindley, who will begin rehearsals for The Philanthropist, another Broadway play, with Broderick in six weeks.

As for the news that a sequel to Parker’s hit movie Sex and the City is a done deal, Parker coyly told PEOPLE, “that’s what I’ve heard but I wouldn’t say that is the most official thing you’ll ever read.”

[From People]

Their marriage is none of my business and I feel dirty even thinking about all of the nasty rumors about Broderick and the state of their affairs. I can totally see why they did this photo-op, but I don’t think it will stop the rumors. If the SATC movie sequel does go through, that means even more publicity and even more rumors. Could it be that they’re just a simple New York couple with a fondness for theatre? More than likely.

He’s getting that ‘gnaw my leg off to get out’ look in his eyes.

  2. guest says:

he looks like a little old man.

  3. Judy says:

He better wisw up because he is not going to find anyone to support him as well as she does. He would have to get a job if she left him.

  4. Ter says:

Am I to assume they have started selling swamp land in Florida?

  5. lilme says:

If they don’t appear together – people will whisper about them. If they do go out together – people will whisper about them. They can’t win either way so it seems not bothering to comment on the rumors has been a good plan.

And, geez, lay off the way MB looks…he is almost 50.

  6. Ned says:

Why are they doing this photo op?

If everything is fine, so why do you care if people are talking, and if things are going south, than no photo op will save your marriage.

I would start with checking why didn’t he deny the claim that he cheated.

    Just like Eva Langoria’s husband.
Saying you care for your wife, is not really a response when a woman claims you had sex with her.

If you didn’t cheat- they first place to go is to deny any claim to the contrary.
IF you don’t deny- people will assume it was the truth.

  7. RAN says:

I had sex with Matthew Broderick

****Patiently waiting for him to deny it now, just to prove it’s not true****

Fact is, if I attempted to deny everything that was said about me in my life, someone might use the phrase “thou doth protest too much”. I agree with whomever said they can’t win either way.

Leave them alone, I like them both – he’s my Ferris, she’s my Carrie, the very fact that these two ever got together is beyond me, but now that they have several years of marriage under their belt, and a child, they deserve their personal business be kept personal.

“If you don’t deny- people will assume it was the truth.” Well, you think so, but not everybody. If you deny, there are enough people saying “why is he/she so eager to adress this? Something’s cooking.” A typical lose-lose situation.

  9. geronimo says:

Whatever. They don’t make their business public, they’re not attention seekers, and they deserve to be able to sort out any problems they might have in private.

  10. Ned says:

RAN- if you came out as someone who worked with him, and claimed in detail that you slept with him and it was true that you had worked with him and seen with him-
as in the case of Tony Parker, and in this case)- than it’s a complete different story, than some anonymous person who never worked with him- said.

However, it is true that they are not attention seekers, and never used their child or private life to advance their careers- so they deserve to be left alone to figure things out.

Of course their marriage is fine. She gets lots shiny apples and carrots and sugar cubes, and daily turn out.

  12. PJ says:

SJP and MB do like theater. Both of them spent a good portion of their careers in the theater.

  13. snappyfish says:

As a horse owner, I am personally offended by comments that SJP looks like a horse.

Horses are gorgeous. SJP….not. She is quite fashionable and can look lovely, but never in her wildest dreams would she be a beautiful as a horse.

(but did think the apples and turn-out comment was stellar!!)

OMG, Baho! My eyes are now filled with tears of mirth. 🙂
    Great post.

  15. mike skoop says:

That’s what Madonna and Guy Ritchie kept saying too: “Nothing to see here. Everything is fine.” And then POW! BAM! It’s over.

  16. czarina says:

Yes, but Madonna and Guy Ritchie said that while being restrained in hand cuffs and forced into separate police vehicles with Madonna screaming “I want my red kabbalah bracelet back, you emotionally retarded SOB!!”
So, that led people to suspect that perhaps thier marriage WAS in trouble…

    Baholicious –

FAB-U-LOUS. That was so freaking funny, I loved it! It’s true…. hee hee hee, too funny.

  18. Lila says:

I agree that he’s our Ferris and she’s our Carrie and that their business is their business. I also agree that they look terribly uncomfortable, but then who wouldn’t, under these circumstances.

  19. Boredofthis says:

I think the media is turning this into a photo op. It wasn’t some outing simply for the photogs to take pictures of them. They went to a premiere of a play where other attendees were also photographed. A play that happens to be directed by the person who will be directing Matthew in a few months. What’s the big deal?!?
