Jennifer Lopez: ‘There’s nothing wrong with me or my shape or who I am’

jlo2

Jennifer Lopez covers the new issue of Cosmopolitan for Latinas. I don’t hate the wild, teased-up hair – I prefer Jennifer (and most women) with big hair as opposed to the ever-popular Croydon facelift look, a look which Jennifer does too often. The dress is another story – so tacky. I wish she would refuse to consent to being styled like a budget Vegas showgirl. As for the quotes…

Were there any Latinos who inspired you growing up?
“I was really moved watching West Side Story as a young girl and seeing Puerto Ricans star in it. Even though it wasn’t the best depiction of us, they still have the passion and love that I relate to – not to mention the singing and dancing! Rita Moreno became a hero to me.”

You’ve always been proud of your body. So no struggles with insecurity?
“Early on, my family really made me love who I was and what I looked like. My body was nothing out of the ordinary in my neighborhood. When I first started on television [as a Fly Girl on In Living Color], people, and even my own manager at the time, would tell me I had to make all of these changes. But you have to stand up and say, ‘There’s nothing wrong with me or my shape or who I am, you’re the one with the problem!’ And when you can really believe that, all of a sudden other people start believing too.”

The best part of being Latina?
“I love the family that I grew up in, the strength and passion and the heart that we bring to things and then the way I was raised – the intense love we demonstrate.”

How do you do it all?
“One day somebody told me I had to perform in front of 35,000 people on the set of Selena. I didn’t know how to do it. I just said to myself: Don’t think about it. You can do this and you’ll be great. I walked out onto that stage. And then I did. I’ve been following that rule ever since.”

[From Cosmo for Latinas]

In her Fly Girl days, Jennifer was a bit rounder – nothing major, just some youthful puppy fat. But go back and look at her figure from her earliest days – she’s always had this figure. She’s always been “La Guitarra” (because her curves mimic a guitar body). Personally, I have no shade for how she flaunts her booty or dresses to maximize her shape. I think it’s great. Also: Rita Moreno is a queen. J.Lo wishes!

JLo looks great. Love the big hair and kicky outfit and especially the big, bright smile.

  2. LB says:

Her body is the body I aspire to have. I am naturally curvy. There’s no way I could ever be stick thin like most celebrities at present.

I don’t always like jLo but I do like that she always resisted the pressure to change her body type significantly (I like a big, natural booty – sorry Kim K, I said natural).

    • Anna says:

Hahaha did you see Wendy Williams talk about Kim’s fake butt a few days ago? It’s on youtube. I cried!!!

    • Liv says:

Yeah, I do too. I will always have much ass, no matter how much weight I’d lose. It’s nice to see someone who’s proud of it.

      • Kate says:

no matter how much weight I lose I’ll always have hips and thighs. used to hate it now I embrace it

  3. Lindy79 says:

Agree on the body..she could do with changing the personality though.

  4. Daaahling says:

I have only read one issue of Cosmo Latina and it was so stereotypical and offensive. I’m shocked the magazine managed to collect an interview from an A-lister like her. That said, Jennifer Lopez needs to start noticing that alllllll her interviews are about love and fashion. Love. Or fashion. Is she that shallow? And to the interviewers asking her the same things, think outside the box. I want to like J Lo again…..

    • Lilyvanilli says:

      That shallow I’m afraid.

    • TheOneandOnlyOnly says:

Yes she’s that shallow and uninteresting; oh, for the cosmo’s of the 80s/90s when they had supermodels on the cover and HGB running the show; this bland twit wouldn’t have made the cut.
Btw, Jlo shouldn’t even be mentioned in the same sentence with Rita Moreno.

  5. hadleyb says:

She looks great but her boobs look bigger after losing baby fat, and those cheeks, put down the syringe JLo.

Let’s not pretend she is all natural. She isn’t.

She has been doing things for a long time, just nothing in your face a whole face work up ala Madonna at age 46.

    • Belle Epoch says:

There’s something weird about saying “I’m fine the way I am” and then being PhotoShopped and tweaked A LOT. If there is nothing wrong, then why not show people what you really look like? I’d like to see the actual photos from this shoot. I bet she looks pretty amazing, but has some natural lumps and bumps and cellulite that she will NEVER acknowledge.

  6. Val says:

I wish I could have her figure now and I haven’t birthed out twins!

  7. Jacqueline says:

I don’t shade her figure at all. She looks incredible, especially her someone her age. However, I think it’s still time to do away with the belly-outfits and the skimpier formal looks she wears. There is just a time when you can do all of that PLUS age-appropriate. Again, not to shade the body, it just starts to reek of desperation when you are 50-something (a la Madonna)

  8. bettyrose says:

Amazing bod but the length of that dress kinda bugs me. Any child walking by is about to get an anatomy lesson.

  9. Eleonor says:

It’s your taste in men which is awful.

  10. AlmondJoy says:

Youthful puppy fat? I disagree. She’s always had an amazing figure, nothing fat about it.

  11. Megan says:

have to give her credit where credit is due and she is right. She has a great figure and is beautiful. She was right those that told her to change had the problem not her.

  12. drea says:

Oh Kaiser, JLo doesn’t wear anything or get styled in any way she doesn’t approve. She’s one of the true blue, control freak, diva types. She looks quite tacky here, but I’ve seen her in worse. It’s possible she actually owns that dress.

    • Mean Hannah says:

She absolutely does approve all styling, photos, covers, photoshop, etc. She is a diva, but having heard from people who have worked her, they say she’s also a true professional, and prompt with approvals, unlike other stars who take their time and don’t care about other people’s deadlines.

  13. Jaded says:

Great body, beautiful face, horrible person.

  14. JenniferJustice says:

So, she must mean that she’s okay with herself and her body NOW, because girl has had more nose jobs than can be counted, breast implants, lip injections, you name it. Hate when these stupid womean talk like we’re all stupid and don’t know. Take a look at her when she was a fly girl. They don’t even look like the same person.

  15. Nimbolicious says:

I just read an interesting blind item about someone who sounds an awful lot like J-Lo. If it is her, then there may be some serious other (potentially career-busting) fakery going on besides whatever it is she does to her body or her photos . . . .
