Lady Gaga’s ‘living statue’ costume took a lot of effort: amazing or crazy?

I don’t mind saying it. I think this might be Lady Gaga’s best costume so far. Usually, I find Lady Gaga’s “crazy” getups to be try-hard, budget and basic. I remember when she used to really TRY to be weird and fun, like the time that she wore a coat made of Kermit the Frogs. But for the past few years, Gaga’s fun has been replaced by Gaga taking herself way too seriously, like she’s saving the world one Madonna-esque pop song at a time. Her costumes reflect that too. But as I said, I kind of like this one. It’s a lot of “look”. She looks like a statue come to life. And I kind of dig it.

So, what else does Gaga have going on? There’s still the long-simmering feud between Kelly Osbourne and Gaga, and the feud took a weird turn over the weekend. Since I find Kelly O. just as annoying as Gaga, I’ll let Us Weekly explain this mess:

Trick or Tweet? It looks like Kelly Osbourne does not want a slice of Lady Gaga’s cake. The stylish E! staple is simply fuming after the “Applause” singer presented her with a sweet peace offering– received indirectly through the birthday girl’s also-famous mom.

Gaga, 27, made an appearance Sunday, Oct. 27 on The X Factor UK, where she presented judge Sharon Osbourne with a cake to celebrate daughter Kelly’s 29th birthday, which falls on that same day. The gesture, however, was sorely received. “Not to be ungrateful but why would you send me a birthday cake via my MOTHER in a country half the [world] away? #JustSendItToME #LoveNotWar,” Kelly retorted on Twitter to her 3 million plus followers.

Osbourne then posted a photo of the cake to her Instagram with the hashtags #EatMySh-t #Hypocrisy.”

Gaga, in response to Kelly, tweeted her directly, “I didn’t know it was your B-day until this afternoon. Meant as a peace offering. Happy Birthday.” With it, the “Do What You Want” crooner attached an image of her holding the offending confection with Kelly’s mum, 61. Kelly’s scatological response then sparked Gaga’s monsters to unleash their fury on the birthday girl, which lead the artist to plead, “Monsters, please just focus on the positive of tonight’s performance and do not send any hateful messages. I don’t support it. #SpreadLove.”
Minutes later, Kelly sniped, “#StefaniStopIt!” and “I live for a #Cause not for the #Applause!!!!!!!” (Gaga’s name is Stefani Germanotta.)

This is not Lady Gaga and Kelly Osbourne’s first public spat. Their ongoing feud actually dates back to 2009 to when Osbourne called Gaga a “butterface.” The comment moved Gaga’s fans to respond with some vile suggestions for the television host. “They’ve said I should kill myself, that they hoped I get raped. I mean it’s crazy but I’ve had this all my life and I just try and ignore it,” said Osbourne to British publication, Fabulous, in its January issue on Gaga’s monsters commenting on her weight and image.

In January, the singer penned an open letter directed at the daughter of Ozzy and Sharon Osbourne for Kelly’s role as a critic on E!’s Fashion Police. “I have empathy for you Kelly, but I feel it culturally important to note that you have chosen a less compassionate path,” wrote Gaga. “Your work on E! with the Fashion Police is rooted in criticism, judgment, and rating people’s beauty against one another.” Gaga’s public penmanship, however, was ill-received by mama Osbourne, who slammed the singer in her own open letter via Facebook, accusing Gaga of bullying her daughter.

“You know it would have been much more dignified of you to do this privately,” she chided the singer. “I am calling you a bully because you have 32 million followers hanging on your every word and you are criticizing Kelly in your open letter.” The Talk host later went on to discuss the row on the CBS show saying that Gaga had set a poor example.

While the two clearly made amends Sunday night, Kelly is unwavering in her opinion telling Cosmopolitan in July 2013, “I loved Lady Gaga. I totally believed in everything she stood for, until I realized she’s a great big hypocrite.” She added, “Don’t say, ‘When you see bullying, intervene,’ while letting your fans send me death threats. If my fans did that, I would not stand for it.”

Her final words on Sunday night? “I like desert, but I prefer the truth… it’s sweeter,” wrote Osbourne, then using the French Revolution as part of her final jab: “‘Let them eat cake’ #MarieAntoinette.”

[From Us Weekly]

For the love of God. Neither Gaga nor Kelly is a bully. Neither of them is a victim. Neither of them has the upperhand and neither of them can play the pity-poor-me card. They are both a—holes. They are both self-absorbed bitches who love to talk smack about other people. Which is fine. JUST OWN THAT. Just own your bitchiness and engage in a petty bitch-fight. Enough.

    When gift wrapping goes wrong..
I always wondered what happened to the confetti after it was swept up from a ticker-tape parade.

Let this be a lesson to you kids, this is what happens when you roll a person instead of a house.

wait, wait.. she looks like Mumm-Ra from ThunderCats.

  4. aemish says:

She’s just as fugly without the face paint, I can’t watch either way. *shrug*

    • NeNe says:

Same here. I wish she would just go away already. I’ve seen just about all of her antics, and they are tired already!

  5. tifzlan says:

Why does Kelly Osbourne think she’s more important than she really is?

    • Nina W says:

And on what planet is she a fashion icon? Her horrible purple hair and tragic clothing choices do not a fashionista make.

  6. Elodie says:

It’s like Lady Gaga’s costume circus, it’s got to the point where you just think “Alright then.” and you turn around and keep chatting to your mate or carry on with your lunch or something.

  7. Crack Fox says:

I love this getup, but I think her face should have been completely white.

  8. Tiffany :) says:

I feel like Kelly’s reaction to the cake was so overblown! Yikes! IMO, it seemed like Gaga did the cake thing because she was on her moms show, so she tried to mend fences. That isn’t offensive.

  9. Jayna says:

Yawn. No one cares. I’m just waiting for two great songs on her album, Artpop and Sex Dreams when the album comes out They sound awesome. And I’m still loving running to Applause.

I have to say a lot of her fans said her performance on X factor was bad, and I finally watched it. It was meh for Gaga. She’s never bad because she can really belt out a song and be pitch perfect unlike her pop lessors like Katy, but poor by Gaga standards. She did two new songs and tried to make it a moment and it wasn’t. Not worthy of someone of Gaga’s pop stature flailing around on the stage floor and barefoot in some cheap bra and panties with no great choreography and hanging on the top of the piano. She used the piano as a prop, because she only hit a few keys on it. It looked like she put together the performance in her living room before going on stage. Her vocals were good and used heavy backing track for part of it, but she needs a new choreographer. Same old dance moves for several years now. Bring whacky Laurieann back. It was interesting to see her real hair. She took her wig off halfway through.

Remember …in the stone ages when singers simply sang their songs….

    • jc126 says:

In my day….And some of them had actual talent. I remember. A lot of people still have talent these days, but they get eclipsed by the ones who put spectacles before skill.

I can’t wait til Gaga is long gone from any attention.

  11. Mindy says:

I’ve seen better get-ups at second rate comic book conventions.

  12. Arock says:

She has spent this entire week look like a coke booger.

  13. grabbyhands says:

Sometimes I wonder if she ever gets tired of this schtick and looks in the mirror and think about just wearing like, jeans and a t-shirt and sneakers. It seems like she’s gotten to the point where she is physically unable to leave the house without wearing some kind of bizarre wig/makeup/costume combination.

    • Me Three says:

Gotta agree. It must be exhausting at this point to keep this show up. The thing is that it’s old now. I like some of her stuff to workout to but frankly, she’s turned me off to the point that I don’t actively search her out anymore on iTunes. She’s a sad person.

  14. Kate says:

Not a Gaga fan at all, but Kelly Osbourne drives me nuts. Her career is built on getting into these idiotic feuds with far more famous celebrities, it has been from the very start. She only broke out of her family’s reality show because she started a mostly one-sided thing with Christina Aguilera, it was her main claim to fame even after she launched her own singing career, and she still tries to fan the flames of that whenever she’s not getting enough attention. She complains about being bullied over her looks, but she’s always ready to talk about how ugly or fat another celebrity is if she thinks it’ll get her some press. She’s really a pathetic human being.

  15. Dawn says:

Just sing woman, just sing! This other stuff is just old and tiring. I know it’s supposed to be performance art but enough already.

  16. Melinda says:

This sort of reminds me of when Amanda Palmer dressed up as a white statue and handed out flowers on the street.

  17. Melody says:

How does Gaga get away with this? If Britney or Bynes did any of this nonsense, they’d be wrapped up and medicated within the hour – when Gaga does it, people look for its meaning and assume depth.

  18. Sugar says:

what was she deprived of as a child…dress up, getting into mommy’s closet & make up drawer, fingerprinting, baking cookies from scratch. She looks like she spilled the flour canister reaching for it. Her eyes make mine hurt everytime I blink.
Should she ever return to stephani and sing and play her piano I might give her a listen but this caricature (gaga) does nothing for me personally I guess I just don’t have that monster love.

  19. dorothy says:

She’s exhausting. So much work for attention.

  20. Christo says:

She finally got one of her crazy outfits right. If you are going to do crazy, you should go all out. Her previous attempts at crazy have been piecemeal, leaving much to be desired. Viewed objectively as an entire look, she actually completed this one. Decreasingly creative, I find her exploits of the past year underwhelming—though this looks deserved a second glance…if not as a fashion statement, then certainly as a Halloween outfit.

  21. capepopsie says:

I quite like the colour of her, uhh . . dress! That´s it 🙂

  22. peter says:

    AMAZING or CRAZY?

I SAY: STUPID and SILLY at the same time.

    and UGLY btw.

  23. Nicolette says:

Boring, just so boring. It’s sad really how she’s trying so hard to stay relevant.

  24. Santolina says:

She needs to hire a new PR team who can get her back to basics — that amazing voice and musical talent — hook her up with great songwriters, if that’s what it takes, and keep it pared down for awhile, until she can regain respect as singer. After that, maybe Broadway?

  25. Kelly says:

I don’t even like her voice anymore.

  26. Madpoe says:

The ghost of the haunted paper shredder!!!

  27. nicegirl says:

I actually really like the living statue costume deal. I agree, it is one of her best so far.

As for Kelly, PLEASE – STOP. Remember when Camille on the Real Housewives said the one who stays calm WINS? I am gonna say this one goes to Gaga, ftw.

  28. Nono says:

“Neither Gaga nor Kelly is a bully.”

Ya … no. Gaga knows exactly how to passive-aggressively attack people through her fans. That whole Perez thing was so distasteful. However much anyone dislikes a person, it’s not okay to set crazy people (Little Monsters, indeed) on them. Gaga knows that if she points out people she dislikes, her fans will attack them. The #love and #art stuff is pure prevarication. She uses it as plausible deniability for whomever she sicks her stans on. “But my message had positive hashtags in it! Of course I didn’t set these lunatics on Celebrity X!”

    • Nina W says:

Kelly has done her fair share in their squabble and is a bully as well.

      • Nono says:

From what I can tell, Kelly just speaks her mind. She’s not as innocent as she wants to appear- there’s certainly some bitchiness she likes to (try to) hide- but at least she doesn’t actively and maliciously scheme like Gaga so clearly does.

  29. Emil says:

It must be exhausting to dress up like this on a daily basis. I’m exhausted just looking at it.

If she really wants to shock me, she’d walk out in a t-shirt, jeans, no wig, and minimal make up.

  30. Kit says:

I kind of like it, TBH.

  31. Kelly Osborne should just get a life IMO.
