Jada Pinkett Smith shaved off half of her hair: weird, unflattering or cute?

wenn20818305

Here are some photos of Jada Pinkett Smith at last night’s Equality Now event, “Make Equality Reality”. Jada has changed up her hair again. I think she shaved the back and sides a few weeks ago, but this is the first time we’ve seen her on a red carpet with this new look. She’s bleaching the peach fuzz too, right? I think so. Anyway… Jada disturbs me. She has every right to change up her look however she wants, and I do feel rather mean for saying that she looks bizarre, but really, she looks bizarre. This hairstyle is not flattering or attractive. It’s actually rather try-hard, like, “Look at me, I’m so avant-garde!” When really it’s like a budget Rihanna move. Also: her face still looks so crazy to me. She’s been tweaking a lot the past few years.

Last week, everyone was talking about a Radar story in which “sources” claimed that Jada and Will Smith were living “separate lives”. It was weird to me that so many outlets picked up that story, because I thought it was pretty obvious that yes, they’re living separate lives and they have been for several years. This is not new information – Will and Jada barely see each other, they’re rarely in the same city at the same time, they barely co-parent their children and I’m pretty sure both of them are rolling with Xenu, which brings a whole other set of problems. Will and Jada are only married on paper at this point. It’s sad. But not particularly newsworthy until one of them files for separation or divorce.

Don’t care for the hair style. Too butch.

I just don’t get what message she’s trying to send here. She’s not young. Not a musician. And this style has been done by so many others for so many years that it’s not even on trend. Grow up, Jada. Smh.

    • Yup, Me says:

I’m just replying up here so that my comment is toward the top of the page. Ya’ll are LATE. It was Jada who started the whole trend of shaving her head and dyeing it. All those bald, black women with blonde fuzz back in the 90s- Jada was at the beginning of that trend.

I like her. I think that she comes off as fierce and intense and no bullshit. That’s what I like about her and, frankly, that’s part of what I think makes a lot of white women uncomfortable (or inexplicably angry) about her. Her acting aside, I like her public image.

I’d still sit down and kick it with her and have a cup of tea. Then I’d plug my ears and say “LALALALA” if she tried to get me to join her cult. The same way I do when my Christian relatives do it.

Since you HAVE to bring color into a f’ing hair thread…. I am purple and I don’t care for her because I can’t stand scientologists

      • Bridget says:

I find it interesting that you describe her as ‘no BS’ but also recognize that she’s a part of a cult (which she won’t even admit to being a part of). Because those are 2 very conflicting statements. She’s not honest about being $ci, and she’s definitely not honest about her marriage. She’s FULL of bullshit.

      • mytbean says:

There’s a difference between healthy confidence and raging egotism. Reasons I don’t like her… She’s stuck up and full of herself. She’s indifferent to peoples’ opinions to the point of myopic vision. She’s a Scientologist (which I don’t respect) and if she and Will genuinely do raise their children “like little adults” only compounds the nasty. She acts as though her excrement smells like Chanel #5… as though the public opinion of what she says and does is beyond her concern when her career is heavily reliant on that. I find her pretentious, snobbish and yes… her hair is ugly.

lol – there. I’ve added my bitchy to the Cele today.

wow, what a bigoted statement. there are plenty of “fierce and intense and no bullshit” black women in the public eye today, ones who don’t “make white women uncomfortable” or ANY woman uncomfortable, because they are NOT egotistical, pedantic, self-important, lecturing a-holes.

and, they’re also not members of a destructive cult, like she is.

    • kady says:

She’s is a musician. She’s in a rock metal band called Wicked Wisdom. So it definitely fits.

  2. Patricia says:

Trying. So. Hard. Really, it makes me uncomfortable how hard this lady is trying!

  3. blue marie says:

I dunno about the shaved sides but that’s a pretty ponytail.

  4. lovelylaura says:

She triggers some unspeakable anger button in me – can’t watch anything she’s in. Fortunately, she doesn’t work so much due to her complete lack of talent. Hooray for me!

    • Sunny says:

you´re not alone. don´t know what it is but for me she is total unlikeable. Pretty yes, but unlikeable aka unwatchable

    • Petee says:

I was never a fan of hers either.I didn’t get them as a couple at all. When she was on Oprah she just talked so much crap.I never thought she was attractive either. Her face is very harsh. She needs some hair around her face to soften it up.

    • blue marie says:

I’m going way back but I thought Set It Off was a great movie, she wasn’t bad in it.

    • eliza says:

Hahahaha. Quit sharing my brain. Agree with everything you said.

    • doofus says:

besides the fact that she’s not a very good actress, she also comes off as judgmental…like she thinks her lifestyle and opinions on things are gospel. her “advice” always comes off as so lecture-y and pedantic.

  5. FingerBinger says:

I thought the fad of shaving off half of your hair was over. Oh well.

  6. Willa says:

My English Bulldog farted as I’m writing to describe her hair style. My dog inadvertently summed it up for me. It stinks!

  7. rachey says:

There are no words to describe how tragic she looks.

  8. GoodNamesAllTaken says:

    Not lovin’ it.

  9. Dawn says:

I think Jada is pretty but I am not liking this shaved on the sides look.

  10. wonderwoman21 says:

Horrible! And wtf is wrong with her face?!

  11. Kit2 says:

People generally don’t get haircuts like this because they think it will enhance their looks, they do it to prove something, namely: that they can still manage to look half-decent with such an unflattering haircut.

She’s an attractive woman but the hair… eh, I’m not feeling it.

    • Jenna says:

I don’t know… I shaved the side of my head because I thought it actually gave me a lot more options to play with. Granted, my stylist might be a magician – she cut in in such a way that I can pull it all up and rock more of a ‘edgy’ look when I want, but when I leave it down, it lays in some magical way that looks feminine and pretty in a shaggy kind of way. Wasn’t to prove anything, just got bored and figured ‘why not, it’s just hair, it can always be grown back out’

Me bleaching it out to white blond with streaks of royal blue and green in the underlayers, THAT’S done to ‘prove’ something! (lol Mainly, to prove it’s risky for me to be allowed to get bored near a hair place with a bit of disposable money in my pocket!)

The only thing that really looks off to me on Jada is the seemingly random bleaching of the sides. That odd bleached blond might be the one rare color that doesn’t work with her gorgeous caramel skin.

      • Diana Prince says:

I shaved my sides just cause I felt like it. I figured…it’s my hair, I like it so, yeah. That should be all that matters.

  12. RJ says:

Any possibility the hairdo is for a movie role?
I don’t judge their marriage style, to each his own. But I do judge them for the whole CO$ thing-how could both of them be so stupid? I remember Wil from his Fresh Prince days and he’s such a likeable actor, it’s too bad that he got sucked into a cult. And it looks like their kids-at least their son-is a typical run of the mill, child of celebrities, overprivileged & indulged jerk.

  13. lunchcoma says:

Yikes. That’s the kind of hair that should be left for Halloween.

I thought everyone knew that marriage was over, too. I find the Scientology bit troubling, but these informal separations don’t bother me so long as people don’t get fpdramatic about things. There are valid reasons for people to want to avoid divorce.

  14. Bridget says:

That woman tries so hard I’m surprised she hasn’t given herself a hernia.

  15. lisa2 says:

I know fashion and everything repeats.. but this looks and feels dated.

  16. Mia4S says:

Eh, it’s not to my taste, but what do I know?

I would be stunned if they divorced anytime soon, they’re too invested in the “brand”. I do think the kids could be heading for trouble. The public took a mild interest but neither has shown much staying power. But are they equipped for the real world?

  17. poppy says:

aw, i had a shaved sides haircut once. i was 14 yo and thought it would make me all the things you seek to be punk at 14. also, could wear it down and really couldn’t tell the sides were shaved.
    14.

  18. Nanz01 says:

She’s about the only celebrity I can think of who could pull off that hairstyle. I think it looks good ON HER.

  19. Reece says:

I find the juxtaposition of a shaved head and extensions on the same head…juxtaposing.
    That’s all I got.

  20. Sarah says:

Awful, what is it going to look like out of the ponytail?? Sheesh

  21. Madriani's Girl says:

    Puh-leeze.

  22. shelley says:

I beg differ with everyone. I love how this look. Granted, most women her age couldn’t pull this off, but she is freakin Jada Pinkett Smith. She’s got this!! And how amazing does her body look?

  23. TherapyCranes says:

I actually like this fad. However I prefer only half with the comb over like skrillex does it. I find it looks better on women. I thought about cutting my hair like this but it would take forever to grow out and decided that it was a bad decision.

  24. carol says:

    she is always beautiful

  25. LadidahBaby says:

I think she’s absolutely beautiful, but this haircut looks too much like a midlife crisis to me, as if she’s been watching the antics of Miley with her similar haircut and thinking wistfully of all the attention Miley’s been getting. She may even look at her own kids with their edgy styling and just feel that her own moment has passed. And hey, look: thanks to the new coif, we ARE talking about her. Relevance–it’s a killer. As we all know, in the business, lots of people would do almost anything to be relevant again.

  26. FartSack says:

WHAT THE HELL HAPPENED TO HER? She used to have SOME class, but then something happened to her face and that was the beginning of the end.
