Lady Gaga received no Grammy nominations: will she still show up?

Here are some new photos of Lady Gaga, wearing a crazy wig. Ugh. I don’t even care anymore. Did you hear that Gaga’s ARTPOP didn’t get any nominations? Apparently, it’s a technicality – by the time she released the album, it was ineligible. Although “Applause” could have been nominated for some awards as a single… it was not nominated for anything. HA.

The Grammy nominations came out a few days ago – you can see the full list here. I never really care about the Grammy nominations or the Grammys in general, is that wrong? I just think the Grammys are usually pretty outdated and they don’t really reflect what’s going on in music these days. That being said, I was pleasantly surprised to see Macklemore, Daft Punk and Bruno Mars get some major nominations. It seems to me like the Grammys – the actual ceremony – is more about crazy costumes and crazier performances. So considering how many “crazy” people had new music/new albums out this year, it should be interesting? There’s Lady Gaga, Beyonce (even though her album still isn’t out, right?), Katy Perry, Miley Cyrus, plus all of the more legitimate musical acts. So, we should have some good water-cooler moments no matter what. Now Radar claims that Katy, Beyonce and Gaga have made a pact to not make it all about girl drama:

The 2014 Grammys promise to be the mother of all awards shows! That’s because pop music’s three biggest divas — Katy Perry, Beyonce and Lady Gaga — are all wanted as headliners, a production source has revealed to RadarOnline.com. And surprisingly, although Beyonce and Gaga were rumored to be feuding, the ladies could agree to play nice in order to make next year’s event a powerhouse show!

“The trio are all looking to avoid cat fights and turf wars by agreeing to each perform the same amount of time–six minutes,” the insider dished. “And they’re not planning any special duets or group performances. They plan to each have their moment to shine and steal the show. They’re going to get that chance and music fans are sure to be thrilled!”

The National Enquirer reported that although Beyonce and Gaga teamed up on the hit “Telephone,” things have been frosty between them because Mrs. Carter thinks the other pop star’s outfits are too over the top. The magazine said Gaga then dismissed Beyonce as a “hater.”

The source said the singers haven’t been on speaking terms since their collaboration on Gaga’s last record, but they’re setting personal feelings aside for the big Grammy show, which will air on January 26, 2014.

Meanwhile, a fourth diva, Miley Cyrus, who has made major noise with her wild performances this year, is holding back on performing at the Grammys for now, we’ve learned.

“Her album Bangerz isn’t the kind that gets a lot of nominations, so she’s planning accordingly,” the source explained.

Here’s my question: while I’m sure Gaga will be invited to the Grammys (to perform), do you think she’ll even show up? One side says of course she’ll show up, because she’s desperate for attention and she still wants to “prove” her “artistry”. But another side wonders if she’ll snub the Grammys like they snubbed her. Hm. As for Beyonce… who even knows what she’ll do. Katy will be there, I’m sure. And she’ll perform.

PS… Do you think Gaga is homage-ing Ani DiFranco with the dreadlocks?

God she’s exhausting. Yes, I think she’ll show up looking like an alien or something. Seriously, I’m really over her.

  2. dorothy says:

Her costume thing is getting old. At first it was interesting. The shoes, the hair, etc…. Now, it’s just.. yawn. Time to rely on the voice, the music and not all the extras. If your talented you don’t need crazy hair, crazy shoes and stupid costumes. Besides, it’s looks exhausting.

    • emmie_a says:

Dorothy: ITA. I mentioned her costumes in yesterday’s post because it just seems like sooo much work (and money!) — but why?? Does she get dressed up like this just for fun, on a daily basis, to get her picture taken? It just seems too obvious – but why? If it’s for attention, I think most people are over it. I think she is a talented singer/songwriter but she’s relying too much on this costume crap.

      • Bread and Circuses says:

The costumes probably don’t cost much–in fact, I expect designers of weird stuff are positively throwing their clothes at her, because how else can their stuff hit the mainstream?

I actually really like the gold outfit, but I think I’d like it better as a pantsuit. The ash-blond dreads are cool, too.

I wouldn’t wear those boots for fear of breaking an ankle, mind you.

  3. Jacqueline says:

I think that Gaga knows that if you go a year without a nod or an appearance, you’re done. Jumped the shark. This album will be old news and for the next ceremony, what’s hot and new will get the noms – and that puts her in a position not to be nominated or included two years in a row. And it isn’t like she is taking time off, she’s try-harding and it isn’t working. The public is sending a message and the industry sees it.
I wonder if the label considered the release date with regard to the Grammys. The date was pushed back because the was perfecting everything, right? She’s done this to herself.

  4. MonicaQ says:

Why am I having a hard time seeing Beyonce throw shade at Gaga because of her outfits? Her hissy fits maybe but it ain’t like Beyonce ain’t worn some crazy stuff too. I heard the Telephone things was because Gaga had said she could’ve performed with Rhianna and it would’ve done just as well and Rhi-Rhi would’ve been less demanding than Beyonce.

    • ZigZagZoey says:

I thought her choice of collaborating with Beyonce was genius, and I’m sure she sucked up big time. I can’t stand Beyonce, but she is as powerful as it gets in the biz as well as her husband. I think that is the reason she chose B and not Rihanna.
I know Rihanna is slutty, but I love her songs and her voice a zillion times more than anything B has ever done.

  5. Nicole says:

omg what’s wrong with me… i dig this look!

    • Rachel says:

I don’t know if I dig it, but without the crazy masks/makeup/hair in her face, you can see how pretty she really is. It’s a good look for her. I think I’d dig it if the wig wasn’t so long.

  6. CaribbeanLaura says:

At least her face looks nice. Hey I think this may be Bruno Mars’ year!!! Remember when he had a mini hissy fit the year Adele won everything?? This year there’s no monster huge album and he really is extremely talented and I’m rooting for him. Tho most likely I won’t watch the grammys. Oh and no noms for Miley!! what a shocker! :p

  7. Melissa says:

Hopefully the Grammys will get their mojos back: nominating and rewarding musicians and artists whose art matters and makes a difference.

    • Tapioca says:

Nope. Justin Timberlake got SEVEN nominations for the most phoned-in, half-assed album ever to be released purely to fulfil a recording contract!

On the plus-side, Lorde, Macklemore and Bruno Mars are all up for the top awards.

  8. blue marie says:

That wig looks like the business end of a mop, just no..

  9. Cheryl says:

I highly doubt she knows who Ani Difranco is. A Shame, actually. Ani is the anti Gaga. Love her.

  10. Marty says:

Can someone please explain the last sentence in the article to me, “Bangerz isn’t the kind of album that gets nominations, she’s planning accordingly”? I thought Miley said she was doing all that suff because she was TRYING to win Grammys?

    • DJ says:

I know, I can’t believe that sentence was completely glossed over. Unless there’s going to be a separate article about Miley and her lack of Grammy noms. Because if Miley’s not about the awards, then what is she about?

  11. Jh says:

Her face and make-up looks really beautiful in these pictures. The wig even works.

  12. pao la says:

She looks really good in dreadlocks, i just wish she could stick to a style and make it hers. then and only then she’ll convince me that this is not only a way to win her fans over or just an attention seeking. She is a singer, just sing for f-sake. Just leave all the shenanigans to those people who have no talent at all.

  13. Whitney says:

I am so over her schtick. She’s not even original about being original.

  14. godkatesusall says:

Lady Gaga wasn’t nominated for a Grammy because she wasn’t eligible to be nominated. The eligibility period for the 56th Annual Grammy Awards was October 1, 2012 to September 30, 2013. That’s why Taylor Swift’s Red was in contention this year when it came out in October of 2012.

  15. Dani2 says:

Quite surprised that Miley wasn’t nominated at all but Katy was? I mean, what’s the difference between the two except branding? Both averagely-talented women who’ve had success as a result of good marketing. If Katy deserves a nod then so does Miley.

  16. Jessica says:

If I was her manager, I would tell her to show up looking totally normal and red-carpet beautiful and to give a totally unexpected, no-frills acoustic performance. She has done weird so much that nothing weird could be shocking or noteworthy. She should go the complete opposite direction – that would get her the headlines/attention.

  17. ChrisB says:

Compared to previous costumes, the wig is actually pretty toned down. No raw meat, no cutlery, it’s all getting pretty tame and mainstream… BTW, I do agree with a previous comment that Gaga’s whole costume thing is getting rather old.

  18. Eleonor says:

Whoever her surgeon and makup artist are are incredibly talented. That’s not her “Poker face”.
    I like this outfit.

  19. MJ says:

I think she’s referencing Ari Up from The Slits, if anything.

  20. Lala says:

I think her face looks gorgeous

  21. DreamyK says:

So now Gaga’s is copying Gwen Stefani’s makeup. Yawn.

  22. TeresaGiudice says:

I think she needs to do something different. I could really see her doing a Broadway play. She had such a great voice and the generic pop songs she sings don’t do it any justice.

  23. TheOneandOnlyOnly says:

Well, she’s become a joke and the Grammys are largely a joke – how about some rock bands and some actual live singing not lip synching and formation dancing – so why not show up. Are the Avett Brothers up for anything they’re as good as if not better than anyone that will “perform”.

  24. Camille (TheOriginal) says:

I don’t care about any of the stuff in the article, I’m just stoked that Lorde got a few noms (doubt she will win, but good on her for getting nominated anyway).

  25. Denise says:

If in the future, an aspiring pop star wanted to homage Lady Gaga, what on earth would she do? She’s a blank. Her complete lack of original thought leaves her without legacy.

  26. Justine says:

Is it just me or does she look like Courteney Stodden in these pics??

  27. St says:

Justin Bieber also didn’t get any nominations again. Did he even released something this year that could be nominated? He does that never ending tour of horror. But his power is kind of fading. Remember how he used to get 5 awards at every awards show? This year he got nothing from VMA, I think EMA gave his something. Then I believe he got nothing from American Music Awards. And no nominations for Grammy. It’s like those One Direction took his place and now get few statues at every awards show. It’s amazing that Grammy did not nominate them. Can’t wait till their few years of boy-band fame will end.

  28. Pam246 says:

It’s not shocking that Gaga didn’t get any nominations. She only had one song out, although Katy Perry did get a couple of nominations. It’s a lot easier to get nominations when the album is out. Also artists who weren’t nominated have performed before. I haven’t heard that there’s a falling out between Beyoncé and Gaga. It seems like they are still friends. I am surprised that Miley Cyrus didn’t get a nomination. I actually like “Wrecking Ball”. Her antics are another story.
