These are photos of Justin Bieber at his Believe movie premiere in LA. He looks like a total tool in these photos with his manager, Scooter Braun, and mentor, Usher. The movie comes out on Christmas Day stateside, and I’m hoping that Biebs’ plummeting concert ticket prices are an indication of how well the film will do. Maybe Bieber will be forced into early retirement if you know what I mean. Poor little crying underdog might have to find another way to support his extravagant lifestyle.
Scooter Braun has let us all know how he’s worried about his golden goose. He’s admitted that he cannot control Bieber. Braun even says he stays awake every night just waiting for a phone call with bad news. Now Scooter has talked with Ryan Seacrest about how he’d really like Bieber to take a break. As if that would keep him out of trouble, right? That would only mean more time to pee in restaurant buckets. Scooter thinks the press has blown his client’s behavior completely out of proportion. Okay:
On Believe‘s conception: “We decided this movie, we did it independently, that we’d show the concert, we’re not really gonna make it into a big movie. Then over the last nine months Justin got into trouble sometimes, a few times. We started seeing this thing going on with the press, that over and over again they could get away with anything and there’s a point where you can’t respond to every single rumour so we just had to let it go.”
Believe will solve Bieber’s media problems: “We decided with this movie we’re just going to address it all at once. We had our director John Chu actually sit down with Justin, he did a three hour sit down interview with him where he asked him really hard questions. Questions like ‘people think you’re the next train wreck, how do you respond?'”
Believe compared to Bieber’s first movie, Never Say Never: “We’ve made a family movie in that the last one represented hope and this one we show how you respond to adversity and getting knocked down.”
Scooter wants Bieber to take time off: “I’m telling him after this movie, I want him to take next year off and just take a break. He can still live in the studio and work on the next album, which is what he wants to do, but I just want him to take some time to himself, so he can have that time alone cause he’s been working since he was 12 years old. He said, ‘losing my childhood, losing the time I have with my family and my friends is not worth it unless I give you the best I can be.’ He wants to go for it because what he’s given up already, he can’t justify losing all that unless he gets to the top. And that’s why he works as hard as hard as he does.”
On Bieber’s future as an artist: “He needs to decide where he goes from here, he has all the tools. He’s fighting with really wanting to be normal but then also the response is that he’s not allowed to be normal.”

I don’t see how Scooter thinks the press is trying to “get away with everything” when they are simply reporting the facts. Pee-gate really happened. Bieber did in fact stumble out of a brothel in Brazil. And so on. If Bieber was truly fighting to be “normal,” then he’d behave like a human being. At least Scooter is in favor of Bieber taking a break, but that won’t help Justin get his act together.
Bieber’s mom, Patti Mallette, showed up to support her son at the premiere. Is that a bandage dress?

To be fair (and I’m no Bieber fan I assure you), everyone around him was so keen to jump on board and enjoy the good times with him that I don’t think a single person in his life has even tried to prepare him for the day the final fans disappear and the ride is over. It is happening now and Biebs is understandably confused about what he should be doing and who he should be listening to. Maybe if he disappeared for a few years then came back with more maturity and insight and less Scooter and streetwalker mom, he could redeem some of his stupidness from now.

When I made the comment I didn’t separate the woman from her dress. It’s her behavior that colored my negativity. And it’s actually the other way around: figuratively speaking, she’s one half of the two (scooter being the other) main individuals pimping this kid and reveling in the attention he receives. She condones it and even goes so far as to make excuses for him.
I understand that people are extremely sensitive about slut shaming and imho, that’s as it should be. At times though, it’s important to look at the whole person.
Would it have been more accurate to say she looks as if she’s about to go clubbing? Yes. Was I highly critical of his mom’s attire? Yup. I insulted her physical appearance specifically because her attitude and behavior make her look ugly.
And what about the criticism when Courtney Sodden dresses as if she’s a porn star? People approve of denigrating her choice of clothing and go so far as to criticize her body in any way that comes to mind and it’s accepted. It sickens me because I look at her as a victim. But Bieber’mom is no victim.
Sea Dragon – I took your comment for what it was. There’s nothing wrong with a woman enjoying her sexuality, but it’s contextual. She’s not at a 30 something singles event, and if she were dressing that way as a mom at a school event – which is essentially what’s she’s doing when she appears with the Bieb – there would be talk. In this case, she’s screaming loud and clear “I’m not a real mom who cares about her son’s well-being, just here to ride the money train.”
The outfit sends a message – not a slut message but a terrible mom message.
@Bettyrose: I disagree. I’m not saying she’s a good mom, I’m saying that her parenting has nothing to do with the way she dresses in public with her legally adult son. She could have showed up at the event in a suit, and that wouldn’t have implied that she’s any better of a parent than this outfit does.
And @Sea Dragon: I’m not for attacking Courtney Stodden for the way she dresses either. I think we should let people’s actions speak for them, not their physical appearance choices. Obviously Ms. Bieber (that sounds so weird!) is not a great parent, but Justin Bieber is 19. I don’t feel that a celebrity’s parents are responsible for the actions of their 18+ children. Even Tom Cruise, Brad Pitt and Leo DiCaprio stop and talk to the reporters at THEIR OWN movie premiere. And they’re much bigger stars than Bieber.
Let me start by saying I am having a very rough morning, so please don’t come down on me too hard…but my god, I am actually starting to feel sorry for him. He started working very young (12! What kid can handle that kind of fame so young?), and could very well be a product of a massive entertainment machine and have little control over his life (hello Britney and Miley), but he doesn’t ever get a “he’s young and rebelling” pass? Why? It seems that few of these young megastars have parents who are looking out for them, but they have plenty of people making money off of their talent/looks and enabling every whim. Why is Bieber treated so harshly? He’s a product of his environment and upbringing (or lack thereof) too.
How many can withstand that kind of brutal attention without it affecting them? I mean, Amanda Bynes wound up in the hospital after all the jeering and armchair judging. Then everyone was suddenly contrite when it was revealed that she was truly mentally ill – like Britney before her. After all the negative attention and internet popcorn throwing, she gets a magazine cover and we all cheer for her recovery. Where do we draw the line?
I think that most people would fold under that kind of intense pressure these young stars are under. Bieber can’t even take a break…his manager is “offering” him a break on the one hand, but also making sure he keeps working on the other. And then justifying it by saying that Bieber *wants* to keep working on an album. Not just his music, but his album…there is a big difference. Who knows if it’s even true, or just a disingenuous way of looking sympathetic while making sure his human ATM machine keeps dispensing money? His acting out and bad behavior could very well be his way of thumbing his nose at his manager.
I’ve got three boys of my own, one who dreams of being an actor (god help me). Perhaps I am projecting how I would feel if people were treating my son this way. The one absolutely true thing his manager said is that Justin is not allowed to be normal. He will never be “normal”. Just makes me sad for him.

Nothing about Beiber’s behavior screams mental illness. At least with Amanda and Britney there was some indication that something wasn’t right with them. Justin Beiber is behaving like a self entitled douche. Peeing in bucket, getting a piggy back while at the great wall of China, getting photographed coming out of a brothel. That is not mental illness, that is a famous spoiled rich behaving badly. Justin is trying to cultivate a ‘bad boy’ image because he sings bubble gum pop music. He created this image of himself, no one is picking on him. Full stop.
Being young and rebelling is not an excuse. Any sane person would criticize any normal kid for doing sh-t this stupid. I doubt any (sane) parent ever was all “it’s cool kid, you’re just young and rebelling” when their child threw wild parties, peed in a bucket in a restaurant kitchen, drove too fast and endangered lives, went to a brothel underaged, did drugs, left a pet they claimed to care about in a random country, vandalized public property. That is stupid behavior no matter how old the person is who’s doing it. There is no excuse for it and I’m sick of people giving trying to give him one by saying “oh he’s just young”.
With money and fame always comes responsibility. And he’s failing miserably because he’s clearly not even trying to be responsible.
With Amanda Bynes, for a long time a lot of people suspected that she was just acting out for attention. I thought she was trying to make herself the next Britney Spears/Lindsay Lohan for publicity.
Britney Spears had her issues, but from what I saw, her actions toward others weren’t as bad as Justin’s are.
You may be right about Justin Bieber. He could be headed for a breakdown. Or, he could just be someone who has anger management issues and little respect for other people. I think that’s the main reason why he gets this criticism. It doesn’t seem like most of us are mad at him for trying drugs or going to the brothel. I do think being young is a valid reason to want to experiment, be immature, and want to rebel against certain things. But it’s not a good excuse to treat others like crap- and that’s a problem that’s consistently seen with him. I do think fame is unhealthy for young people, though.
Plenty of us suspected behavioral health problems with Amanda Bynes. Look back a few months in the CB archives when commenters were asking this site to stop posting about her for that very reason.

Beiber is a total tool but like you I *almost* feel sorry for him. It’s easy to hate because he acts like such a dweeb, but it’s all part of being with yes-sayers for all these years. I don’t think if any of us had lived that kind of fame at such a tender age, we’d be any better than Brit, Miley et al.

Whatever damage control that is trying to be done by this interview, I think it’s been cancelled out by stories of his fans reeking so much havoc at the premiere that the fire marshal had to be called in.
