Kirsten Dunst admits she doesn’t care how she looks

Kirsten Dunst out and about in Tribeca after having lunch in a l

Normally I find Kirsten Dunst rather annoying. There’s just something about her that grates on my nerves. Probably the oddly thrown together outfits that look like she rolled out of bed… and then rolled in mud. You thought I was going to say “rolled out of bed and threw on whatever was on the floor,” right? Naw, that’d be a formal day for Kirsten Dunst.

I always assumed Kirsten thought she looked good dressing the way she does, and somehow that bothered me. But it turns out she’s well-aware that she often looks slovenly and unkempt. She says she just flat out doesn’t care about it, and she’d rather be a fun person to hang around with than pretty to look at. And for some reason, that explanation makes me like her a little bit.

In response to complaints that she has gotten for her increasingly frumpy appearance, Kirsten Dunst confessed that she actually “couldn’t care less” about the way she looks.

“I don’t have the energy to care if people criticize the way I look,” the 26 year-old actress tells Britain’s OK!. “I’m over getting dressed up, although it’s fun sometimes — like when my younger brother Christian and I got ready together to go to the Oscars. But other than that, though, I couldn’t care less. Being fun is way better than being beautiful. I would rather entertain people.”

Considering the inhuman lengths most celebs go to in order to appear beautiful at all times, I’m almost glad there’s one who doesn’t. Kirsten’s look is certainly unusual – at best – but if nothing else it fits her. She still gets a decent amount of work in Hollywood, so clearly some people find her attractive and a decent actress.

I don’t think it’d hurt Kirsten to throw on a clean shirt once in a while… and maybe make friends with her iron on occasion. But she’s got a point about a good personality being better than a good dress.

There have been some rumors that Dunst is back with ex-boyfriend Josh Hartnett. Josh often rocks the grunge look too, so they make a lot of sense to me. Neither has confirmed anything, and they strike me as the kind that could happily stay hookup buddies, so it’s hard to guess what’s really going on. I swear I saw photos of Kirsten wearing a guy’s clothes that could easily have been Josh’s, but with her fashion style it’s hard to say.

Here’s Kirsten – in a reasonably normal outfit – out and about in Tribeca after having lunch in a local restaurant on Friday. Images thanks to Splash.

She just doesn’t have L.A. style, but she’d look perfectly attractive in other US cities, like San Francisco, Seattle, Portland, Boston, Chicago, etc.

I never understood why people hated her so much. Maybe I’m biased due to my love of Interview With A Vampire, but I don’t think that’s the case. She’s always came off as pretty down to earth in my opinion. It’s a good thing as Martha Stewart would say.

She doesn’t care how she looks. This is news? I thought that was pretty obvious to begin with. She constantly goes around looking like a total slob.

  4. Amy says:

Have you ever seen an interview with her? She is so egotistical and it’s hilarious!

I saw one where they asked her why she was cast as Mary Antoinette. She replied, “I think the director saw a dignity and grace in me…” LOL!

After reading Elizabeth’s comment, I guess I’m not the lone dissenter after all, but I don’t understand why everyone shits on Kirsten Dunst all the time. What’s to be offended by? She doesn’t look as pretty and act as if she neurotically craves attention as much as everyone would like her to? It’s not like she’s some attention whore roaming the streets looking for paparazzi.

  6. Melanie says:

I’ve always disliked her for some reason. I could never really figure out why.

  7. Claude Yoola says:

I don’t find her to be a good actress or an attractive woman. However my estimation of her as a person just shot through the roof.

Being fun IS way better than being beautiful. She’s among the small (but growing, I think) minority of people in Hollywood who realize the truth of this.

Being considered a beautiful woman and being celebrated for that can fuck you up in ways few people ever experience firsthand. It’s good that people, men and women, Hollywood or anywhere, are starting to realize that and live their lives accordingly. May sanity about what really matters and what doesn’t reign across our land again one day.

There is a difference between not caring how you look and going out of your way to make sure you appear as bedridden, urine soaked and smack-in-da-face style B.O. as possible at all times. That kind of effort takes dedication. She either hates herself or she hates the world. Whichever it is, she thinks she’s inflicting pain. Pain in the brain.

  9. voodoobetty says:

Good on her. I font see how you can think she looks that bad? Really? So she doesnt o out of her way to glam herself up for the cameras every time she steps out the door. That sort of self-obsession must get tiring. If she is happy with how she looks then I say more power to her. She’s probably much more fun to hang with than the Katy Holmes and Gwynneth Paltrows of the world.

  10. Claude Yoola says:

AFF: She probably does hate the world at least a bit. Don’t you?

She’s been a bit grungy but she doesn’t appear urine-soaked or bedridden to me. Maybe if you compare her to Brangie yes but then, you could say that about a lot of people.

  11. dubdub2000 says:

    Good on her.

What’s with the “admits” in the title? Is it a crime?

  12. vdantev says:

Still one of my faves, still cute as hell, still employed- so get off her back Jaywad.

  13. Shelly Shellz says:

Ugh pleze, its not abt what others think abt u its abt carrying urself well. Whether ur in Hollywood or not good healthy hygiene is important and she obviously lacks that. She’s just so dirty and disgusting

  14. jennifurrr says:

i really like her, she’s so talented and cute! i really dug Marie Antoinette, virgin suicides & basically every movie she’s been in except the spiderman ones (never had any appeal for me to watch). i think she went from a child to adult actor very easily and must be tired of having to be on all the time… probably why she left LA

  15. JMC says:

Elizabeth, that’s exactly what I think!

I’ve always liked her, and I think its cool she doesn’t put on full make-up to go cantelope shopping like Speidi!

  16. Orangejulius says:

She’s got her priorities straight, which is more than you can say for a lot of Hollywood. To do that at that age and in her line of work says a lot about her.

  17. BluePlanet says:

Not that there’s anything wrong with that, but we kinda already knew, thanks Kirsten, it was obvious

  18. cheetahstripes says:

She has a very casual style, which is nice to see in over-madeup and over cosmetic procedure’d Hollywood.

  19. perpetua says:

I love that she can just be herself & wear whatever, she is natural & doesn’t need to put on airs …except during her work roles 🙂 Sweet!

  20. BARN says:

Wood indeed is a ‘boring’ kind of woman as actress : no specific persona, average (poor) acting = too many such ‘short term actresses and actors’ around Hollywood…
