Tom Hiddleston to ‘appear’ at the Super Bowl, plus the new ‘Only Lovers’ trailer

hiddles jag

I have some assorted Tom Hiddleston news for you on this not-so-quiet Friday. First of all, I forgot to mention earlier this week that Hiddles will be making an appearance at the Super Bowl. He’s doing a commercial with Mark Strong and Ben Kingsley for Jaguar’s new ad campaign “Good To Be Bad”. There’s a commercial teaser which just features Ben Kingsley, who seems like he just wandered into a dark and futuristic set and was told to repeat some lines like a robot. I’m just saying, if you’re looking for someone to chew the scenery, it’s going to be Mark Strong and Hiddles. So, YAY, Hiddles at the Super Bowl. Sort of.

UPDATE: Here’s Tommy’s Jaguar teaser.

And here’s the new trailer for Only Lovers Left Alive. The first half is stuff you’ve seen before, but there’s some new footage in the last half, or at least it’s new to me. Only Lovers has an American release date too: April 11th. I’m sorry that it’s so far away, but look at it this way: starting in March, we have another Hiddles promotional tour to look forward to!

Last piece of Hiddles news: Coriolanus ticket sales were through the roof, so the Donmar Warehouse is adding six extra performances, extending the show until February 13th. So Hiddles will be out of work by Valentine’s Day. We should make some V-Day plans for him. Maybe some chocolate, some flowers and a pink ball gag? Sorry, a pink heart-shaped ball gag.

Based off that trailer, I really want to ship Swinton/Hiddleston. I will dub them Swiddleston.

  2. Anna says:

Sign me up for THAT valentine’s day party!

  3. Joann says:

There is an 11 second spot with just Tom called Business Associates up on the Jaguar site. It is dead sexy. It left me terrified and aroused.

    • Secret Squirrel says:

Jag is the quintessential upper class Brit. So is Tommy so it is a match made in heaven!! And it would be even better if Jag gave him a car to promote the brand around town!

My browser automatically defaults to the Jag website in Australia, so I can’t find the Business Associates link that you speak of. Any chance you can link it in here?

  4. T.fanty says:

Mark Strong is SO hot. That’s all I really have to offer.

Who else is seeing Coriolanus when it live-streams on the 30th?

    • LadySlippers says:

Yes he is. I just watched ‘Welcome to the Punch’ and he was quite yummy in it. (So was James McAvoy — yumminess abounded in that movie).

      • Kali says:

Are you a kiwi, Ladyslippers? “Welcome to the Punch” just premiered tonight on tv.

      • LadySlippers says:

No my dear — I’m an American. Although my kids are clamouring to move to your islands. Does that count??? 🙂

I found ‘Welcome to the Punch’ in a video rental service called Redbox. It’s a neat service…. I also rented Danny Boyle’s ‘Trance’ with James McAvoy. (What can I say? My daily requirement of hot Scottish men was met in spades). FYI ‘Trance’ was REALLY good. Like mind-trip kinda good.

    • Sixer says:

Ha. The hotness of Mark is my offering, too. I recently sat through the entire series of Low Winter Sun, which really was dreadful, just to see him and Lennie James IN THE SAME SHOW. I’d even hit Mark as Tosker, and that’s saying something.

PS: I hate to say it, but I might be. Sixlet Major wants seconds and his father won’t take him. Tightwad.

      • T.fanty says:

In Mr. Sixer’s defence, I’m sure the box office is sold out, and any tix available will be astronomical. You don’t want him to have to sell you in exchange.

Plus, in HD, you’ll be able to take a good look at his face and see the tracks of his tears.

      • Sixer says:

Oh, I guess I didn’t HATE it. And how can one deny the boy? Mr Sixer will suffer, though.

Are you tempting me to continue the Motown theme and talk about clowns?

      • LadySlippers says:

No, but you might beg her to Stop in the Name of Love.

        😉

      • Sage says:

God. Lennie James. He’s amazing. Forgot hiw much I missed seeing him in the (stupidly cancelled by HBO) cable series “Hung”.

    • Miss Jupitero says:

      I’ll be there!

    • Janeite says:

I will see it but unfortunately no cinemas in my area are showing it on January 30th so I have to wait until February. Better late than never though!

      • Secret Squirrel says:

Same Janeite. I’m Feb 26th I think. I can’t understand if the show was taped New Years Eve why it can’t be released around the world at roughly the same time. I wonder if it was the individual cinemas that got to choose the date to show it.

      • Janeite says:

        Hi Squirrel!
Yeah, that was definitely the case for the cinema that is showing it in my area. They already had something else showing on the 30th of January. I am seeing it on February 16th.

      • Secret Squirrel says:

Luckily I’m used to being late to the party, so being one of the last human beings alive to see this feels about right!

I’m not complaining though as there are some who don’t have any nearby cinemas showing it and miss out altogether.

      • allons-y alonso says:

I’ve got tickets for a screening on the 23rd Feb. I’m lucky I live close to the theatre.

      • Sage says:

No cinemas in my area showing it at all. Nearest is 200+ miles away. WHY??? We had “Frankenstein” and other NTLive presentations. Why is Hooterville being left out now?

  5. LadySlippers says:

Here’s another movie shot of Tom looking like an alabaster god. lol So… Does he wax to get hairfree or do they photoshop his hair out of it?? Hmmmm enquiring minds want to know!

(The other movie he looks like this is the sublime The Deep Blue Sea)

I know, Squirrel freelances as a barber on the side and uses a straight razor on him. 😉
So…. Squirrel, that disgusting ball of hair isn’t saved from the drain of Nicole’s Sydney house is it????

    • Secret Squirrel says:

Oh yes, straight-razoring that boy would be a million fantasies come true…
*drifts into momentary daydream coma of wet soapy alabaster skin*

The naked bed scenes of OLLA and TDBS are almost identical. That must be his “good side”!! It wouldn’t work for me though as he is sleeping on my side of the bed! I could probably adjust I suppose *sighs at the inconvenience of it all*. I wonder if he has a mirror on his bedroom ceiling at home so he can check he is in the “right position” before drifting off to the land of nod (to dream of squirrels I assume).

As part of my hair ball collection (everyone needs a hobby!), I have several Nicole balls of hair. There is the Nicole+Tom ball of hair, which for some reason won’t stay together anymore and the Nicole+Keith ball of hair, which seems to always end up with Keith’s hair on top, no matter how many times I turn it over. It’s quite perplexing…

Don’t forget I also have a belly button lint ball collection. That one is not so easy to build up as celebrities seem to resent having me jump on their tummies and start scratching at their navels. I do give them squirrel eyes first, but some still object *checks out big squirrel eyes in Tommy’s ceiling mirror and nods satisfactorily*

  6. blue marie says:

I think I’ll have to see this movie, love the photo of them together. Also Mark Strong, always wondered what his name was but am far to lazy to Google it.

  7. kaisei says:

Because OLLA will have yet another promotional tour? Didn’t that happened last year at festivals where it was presented (and failed to win any awards)?
I doubt there’ll be any promotion, I don’t even think they have the budget for it.

    • Leah says:

OLLA is going to be at Sundance. The critics really seem to like it so it will probably get the Art House treatment upon release. Yeah, I don’t see any big promotional tour though.

      • kaisei says:

Sundance started yesterday, I imagine Jarmusch will go but surely not Hiddleston.

      • Miss Jupitero says:

Sundance is on now? Yeeesh, that took no time. I agree, I doubt that there is going to be any kind of a big promotion. They really don’t have a budget. Jarmusch is an art house favorite though, and I look forward to seeing this at the Coolidge Theatre here in Boston!

Hiddleston needs new roles, real roles. I appreciate the urge to holla for the dolla, but he’s an arteest, right?

This ad though would be a great opportunity to pitch himself as another kind of villain. I could see him as a Bond villain.

      • kaisei says:

Miss Jupitero, playing the villain for a Bond movie would kind of burn his chances of playing Bond when Craig’s contract will end 🙂

I wonder if he won’t maybe stick to theatre if no new movie role comes up. Another year of red carpets…

      • Chrissy says:

I can see him as Bond actually.

      • Miss Jupitero says:

I can’t see him as Bond at all. Possibly a decent Bond villain. For Bond: Indris Elba would be my main guess, maybe Fassbender.

      • Secret Squirrel says:

I don’t want him to be James Bond 🙁 I hate all James Bond films. He is nothing but a misogynistic egotistical character (although I begrudgingly acknowledge the latest films have attempted to show stronger female characters). I get that being James Bond would be a dream come true for quite a few actors, but please somebody write a decent script. I just get so bored of the “sex sells” angle to make this franchise work.

Then again, I would have said no to him being a vampire too, but he does make that work I admit.

      • kaisei says:

Craig is signed up till 2017, but to be honest I don’t even know what else they can show in Bond movies. I hope they won’t make another one for a couple of decades.

      • Secret Squirrel says:

Haven’t they started remaking some of the original JB films again? If that’s not a sign that the franchise is exhausted and should be left to die a dignified death then I don’t know what is. Remakes are usually a sign that there’s nothing new to do anymore.

    • icerose says:

It did win won just do not ask me which I just picked it up on my film festival alerts back before Christmas.

    • icerose says:

Sony Classics who picked up the distribution were tweeting recently and Total Films have a competition for free tickets when its releases in UK but it has already a read carpet at the British Film Festival.

OLLA was also in the critics top four films at Cannes. It tied with some another film for 4th place.

  8. Mia4S says:

That’s a cute idea for a commercial, get that money Tommy!… no I’m serious, Marvel pays crap, get that money Tommy. 😉

  9. ncboudicca says:

Don’t mind me, I’m just standing on my front stoop, waiting for bad Tommy to come pick me up in that Jag.

  10. Dani says:

I don’t want to like him but that teaser just did things to me. Where are my underwear? That laugh, geez. *fans self*

  11. tallo says:

More movies for hiddles pretty please

    • Leah says:

Isn’t shooting for Crimson Peak starting mid February or did that get pushed back again? I’ve read that he has the male lead but I’ve also read he has the supporting male role so who the heck knows?

      • FW says:

someone on Jessica Chastain’s IMDb board commented that shooting of Mia and Charlie’s storyline(modern line) starts first then Tom and Jessica’s storyline(18th century?) I guess the latter pair is supporting

      • kaisei says:

From Crimson Peak’s wikipedia page, he plays Mia Wasikowska’s character husband with a secret, Chastain plays as his sister and Hunnam as a “quiet, shy, thoughtful kind of stoic, taciturn, very learned guy who is madly in love with the female hero”.
I would say that Wasikowska and Hunnam would be lead with Tom and Chastain as supporting roles, but who knows?
In theory they should begin shooting on Febr. 10th, so I think Tom will skip BAFTA.

      • icerose says:

Well Guillermo del Toro said “Tom has a timeless leading-man quality,” but it could be a small cast ensemble production. Mind you with Tom’s ability to turn a supporting role into the something special it probably does not matter.

  12. lina says:

I saw Only lovers left alive yesterday, and it was fantastic!

    • icerose says:

It was the top of my list of films viewed from last year although Amour and Wadja were up there as well.

  13. Luna says:

I’m going to be in London around the time of the new extra dates. Here’s the question: shall I enter it? I’m debating because I don’t want to go on my own

  14. ItSetsYou says:

The best thing about Tom being so evil here is knowing what a sweetheart he is in real life 😛

  15. Marie says:

I miss the Tom from those halcyon days of 2012 when the tweets were real, and he just looked GOOD. This doesn’t seem like the same guy now. He seemed really different when I saw him at the Donmar. Not to mention he’s apparently on “like old friends” basis with that crazy Project Wendy lady. http://instagram.com/p/jD0yAIL_aa/ Is there any length he won’t go to in appeasing his most obsessed fans? From what I’ve heard, this woman has traveled everywhere for Tom appearances over the past year, including throwing thousands into that Reel Britain film project, just to get close to him. Her name is in the Donmar programme, too, as a high-level donor (on the order of £6000 based on their membership chart). So apparently if you throw thousands of pounds in his direction, you, too, can be a spendy stalker, and he’ll show some faux love. I know every celebrity has crazy stalkers, but I like to think the ones I follow are smarter than to encourage the stalking! Naive, I guess.

    • TotallyBiased says:

Marie–I get where you’re coming from, but have to disagree regarding the spendy stalker concept. If she’s having to go through the queue in order to get some face time when she’s a programme level donor, he isn’t particularly showing her love. Faux or otherwise. As a silver she’s donated at least 3,000 pounds and the Donmar has director’s events to ensure people of that ilk get up close and personal with the stars unless there are reasons otherwise. Plus, notice the one-armed hug in that picture. Not the closest body language on his part when compared to so many other hugs.
