Amy Winehouse can’t spend money without parental consent

Amy Winehouse, who still hasn’t returned from her vacation in St. Lucia, has signed forms which give her parents the final say in her financial matters. Her parents have received shares in her company Cherry Westfield, and they also now have voting rights in her place. This means that Amy can’t spend money or make any decisions about her recording company unless her parents give her the go-ahead.

Troubled singer Amy Winehouse has handed control of her £15million fortune to her parents.

The pop diva, trying to beat her drug problems on a long Caribbean holiday, signed when dad Mitch flew to see her.

Now she is barred from spending her own money without the say-so of Mitch or her mum Janis.

The move comes just weeks before Amy, 25, is expected to receive a £10million cheque for last year’s sales of her 2006 album Back To Black.

“Everyone is pleased because it means Amy is listening to good advice,” said a source. “It’s still her money and nobody else can touch it. But this stops her doing anything stupid. And it is evidence that Amy is really turning her life around.”

Documents lodged at Companies House show Amy is the only beneficiary of her company Cherry Westfield – she owns all 100 £1 “ordinary” shares in the firm. But on January 16 Amy, who is now being divorced by her druggie husband Blake Fielder-Civil on the grounds of infidelity, agreed “articles of association” which give her parents “B-shares” – and voting rights which restrict her actions.

Her friend Blake Wood witnessed Amy’s signature on the document, which ex-cabbie Mitch personally delivered to her St Lucia villa.

At least one of her parents – who divorced when Amy was nine – must agree to any decisions about Cherry Westfield.

Amy can no longer pay out profits, make payments or loans, hire staff, change bank arrangements or appoint a director without the permission of Mitch, 58, or Janis, 54.

A friend said: “Mitch convinced Amy she needs a safety valve for the money for her own good – to stop her doing anything rash or daft.

“She can be very impetuous and the family wanted to protect her. She cannot make a sudden decision.

“Her dad was also worried she might be tempted to go back to Blake – and put him in charge. That is now impossible.

“This would never have happened before, certainly not when she was with Blake. It’s her money and nobody else can touch it. But she can’t do anything stupid.”

I’m not convinced that this is going to change much, but it’s a start. The agreement sounds somewhat like Britney’s situation, though Amy’s parents are less involved with her personal life. Amy has decided to stay in St. Lucia until she gets some new material finished, and though there have been plenty of stories and photos of her antics in the Caribbean, remaining there may be best for her. At least this way she’s not near her husband Blake Civil-Felder, who is back in jail for failing a drug test.

This “conservatorship” won’t last long, either. Her parents have not been very effective in the past reigning in her antics. They usually just post open letters in newspapers instead of actually getting her help. She’s a grown woman, but that doesn’t mean that her parents can’t or shouldn’t interfere. Once Amy goes back to the UK and begins recording a new album, she’ll go back to her old ways. Let’s hope I’m wrong.

Good for Amy. I hope she gets better, even if it does mean staying in St. Lucia for a while.

  2. Anoneemouse says:

Truly, what could her parents have done to stop her from doing drugs? She is an adult in the eyes of the law and the world and short of locking her up they can’t stop her from what she wants to do.

£10m cheque for last year’s sales of Back to Black? £10M?? Blimey. For a full time crackie, that’s not a bad year’s work!

I’m hopeful that she has actually turned things around. Please stay well, Amy.

Excellent idea. She can count herself lucky that someone cares enough. One day she will be thanking her parents.
Some people (a lot I would say) are not all grown up at 25 yrs old.

She’s good at the yoga, too. That is an extremely hard pose to do (Wheel pose).
