New Girl has fallen off a cliff for me this season, but The Mindy Project keeps getting better and better. One of the reasons for TMP’s rapid ascent in quality is right here: Chris Messina, better known as Dr. Danny Castellano, the tough-talking, working-class OB-GYN who has formed something like a meaningful friendship with and sort-of crush on Mindy Kaling’s Dr. Mindy.
Anyway, the paparazzi took these photos of Chris Messina walking around West Hollywood, talking on his cell phone. I like Chris’s look of “Really? Me? You want photos of me?” YES. We want photos of you, Chris. I’m actually really happy about this. The paparazzi know who Chris Messina is and they care enough to take some candid photos. He has arrived! Sort of. I mean, Messina’s always been a steadily working actor – I remember seeing him in Damages, Julie and Julia (he played Amy Adams’ husband) and he’s worked concurrently on The Newsroom and TMP. But usually these kinds of workaholic character actors don’t get paparazzi love. I have no doubt (seriously) that Chris is becoming more of a household name because of The Mindy Project.
So, would I hit it? I don’t even know that much about Messina, but I would definitely bang Danny Castellano. Danny is so weird and funny and old-fashioned and… well, props to the writers for giving Danny some of the best lines in sitcoms today. I think the “Christmas Party Sex Trap” and “You’ve Got Sext” episodes were two of the strongest TV sitcom episodes I’ve seen in years. Sigh. So, yes, if Danny Castellano was standing in front of me, I would totally try to tap that.
PS… I don’t want to do any spoilers for last night’s “winter finale” but OMG OMG OMG. That was a game-changer, right? And hot damn, who knew that Danny was that kind of take-charge seducer?!

I dont watch TMP but I hate-watch The Newsroom and he is pretty funny on it – even though he plays a bad guy. So…maybe? Cause of The Newsroom dudes I want Don.

I haven’t liked the LA episodes, but that ending was great.
I don’t think of him as instantly hot, but the kind of guy you gradually fall in love with and then suddenly realize it.
He’s in this movie called 120 Rooms (Or something like that) and thats how I fell in love with him. Gradually then suddenly. I had seen him in Ruby Sparks and the Newsroom, and it was his awkward heartfelt performance in that Rooms movie that made me want to love him forever. And I do. That AND that episode of Mindy where his ex wife has a gallery show featuring his beautiful freaking body.
Danny Castellano is so ridiculously crotchety, I love it. I love his witty one-liners and his satorial style! And I also yelled OMG OMG at the end of the episode! Though…one of those omgs was due to the fact that it doesn’t return until April 1. 🙁
What? Damnit I knew I should have watched it last night.. I caught up on Spoils of Babylon instead, what a doofus..
i hope the mindy project doesnt do a nosedive like new girl when mindy and danny eventually get together (c’mon we know its gotta happen eventually!)
Yes this! After Jess and Nick got officially together on New Girl, that show went downhill so fast. I’ve been hoping TMP would not go the same route and now I’m scared. I mean at least wait until the show is seeing its final season ever and then u can have those two characters finally get together, but otherwise it messes up the balance of the show!!!!
I love TMP and have watched it improve since it started, but this new romance btwn Mindy and Dr. C just doesn’t do it for me. I’ve enjoyed the various guest stars as her crazy boyfriends. If they become a couple, where can the story line go from there? Worrisome. But I LOVE Mindy Kaling!! Also, he’s a pint-sized man, so for me, it’s a no………………
Wasnt TMP forced into hiatus over ratings? I’m pretty sure I read about the scheduling changes late last year. It was at one point the worst rated Fox sitcom and that included new shows that hadnt had time to build an audience. I hate to say this but if ‘Danny’ is being papped its probably an attempt by execs to build a fangirl movement for him. Or just to build some interest in him and the show. I know some of you are huge fans but I would manage my expectations on whether it even gets a third season.
I don’t find him attractive. I have not seen The Mindy Project but I have seen him in the Newsroom and I thought he was very good in his part on that.
I love the Mindy Project. Danny/Mindy chemistry is great much better than Jess/Nick on The New Girl which was only good because of Schmidt. Max Greenfield is the best thing about TNG.

I don’t find him attractive, plus he’s little too wee for me… but I love his character on TMP! And yes to last night’s episode!!! It wasn’t as funny as the past episodes but that a– grab! I’ve only noticed Chris Messina from this show, even though I am aware that he’s been working for a very long time, and I can tell just from this light-hearted 30-minute show that he’s a brilliant actor. He makes it look so easy. Anyway, please keep covering anything TMP related! Thanks, Kaiser 🙂

Lol at Shyamaladingdong! I missed that movie but love him in TMP. I loved the 2 episodes Kaiser mentioned aboved. I have always liked TMP but it is getting so good now! I want Mindy and Casey back together. I like the tension between Dr C and Mindy.
I like him as an actor and I love the chemistry between him and Mindy. I had this weird thought that the kiss between them could be a dream sequence and didn’t really happen. The show is coming back on April fool’s after all. I hope the show doesn’t take a nosedive after the kiss. I think it will be good though, because if they did really kiss, then there is the conflict with cliff trying to get her back. I love this show!! When dr. C just grabbed her and kissed her, sooo hot! 🙂

Thank you Kaiser I so agree that the sext episode and the christmas episode were the best! Although TMP was mentioned a few times on this website I never cared to check it out… And I wasn’t sure if there would be any chemistry between Mindy and Chris Messina. But I watched the christmas episode on tv and was hooked! I watched all the episodes now, including the one from last night… Seriously I can’t believe some ppl would automatically snub this show because of the ratings. It’s their loss…

From the very first season I’ve found myself inexplicably turned on by/interested in “Danny” despite him not at all being someone I’d traditionally find physically alluring. Maybe it has something to do with that accent, him being such a hard working, super stand up guy and wonderful friend to Mindy, despite her never quite being able to see what she had (developing) right in front of her all along. God, Chris is just such a good actor, you know? And last night?! Oh.My.GOD. ❤

But last night the Morgan and Peter stuff killed me, they are so funny together.
The show has gotten great. Mindy also has such high quality guest stars (Casey and Cliff both write and produce their own hilarious shows) I think it shows that talented people want to be around her and work with her.

He was definitely bangable on damages – he played a former marine (or similar?). Anyway I was super jealous of Rose Byrne that season (well, more than usual).
Danny Castellano or Chris Messina, I’d tap either of ’em as hard as I possibly could! He’s just got that naturally sexy aura. He doesn’t have to do anything to be sexy, he just is!
And yes, last nights episode was AHHHHH-MAZING! I’ve been waiting for that since episode 1, I totally called it!
