John Travolta admits Scientologist handlers tailed him for years after Jett’s death

John Travolta

These are some photos of John Travolta and Kelly Preston in late January at the Living Legends of Aviation awards. John hosted the event as the official ambassador of aviation, which I don’t understand. He’s a celebrity and a flight enthusiast. He owns several of his own planes. I guess that’s good enough to be a host and ambassador? So be it.

John is currently promoting an onstage special (in London) called “A Conversation with John Travolta.” He’ll discuss his career hits and misses as well as other aspects of his life thus far. Can you believe John is about to turn 60 years old in a month? He sat down with the Telegraph to reveal a few tidbits in advance. Of particular interest is John’s admission that his Scientology minders didn’t leave his side for two years after the death of his eldest son, Jett, at age 16. Poor John is completely brainwashed, or he’s a better actor than I’ve ever given him credit for being. He communicates gratitude for the CO$’s support, but most of us find the idea of Scientology minders very scary in general. Let’s do some excerpts:

On his Oscar nomination for Saturday Night Fever at age 24: “I always knew how lucky I was. So actually I was quite humbled by success when it came. I felt like the decade between 25 and 35 was my most difficult. Then, once Pulp Fiction came into play, I was being offered the most wonderful roles again.”

His feelings on death: “I’m probably less terrified of death than your average fellow now, because people so near to me have suffered before their time and I just feel that if they can do it, so can I. The edge — the panic that most people feel — has been taken off death for me. I almost feel like it’s disrespectful to fear it when others have been able to do it.”

Scientologist handlers followed him for years: “Oh my God. I don’t know what I would have done if I hadn’t had the support of Scientology. I don’t think I could have got through it. They were with me every day after Jett died. They even travelled with me when I needed to get away. And for a solid two years it was like that. It was only in the second year that I started to take a break of a day or two just to see how I was doing on my own.”

His 1985 dance with Princess Diana: Travolta felt that it was “two victims of [fame] dancing together.” “There really was something lovely and girlish about her, and I felt that I had taken her back to her childhood, when she had probably watched Grease — and for that moment I was her Prince Charming.” He wasn’t nervous, he says, “because I’d seen her dance with Charles beforehand so I knew that she was strong. But she looked like she was leading [him] and because I knew that the world was watching I thought that I really needed to give her certainty that I knew what to do. I put my hand in the middle of her back, brought her hand down so that it wouldn’t be so high and gave her the confidence that we would do just fine. She was the real deal. And I think that was partly because she followed the rule that ‘it’s OK to be important as long as everyone else is equally important.'”

On getting older: “I don’t love the idea of turning 60,” he admits of his birthday later this month, “so I had hoped to keep it under the radar.” He won’t really “close the chapter on playing villains,” he says, until he gets cast as a baddy in a James Bond film. “I would love that. They’re going a different way with their villain in this next film but I’ve spoken to Barbara Broccoli about it and she loves the idea, so that would be great.”

[From The Telegraph]

Of course Scientologists monitored John (and Kelly) for years after Jett’s death. They didn’t want either parent to go “off message” about autism, which Scientology doesn’t believe even exists. Jett died in January 2009, and then John admitted in April during a sketchy extortion trial that Jett was autistic. Presumably, that’s when the CO$ stepped in to prevent John from publicly talking about it again.

Then in 2012, Kelly blamed chemicals for Jett’s autism. That was a really sad interview where she sounded like she was blaming herself. I even remember watching a late 1990s episode of Regis and Kathie Lee where Kelly was discussing how she believed carpet cleaning fluid had caused Jett to develop Kawasaki syndrome. I guess she eventually accepted that Jett did have autism, and it’s all very sad. Especially since the CO$ doesn’t give a flip about how Kelly or John feels. They just want to control the publicity aspect.

LOL , tailed him; enough said.

    • Soitgoes says:

Speaking of “tailing him”, in light of the recent lawsuits accusing him of exhibiting inappropriate behavior toward several massage therapists and/or masseurs, his tie is an unfortunate choice. Or who knows possible a subtle invitation…

  2. werty says:

Im confused, how did their kid die? And what did autism have to do with it?

    • Tapioca says:

He had a seizure and hit his head in the bath(room). The belief is that he was autistic and his parents were prevented from him getting proper treatment, because the COS believes mental health/brain conditions are down to alien BS. Hence Tom Cruise and his rant against psychiatry. Or Kirsty Alley campaigning against life-saving anti-depressants.

      • werty says:

        Ok. Thanks

      • FLORC says:

Didn’t the John or Kelly (or both?) admit at some point Jett was on perscriptions to help or control his condition? It was a huge deal because it was so difficult for them to admit after his death.

      • jwoolman says:

Jett had a difficult case of autism and epilepsy. My bet is that his epilepsy might have been drug-resistant. The drugs in such cases can have side effects worse than the disease. Many people with epilepsy have symptoms easily controlled with the right drug in the right dosage but some just don’t. They can try one drug after another but still have many grand mal and petit mal seizures. His parents most likely were doing what they could in a bad situation complicated by that vicious pseudo-church. They probably went far beyond Scientology to help Jett and the handlers were more interested in keeping John quiet about it than helping him deal with his grief.

      • CoolWhipLite says:

I tend to wonder if it was an actual seizure (by medical definition) or if it was just a case of a strong-bodied teen flailing, as children with autism often do. Maybe Jett was set off by something (sensory or behavioral), and he was unsafely rocking and flailing in a space that hadn’t been designed to keep him safe during those episodes. Not that this really matters at this point, but I have always wondered if the “seizure” excuse was just another element of their cover-up of the truth of autism.

  3. MoxyLady007 says:

He is a sexual predator. He assaults men. There is no excuse for that. None.

  4. CaribbeanLaura says:

His comments on his dance with Princess Diana was really sweet. What dance was it tho? And what was it for? Overall he seems like a sweet, albeit confused man. Oh and Co$ can suck balls.

    • LAK says:

Charles and Diana were over for a state visit and he asked her to dance. The photo of their dance is iconic.

      • CaribbeanLaura says:

K just googled the pic. That was sweet. I don’t know to much about Princess Diana (I might have been 5 when she died) but she seems like a woman who was so full of life.

      • Nicolette says:

That dance was so great, and they both looked like they were having so much fun.

@CaribbeanLaura, she was wonderful and I so very much wish she were still here. Her death really got to me, much more then I would have expected. And then just two years later John Kennedy Jr. was taken unexpectedly and tragically as well. Just awful. To this day when I see photos of her I can’t believe she’s not here anymore. Funny how the death of certain public figures, people you’ve never met and likely never would have, can affect you and how much you wind up missing them. 🙁

    • starrywonder says:

He is so sweet and I do love him I just wish that the COS would leave him alone so he can be who he wants to be. I would love to see him as a Bond villian too.

      • Josephine says:

He is very, very into Scientology and has spoken many times about how great it is, and how great it has been for him personally. It’s the choice he made. I find it interesting that everyone sees him as such a victim, and Tom Cruise as such a villain. They chose and advocate for the exact same group of people.

      • gg says:

More like him leaving the cult alone, but of course they would rather see him dead than leave their cult. Make no mistake about that.

  5. LAK says:

Vanity Fair has an article about Shelly……

    ….and her possible whereabouts….

  6. LAK says:

He seems to be a genuine believer in the goodness of his faith unlike TC whose belief seems more about external things ie how much co$ pets his ego.

    • Kiddo says:

Except for the part about engaging in, or being predatory, with sex acts on young men.

      • LAK says:

        Very true.

…but I think you are misunderstanding what i’m trying to say.

Every time he talks about co$, he comes across as someone who truly believes it as an article of faith, of spirituality. That doesn’t mean he doesn’t transgress against the religion, few people of faith do. With regards the assaults, don’t forget he is also a celebrity. There is enough ego there to think his celebrity will let him get away with things like that.

TC, on the otherhand, seems to believe that co$ makes him master of the universe. A super being who is perfect and in control and can do things with his mind. Nothing about his spirit.

In many ways, TC and co$ are in the perfect relationship. I don’t get that with JT, and I think he is still more likely to blow than TC.

    • Josephine says:

I disagree. Tom has spoken many times about how much Scientology has helped him as a human being. I get the like for Travolta – he seems tremendously likeable. But I don’t get making excuses for one of them and calling the other out. I find it incredible that everyone was very sure that Scientology was auditioning for a wife for Tom, something that has not come to be, yet somehow the notion that Scientology is actively engaged in covering up for Travolta’s assaults is too incredible to believe. They’re both creepy, and both engaged in the exact same group. Travolta is a grown man with incredible resources and appeal – he chooses to be there.

      • gg says:

They are both very codependent with their cult and that is what the cult cultivates. excuse the pun.

      • LAK says:

i am not making one better than the other.

I’m talking about how they relate to it, not that one is a victim and the other is not. Their different relationship to co$ doesn’t negate what co$ is or what it is capable of.

And for the record, i firmly believe that co$ was behind those assault allegations. I am not saying the allegations didn’t happen, only that between his celebrity and co$, we didn’t find out about them until he seemed to publicly waiver in his faith. There were strong rumours that he was about to blow after his son died and then BAM, suddenly these allegations made their way into the public arena and just as suddenly disappeared AFTER he publicly re-affirmed his commitment to co$.

        i don’t think it’s a coincidence.

The wife auditions for TC happened in the mid-00s and ended with Katie Holmes as a wife. I haven’t heard of recent auditions, have you? please post links if it’s something that has been rumoured to be happening again.

    • MonicaQ says:

It’s brainwashing, plain and simple. I just got a childhood friend back from Scientology (his parents switched schools to the Academy here in Clearwater and I never saw him after 7th grade) and they make you think no one else will help you, will understand. He has no family (anymore, he’s an SP now) but just got his driver’s license at 28.

I guess what I’m trying to say, it’s good and sincere until you piss off David Muschovich. Then it’s all down hill from there. Cruise kisses his ass. Alley he sees an embarrassment but she’s the only prominently out female scientologist. Travolta faltered a bit but they reminded him who’s boss.

      • LAK says:

I honestly feel that there are very few secrets regarding TC. David = TC. They get each other. they pander to each other. They both think they are god. or super beings. they are wayyyyy better than anyone. they are the perfect match.

JT is good and brainwashed and sincerely believes in it. That’s why he still has the capacity to waiver and blow. TC will never ever blow.

      • MonicaQ says:

Plus, David just wants to be famous. It works out perfect for him.

  7. Suze says:

He’s creepy; Scientology is creepy, Preston has signed a deal with the devil.

Poor Jett. What a terrible situation that was.

    • natdealz says:

My family and I are being stalked by scientologists. We were never cult members. They are trying to clear our neighboorhood of all non cult members. All the horrible things you hear about these maniacs are true. We live in woodinville, wa by the way.

      • John Wayne Lives says:

That is really scary and I’m sorry this is happening to you. They are dangerous people

  8. lucy2 says:

Whenever he talks like that, I feel really, really sad for him being stuck in that cult, who clearly were worried he was going to bolt and that’s why they “supported” him so closely after his son’s death.
But then the assault allegations come to mind again, and I can’t feel so bad for him in terms of CO$.

  9. Frenzy says:

He admitted in 2009 during that extortion trial that Jett has autism and suffered seizures every 5 or 10days . He can’t leave the cult or else they will make his audit tapes public.

    • Decloo says:

As you note, it is commonly believed that famous people won’t leave the fold because they fear their audit tapes being made public. I guess CO$ could make selective pieces public but I think releasing tapes of audit sessions would expose them and their ridiculous methods just as much as it would expose a celebrity’s peccadilloes.

      • Frenzy says:

I think COS don’t care about their methods being exposed. On Monique Rathbun’s ongoing harassment case against this cult, they admitted sending the “squirrel busters” crew to Texas to “protest” ( I would say harass) Rathbun and her husband Marty( a former high ranking official who audited Tom Cruise). They are crazyyy!

  10. gg says:

“It was only in the second year that I started to take a break of a day or two just to see how I was doing on my own.”

Oh, how the $clions love the codependency thing. Make them think you’re helping instead of controlling and surveillance, and the dink buys it, lock, stock and barrell.

  11. Ellie66 says:

Is it funny that he said “oh my God” shouldn’t he say oh my Zenu? 😉

    • gg says:

Zenu (and psychology) is their “devil”. They have no god and they do not worship, meditate, or pray to anything.

    • MonicaQ says:

Xenu is kind of like their Satan. He was the leader of the GC (Galactic Confederacy) and bought aliens here in D-8s and blew them up. Now we feel sad because of alien ghosts.

  12. msw says:

CO$ is the most abusive partner ever.

  13. coconut says:

he would look a lot less creepy if he’d shave off that thing on his chin.

  14. Zwella Ingrid says:

I have heard parents of autistic children blame the autism on vaccinations. I think that is a very common belief. I don’t know that it has any validity, but I think a wide variety of things are cited as possible sources.

    • The one study that alleged a connection has been thoroughly and repeatedly debunked.

    • UghInsomnia says:

My youngest son (5) is autistic, and I don’t blame anything. It’s a neurological disorder. I do know of some parents who absolutely believe that vaccinations “caused” the autism, even after the initial report proved to be falsified.

  15. Twez says:

I can’t hear anything Travolta says because that WIG is shouting at me.
