Sarah Jessica Parker, who plays a character famous for her fashion excesses, is known for her frugality. She dresses her 6-year-old son in hand me down clothing, she designed a clothing range all priced at $20 or less. According to tabloids reports, she now scared of divorcing her husband of 11 years – because of how much it will cost her.
Sarah Jessica Parker – whose 11-year marriage to actor Matthew Broderick is reportedly on the rocks following allegations he cheated on her with a 25-year-old beauty – is giving her relationship another go because she doesn’t want to lose the multi-million pound fortune she has accumulated.
A source told Look magazine: “Sarah’s family were poor when she was a child.
“She had seven brothers and sisters and she’s often talked about missing out on birthday presents when she was young.
“It seems she’s freaking out over the thought that Matthew could walk away with an enormous sum of money.”
It was recently reported the couple – who have a six-year-old son James Wilkie together – are leading separate lives.
They put a united front on over the festive period for the sake of James, but their Christmas truce is said to have caused further cracks in their relationship.
Another source added: “They spent the holidays pretending to be happy for James.”
If Parker divorces Matthew Broderick now, with the Sex and the City sequel suggested to be earning her $50million, she’s not going to be short of cash. It’s possible that she’s still afraid of surrendering a large portion of her fortune in a divorce, or that this story is made up.
SJP confessed in a recent interview that given the financial situation the world is in, she isn’t going shopping.

“She would probably end up in a hospital,” jokes Sarah Jessica Parker in the March issue of Harper’s Bazaar, which hits stands Feb. 17.
“Perhaps she would go back to her ’80s stuff and start bringing it back out,” she adds.
Parker herself finds the downturn “very scary.
“I can’t imagine going shopping,” she continues.
She doesn’t hit the stores as often as Bradshaw, though.
“Friends are readily disappointed by the size of my closet. And I thought it was big!” she says.
Parker explains that she doesn’t have the “Carrie Bradshaw passion and devotion” to fashion, “but I would much prefer that life would allow for a beautiful shoe all day long.”
Is SJP avoiding the shops because she doesn’t feel it’s moral or attractive to be seen shopping right now? Or Because everyone, no matter how wealthy, is concerned about their finances? Even Donald Trump has given his tips for dealing with the credit crunch. My big tip – avoid the term recessionista at all costs.

I am sure he has his own money he has been working a long time and I am sure he gets ferris buller residuals that movie is on all the time.
Also I feel that people with money should help the economy by going out and spending!!! That is one way to help – not stay home and horde your millions of dollars!

seeing how her only child is always wearing high water hand me down flood pants. I’ll say shes pretty tight with a buck. Might also be the reason the kids does not have his hair cut. SJP was on welfare when she was growing up.
There is no way his earnings could touch hers. Yes I’d be pissed, too, knowing my husband was going to walk away with a chunk of money I primarily made.
Did they have money with Madoff? That would be my next thought.
Why would he get a large sum of money if he’s the one who allegedly committed adultery? Thats why this story is BS. They’re doing it for James Wilkie-not money.
He must have made a fortune from that lengthy “Producers” run, though, so I don’t know. I think if anything is keeping her from divorcing it’s the dread of ending her marriage, upsetting her kid, the legal wrangling & the media feeding frenzy. Reason enough! She still should though – Broderick has aged into a puffy, grouchy loser.
Maybe she and Robert Downey Jr. could get back together now that he’s finally sober!
I don’t believe they’re sticking together because of money, if anything it’s because of their child, also she may be still in love with him.
Who knows.
I admire the way she has handled his (alleged) cheating.
If they do divorce,they’ll put their son’s interest’s first and not wage a PR war against each other like so many Hollywood couples have done.

Those that have the money, and SJP does (!), SHOULD be spending money right now! Support your fellow citizen by continuing to do what you would have been doing anyway! I’d be happy to see another ridiculous piece of jewelry on Diddy, it would mean someone got a commission they needed. We’re not stupid, we know these people have insane amounts of money, I’m a whole lot more offended they’re NOT spending in this recession and hoarding it away.
You know what turns a recession around? When people SPEND money, go shopping, go out to dinner, etc. When everyone stays out of the stores, the stores close, and the recession continues.
SJP has always been frugal. So no surprises there, and she gets to keep her SATC wardrobe most of the time, so she has no need. And let’s face it if the divorce was just about money, now would be the time before the SATC sequel.

I like SJP and MB, they seemed down to earth. It’s too bad if the divorce rumours are true, she’s good peeps, definitely doesn’t deserve the infidelity heartbreak!
I seriously doubt this story. When you are unhappy in your marriage you want to move on, no matter what the cost. They will both be rich after the split.
This divorce stuff is such made up BS. In that Harper’s Bazaar interview quoted above, she talks about her family in ways she would probably not if there were truth to any of these rumours.
She says what she can’t live without – ““My son! My husband! Food! Oh, fashion? I don’t know. A good bra?”
