Christian Bale’s wife Sibi was pregnant the whole way through the awards season! And we didn’t even Bump Watch her! My mind has been boggled. First of all… did you know Sibi’s real name is Sandra? I never knew that. Everyone always refers to her as Sibi, she’s always labeled as Sibi in photos and articles, so I guess I’ve never questioned it. Anyway, Sibi and Christian are expecting their second child. They are already parents to nine-year-old daughter Emmeline Bale. I also didn’t know their daughter’s name! Emmeline is barely photographed (even before Kristen Bell and Dax Shepard’s No Kids Pledge) but Christian does talk about her in interviews and such. You can tell he loves his daughter very much and he seems very involved. So much so that I’ve always kind of wondered why Christian and Sibi didn’t have more kids. Not that it’s any of my business, of course, but I’m glad to see that they’re going for another one:
There’s another baby on the way for Christian Bale and wife Sandra “Sibi” Bale. The couple are expecting their second child, PEOPLE has confirmed.
The notoriously private couple, who have been married for 14 years, are already parents to a daughter, who will turn 9 this month.
Bale’s rep had no comment.
“It’s all about my girls, my wife and my daughter. I carry a picture of them with me all the time,” Bale, 40, said about his two girls in 2009.
Sibi, 43, debuted her baby belly last Sunday on the red carpet at the Academy Awards, where her husband was nominated for Best Actor for American Hustle, which also scored nine other nominations including Best Picture.
Gotta love when People Magazine manages to get a hard confirmation but then they add “Bale’s rep had no comment.” That’s a pretty typical Hollywood move. But I do have to give Christian some credit – he managed to go through the entire awards season in the most low-key way, showing up to every event with his wife but barely doing any press. I even talked about it a few weeks before the Oscars – I was surprised that Bale didn’t seem to be waging any kind of campaign at all, which was particularly weird because he was literally the best part of American Hustle. I mean, if Matthew McConaughey’s wife had been pregnant during the awards season, we would have had interview after interview about it and Matthew would have been working “MAN MAKES BABY, my wife is pregnant! Alright alright alright” into every speech.

I was also amazed that nobody, including myself, noticed the very visible baby bump she had at the Oscars. Now that I’m looking, it’s so obvious that she’s pregnant.
My guess would be that a pregnancy at 43, after an 8 year wait between children, was probably something that they worked on for a while. Congrats to them!
Indeed. Yeap, a hearty congrats to them! Bale is probably the only actor that I have liked since I was a teen, I practically grew up with his news and his movies :D.

I don’t see that at all. I see two people who have been together long enough that they can stand side by side without feeling the need to be overly affectionate. I know lots of couples who stand like that. But of course, this is all speculation.
The way he speaks of his wife (and daughter) impresses me more than just about any other celebrity. He clearly adores them and loves being married. Fourteen years is longer than many marriages, esp. in Hollywood. As far as looking uncomfortable, Bale notoriously hates red carpets so it’s no surprise.
I’d be really surprised if your prediction became true, because I really don’t see that at all. I see two people, very comfortable in each others presence, who are very low key and who manage to have a happy marriage, making things work after all these years, even in Hollywood.
I’ve noticed the baby bump on the Oscar photos, so this news doesn’t surprise me at all. Whatever the reason why they didn’t have another child till now, it’s entirely their business, I’m just happy that they’re going to have another one now and based on the photos of the two of them glowing, I’d say they are too 😀
I noticed the bump especially after bit was reported that Angelina Jolie told her congrats on the carpet. Good for them for keeping quiet. More should follow their lead.
Yea, I also saw the bump when they were sitting and the cameras were going over everybody. Figured that’s the reason AJ hugged Sibi. I don’t care much for Bale but love his daughter’s name

I can’t help but be a cynic and think “uh oh, hope it’s not just a desperate attempt to save their marriage”. It is Hollywood after all. And he never seemed the settle-down, homebody type to me. Who knows, it’d be nice if I’m proven wrong and they never get divorced.
According to the article they have been married for 14 years. If that doesn’t scream commitment , I don’t know what does. And seeing how there few candid photos of him, I would say he is a home body. He just has a temper.

does not seem that way to me. he seems really happy beside his wife and they are ALWAYS together. a wild guess, but maybe sibi has had trouble getting pregnant? I remember someone commenting on how his former publicist made nasty comments about sibi having trouble holding their first pregnancy. I wish them all the best and a smooth pregnancy.

She was born in Chicago and raised in Sarajevo.
As to whether Srboslava is her first or middle name I have no idea.

Croatia, Slovenia and a huge part of Bosnia and Herzegovina are Roman Catholic and were under the Habsuburg Monarchy. No Byzantine influences whatsoever.

(as for the middle names: sometimes, people don’t take the same “world” name as their christened name is, so then the christened name becomes middle name. But it’s almost never used. (For example: If i’m christened as Ivana, and call myself Ivana-no middle name; If my parents named me Andrea, and then christened me as Ivana, my name would be Andrea (Ivana).

Here, if you have a middle name, it is always pronounced. I know a girl whose name is Irena Nives, and every time our professors address her, they have to call her Irena Nives, she has to sign things with Irena Nives, etc.

It might not be a big deal but it is actually confusing for people. Eastern Europe for many means Ukraine or Belarus, not Serbia.
@ Tatjana so what are you driving at? You live there and it’s a big deal for you, that’s perfectly understandable. But it’s not going to change the reality of how most people, who’ve never been to or mostly hear about your country in the news, refer to it. It sounds like it’s a touchy subject for you, but that’s the truth – the majority of Western world still think of your country as Eastern Europe and think of it as such.
It’s not a touchy subject at all. I couldn’t care less. It’s just a bit annoying.
But I would imagine that, if I thought that say, Ireland is in Britain and someone from Ireland informs me that it’s in fact not in Britain – I would say fine, I was wrong instead of insisting that my opinion is correct. But that’s just me. I wasn’t aware the geographical facts change depending on where someone’s from.
Europe is not just Eastern and Western Europe, btw, no matter what the might “Western World” thinks.
Sorry to interfere here about this subject BUT i have to clarify that the “Eastern and Western Europe” nominations are not correct in geography terms. It was a way to divide “politically” the countries (communism and such mostly, plus Russian influence). It would take too much time to write about that here and explain everything properly but let me say that Eastern Europe has nothing to do with religion, antic influence etc. Tatjana is right here. Europe is big and has many countries that don’t like being put in the same basket. I know i don’t want my country to be called that. Let me say that technically my country is more Western then say Greece BUT it has been called Eastern because of other reasons.

My country has been called Eastern many times because it was part of the Eastern Block after the war when technically it’s Central Europe.
I think it’s perfectly possible for the region to be called different things based on context. You can talk about things that apply to all of Eastern Europe and use the term southeastern Europe when talking about things that differentiate the subset from the whole. I live in the US, and I’ve heard both region names, Eastern Europe and southeastern Europe.
Tatjana is absolutely right — I work in that whole region (from Bosnia across to Bulgaria and all the way to Russia and Central Asia (Kazakhstan). Eastern Europe is former Sovier Republics. South Eastern Europe is Bosnia, Croatia, Macedonia, Albania, Serbia, Montenegro. It’s not touchy when people can’t be bothered to know basic geography and history! I realize geopgraphy is not part of the basic curriculum in the US but still….
Just shave the beard and mustache man. At least trim it…I think once it gets to homeless looking scraggles, it needs to be trimmed lol.

Congratulations. Yay for a confirmation. Fans have been speculating for a while that Sibi is pregnant. Good to know it is indeed true. And it might sound weird but I really love the fact that he seems to love his wife so much.
@ Kaiser – CBale has talked recently how he would never campaign for an award.(promotion for Out of the furnace) He finds the whole process uncomfortable, having to ask people to vote for him behind the backs of his fellow actors. He will promote his movies but never his performance specifically.
There was a photo from the Baftas that was pretty telling too. Congrats to them, they are very private and low key but seem very happy together.

This could be a surprise baby, or a planned one (given their age). Christian never strike me as a cheating kind, he was never even a sort of “serial monogamous” type when he was single. And I don’t think it’s nice to expect him and his wife to separate — it never is nice even with those whose marriage/partnership are on the rocks in public.
I don’t think he is the cheating kind either. There were the cheating rumors and in the age of technology, they was not one photo of him stepping put on his wife. The man starred in one of the biggest franchises in history and is an Oscar winner. Not one woman quietly going to the tabloids as an unnamed source talking about them. Outside of the RC the only photos you see is of him on set, dinner with cast members or with his family. Were is he meeting these women. Or, maybe he is more crafty than I give him credit for and cheats on her left and right and is really good at hiding it. Cynical bitch that I am and to that I say, ‘For shame’.
The only rumors that ever surfaced about him was with Anne Hathaway during TDKR filming which was frankly ridiculous since no pictures were ever taken even though the paparazzi was stalking the cast everywhere.

I saw pics of the Bales talking to Anne at the Oscars, and they all looked very friendly, so I don’t think Lainey’s blind item holds true. And that’s the only place I ever saw that rumor link back to.

Anne seems WAY too goody goody for that. You know how most people would be all ‘Oh no, I can’t betray my wife/husband, etc’, I picture Anne’s mantra being ‘I can’t jeopardize this Oscar!’ or ‘My career!’……plus I just picture her as being so sexless……but I don’t like saying stuff like that, because that’s just how a person is on the outside–we have no clue what they’re like when they get their freak on, and the most repressed on the outside are the most ‘free’ on the inside…

Its not always easy to get pregnant…it took me 4 years to get pregnant with my second, after activally trying for 3…and I know at least 2 couples who tried and tried to get pregnant after their first and it never happened. They could have been trying for years, who knows…

I think they are a lovely couple. I don’t know anything about her because they are so private. We usually never see them out and about other than at work related events for him. Their daughter is adorable and now they have another child on the way. Good for them.
I’d assumed they only wanted one child, but good for them if they’d like another. Tey seem like good parents, and I think it says a lot that he’s so high profile but that we rarely see pictures of their kids.
As for cheating, the only rumor I’ve seen was the one about Anne Hathaway. That was a blind, and I think it’s either untrue or that it was about other people. Neither of them has a reputation for on set romances, neither has a history of being with anyone high profile, and they don’t even seem like each other’s type.
Lovely news. I remember, a while back, someone posted here that Mrs. B. looked like she might have a baby bump. (I forget where they were photographed.) Good eye, whoever made the catch! How nice that the couple’s daughter is going to be a big sister.
Sibi looks radiant. What a contrast between their under-the-radar pregnancy and Chris/Elsa’s boisterous one. Of course, Bale is a very private person, and his wife isn’t an actress, so they are not in the spotlight as much as the Hemsworths. Did ya’ll see the pics of Elsa with a life preserver painted on her tummy? Eek! I didn’t think her Oscar look was as bad as most thought, but the life guard thing seemed just embarrassing.
Elsa’s barely an actress–I think the only thing she’s had come out, since she got with Thor is her TINY, blink and you’ll miss it part in the last Fast and Furious movie…other than that? Nothing.
Sibi looks beautiful. I like the dress, except for the dangling sleeves, or whatever that is. If it had just been a thin, off the shoulder strap, that would’ve been better.
And I noticed her bump, when I was on PEOPLE’s website, looking at all the Oscar red carpet photos…..

That will be interesting to see. My older sister was about the same age (7 or 8) when me and my twin were born—for the longest time it was just her and my mom.
There’s also a funny story about one of my aunts–she had two kids, with a big chunk of time between them. For a long time it was just my aunt and cousin–who was about 9 when his little brother was born. He told my aunt that he liked it better when it was just him and her–he hated his little brother. One day, when the younger brother was about two, my aunt told my older cousin to put some juice in his brother’s bottle, and give it to him–well, my cousin went and got an orange flavored wine cooler out of the fridge, put it in the bottle, and gave it to my cousin…..my aunt almost killed him…
christian didn’t go to a lot of awards this season because he was filming a new movie during the season. he missed a lot of events, you wrote something about that earlier so she wasn’t seen much during the award season.
